Just got back from a family meal at Marr Lodge, 9 of us, all got our food at the same time , Food was lush again, Can't thank Julie, Michelle and all the staff enough. Already thinking about booking again 5*

Car park was stuffed Walked in place was packed out Was told no seating for nine even tho we booked weeks earlier was squashed into a booth making it awkward to eat then told only allowed 90 mins at table que was huge so waited 34 mins in que for food then was reminded we needed to leave as table was needed Toilets disgusting urinals running over and floor wet through Put soap on my hands and no water in both sinks Shame on you !! Seemed all they was bothered about was over booking the place to get as many covers as possible Shame as the food was actually really good Now spend some of those profits on maintenance and hygiene

This place could be a diamond if it was not for the lady with red hair. She can be quite rude and makes you feel like you are honoured to be in there. It is a shame because the staff are efficient and hard working. We used to go in quite regular but because of her we shall stay away.

Called in for a quiet drink 30 reserved tables we were the only couple in there apart from a family with 2 screaming kids landlady insisted we sit with them in a tiny annex I pointed out that we didn't want to sit with noisy babies / kids unfortunately we already had drinks her attitude was have it don't have it 1 to avoid 🤔

Had steak and chips well say chips there was scraps from. Bottom off the bag wouldn't go there again and the staff was long face as if there didn't won't to be there it was are first time there never again and it looked like the pub needed a good clean I wood not rate this pub a 1

You know when the cook is foul mouthed and bad tempered. One has got to expect negative feed back. Not a good example to set the other staff.

We love this pub.. it serves excellent food and great value for money. Had many delicious meals in here throughout this year (2023). Their Fish & Chips are outstanding.. portion size is amazing. I'd definitely 100% recommend eating here. Its also a lovely pub decor wise with a nice atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. Decent sized car park and disabled parking.. a bonus for me personally.

7 of us had the Festive Christmas Menu and all courses were well presented and tasty. The main course was served with plenty of fresh vegetables and told to ask for extra if needed. There was a choice of Turkey, Beef or Cod Loin and all three were delicious. All the staff were very pleasant and friendly. Overall an excellent meal enjoyed by all.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here today book as it’s busy shown to our table got some drinks and waited for the queue to go down the place itself is really clean,nice decor and lovely and warm especially in November the carvery has three meats and a pie loads of fresh vegetables delicious gravy we have found are go to Sunday lunch pub wouldn’t mind going in the week too carvery every day plus a lovely bar area

This restaurant did not open till after 12 o'clock. There were lots of people waiting outside..When we eventually got in we were greeted by a red haired woman who was very rude.We had booked a table for 4 the day before but the dreadful woman ranted and raved that we hadn't and if we hadn't been so hungry we would have walked out.We had to wait a long time for food and there was a mix up in the ordering.The red haired woman came to just our table to point out that there were beer mats and to use them.The beer mats were hidden away we hadn't seen them.She didn't go to any other table to tell them off.The meal was OK nothing brilliant but adequate. Half way through the meal she appeared to have a personality change and came to see if the meal was OK.The young waitresses were very nice.I thought that possibly the woman was having a bad day but after reading the reviews it seems she is often rude.Obviously we will not be going again.

Owner rude chief just as bad said he didn't appreciate us helping yourself to HIS FOOD it was a carvery by the way won't be going back

Had the worst lasagne ever there was no layering to it all pasta and cheese no meat and very dry it looked like half of it was missing as only filled half the small bowl .I left over half of it .. we did tell the waitress and she said she would tell the chef .. she didn’t come back so my friend shouted her to ask what the chef said .. she said they would contact the suppliers and tell them !!! And walked away .. on a high note my friends meal was ok hence the 3 stars .For me customer service is non existent and they don’t care .. I’ve been here many times and never ever had to complain but this time I’ve had too and nothing was done 😡

Went with my partner for a drive to this lovely place for sunday lunch, the choice of vegetables was fantastic and they do mushy peas and also pickles with onions cucumber bloody lovely we are definitely coming back and all the staff are lovely

After reading some of the recent negative reviews ahead of our first visit to Marr Lodge, I must admit we were rather apprehensive. However, I can honestly say our apprehensions were soon allayed. We were greeted on arrival by pleasant, friendly staff. Service was great and all four meals arrived together. Meals were varied including one gluten free option. All were thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely return.

I had the stacker burger and it was beautiful, well cooked and the portion size was plentiful, would definitely come back

Used to be a decent pub - now this place has gone severely downhill. The food is awful and managers don’t seem to care. I don’t know how this place is still running.

