Arranged to meet a friend after checking the opening times on Facebook confirming Monday opening. Arrived at 6 to find the doors locked. Both of us had travelled some distance picking the pub as it was halfway between our home. We were not the only disappointed customers. A mum and dad with two toddlers arrived at the same time who had the same experience. It's never been easier to publish opening times so no excuses. Bad customer service.

The owners were obviously on holiday when we booked for our meal. The gentleman serving was exceptionally hospitable, however when we ordered our food that's when the ordeal began! The food came, we received an apology straight away as one of the meals was wrong, and the meals that did arrive ALL had burnt chips, see photo! I requested more chips and they brought out some more burnt chips! They were the deepest brown and were not palatable what so ever. At this point the fourth meal had still not arrived. The mushy peas were cold and watery, the onion rings never materialised and the only veg I had with the steak was a small bowl of coleslaw....oh, and a mushroom. Even though they halved our bill, that was still too much for the dire quality of food we got. A disappointing evening. We shall not be returning.

Been here a few times now since its become the grazing hearts and been impressed until today. Went for my fiancee's birthday Sunday lunch. When the main course came the mash potatoe was smash and the cauliflower cheese was overcooked and burnt across the top. I felt very disappointed after my last visits

I do not write reviews normally but having seen some of the reviews for this pub/restaurant, I felt it was only fair to let people my experience. My wife and l have eaten there several times over the last months or so and never had a bad meal, in fact the opposite, the food as been spot on, and the service very good and helpful, things like, when I did not know which new beer to have I was given a sample to try, the same with the food not sure which dish to have a small bowl of two were brought out to try, it seems to me some people don't like the old smelly pub that was the plough moving on to the new Grazing Hart, please give it a try.

Terrible experience. I booked a table for three people 6:30 Friday. We were told it was burger night. Very kindly my mother was offered an alternative due to wheat allergies. We sat and enjoyed the freshly refurbished surroundings. An hour later we received two cold burgers and a very cold steak with charcoal looking pieces a mushrooms! We sat a further 10 minutes for our side dishes (chips & onion rings) they never came! I do not understand why this happened, as only three diners ordered before us. How can you get such a simple order so wrong and serve it cold and I mean cold not even slightly warm. We dare not eat any of the food that did arrive and left very disappointed and hungry.

After reading previous reviews of Sunday lunch, we decided to visit last Sunday. As a result I have come to the conclusion that everyone's expectations vary enormously. To be fair, there was nothing wrong with the lunch, except it was just a bit boring, and rather unexciting and tasteless. On a positive note, there was ample food, and it was hot. My issue was with the starters, all priced at £5. We plumped for soup, which was tomato. It was underwhelming to say the least. It looked like, and tasted like, packet soup. Wishy washy, tasteless......not very nice. Call me Scrooge, but at £5 we were not impressed. To top it off, the man on the next table got his phone out, and rather loudly started watching the F1. Who does that at the dinner table? Sadly, we won't be revisiting in a hurry.Footnote. Why didn't I complain at the time? We had taken my mother-in-law, it was her treat to us, and we didn't want to upset her.

A most brilliant night at the plough. A giant bonfire and a very impressive firework display made the decision to go to the plough on 5th November a good one. On top of that I had a few fine pints of Blacksheep. A couple of minor grumbles, the hotdogs and burgers were a little pricey, so I did without, and the bar ran out of Bailey's. However, overall, I would honestly say this is a pub well worth a visit.

A lovely big pub on the top of micklebring with stunning views across Rotherham. It's what you would expect a country pub to be. It needs some updating with the decor and the chairs need swapping out as they are uncomfortable and creaky! We both ordered the hunters chicken which was a massive plate full when it came, the chips were definitely the best thing on the plate though, the veg had gone watery and soggy seemed like it had been over boiled. We decided to skip dessert and head home instead. Nice setting with good drinks on tap but wouldn't come back to eat here.

Me and my son sometimes go to the Plough for a pint. The beer is good but mobile phone and internet reception is poor. (We are on different networks so it is probably a dead spot location) I appreciate some people might say "great" but this is a frustration to us. Perhaps the pub should explore complimentary wi-fi for customers as many other places have.

We enjoyed a meal here yesterday.I had peppered chicken and my husband had three lamb chops. Both meals were well cooked and presented and we had no issues with vegetables as a previous reviewer had. The best part of the evening for me was the lemon and lime posset. I have occasionally had this before at other establishments, but never had the taste and volume to match The Plough's. The best part for my husband was staring at the traffic on the motorway! I must say there is no accounting for taste but it was an exceptional view - if you like cars!!!.

