We go to the Mayflower regularly for lunch on a Saturday. The Senior Moments menu is good value and plenty for us. The regular menu is extensive but prices are quite high for a village eatery. The staff are great, attentive but not overly so. Soft drinks are a bit on the expensive side.Food is great quality, freshly prepared and very well presented. At busy times there can be a delay in service. If you have a large party it is advisable to book.

Firstly let me just say how well trained the staff are. From start to finish, all the staff were “on the ball” and so observant. Now onto the fayre. We went twice in December, Christmas Sunday and Boxing Day. On both occasions thefood came out well presented and piping hot.The value for money was “ top drawer”, with all aspects of the meal faultless.I feel this place is well under the radar and definitely worth a punt.

We have visited the mayflower a handful of times over the last 5 years. It used to be amazing. But slowly over time it seems to be getting poorer quality. after today’s visit I have come to the conclusion, they have managed to suck every bit of flavour and texture out of the food. Which is a talent in itself. We visited today to try it again for a Sunday lunch, as we were passing, hoping it had improved and gone back to its former glory. But sadly this was not the case, the plated roast was worse than a poorchain Sunday carvery. For £13.50 a head it simply is not worth it.

Very welcoming and accommodating- food absolutely brilliant every time. The fish is outstanding. It’s our favourite place in the area. Excellent value for money, even better if you are eating from the mature people’s menu. We really cannot fault anything about this place. My wife and I ate here earlier in the week to celebrate my birthday. We have dined here before and usually find it very good. Unfortunately, this time it was a story of two extremes. On the one hand my fillet steak was one of the best I have had in many years and cooked to medium rare perfection. On the other hand the steak and stilton pie was very disappointing, four pieces of beef, a load of mushrooms and not a bit of stilton to be tasted or seen. We did mention it to the staff but got no real response, just a blank look. My wife very much enjoyed the sweet and I requested a blue cheeseboard and a port. Cheese was fine but the port was served in a whisky tumbler and was 25ml not 50ml, which is the correct measure. Again this was mentioned at the time but no action taken. All in all a real shame. Having been in the business all my working life , I realise that consistency is difficult to achieve in this type of catering but it is so very, very important. All I can say is ‘could do better’.

Well I dont know what to say really......Ive been here numerous times to the grill night with my friend and never had a bad meal, however, last night was a different matter. There was 8 of us fo my dads 73rd birthday. We all ordered off the grill menu. The 2 kids had chips with theirs but all the rest ordered new potatoes, which theyve swapped before. When the meals came out, the young waitress apologised and said "i'm sorry but hes done chips for everyone". I was furious. How can they not come and inform us of this prior to bringing the meals out. My steak should have been medium, but was well done. My mums was rare and should have been medium/rare and the 2 gammons which were supposed to be 12oz were smaller than the 8oz steaks. Only 6 of the 8 sauces came out too. I was really disappointed as it was my idea to go there as Ive never had a bad meal. Please visit and make your own conclusions as maybe the chef was having a bad day!

We chose the two course Sunday lunch menu. Not sure if you can only have the main course. Started with prawn salad, which was as expected. My husband then had turkey roast lunch (plenty of turkey) and I had nut roast lunch. Mine was very tasty with its own separate gravy which was probably red currant jelly. Well cooked and quite big portions, costing £13 each. The drinks were a tad expensive though, we had the same drinks in another pub on the way home for 90p less.

Twice I have eaten in the bar / restaurant and found the food to be of good quality and well presented with a nice variety. The most memorable however and always the bit I tend to look forward to most with a hotel visit is breakfast and the breakfast takes some beating - fantastic choice and lots to help yourself to as starters etc. The staff are very friendly and will try hard to look after you - makes a refreshing change

We came here for a family birthday and all thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It was an early evening visit and we had booked a table to be sure. Easy to spot the restaurant as it is a beautiful deep blue building and has a good sized car park at the rear. Greeted warmly and shown to our table. We'd soon had our order taken and it wasn't long before we had all got our meals in front of us. All beautifully served, hot and tasty, meat dishes cooked to our individual taste.Delicious. Also enjoyed desserts, a good range to choose from, clean plates all round, again ! As it was during the very hot weather we were delighted to find that the restaurant had air-conditioning. So our visit was very comfortable, not too cool, just right. Staff were lovely and attentive too without being intrusive. Certainly worth more visits from us.

