My burger was brough to the table by Beth, who said it would be free because the chef wasn't happy with it. Then Brian, the chef himself, came to the table and said he wanted me to have a free meal in future too. And my "substandard" burger was delicious!

There are always plenty of seats because the other nearby pubs are 1,000% better than this place, I just came in because my kids wanted chips and their chips came with …. A hair on them. Beer is passable but only passable. Frankly, give it a miss.

Lovely local pub since it reopened.Have lived just a few doors from this pub for almost 40 years and never really liked it much before but can now say that it is the best it’s ever been.Currently only get chance for a couple of beers on a Friday afternoon as I am a full time carer for my elderly father and can’t leave him alone very long, especially evenings, but look forward to my Friday couple of pints here.A friend joins me when they are not working.Friendly staff, great atmosphere, lovely beer garden.Good selection of beers and love the Inch’s cider! Have yet to try the burgers but have heard they are excellent.Would definitely be in more often if I was able to.

This pub is away from the hustle and bustle of the city and caters for the local residents. The beer is reasonably priced and pizzas are on offer during the week. On sundays during the winter there are a variety of roasts available and in the summer months there is a barbacue in the garden. All Sky sports are on the big screen and a smaller large screen tv is at the other end of the bar. The staff are helpful and friendly and no I neither work there or have any connection to the management .It is my local.

It’s odd that I’ve only given the food here four stars and everything else five stars, because the food was outstanding. I had the Jerk Chicken burger and it was amazing, so many flavours going on. My wife’s vegan burger was great as well, it would be good for the burgers to be vegetarian as an option. My wife is veggie not vegan, she doesn’t want to have vegan mayo and cheeeeze. So why four stars? Simple, the accompanying fries were cold. Loved the atmosphere in the pub, staff were friendly and helpful. No real ales available which was disappointing and I think there could be better transparency on beer prices. Nearly thirteen quid for two pints ( one being Kronenburg) came as a bit of a shock. We will definitely be back and I will make sure I request hot fries.

Was nice to see chips come with burgers as a standard too! Second time I come here for dinner. I love this place as my local pub but had problems again with my food. I ordered something to eat and they told me it may take longer than usual. I agreed with that. After 45m I asked at the bar and they told me that the kitchen was closed. I inquired about my food and was informed that they were not arranged properly and it was impossible to offer me any food. I requested a refund which I had. I love this place, but it would not be my recommendation for the food or the high expectations in the experience of the staff.

Visited with a 17mth old in our party for lunch. The staff were great and very polite and gave our daughter great attention and a balloon for being a good girl. Food was of very good portion size and was cooked and presented very well. Drinks were good as well. Everything looked very clean. Price was good as well. They were short staffed when we visited so there was a slightly longer wait than usual but the staff were very good, polite and very apologetic. I'd certainly revisit if I am in Brighton again and would recommend a visit.

I visited with my 5 year old for lunch on Sunday. It wasn't overwhelmingly busy, but not disconscertingly empty either and we received a warm welcome. Really happy with the attentive service and the range/portion size of food available for little ones including free refills; colouring pens and crazy straw to take home. Being vegetarian I'm not much of a burger person but the portobello mushroom and goats cheese burger was delicious. We even stayed for dessert - lava cake oh my word! We had such a nice time there together we will definitely be back next pay day!

I have used the Islingword pub for many years under different managers. Due to Covid and the much needed refurb, I hadn’t used it for the last 2 and half years so was looking forward to using the pub again. I booked for a Friday @ 5.00. I also mentioned we were a group of ‘older’ ladies. Imagine our disappointment to find when we arrived that 2 children's parties were in full swing although to be fair, one of the groups were outside. Ages ranged from between 2 and 5. We had been placed a table away. The children were left to their own devices with the parents sitting on their own and away from the children. At 6.30 another group with children arrived making 3 children's groups and they were seated the other side to us meaning we were stuck between VERY noisy screaming children. The booking for my group was in my name and included my mob number. Why oh why wasn’t I alerted and given choice of moving my time or indeed cancelling my booking. Not everyone wants to be involved in other peoples children. I was surprised that the parents thought the excessive noise was acceptable. Screaming and unruly behaviour seems to be the norm nowadays!!. Needless to say I won’t be visiting the pub again.

Our visit to the Islingword Inn on Good Friday was fine until my family was subjected to the aggressive from a barmaid at around 5:30pm. I’ve been a regular customer at the Islingword Inn for several years now – in fact I’ve seen two changes of management at the pub since I started going. On Friday I went to the pub with my wife, my eldest son, his girlfriend, and my other children. For the most part we all sat in the beer garden as it was such a nice day. Being Easter my oldest son brought the younger children Easter eggs and they eat some of the chocolate in the beer garden. When they’d had enough we put all the eggs in a carrier bag and put them under the bench in the pub so they didn’t melt in the heat outside. The rest of our afternoon was fine. At the time the bar manager was serving behind the bar and she was pleasant as usual. Just before 5:30pm the barmaid started her shift. Our family were all sitting in the beer garden with the children and the barmaid walked out of the pub saying the pub isn’t a cheche and she shouldn’t have to clean up after us. She asked if we’d left our Easter eggs in the pub and I told her yes because we didn’t want them melting outside. They were put under the bench in the pub so they were out of the way. We explained to her that our children had eaten outside in the beer garden and it was in fact another family that had been eating eggs and crisps in the pub and had made a bit of a mess. She wouldn’t accept what we were trying to tell her and became more aggressive. My son went inside to get the Easter eggs as we were going to leave as the barmaid made everyone feel very uncomfortable. On my son’s way back out to the beer garden he heard her say “You’re a piece of sh1t.” and this was aimed at me. My wife went into the pub and spoke with the bar manager about what had happened but said she wasn’t understanding at all and failed to deal with the matter appropriately. She wouldn’t let my wife speak and I would say to be fair perhaps her friendship with the barmaid was put before her professional relationship. The bar manager did apologise to my son when he went back into the pub to pick up my pool cue but he didn’t know how to take that meaning was she sorry for what happened to all of us or was she sorry to him but still implying the blame was with us? As I said I have been a customer for some time. Over the years I have without a doubt spent a considerable amount of money in the pub. My wife said she’d never go in here again and I don’t blame her. This isn’t the first time this barmaid has caused trouble. She has a habit of butting into people’s conversations and has done so in the past and did it to me the week before. She has the potential to cause trouble where no trouble would have existed otherwise. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before she does this to the wrong person. To be honest if I was her boss I would seriously consider if it was wise to even continue employing her.

We recently visited the Islingword Inn on a sunny Friday afternoon as a small group of parents and children at 15.30pm for an impromptu birthday celebration. The staff were surly and rude telling us we should have booked in advance and that the children were not welcome. As a group of parents we probably spent £50 - £70 but apparently this wasn't enough and we were asked to buy drinks for the children. As most parents know this is a waste of money as children have about 2 sips and get bored or just forget they have a drink in the first place. The children were mostly playing on screens but with further hostility from the staff we left. I have been a local resident for 14 years and this is possibly the worst incarnation of this establishment I have known. We took our custom to The Hanover without prior arrangement and they were more than happy to accommodate our group until 8pm. Please don't be fooled by the Hola Bambinos children welcome sign as displayed on the premises as this is clearly not the case.
