Great Eastern in Brighton and Hove

Didn't have food but the ales were fab, old school reggae and dub DJ was playing some lovely vintage vinyls and the artwork is amazing in there

Normally a great pub, I’ve been living in Brighton for a few years and I’ve been going very regularly since I moved here. I went last night with a few friends and upon sitting down, a member of staff stormed to our table and very rudely asked for all of our ID’s as if we were 15 year olds in a Wetherspoons. This alone would have been fine, but every time I went to the bar to order, the three members of staff were talking to each other, did everything they could to not serve me and generally had a rude demeanour. I’ve never been made to feel so uncomfortable in a pub before 😔 It really is a shame because I love the pub normally, it always has great music and is decorated gorgeously. I have no idea whether I’ll be returning.

My favourite pub in Brighton - as a gluten free drinker I have so much choice for beers and the others drinks are great too. A good lay out. Nice out door space. Vinyl dub/funk/motown etc depending on which day you’re there. I’ve had many a good night here since moving to Brighton in January.

A fantastic pub with a choice of craft beers and traditional ales alike. The place has a climate of a good old school pub. No matter whether you're up for a call ale or a modern brew you'll find something for yourself. A perfect place to get a pint or two. The staff is very friendly. There's live music on weekend evenings.

It's one of my favourite cosy little tuck aways of the city, great selection of whiskey, always a new IPA to try. Great music and / or djs every day ! The size of this small traditional pub, only goes to show its popularity with the punters ... as they often overflow into the street regardless of indoor space, only adding to the atmosphere of this belter of a pub.

This is a great pub! We came here for a drink on a Monday afternoon and found the pub to be very friendly with interesting clients and friendly staff. The decor in the bar is music oriented and I can see that at night they will play an eclectic range of music, which I know I would love. I had a coupe of pints of hoppy pale ale, which was delicious and at a reasonable price. The pub is clean, and well maintained and is an asset to the amazing place that is Brighton! I will definitely return!

Pleasant traditional style pub. I had a really good pint of Old Man by Long Man brewery. Four ales on the hand pumps when I went and some interesting stuff on the other taps. Well worth popping in. Nice vibe.

Great Little pub. I had a pint of Long Man's Long Blonde. This, with a medium Chardonnay cost £8.40 - amazing value. It was mid Saturday day afternoon and they had a DJ playing rather good music. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff

Another top tier Brighton pub. Very small. Good beer. Excellent atmosphere. It's a good mingling spot. Catch the last few rays of sun on a summer day. Meet interesting characters and make new friends.

Fab place. Vibrant, cool 😎 friendly. Also good beer options. They have a bubble machine and music.

Great traditional pub but it is best at the weekend. Live DJs on Friday Saturday and Sunday and always a great atmosphere in the evening and the decour is really nice with the fairy lights. Staff are friendly. The prices are perhaps on par with other pubs in the area (£5.20 for a pint of ale but £6.70 for an IPA). Worth it for the music and atmosphere though.

Brilliant, small but proper pub in the heart of the city, great atmosphere, great music, great crowd, great selection of beers and spirits. Love it.

Always love coming in here, if we can get a seat which says a lot! :) not too expensive, stays open late, friendly staff, good atmosphere, good music, decorated lovely, always a good time when we come here!

Decent pub with a local crowd, lively atmosphere and always has good music. One of the cheaper pints in central Brighton too. Just a shame about the rude little barmaid who has a bad attitude compared with the rest of the staff, who are great.

We were in Brighton for a long weekend and were looking for a pub playing reggae music for pre-drinks before going to a gig at The Brighton Dome. I found this pub through social media and headed there on Sunday afternoon. We weren't disappointed! Tiny corner pub with a great vibe, excellent bar service and reasonable prices. Would also recommend the DJ General Legsta, who was happy to chat and played some great Roots Reggae sounds, even mixing some versions on the bar counter. If this is your thing, this is the place to be!

Excellent bar really enjoyed the atmosphere and served a great pint of Guinness.