Having read reviews about The Plough on this site I thought I would give it a go. The menu looked interesting so I plumped for the garlic mushrooms which were nicely cooked and very tasty. Up next was homemade Steak and Ale Pie. The pie itself was lovely although the topping was a little on the leathery side. But what about the vegetables? The tasteless carrots and peas must have been picked when the lady on the continuous loop 8 track was at her height. They (and she) were awful. To purge my taste buds I had the homemade syrup sponge with pouring cream. The sponge was as light as a feather and delicious. All in all an above average eating experience dragged down by those dreadful veggies.

Visited this pub on a Sunday afternoon having phoned ahead to reserve a table. Arrived just before the booked time, told the lady at the bar we had booked and we were led to our table next to the window (great views by the way). There was plenty of choice on the menu, we both went for the roast beef Sunday dinner and this was more than generous. Good quality meat, fresh vegetables and a choice of potatoes. My other half said the cabbage was amazing (I'm not a cabbage fan so can't comment). The Yorkshire pudding was home made and delicious. We both had a dessert, a brownie with ice cream and a syrup sponge with cream and these were both very tasty and a good quality. Altogether this food came to under £30 including a drink each which we were very happy with - we will be visiting again.

The Plough at Micklebring is a family run business, the landlord, landlady and all the staff are extremely friendly every time you visit and are happy to help. I regularly visit the Plough with my husband and other family members and always receive the same level of service, standard of home cooked food and beer. Tonight was no exception, cheesy garlic bread to start.. which was delicious then we ordered 4 main meals, peppered chicken, 10oz sirloin steak, homemade steak & ale pie and sea bass in a Thai sauce. All meals were beautiful, well presented, well cooked and tasted great!! 4 empty plates and could of licked the plate if there weren't other guests dining at the same time!!! Lots of choice of beer, wine and other drinks. Desserts looked nice too just wished I could of managed one of those too!Would definitely recommended a trip to the Plough if you are looking for a family run country pub, friendly service, great homemade food, good beer and a view that is not too shabby too!!

When I was working and could afford it we would go to the Plough 2-3 times a month to eat. It's not the cheapest around but we've always found the quality to be very good and that's why we went back so often. The pub is in a small village between Rotherham and Doncaster and overlooks the busy A1, but is surrounded by green fields and a heck of a view. If the weather is good they have quite a few benches outside for families or drinkers. We had not been to the Plough for a while so we paid them a visit around 6.30pm on a Saturday tea-time and found the place to be on the quiet side to what we had expected. My measure of how good a I feel a pub is has been based on the steak pie. The Plough was my number one rating for a long time, but we've travelled a bit since. It's still darned good, and compared to some of the slop you get in the chain pubs it's in a different league. Nice chunks of lean steak with a rich gravy and a piece of crumbly crust, it's obviously served from a large dish. The chips are home made and served with peas and carrots that were by no means 'yesterdays' as a previous reviewer suggested.I rate their steak pie as my third favourite, which isn't a bad thing. I'd still go back for more.My wife had a cod and king prawn mornay from the specials board which she really enjoyed and commented on how nice it was.The Black Sheep bitter was a new barrel, I was warned before they served me. Nothing wrong with it, a tad 'green' but that's expected when they change it. I've never had a bad pint here, I'll put it that way, and we've been going for many years before I started doing these reviews.Nice friendly and efficient staff too, quick to take our order and to clear away after we had finished. No doubt that we will be going back another time.

We found this pub on a Google search whilst staying at the nearby Hellaby Hall hotel. It has a wonderful view over the valley and on the evening we visited it was warm enough to spend a little time sitting outside and taking it in. Inside, the pub has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We had pre-booked as it was a Saturday night. When we arrived there were plenty of spare tables, but by the time we left it was pretty busy. This isn't surprising as the food was lovely; clearly home-cooked and with a good choice. The beer was well kept too. When next we are back in the area we will return to the Plough for certain.

The food was no more than average but on the pricey side. I had a prawn cocktail which had an average portion of prawns on a very basic salad - price £5.50 - should really have been no more than £3. A home made steak pie for main with peas, carrots and a slightly burned jacket potato at £8.95. The pie was nice but vegetables only average - probably worth about £7. My wife had the garlic (button) mushrooms with garlic bread. For the £4.50 paid, an assortment of wild mushrooms and no garlic bread would have been more appetising. As for the goat's cheese salad she had for her main course, there was plenty of goat's cheese, but the salad was extremely basic, and on the whole the £9.50 was not justified (£5 nearer the mark). We thought we would try this place out having seen it on the hill from the M18 and the website seemed to paint a good picture - but we will not be going again. It seemed to be a tired place lacking any real atmosphere with only one other table occupied.
