Shelter Hall in Brighton and Hove

Have visited on many occasions but this time I really doubt I will return. We had a group of friends and one birthday to celebrate. We were the second table to sing happy birthday and then were pounced upon by the bar manager and advised we were not allowed to sing as it might disturb other guests night out! The table next to us said they had a birthday but wouldn’t sing as they don’t want to be told off in such an embarrassing way. No surprise the table of guys who had sung nothing was said yet the bar manager felt he could have a go at ladies. Thought this sort off sexism was not prevalent in Brighton of all places but obviously we were wrong! Really disappointed.

Generalmente confiamos en disfrutar de nuestra visita, pero la mayoría de nuestra comida proviene de coqfighter que son geniales. Esta vez probamos Saltio Mexicano que encontramos por debajo de la media cerviz tenía demasiados cítricos y los Tacos de Cerdo eran muy sosos, así que no volvería a comer allí. Probamos el nuevo Stakehaus también y esto fue peor mi comida se quemó y desafortunadamente lo arruinó, ya que era todo lo que podía probar, así que tenía que obtener un reembolso que eran muy buenos. Pero basándome en mi experiencia no volvería a usarlo. Me gusta como funciona aquí pero la comida decepcionante hoy solo mi chico está bien y eso fue porque todo lo que tenía era coqgighters Mientras que la comida estaba por debajo de nuestras expectativas el servicio era bueno.

Llevó a su familia para una comida de cumpleaños para mi De cuatro años. Realmente decepcionado. Enviaron una queja y ni siquiera se molestaron en responder. Aquí están mis asuntos clave. - me hicieron hacer cola durante 30 minutos a pesar de que teníamos una reserva (tenía dos niños pequeños conmigo tan en serio no es ideal) -Mi comida llegó 45 minutos después de haber pedido. Cuando llegó mi comida, todos a mi mesa habían terminado de comer. Durante mi espera pedí dos tragos. El primero vino rápido y pedí la misma bebida de nuevo y tardé 20 minutos en llegar. -Estaba en mi segunda rebanada de pizza y mi segunda bebida ni siquiera había llegado y una camarera nos dijo que necesitarían la mesa de vuelta en 20 minutos. Servicio realmente decepcionante. Asqueroso ni siquiera he tenido una respuesta.

No es genial. El filete era tan masticable, que solía ser muy bueno. El precio de todo parece exagerado. El servicio está bien. No volveré ahora.

De hecho, planeamos un almuerzo ligero, ya que ya teníamos planes importantes para la cena. Pero entonces mi esposa vio una receta de pizza en Yeatie Boys y fueron vendidos. Como decidimos compartir pedimos la pizza de 20 pulgadas; con la receta Born Slippy. . . OMG cuando llegó casi cubría toda la mesa. Advertencia. También lo pedí con una cobertura de jamón italiano opcional que realmente hizo la pizza. También tuvimos un par de rondas de cervezas mientras luchábamos con esta pizza. Ganamos, y logramos terminarlo, aunque solo unas pocas costras. Esta fue nuestra primera visita, no lo habíamos planeado y afortunadamente llegamos justo al comienzo de la prisa de la hora del almuerzo un domingo, así que nos dieron atbel sin reservar ni esperar. Recomiendo reservar en días/horas populares. Este es un gran lugar con una amplia selección de opciones de comida y bebida; está justo en la playa con algunas vistas impresionantes del Canal de la Mancha. Pronto volveremos a ser tontos.

Nothing special, chicken was tough & fatty. Disappointing.

Great atmosphere and range of food on offer here. Also, environmentally friendly with use of QR codes or app instead of paper menus and receipts.

The food is not great, yeastie boys and rudis burgers. Pizza was undercooked and way too much tomato sauce making it soggy, burger was meh chops were soggy. Used to be great with Kenny Tutt and Lost Boys - now it’s a mediocre old fashioned food hall at best. No innovation, too low ball for Brighton.

Interesting venue and concept. Lovely views from the mezzanine. Worth a visit, and will certainly return.

Love this venue. Perfect location to enjoy a variety of different cuisines, tasty cocktails and friendly customer service just steps away from the beach.

In Brighton for a few days and ended up eating at the Shelter twice, good variety of food and drink and the quality was really good. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful too.

The whole thing was exceptional. From the fabulous staff (pretty green eyes x you know who you are ) to the good and drinks and speed of service... so good we came back twice in 2 days.... yum!

It’s a great formula and the space works well. Food excellent from the Greek stand and the two burger outlets. Atmosphere marked down as there were too many very loud children. It would be helpful to have members of staff solely responsible for welcoming people as they arrive to explain the table and ordering systems.