But my wife needs to be Gluten Free, Alcohol Free and Fat Free, so all she could eat was oven cooked Bream and it came on a bed of lettuce etc. What! So surprised we should have said where are the vegetables etc but didnt☹️ I had the Pie, but the beans and the cabbage was raw, hard, not good so I left them. No one came to ask if everything was alright. It took over and hour from ordering to come. Then for the pudding. They could not cater for my wife. So she asked could they do fruit and custard, the waitress came back with “sorry, no fruit” how about a banana, still no. I had a pudding on my own it was my birthday so I really wanted one but ate on my own! People were staying there so what would they be having for breakfast? Booked to stay for one night for business, we arrived and at check in, which is in the main bar, we were told the wifi was down so they had no record of our booking, not a problem in itself and one that could not be helped. At check in we offered to pay for the accommodation but we were told we could pay later. The room was nicely decorated but not quite the luxury suite as described, the mattress on the bed was actually 2 that seemed to be zipped together in some way so not the best. We decided to go for a drink at the bar, we ordered our drinks and were asked if we would want to eat, we were undecided and as I was about to take a seat at a table I was told that if we were only having a drink we could only sit at the 'tall tables by the door' not quite what i expected as a paying guest. We went back to the room and there was quite a lot of noise coming from the bar below but as it had been a long journey and we had an early start we decided to go to bed and then realised that the zipped together mattresses didn't actually fit the bed?? Not the best nights sleep at all.. Then at 9pm there was a knock at the door followed by somebody trying the door handle to get in the room, it turns out it was a staff member who was asking for us to pay the bill??? We had to get up, get dressed and walk outside, into the bar and pay for the room. We have both stayed in lots of hotels for work but neither of us have ever experienced anything like this before, really poor service and I am just glad that I was not on my own. We didn't stay for breakfast so cannot comment on the food, to be honest the poor customer service left a bad taste. Would definitely not be returning,

Was a bit hit and miss, one of the mains ( Yorkshire grazing board) was missing 3 elements, which was rectified once pointed out, but was a bit farcical as we had to study the menu again to clarify what we actually should have had. However once complete it was an impressive choice for the price. The captains table was on the whole tasteless and difficult to distinguish between all the deep fried selection.. The lamb was very very good, as was the pie. Deserts were all ok except the hot cross bun bread and butter pudding was awful, very dense and rubbery. We maybe should have mentioned that, but after all the fuss getting the main right we did not like to keep complaining to the waitress. She did a great job despite the initial mistakes. As the menu is so interesting and the prices reasonable we will probably give it another go, and hope we just went on an off day.

First visit on Friday night. Very disappointing experience. The young waitress was untrained and unhelpful throughout the evening. The manager gent looked on but didn't make an effort to be friendly or helpful. Asked what gins they stocked, delighted to hear they had a number of premium and local gins but whilst they charged premium prices for them they were poorly served with one lump of ice floating. I asked for lime but the waitress couldn't be bothered, my husband asked for a bit of lemon in his coke 3 times but again, she would rather stand at the bar talking and didn't bother bringing it.The seafood platter was very nicely served, hot and tasty but not enough for 3 and expensive. Everything on the menu is overpriced. The Penang curry was dull and the balance of flavours lacking. Far too many onions. The duck was not tender. The chicken and goats cheese pie whilst tasty had very little chicken in it and the lumpy mash had been sat around and then reheated so long it had a crust on it. We just expected more for our money and at city restaurant prices it needs to be so much better than the mediocre pub grub and poor service we experienced.

The pub was quite busy when we arrived for our 7.30 table but was really quiet a couple of hours later.I chose the ribs on this visit. Served with salad, chips and sour cream. It was a full rack and they were huge! The meat was falling of the bone and was divine. Quite possibly the best ribs I've had - melt in the mouth meat in a delicious BBQ sauce. Despite being "full" there was room for dessert - sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Absolutely gorgeous. Service was friendly and efficient. Might be tempted to steak night next!!!