Disgusting We arrived around 5.45pm With only a few people in the place. The girl who greeted us told us the food was ending soon and then went on to tell to hurry up and order Nearly £34 for fish pie a pint of lager,half a coke and burger abd chips l. The fish pie my wife was given was absolutely tiny and hardly any fish in it with a bit of mash and no sauce and not even microwaved long enough. Side veg was a spoon of tinned garden peas and two sprigs of broccoli. My burger was burnt on the outside and raw inside with a piece of frozen breaded chicken. After we sat down after being told to hurry up several other people came in and placed orders. We left our food and walked out No way will be visiting again Standards can't drop any lower Toilets dirty with foul graffiti etched on the walls so don't take kids in the toilet. Run to the ground it's such a shame this was a good place to eat years ago.

Red haired Rottweiler greeted us ? Hadn’t booked table but it wasn’t busy so allowed us in . Restaurant almost empty so couldn’t see a problem. Food was nearly cold and tasteless , will definitely avoid or recommend ! If you’re in the hospitality business you must be polite and courteous 😡

Absolutely appalling food, appalling staff and appalling service. DO NOT waste your time going...Food was dry, burnt and inedible, staff ignorant or just stupid. Service slower than a drunk slug. Brewery need to get rid of whoever is responsible for running the place.

Today’s meal was appalling. Two of our party ordered the beer battered fish goujons on a warm baguette. What arrived was a supermarket (cheap) fish slapped in a bread cake. Another of our party ordered a prawn in Marie Rose sauce in a whole meal bloomer with a side of fries. What she got was some chewy, quickly thawed out, prawns in something that wasn’t Marie Rose sauce on whole meal sliced bread - her chips were nowhere to be seen! We complained, and the waitress agreed that the fish wasn’t a goujon and that the prawn sandwich wasn’t what was ordered. We asked if the chef, from our previous visit three weeks ago, had left and she said he hadn’t but they do rotate! She went on to say that she would relay our feedback to the chef. Whether she did, or not, we have no idea because she never returned to our table. Today, the was about edible, but certainly not enjoyable, the service was diabolical - with three waitresses who were greeting customers, serving at the bar, taking food orders, delivering food to customers and clearing tables. Lord knows how few staff were in the kitchen, but I imagine not many by the quality of four coming out of it. Marr Lodge managers, please take note. Our next gathering will be at a different venue! PS: I’ve just had a message from the person who had the prawn sandwich, she had thrown up several times since arriving home, and us currently in bed with what 111 are saying could be found poisoning!

Met friends here and on a quiet Friday afternoon. We sat outside in the beer garden- under a parasol - the seating arrangement was unusual in that there were only 3 seats - albeit they are double- there is room for another so we were sat in a triangle.We had the 2 for £12 ordered cottage pie only to be informed shortly afterwards there was none left- so changed this for gammon, also taken was a good lasagne with bread and salad- seemed good value and quite tasty!Our friends had a surf n turf and salmon- both stating that their meals were good and they would have it again- cant ask for a better recommendation than thatDrinks were on the top end price wise- my only gripe.Would visit again especially for the afternoon 2 for £12.

The Meal I ordered Surf n Turf with Chicken came with no scampi and even though I told the waitress when she brought the meal over I never received any Scampi. So I paid for 1 meal and ended up getting a different meal that was around £1 cheaper and didn’t get offered the money difference back.The Meal my partner orderegd was a mixed grill, even though we both ordered our steaks medium mine came how I ordered it but hers came back cremated even though they were both ordered at the same time. The sausages looked like lumps of coal, I thought it looked like they had just reheated some old sausages because the skin was burnt and wrinkly. Her Gammon, pork steak and chicken were dry and tough as old boots.Overall a very bad meal and very disappointing experience. I had heard such good reviews about this place and I am struggling to think how on earth it gets good reviews if tonight’s experience was anything to go by. I will not be recommending this place to anybody and sure as hell won’t be returning myself.

We called in here on route to see a show at Dearne Playhouse, 2 adults & 2 children, it was only teatime and the place wasn't busy, on walking in we were asked by a very abrupt lady if we had booked a table to which we answered no,we ordered food which came very overcooked, no one came & asked if everything was OK, the children ordered a pudding which we had to remind them of the order, to which we were told "well we are busy" don't think we will go again

Today’s carvery, well what can I say..... just average. Food all over the serving area what people had dropped off their plates. Sides swimming in gravy. All frozen veg, deep fried potatoes and parsnips. Chef cutting the meat had no room and had to put joints on the floor. The staff was commanded by the woman behind the so call welcome area. She barked orders to then. But then again waiting for plates to be taken away took ages whilst they chatted at the bar and looking at their phones.