We've eaten and drank here many times and once again we had a great experience. Great food and drink and friendly service. Always worth a visit. Another bonus is, they are dog friendly on the terrace and ground floor.

The ambience is great. but the food left a lot moo be desired..The pizza was soggy and over salted. The chips were over salted. The chicken in the burgers was rock solid and the batter over salted.

Loved it- such a great idea if you can’t agree on what to eat. The food is fantastic the service is great and the surroundings are spacious and comfortable. Highly recommend :)

Drinks and service were good but had one of the worst burgers from Rudi's. Completely flavourless and £2 for a tiny sude cup of mayo is outrageous.

Arrived on Monday afternoon, without a booking. We were taken to a lovely balcony table by a very pleasant waiter, who explained how the ordering worked. Nice coffee, great burger and Mex rice bowl. Fair price and tasty. Great view, nice staff and good food.

I really enjoy coming here, and the food is good. We had burgers and the best Mac & cheese bites. It’s just the service. The staff are all pleasant but quite ineffectual. It was a busy Saturday lunch time. People were queuing outside in the cold, and around us there were 4 or 5 empty tables that either hadn’t been cleared or no one realised they were there. Feel like the place could do with a good manager!

I love the Shelter Hall. The food is pretty good (expect street food...but good street food), and the service is fast and friendly. They have the whole 'food hall' process down pat.

Great place to watch the rugby. But you'll need to book!

Food was rushed and had no taste at all . Complete waste of money one of the staff knocked a drink all over my coat . Won’t be coming back a waste of money staying home and gets takeaway would be better .

Absolutely loved everything about our visit, from the friendly FOH staff who welcomed us to the food itself. The paneer thali was the best thing I've eaten for a long while! We will 100% be back next time we are in Brighton!

6 of us ordered a load of food to the centre so we could all share and we were not impressed with the food at all. The drinks and service was good. Shame about the food, tacos were dry, chicken fillets greasy and the Mexican sweetcorn super basic.

The service and staff were great. I found the app fiddly and annoying to use. The private room was a great space. The food we had was mediocre and over priced I wouldn't bother eating it again.

It was our first time and we loved it

Fantastic place to eat & drink, so many choices. Was here with friends last Saturday night & they booked an igloo for us, my only gripe is that it needs to be clearly marked where Shelter Hall is as my friend who made the reservation struggled to find the place & we ended up going in the restaurant above to determine exactly where it is! Also I found the stairwell going down to the place is a little dark especially at night, more lights are definitely needed as a security measure as I did struggle going down the stairs & I feel that potential accidents can happen, pls look at this as a matter of priority!

Fantastic dinner for a friend's birthday. The variety of food makes it a great choice for groups! We happened to be there for one of the Lunar New Year dragon performances too which we all loved.

Visited the first sunny weekend of 2025 with 28-year-olds and a three year-old and a couple of very hungry dads. Excellent service from the hosts, But anything of this nature revolves around the food Crack Yeasty Boys perfectly flavoured kebab from three little piggies but we have to make a very very special mention of Rudi’s burgers. My Eight-year-old daughter has been on a burger journey for the last couple of years but this one stopped her in her tracks.- I could see when it arrived in a beautiful sesame bun with the distinct shape of a smashed burger That this might be quite special - fast forward to the end and my daughter was so inspired that she wrote a note on a napkin to Rudi’s to tell her that it was the best burger she’d ever eaten . By the end of it all the three-year-old summed it up perfectly. ‘it’s like we’re on holiday.’ Felt like Brighton at its best with a completely clear sky on the 2nd of February 2025 full tummies all round and memories made

Our drinks were really nice but they took almost half an hour to arrive, which the server didn't even acknowledge, so left feeling a bit miffed. Otherwise it's a great place, hopefully just a one off.

We had the use of the privet room, every staff member was very attentive and helpful, which made the day and experience so much more enjoyable.

Quick service and clean place was impressed

Arrived with my partner and her best friend the Friday just gone to try out Yeastie Boyz Pizza and Rudi Burger. From start to finish the service was absolutely appalling and genuinely left us in disbelief at how awful it was. We was either being constantly ignored or being constantly given the incorrect meal. As for the food we received all at separate times despite being told it’ll all come at once, it happens but what should never happen is your food not turning up at all?!?! Our Pizza arrived but our food from Rudi Burger never turned up! Why you might ask? Because the WAITER GAVE IT TO THE WRONG TABLE NOT ONCE BUT TWICE! When we asked where our food was for maybe the 4th time to the same young man he just looked at me and giggled and said I’ll refund and sort it now it’ll take 7 days for your money to come back like I didn’t have choice. Felt like he just wanted us out the restaurant like it was our fault. When I came up to the service manager she was sat bang in the middle of the restaurant having a cocktail… she barely made eye contact with me despite me apologising for sounding like a “Karen” but needed to get my point across, she 110% clearly didn’t care at all. Just cannot believe how woeful and disappointing it was. My partner was sick outside the restaurant due to the dough tasting extremely off from Yeastie Boys.