We pre booked and were shown straight to table where the waitress took our drinks order and came back after 15 minutes for our food order We had to ask after 40 minutes how long our food would take it then appeared within a few minutes, the food was overpriced and disappointing. We won't be making a second visit

Booked a table for 7.30/7.45 and confirmed. When we arrived, the manager said oh you haven't booked have you? Then there was a commotion about finding us a table even though there were more than enough spare! Didn't offer us drinks until the waiter had sat us down to ask, as the manager was too busy chatting to someone who had been served. Partner had a pint of Heineken which tasted disgusting. I don't drink lager and even I thought it tasted metallic! Met a couple there who said their food was cold and the manager had been rude to them. Waited for 20 minutes for someone to come to take our order which even the waitress said we didn't have to stay. Left and my partner begrudgingly paid 5 pounds for his pint that he'd had 3 sips out of and told the manager that we'd left the money on the bar for the terrible pint to which she replied see ya, thanks (sarcastically!). Absolutely awful, not recommending to family/friends and will not be returning.

Where to start......visited mayflower for lunch with my mum on Friday afternoon. We took our purple voucher book as we never get chance normally to use these so we decided to go here to use ours. OK to start with the menu was shocking, all frock and no knickers springs to mind! We ate our sub standard meal and asked for the bill presenting our voucher to be told that we couldn't use it as it was for 4 people, to cut a long story short we were told that it wasn't to be accepted and that they would get the manager for us to talk to. Wow! The only way I can describe what greeted us was one of the most obnoxious men I have ever met! To believe that he was the owner was shocking with how he spoke to us! As we challenged his refusal to accept our voucher as we were not a party of 4 (we checked with the voucher company and they confirmed that he was making the rules up as he went along!) He did start to raise his voice and become annoyed with us talking to us like children! As you can imagine this did not go down well and he continued to argue with us in front of the whole pub! We paid the bill and left. We will NOT be returning here! The food was horrible and well overpriced and the owner was aggressive and obnoxious. I definitely would not recommend eating there!

Booked here for a surprise 60th birthday meal for my husband, chose The Mayflower as we've been many times before and know the food is good. Staff are lovely but the Manager needs to learn some Customer Care skills, he is rude, won't be returning will take my business elsewhere as there's lots of places to eat locally.

They only serve lunch until 2:00 and we arrived just about 1/2 before but we got a nice meal and the atmosphere was pleasant. It was nothing to write home about but it was better than we expected to find in this little berg of a town. Actually it was about all there was.

We visited this restaurant for my mother-in-laws birthday on a Saturday night. At first the service was slow and the waitress was less than pleasant, our food took forever to arrive and when it did we were all extremely disappointed. Firstly they had run out of dauphinoise potatoes, the duck was supposed to be served rare but was well-done and dry, the steaks were supposed to be rare but came blue and our sides didn't appear. Overall the waitress did not apologise once for any of the inconvenience which would've softened the blow a little when the bill came, £210 for 6 people, 2 courses each and 2 drinks each. Atrocious amount of money for the poor quality food and service we received, certainly will not be visiting again.

I'm not from Doncaster so haven't a clue where to eat, so visiting the Mayflower for a family birthday was a new experience. The pub is nicely decorated and we were sat in the dining area towards the back. The menu is what you would expect from a good eating establishment with traditional favourites as well as a grill menu. We started with a couple of the Mayflower sharing boards and this turned out to be a great choice; chicken wings, garlic bread, mozzarella sticks, jalapeño poppers and the most amazing pork ribs. A really enjoyable sharing board. Next came the mains and all were fantastic. Steaks, mixed grill, Thai noodles, lasagne, breaded fish and lamb rump were all superb. A great evening in a lovely restaurant.

