Didn't realise the pub doesn't open until 12 - only 15 mins to wait and the staff let me use the loo and were so friendly! It was Tuesday so thought it would be OK not to book = wrong! So popular do book so you are not disappointed! Because we were early we managed to get a table for 2 (just) When our meals arrived we realised why it was soooo busy = excellent food!! And lots of it - defo worth every penny and would highly recommend. I had quiche with sweet pot fries and salad and my partner fish n chips = both excellent! We will be back and have already recommended to my friends who live near - they are visiting soon (and making a booking)!

Lovely staff, ☺️Our food was just ok,nothing special at all. The pub needs a nice makeover or at least carpets and seating needs a deep clean. We had food in the restaurant area. The tables were set and looked ok, but the floor was covered in food that people had dropped… Why not clean the tables and also the chairs and the carpet underneath ? That would be great!😊

Oh dear, what has happened to the lovely Marsh. I went yesterday for dinner with friends. Firstly my dining chair was covered in stains. The carpet was filthy The service was very slow, The meal was so disappointing. The staff in the dining area seem to be young teenagers who don't seem to stay long. I've been going to the Marsh for years, but I'm afraid yesterday was my last visit.

Was our favourite place but today v disappointed and humiliating. Despite been asked to change time and getting email confirmation when we arrived man v abrupt saying he’d rang us as we and hour late then said “ head office “ do emails !! 45 wait for food with no apology or warning . Food lovely as usual but I was charged full price for a roast dinner when I ate no meat ! When queried young waitress went to ask and wax told no “ same price as dinner with meat “! Asked to speak to manager . Lady said “ vegetables just as dear as meat these days and we’d be missing out and staff all working hard in the kitchen “!! Eventually after an embarrassing time discussing this on the corridor and after I mentioned contacting head office of the chain she reluctantly said “ ok I will knock you two quid off” . Frankly ruined our family Easter after ordering meals, puddings, drinks and a bottle of wine ! Beware vegetarians !!

Absolutely brilliant! We were a 3 generation family celebrating my mum's 90th birthday and all loved our meals. The children/ pensioners menu was great and the adults portions were a large size. My Sunday roast was off the pensioners menu and I couldn't manage it all! Roast beef, cabbage, broccoli and carrots.new potatoes, a yummy Yorkshire pudding and fabulous gravy. The prices were reasonable, good fresh food and friendly service. The only thing is I want to go back ASAP. Well done to this fabulous pub.

Local place, and was so hoping for better. I realised that all hospitality are struggling for staff, but if you are going to sell food don’t put this second place to beverage. Seated at 6pm after asking for our table that they had clearly forgot. Managed to get our order after asking, starters came 20 mins later, decent starters. We then got our main at 7.40, ok meal, pretty bland chilli, under seasoned steak, we had to ask for more knives and folks, salt and pepper. Really good pub struggling to be better than it is, less bookings better service

Recently had a meal with my family (4 people) at The Marsh. We ordered a starter which arrived promptly, however we had to wait 25-30 mins before we had to ask a waitress where our main course was, as people who had arrived after us had been served first. The waitresses attitude was poor and told us she had to serve others first. There were other staff walking between the conservatory eating area and the bar but they were not paying any attention to the needs of the people in the conservatory. The waitress continued to serve other tables and eventually reluctantly turned her attention to us. The food was good but spoilt by having sat for some time after being cooked. I would say if we hadn't paid for the food upfront, we would have left sooner only paying for the starter.