Chicken wings I ordered from Coq were very poor, as were sauces. kebab from 3 pigs was way too salty, calamari was perfect. Other foods were good. Drinks were a little slow but served well by friendly staff. Nice place to spend an evening.

Visited for a new year's party that was mis-sold as having something to do with disco but was really just a random collection of songs sung by 2 perfectly decent artists. Had a great time even though the bar was rammed. The event seemed well organised just not as expected. Enjoyed the food and would be back if there wasn't a perpetual queue outside every time I pass by.

We enjoyed some food and a few drinks in one of their pods overlooking the seafront. Food and drinks were great and speedy friendly service.

Service charge is secretly added on after you agreed the amount on the app. Also why do all the review buttons not work unless you press 5* ??

Igloo booked. Difficult group voucher arrangement, which just didn’t work well at all for the group. Nice food. Service sketchy. One of us didn't receive her order and had to go inside to chase it up. By then, everyone else had finished their food. Igloo could have been warmer. We had to keep our coats on.

Really great to sit “ outside” in a cosy igloo for celebrating a friends winter birthday . Normally we’re huddled indoors somewhere but to feel we were outside and virtually on the beach at Brighton on a sunny but cold winters day was fantastic. With views of Palace (Brighton) pier and the West pier it couldn’t have been better. The process to order food on the app was so easy and all the food was excellent. The server was really helpful and cheerful which made the whole experience one we want to repeat!

The Indian chicken wrap tray was great, nice beers on tap too. Nothing wrong with the atmosphere but it was a Tuesday night, so very quiet.

I’ve dined at Shelter Hall multiple times and the service has always been amazing! Side note: I have recently started getting Rudi’s Burgers veggie halloumi burger and would highly recommend it.

I went here with my 10yr old granddaughter and it was a lovely end to a perfect day. We sat on the balcony watching the sun go down and the staff were lovely. Thanks for a great experience x

This place is like big food market with some counter, you order food and pay first then they deliver to you table if you give the table number, you can pay with card or cash, food was ok .. coffee was excellent .. the views from the balcony are stunning.

Very nice evening, special shout-out to the Australian dude and the lovely folks who brought a second heater to the igloo.

Have visited a number of times now and always look forward to going back. Great variety of cuisines/kitchens to pick from, excellent value and always delicious. Never had a bad meal here. Staff attentive and never have to wait long. Highly recommend.

Always excellent food and lovely service. It’s usually busy with a lively crowd. Some of the best value food in Brighton.

We went for New Years Eve party, it was great fun, Billie Gold was brilliant, would definitely go back next year if she is singing. We only had drinks, which arrived quickly and were good. Welcome drink was a nice touch. It could only have been better if the DJ had played Auld Lang syne after the countdown.

Wonderful service and food and drinks in an igloo outside for New Year’s Eve

Great lunch with friends. One issue and one issue only, which brings what would be 5 star to 4 star. All orders are via an app, and, as usual with such ordering, the app asks that you pay a service, before you have recieved service. I find this totally unacceptable. There is an inbuilt threat that you won't receive good service unless you do, and I refuse to pay service before I've received service. However the real issue is after my food and drinks I went to try to pay some tip and, for a cashless place (and in 2025, who carries cash?) they only accepted cash tips, with no capacity to take a card one. Whoever runs this place needs to sort this out (and owes the tip jar a tenner on my behalf, as their choice of set up shorted their staff!) Don't be so presumptius and offensive before ordering, and let me tip your staff on card after ordering. Please. Food and service were great. Bit spenny but that comes with the location. Would definitely be 5 stars if they hadn't done the above.

We had an early dinner in one of the igloos on New Year's Eve. It was well insulated with a heater so we were comfortable even when the wind was really rough. There were lots of food options for both of us as there are 7 kitchens on site and, even though we ordered from different places, the food arrived quickly and at the same time. We really enjoyed our visit and would happily go back next time we're in Brighton.

Went in NYE for their disco party. Was so much fun, that had live entertainment and a DJ until late and it was a great atmosphere. All the staff were great and looked like they were really enjoying being there too.

Stopped for lunch on Boxing Day. Shelter Hall was really festive and inviting. The food was good, service was great, a really enjoyable experience so will definitely go back next time we’re in Brighton.