Nice venue lovely staff but did not enjoy my meal over cooked taco shell ( inedible) dry and very little beef padded out with boiled rice felt like a bad exercise in using leftovers my partner enjoyed his fish and chips but felt they weren't as good as a neighbouring pub (significantly cheaper) restaurant prices for an average expensive meal disappointed visited a couple of years ago when they had a better menu and better food at better prices shan't return for some time but south Doncaster needs more good pub food venues

I have not given this 5 stars purely because, I felt that on the day, there was just too many parties under one roof.Got invited to a party. We were still sat at the bar whilst the majority of people (many of whom I didn't know) had come in from another entrance and were seated and already eating. The staff new we were there for a party but did not ask us which one. All very awkward. The food was ok. Fish and chips very greasy. Maybe on a quieter day it would have been better. Best to meet up with everyone before you go in. Personally, I felt stared at a lot at the bar.

We visit the Mayflower regularly; the last occasion being a surprise birthday party for a good friend. The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming, the staff pleasant and friendly and the food is consistently excellent. Nothing is ever too much trouble and no matter how busy the staff are always polite and attentive. The food ... from a rump steak that melts in the mouth, through Thai Curries, Fish and Chips to Bangers and Mash ... is always beautifully presented, tasty and a consistent high standard. If you are hungry try the Godfather Burger ... but you do need to be hungry as I've never seen such a beautifully presented, huge burger with all the trimmings! Awesome, better than I've eaten in the States! We will keep returning as long as Rob and his fabulous team keep up this superb standard!

Our favourite place to eat out in the area, we can pop over for dinner mid-week both of us wanting entirely different things and be content with the range and quality on offer from the Mayflower. Management on entry are rather abrupt and query our booking every time in that condescending way 'have you booked a table' and huff when we say no. Something that's always perplexed me when there are plenty of tables available. The food is always fantastic. There are plenty of great starters to choose from and sharing platters. The food is a rustic/boutique take on pub grub. We rarely have dessert as the meals are well sized and filling.Once past management, the waiting staff are always attentive and polite.

We decided to celebrate Christmas on Boxing Day this year due to other commitments and we are pleased we did. I scoured the internet for weeks from September for Christmas & Boxing Day menus to find a good selection of food that suited us on all 3 courses. The Mayflower came up trumps. I called and booked a table and was pleased when they could accommodate a last minute increase from 3 people to 5 people. For £20 each & £10 for our daughter, the selection was brilliant. We each opted for our favourite starters which included pate, garlic mushrooms & mozarella sticks. Our main courses were very well presented - My parent and husband optioed for a traditional dinner complete with veg & yorkshire pudding. I fancied a change and opted for Lobster & Crab ravioli which was rich and creamy and very filling. Puddings were generously sized and after a hearty dinner were difficult to finish but none the less delicious. The waiting staff were pleasant, friendly and more than accommodating with our requests and needs. I've never eaten at The Mayflower before and after this I will most definitely be returning and recommending to all. We can't wait to return.

We went here to celebrate our fathers birthday. We were seated nr the bar and even though they were not to busy we were squashed up on the table could have done with a larger table. Staff were attentive drinks order taken then given time to look through the menu to decide which meals we wanted. Again asked if we wanted more drinks. All in all we were asked at least 6 times throughout the meal If we'd like more drinks. Bit too many in my opinion. Food came very nice food not too much on the plates but enough to fill you. Desert menu was given a few different choices and the Ines who had deserts enjoyed them nice size portions. I would go again but it'd be on a Monday steak night as I found it to be quite expensive and not worth the price we paid there is plenty of pubs to go to for food which is as good but a lot cheaper

I had been recommended the venue, so thought why not.I was extremely pleased with the venue, it was clean and comfortable. The service was good and extremely friendly. The meals were very well cooked and the steak and haggis pie was extremely tasty. The price was reasonable, so I can only say that the place is value for money. I will be returning, as this is a bit of a hidden gem.