The staff were pleasant and helpful and food was served promptly. We felt comfortable in a relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately the food was not very good. The burger was gristly, Beef stew in Yorkshire pudding was tasty but had little meat in it and was served with no veg except potato. The dessert fridge was broken, limiting our choice of desserts. Fairly unsatisfactory

We visited The Marsh for a family event to be seated on separate tables that wasn’t located close together with no effort for us all to be seated together. We took it upon ourself to move the tables ourself so we could be sat closer together, still no offer to help. Volume of the music changes drastically on regular occurrences, not something you want when you’re having a conversation while eating food. Also the music being played in the restaurant area had swearing and racially offensive words at 6:30pm, small children was in the restaurant and is very inappropriate. The waitresses customer service was terrible and have no understanding of manners. The waitress was rude, unpleasant and didn’t seem to want to take orders or help. “Service with a smile” doesn’t seem to be have communicated during training. Walking away while we are also still talking to the waitress is also very rude. Eye rolling also isn’t appreciated when we are paying customers. When ordering deserts all orders were taken to be then told 15 minutes later they were out of certain items and only had 1 cheesecake when 3 was ordered. This should be told when placing orders not 15 minutes later. When placing a ice cream order we was asked what flavour we wanted, when asking what flavours they had we was told “plain” very helpful! I would also like to point out we ordered 5 days before due to being a large sitting. Enough deserts should have been kept for what had been ordered. To top it off a hair was found in someone’s ice cream!!! When we made the waitress aware there was no apology or a offer of an alternative, absolutely shocking. We shall not be returning or recommending to anyone!

Having lived in the area for 40 years this was my first visit to The Marsh and I was pleasantly surprised. We were warmly greeted by pleasant, smiling staff who directed us to choose our own table. A lot of tables were occupied but we managed to get one by the window in a bright and warm dining area which is more like a conservatory. The menu was varied with something for everyone. Service at the bar was efficient and very friendly with a good selection of craft beers. We ordered our food and were served within a very acceptable time span. The pies were delicious with tender beef and plenty of it. The steak and kidney pie was, likewise, very tasty with a good proportion of kidney. The salmon fillet was slightly overcooked but was very acceptable. The vegetables were also slightly overcooked but the chips were well cooked and very tasty. The staff were extremely pleasant. We went as a large party of nearly forty people booked in for 12 pm. Service was very slow with the main course being served at 1. 40 pm. Dessert was served just before 3 pm and mince pies arrived at 3.30 after several of the party had left. Coffee was not brought to the table - everyone had to make their way to the bar to collect it individually which caused problems with people trying to squeeze past each other with cups of hot coffee.

We visited The Marsh with friends for lunch. The choice was good, the quality was equally so and the price was good What let's this place down is the scant disregard for the environment outside the building. The worst group of offenders are the Backy Burners who unfortunately cannot consume the cork tip, such a shame the manufacturers can't make them edible. As a result the entrance is littered with tab ends and other litter, with a gulley in the same state.Facilities exist for the correct disposal of rubbish but alas we don't live in that sort of world. It therefore lands in the lap of the management to clear up after them, thereby enhancing the lovely planters in which they have invested .A tidy exterior is a welcoming feature.Sadly the Marsh is not alone and other public places are equally as untidy.

It was OK. This just about sums it up for me. I've never been here to eat before but plenty of my family have. We went for a very large family meal (30 of us) and this brings it's own challenges for the kitchen in terms of getting food out. We weren't having one huge order and each table ordered and paid separately and some tables were even split again. Some people chose a starter, most didn't. The starters appeared reasonably quickly but then the mains took quite some time to come, with some people having finished their food before other tables even got theirs. It just felt slow and like they couldn't quite cope, despite there appearing to be plenty of staff. They accommodated us bringing out own cake which was good of them, but due to the amount of time it took to get everyone fed, desserts eaten etc the whole cake thing was rushed. The food. Well the menu had a good range of options. The children's meals are very good value. Personally I went for steak and ale pie, it was piping hot, seriously hot. I'd practically eaten my chips/wedges by the time it was cool enough to eat. But tasty nonetheless. My children enjoyed their food too so that's a good endorsement. All in all I don't think I would choose to go back again.

A lovely Sunday dinner, will definitely be back.