We love this pub. Its classy, cosy and has the best off the wall DJs that spin tunes, Friday, Saturday and Sunday mostly.. It does change. Groovy tunes to make you squirm in your seat if you are lucky enough to get one! Known for its selection of Kentucky and Tennesse whiskeys there an excellent selection of spirits.

Always a great friendly vibe. Prices reasonable by todays standards. Defo one of, if not best pub in Brighton.

Popped in for a pint and have to say the interior is individual. Lots of in house brewed ales, think I spotted a larger as well. Can make out the brew tanks just behind the bar. The ale I tried was fab and super fresh, so will go back and try some of the others. Great service as well.

Rude and pompous staff make for an unfriendly atmosphere and miserable vibe. There are so many great pubs in Brighton. Unfortunately this is no longer one of them.

Possibly the highest concentration of Daves in the entire UK, can be found here. And, trust me (I'm a Dave) that's not a bad thing. That's a good thing.

Very good pub about 5 minutes walk from Brighton Station. Five cask beers on handpump when I visited including an old ale. Plenty of outdoor seating some of it covered.

One of my favourite pubs in Brighton. Small, packed and full of great quirky people. There is no facade here, if you want a good old fashioned pub then this is the place to be. Although it's almost always crowded inside they manage to serve you super fast. Great ambiance and a real warmth about this place.

Had a great time at a DJ night at the bar. It may be a little cramped inside, but the street outside has an incredibly friendly, lovely atmosphere and the music was great. Would highly recommend this as a night out.

This is, without a doubt, my favourite pub in the world. Hosts all people from all walks of life. Best whiskey on offer in Brighton. Really reasonable prices. The music is literally *always* perfect for the vibe that day/night. Staff are perpetually lovely. Served by Calum who ticked every box for me. Proper pub with proper ales. Never had a bad time there. If you’re in Brighton, go here; you will not be disappointed.

Really nice pub in Brightons infamous lanes. Sort of hidden but I suppose that makes it a gem of a place. Wasn’t very busy but had some really good music that the customers seemed to enjoy. Bar staff were very lovely and seemed to have a good rapport with the regulars. I was served by Dexter who offered me tasters and advised me on what’s popular and what’s not. Overall I definitely recommend the pub, definitely my cup of tea! (or ale so-to-speak)

Enjoyed this pub - didn't eat. Has turntables supplying the music which as a record collector was nice to see. Good pints keenly priced for Brighton. Very clean facilities and very friendly and attentive staff. Top atmosphere and the locals were gave a warm welcome.

I visited on my recent return to the UK and very much enjoy my evening at The Great Eastern. Excellent beer, great music, friendly and helpful staff and a brillent atmosphere. I visited on a Saturday night so the pub was busy, unsurprising due to what a great pub this is. I strongly recommend a visit.

Probably the best boozer in town (they don't serve food) and my fave pub. Cozy place, great manager, friendly stuff anf fantastic vibe. On top of it a lot of cool DJs are often spinning old vinyl records in many different styes of music and every once in a while they even have live music. Who could ask for anything more?

What a pub! Quite frankly the best pub in Brighton. The atmosphere is amazing; on a busy evening, the pub is filled to the brim, music you can't help but love and staff working their hardest to ensure everyone enjoys their night. On the quieter days, it is equally lovely, with a nice and peaceful environment. They have an impressive selection of all spirits, and whilst their speciality is whisky, there are plenty of other spirits, ales, larger and many more to offer if that's what takes your fancy. The music is unique, with some fabulous DJ's playing every weekend. 100% recommend, whatever your mood.

I have visited this pub many times over the years and I have to say it has never failed to impress me , a great atmosphere, really good service and excellent ales in tip top condition . The staff are very friendly and recently the music of all variations is spot on . I will be back again sooner rather than later , keep up the good work guys.

For a city with such an abundance of puns, The Great Eastern is like an old friend. Always a constant in your life. A pub that feels like Brighton. Great staff, great selection of drinks, and you never know what you’ll hear musically, but it’s always quality.

Lovely pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, Callum in particular was very helpful with helping us order a whiskey that was right for us. There’s a great whiskey selection if you’re so inclined. Can highly recommend for anyone looking for cozy pub with a great atmosphere. Will be coming back soon!