We arrived here expecting good things as of the price expect when we arrived it was a little awkward dragging our things through a pub full of people to check in. We were told no food or drinks would be served yet around us lots of people were eating and drinking. We are of course not stupid and figured out for ourselves that it was a book in only dining thing on boxing day like christmas day which i thought was wierd. Considering we were hotel guests we should have been allowed to order food and drink or at least been told before hand that we had to book as when we arrived we were hungry. We managed to get one drink and someone came to the table we sat at and gave us menus...more confusing! The room was way too small, no bath and breakfast was small and cold. ALSO 8:30-9AM for breakfast the day after boxing day? Should have been later considering the place was dead the next day. We also looked back through emails beforehand to see what time we could check in- which was between 5pm-10pm which i thought was late only to have a phonecall the day of check in to be told it had to be before 5pm as they were closing! I was so annoyed as had already planned my day around checking in after 5pm. They need to make things more clear to hotel guests and their own staff and treat us just as they were treating their customers who were eating and drinking as we are most likley paying the higher bill. I wont stay again just becauae of all the confusion and very small room.

I had pre booked a table weeks in advance for my sons christening celebration meal, which i had informed them with everyone's Sunday lunch choices and was told not a problem and they looked forward to seeing us! I was also told there was a party booked at 11:45 that day but would be leaving by 2pm which we would then arrive! We then arrived just after 2pm, it was very busy so we all made our way to the bar as there was no where else to stand! There was no meet or greet from any staff members and all the staff looked stressed. We all stood there for a good 10 minutes to then be spoken to very rudely by the manager to move out of the way as they were trying to serve food! I then went to the bar and asked politely when we would be seated as i had pre booked a table, i was told we would have to wait as the party before us were still there! It was 3pm (no apology for waiting an hour) by the time we were then taken to our seats which were all separate tables apart from each other, not two big tables together like i was told! At this point we were all very hungry so we just sat down! When the food came out it was cold and the choice of vegetables were cauliflour cheese, sloppy carrot and swede and saute onions! And we had to share this between four of us on our table! Our other guests had to wait for the vegetables so there dinner was stone cold by the time they had everything on there plates! We were given dessert menus but then no one came to take any orders as they presumed because we had a cake (which they had forgotten to bring out too!) we didn't want a dessert ( so why bring out menus?!) Then the final straw was one of our guests was given the bill receipt with a calculator and pen to be told to sort it out between ourselves!!( how embarrassing!) My mum complained to the manager who then spoke to her in a very patronizing manner and told her it had been a very stressful day and they had done their best! So not only unprofessional but no apology at all or even a good will gesture to our party. So overall our family christening meal didn't feel like a celebration at all, in fact we felt like we had walked off the streets and demanded a table! It was clear they wanted us fed and gone! So what had started off a very special day had ended up ruined all because of the mayflower! I will never be returning to that establishment and will never recommend to anyone.

Went here on Sunday with 8 couples and 6 children for a pre booked 2-30 p.m.,Sunday lunch menu. the premise was absolutely packed when we arrived at just gone 2p.m. So we all ordered drinks and stood at the bar until we could be called. After several conversations with the staff the previous occupiers of the tables had finally gone at 3p.m.Our kids had this point were still behaved so we sat down at different numbered tables throughout the rear of the restaurant and ordered our food. Some had decided to have 2 course of starter and main and others main and sweet so no problem .Eventually at 4p.m.the staff (who were very apologetic) fetch the starters out and then the main course. The only problem with the main course was that they brought all the tables their meats before bringing out any vegs or gravy,so the first table had to wait over 10 mins for their veg AND only after someone went up to the bar and asked where it was..Obviously most dinners were cold and the manager was sent for,but all he did was try and antagonise the lady who was complaining and saying he had had a busy day and practically just fobbing her off,Anyway we all settled down and when finished those who had decided to have sweet asked for a menu and were promptly given them. After waiting 15 mins no one came so the staff were asked again, they were told that because we were cutting a cake that they thought we would not want sweet!!WHY ASK FOR MENUSFinally our table went up to pay for the 4 of us but were told that all the tables had been grouped together, even though people had had different menus! The guy in charge promptly reeled a till receipt off with probably 35 items on gave the guy a calculator and said sort it out yourselves .After another 30 mins of sorting everything out our ordeal was over.On leaving, the manager was confronted again and the only excuse was that it was too busy and he was stressed.Would not recommend this expensive bar and restaurant to anyone as I'm sure the rest of the party will agree ...