Had a birthday lunch with family today (Saturday)Always had Sunday carvery before and been well satisfied but today it was a disaster .2 had steak pie, 1 had braised steak 3 kids had carvery. All was good until we put gravy on from gravy boats, it was burnt even on carvery counter it was burnt. We complained about it and they did offer to change but said we would eat what we could so they said they would sort out with desserts. Then my daughter who is Gluten free had ordered the steak and gf chips.. she took one bite and the steak was rancid, you could smell it was off . All they said was it was still in date. Because it was my birthday and we had very young children with us we didn’t make too much fuss and just accepted the free desserts . We have been in catering and would have automatically deducted the offending meals from the bill. We had 1 hunters chicken and 1 scampi which were fine. 1 child spag Bol ok and 1 jacket potato which was cool and quite hard but honestly couldn’t be bothered to complain further. The staff didn’t really seem bothered and in fact turned away when we were leaving which I found quite rude. Had the lady with the red hair been there who is usually there on Sundays I think things would have been handled differently.

Visited Saturday night and it was very busy. Waited awhile for food but wasn’t disappointed. Staff were excellent, kept us informed about the length of wait, we weren’t concerned. The food was well presented and tasty.

We went for the carvery but on arrival there was no indication what we had to do so we went and queued and then when we reached the chef we were informed we needed to pay at the bar and present vouchers for our meal. Staff seemed uninterested and the carvery was average however the roasters and parsnips were delicious.

Ordered pie of the day( did think it was steak pie), didn’t resemble a pie. Asked waitress what pie it was as no top etc and she shrugged. When plates cleared was told should have said something when it was served, said I did to be told would be brought up at staff meeting.

Visited on Monday 10th February and was really impressed with the food. We had the chicken tikka and mixed grill. The mixed grill was that big we ended up taking the leftovers home. Produce is locally sourced from the Marr Grange farm shop, it was fantastic quality. The carvery looked great and was really quite busy for a Monday so we'll definitely try that next time. Julie and the team are doing a fantastic job and really made my friends day!

Visited for my 40th birthday,had to book through Facebook messenger as no one answered the phone after several attempts. Arrived to be rudely told that we only had the table for 1.5 hours, no one informed me of that when we booked as I wouldn’t have bothered if I had known.unfortunately my baby niece had a poorly stomach so my sister in law was a while changing her which made us slightly late eating, we had just ordered dessert when the rude red haired lady came and told us she needed our table 15 minutes before our allotted time was up, told her we had ordered dessert and she stropped off saying we had to leave as she had 500 people to get through that day. Wouldn’t mind but there were 3 other large empty tables around us and no one ever turned up for them. Dessert then took over 25 minutes to arrive, where the red headed lady charged back up to the table and said you can stay I’ve sat them at another table. So thank you for ruining my birthday meal, you made us all on edge the whole time we were there,wouldn’t mind but the food was average as best and the beer was off, my husband returned his Black Sheep twice and the one he was offered in place was watered down,won’t be returning here.

I visited Marr Lodge on Saturday 18/01/2020 with my two daughters, and 13 year old granddaughter. I have had a gastric band, so settled for the soup of the day, which was chicken soup. To my dismay, this was not homemade soup, it was tinned soup. My two daughters, and granddaughter had the carvery. Everything was dry, and overcooked,and the majority of the meal was cold, the Yorkshire puddings just crumbled away, when they cut into them, they had obviously been left out, under the heating appliances, to keep warm, for a long time. We did not finish our meal, we just simply left, and will not return, to this establishment.

The food was absolutely shocking the steak was a poor poor cut of meat it tasted weird the scampi was vile the peppercorn sauce was tasteless the peas was over done en tased crap onion rings was hard the only thing that was half decent was the ribs very poor food would not eat there again for free. Staff was pleasant unfortunately the food let them down. Me en my parter live 130 mile away from each en wanted a nice meal together sadly it was dreadful.

Our family get together meals tend to be here due to the excellent location. It is only 2 minutes from the A1.

We went to this place last Christmas and a time or two in between. It’s location makes it ideal for us all meeting as we are spread out.

This is the first time I have visited Marr lodge, went for Sunday lunch with my son & sister, booked a table for 1.30pm informed by the lady with the pink hair that we could only have our table for one hour & 30 mins which was fine as they were busy!