Phoned on a Wednesday night to ask what time food was serviced until. I was told if I ordered before 7.20pm it would be fine. So, I walked in and was immediately looked at with disgust? Shock? By the waitress. I told her I had rung up and was told if I ordered by 7.20pm it would be ok. It was 7.10pm. She informed me that yes it would be ok but that she "didn't know where we were going to sit" despite there being numerous free tables. My daughter and I looked at a menu before we were seated and before we were sat down were asked if we knew what we wanted! We felt under pressure so we chose. A rushed decision. I went to pay at the bar and this member of staff was lovely. The food was ok but as everything felt so rushed and we felt like a total inconvenience that may have affected how we viewed the food.I've only ever had excellent things to say about this place but this experience means I won't be rushing back! No excuse for rude staff.

The food was well cooked and hot . The conservatory made a very pleasant restaurant. The fish and chips was very nice but the fish was as described small !!. If you want a roast go to a carvery bigger portions and greater choice.

Visited with family. Wasn't sure what the food would be like as I'm not usually a fan of pub grub, but I thought that for the money, there was a lot of very tasty food. It was piping hot and the staff were very friendly. Fair bit of veggie food too. The salad that came with it was a decent size and crisp. Would definitely return!

Always a good welcome and good food. The real ale is kept well and the food is good value for money, with a pensioners menu as well. Welcomes family gatherings-we've had several here over the years.

The Marsh is a family friendly public house that serves delicious home made food at incredible competitive prices. The management and staff are always friendly and happy to do their best to ensure you have everything you need to be a satisfied customer. I have lots of family living out of Yorkshire but whenever any of them come to visit a trip to the Marsh is a must. They offer a wide range of menu and cater for all with a childrens menu and a seniors small meal choice, if you are in a big party you may have to wait a while to be served but this is because of the large range of food on offer and the fact that your meal is prepared to order. If you haven't tried this place yet please do you will not be disappointed. Booking is not essential but I do recommend you to do so if you don't want to wait.

Was seated half hr late. One meal on the menu wasn't typed correctly and came out with mushrooms in urgh so one family member had to wait another 15 min for her meal while everyone else was eating!! My garlic bread and salad fell off the plate while it was being served to me the lass just went oh sorry didn't offer any more.. The desserts took ages to come out. Was friendly staffed I just think they can cope with big numbers in one seating!!

We just keep on returning to The Marsh for family get togethers because the food is always spot on. I agree some of the starter portions are small but they're incredibly tasty, the mushrooms being my favourite. Despite a wide range of menu choices that would suit even a fussy eater, I often order a pie and I've never once been disappointed. The meat is much better than what you'd expect from typical pub food, the same applies to the pastry and gravy and I love the chips. The mains are so good and so filling it's rare we manage to try a dessert despite how nice they look. There's something on the menu for everyone, there are lots of drink choices at the bar, and if you're a wine drinker I'd recommend buying a bottle as opposed to a couple of glasses as it works out better. The staff are friendly from the greeting you receive upon arrival right up until the moment you leave. Some have commented that it's a little bit expensive but I truly believe it's good value and you get what you pay for. We recently visited as a party of 12 and despite an obviously large order we were served quickly and all of the meals were exactly as we asked for them. There's nowhere else as nice as The Marsh in Cleckheaton, and we'll definitely be back again in the new year.

We decided last minute to grab a bite to eat so popped in one evening , the staff were welcoming and despite having Christmas parties booked advised we could eat in the bar area which was fine. The food came relatively quickly and was piping hot, i ordered a chicken and mushroom pie which was quite large and filling as it came with chios and peas which left me with no room for a pudding :( not a bad thing i guess.Would i go back , yes

Our last visit was fantastic so we were looking forward to visiting again, we decided to go Sunday evening. This visit was absolutely terrible, ive never felt more uncomfortable in a restaurant before! We waited about 10 minutes to be given menus, I eventually had to ask and was given one between three of us. After our starters we waited 10 minutes for our plates to be cleared, when our food had arrived we hadn't been given anymore cutlery, the waitress hadn't noticed and walked off so I had to call her back again. The waitress who had been serving us with blonde hair and glasses was talking to some customers next to us about how she had been ready to go home since she had arrived at work, she was also sick of the sight of the place... Nice to hear. Both tables next to us had been service checked 3 times, we hadn't been service checked once. I could understand if it had been busy but that was not the case, obviously just couldn't be bothered since she's sick of the sight of the place. Food was really good, rest of the staff were fab. Just a shame theres one letting the side down.

