The Market Tavern in Preston

Newly discovered LGB friendly bar in town. friendly helpful staff, decent drinks, traditional atmosphere and ambience. I'd recommend.

I believe that next door to this tavern was once the Theatre Royal where the famous Bolton born Moses Holden Astronomer gave his first lecture in 1815. Signor Paganini violinist and composer from Italy played the same theatre in 1833. I have added an old photo, this looks like the same pub to me. Is it..? Great place for karaoke and a drink, it's very LGBTQ friendly and everyone in there pretty much knows eachother, you become almost family. Food whenever I have had it has been simple stuff you'd likely cook at home but I don't really come here for the food. Karaoke Wednesdays are wild.

Was only Wednesday so quiet but really liked it, it's a great traditional old pub with great selection of beers and lagers nice staff

Great place for a drink very friendly

First time visiting this pub I ordered a cider in a bottle and got give a dirty glass with it. The bottle had a smell of something horrible on the outside of the bottle.

Served quickly as not many in. Place smelt badly of sewage. Not a good experience

Proper old pub opposite the market. Maybe could do with a bit of a tidy up with the seats but very warm welcome and comfortable to spend time in.

Saturday night. Drinks only DJ and Karaoke. Good atmosphere. Prices good.

Didn't eat just drank in here but it looked good and clean good little pub

Went around 7:30 pm on a Wednesday night and found it quiet but it did pick up after 8pm as the karaoke started up but decided to move on by then.. In search of better priced drinks..

It's a decent little pub with boardgames, had karaoke when I was there.

After 2 months of weekly LGBTQ+ nights, I can say without a doubt this is my favourite local experience in my 3 years in Preston. We always get our favourite booth, drink to our heart's content and sing along to the expressive karaoke. Can't reccomend enough!

Quiz night at the market tavern is a fun and welcoming experience definitely going to go again.

Knowledgeable and friendly landlord, good choice of beer and a beautiful pub with lovely architecture and the odd quirky bits. Definitely recommend.

Cute little place and I enjoy Wednesday's when they do karaoke night and you can sing anything you want on karaoke I always enjoy it

Not been in for quite a while but a real pub with real ale & a glass panel in the floor. Close to market & shops. 5 min from bus station.

Honestly I've enjoyed coming to this little gem for a while now, I've seen it evolve and blossom over the past 4 years or so, it's become a safe haven on Wednesdays for the LGBT community and beyond with beautiful and friendly staff. Although some bad apples may come in to try and spoil the bunch the staff stand strong and try their best to make this a safe place for all. I love them for this. The food is comforting, its nothing extraordinaryly complex, its food you'd make yourself or ask your mum back in the day to make because honestly you felt like hell and just needed a food hug, toasties were certainly my comfort, now all we need is fish finger sandwiches and i might move in! Keep up the spectacular work.

Lovely little pub, very friendly bar staff and a really decent pint of ale

A good traditional town centre pub retaining some heritage features such as the very pleasant seating booths and decorative screens. There is an interesting 'window' in the floor revealing the cellar. An OK ale range for my visit and three ales and a cider were on the six available hand pumps. Alongside the dreaded John Smith’s smooth were Old Mill Brewery Styrian Wolf bitter, and Black Sheep’s Monty Pythons Holy Grail Ale plus a cider and these were in decent nick. A decent enough traditional pub for a pint in central Preston, especially if you can get one of the two private booths on the right hand side as we did.

A terrific historic pub in the heart of Preston, tucked away to the side of the new Indoor Market. Confusingly, though now called The Market Tap it still has its old Market Tavern sign in place (itself a words only replacement for a previous more colourful image of the market in full operation). The pub is ornate, cosy, with lots of unimposing pop music playing in the background. There are great guest ales and discounts for CAMRA real ale group members. Staff are friendly and polite. A great pub to stop off at for a break when shopping or doing bisuness in Preston.

Went to the Market Tavern ( new name) on a real ale trip to Preston. Called in after a previous disappointing pub. This pub didn't disappoint , in fact was a real Jewel . Six real ales, and a barman who was very knowledgable and very friendly. He promoted his own beers, but also helped us in our trip with other real ale recommendations. Would definitely go back.

In the corner of every City is always a small jewel. And this is Preston’s for the Real Ale Enthusiasts. I don’t know enough to pontificate about pale/amber ales etc, but the taste and ambiance was spot on. Well Done and Thank You for your gracious hospitality

Visited yesterday, a lovely hidden gem, a cosy (if a little chilly) pub. Loved the olde worlde traditional decor. Good menu - was happy to find ‘something different’ as a vegetarian! Friendly locals & lovely staff who were prepared to go the extra mile.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the pub. There were a few disappointments, we waited for 45 minutes for our meal and we were the second order of the day and when it arrived we weren't given any cutlery to eat it with. However the barmaid was so pleasant and understanding she made the whole experience good. The food was absolutely delicious and exceptionally priced. It was lively and a content place to eat, I would recommend it especially the cheese and onion pie. The servings were plentiful.

Long time since I'd been in here so was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. Friendly staff and a good choice of beers. Will not leave it as long until next time

Only place in Preston with Lilleys cider available as standard

I went to the Market Tavern in Preston and I enjoyed my visit. It has been taken over by the owners of the Wing's and Beer Co pub on Cannon Street in Preston. They have "done it up" so too speak. It is nice inside. It has television screens to watch. The toilets are nice.The toilets are tiled. I had a pint of Courage Bitter in the Market Tavern in Preston and it was very nice. I would recommend a visit to the Market Tavern in Preston.

Great place although not very big.

Under new management now who own beer and wings in preston. It is now called the market taps. But the locals still call it the the market tavern. It's a nice small pub with a few guest ales on.