(none alcaholic) At excactly 2pm we sat down for a dinner. The complete Christmas menu was excellent ant sevice could not be surpassed. The food was exceptionally well cooked and presented on the plate. Iwould highly recommend the Marsh and suggest you may have book in advance

We usually call in the Marsh when we visit Cleckheaton.I always enjoy a pint of the Old Mill brewery ale before having a meal in the conservatory restaurant. There is a good selection of dishes to choose from and all quite reasonably priced.I particularly enjoy the white fish. The staff are very pleasant and welcoming. A very convivial atmosphere.

We go at least once a week to The Marsh. There is plenty of choice and most of which is cooked fresh. We've enjoyed the stew, fish, roast of the day, chilli and others. Very reasonably priced.

We have eaten there a few times and find the Sunday Lunch as good as any in the cleckheaton area, normally we go to Toby or Silver Birch but went here one day and were totally won over, Meal is better and more of a personal atmosphere rather than the Conveyor belt of Toby and Silver birch where everyone is queing up with plates - like being back in school dinner hall.

We had a lovely evening here. Upon arrival the pub was clean and welcoming. Myself, my mother and my daughter came and the staff were so lovely and assertive. The food was really nice, we came in here as we were visiting the area and we would definitely come again.

Amazing Sunday breakfast. It looks closed when you drive in to the car park and if you try to get in through the restaurant door you will still think it’s closed. Be creative go to hotel reception, no obvious sign just look for the door. If you are persistent you will be delighted by the breakfast. We went for Fathers Day breakfast. Choice of raspberries, strawberries, melon, yogurt cereal etc. Followed by cooked breakfast made to order. Beautifully cooked ingredients which. I couldn’t resist toast and marmalade to finish. Choice of a pot of tea or coffee. My only criticism would be that the coffee could be a little stronger but that’s my preference. A lovely food experience sat at a white starched table cloth in a calm environment with lovely staff.

The food has changed from traditional food your gammon and chips, fish and chips etc to trying to compare with bao buns at the Riverhead, sorry no contest. The pub smells of wet dogs particularly around the fire and the sofas and been bitten there. Not in a rush to go back .

" Gastropub " it says on their website....NEVER ! We went for Sunday lunch after reading how popular this place was on our local FB page. Not the nicest of dining areas , certainly not like their photos. Tiled floor , mis-matched furniture, more like a transport cafe for lorry drivers. The whole place is very rundown and drab , peeling wallpaper, damp patches etc. No starters available . Meat was tender and plates piled high but frozen soggy sprouts, cabbage with loads of stalk and nothing seasoned at all . Very bland .Not a good experience. We like to support local businesses but sadly won't return here. The staff were lovely but it needs a lot of money and a total revamp in order to survive . I hope it does!

We were seated quickly in a pleasant room. After a shortish wait we ordered 2 sandwiches, a portion of chips and 2 coffees. After a long wait the coffee arrived but was only lukewarm, I asked for another one that was hotter but the waitress seemed confused, eventually we got replacements which were slightly warmer but I didn't want to risk complaining twice ... The food was delicious but the chips were plonked down with no offer of vinegar or sauces, not even salt. After rugby tackling a passing waitress we asked for vinegar which was deposited on the table but with no comment or question about whether there was anything else we wanted. At no point did anyone ever come back to the table to ask if everything was alright or did we want anything else, which considering it is table service and not cheap, I would expect. We are still here wondering how on earth we pay as we have been finished for at least 15 minutes and are still being studiously ignored. Maybe if we get up to leave they might notice us. To summarise food lovely if expensive service atrocious.
