Delicious, freshly cooked food. A good range of vegan and fish options, with delicious dessert. While my request for a macchiato was met with surprise, it was as excellently executed as the rest of the meal.

I went to Waddesdon Manor with my family for afternoon tea. There were five of us - one vegetarian, one pescatarian and three 'normal' people. What a joy the whole experience was. Because of the way tea is served, it makes our differences easy to cater for and easy for us to eat. Savouries are served individually on large plates - not just sandwiches - a tartlet, filled roll, savoury choux, etc. And then the sweet course which was served on small individual cake stands. Lovely to look at and delicious to taste - special mention of the gorgeous lemon macaron; adored by my very fussy, vegetarian daug. hter. Tea was plentiful and we could have tried as many types as we wanted - we didn't as whatever we each chose, we all enjoyed (especially one of my grandsons who had hot chocolate!) The wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable and didn't hurry us. A perfect meal for us with time to chat and really enjoy the food.

We booked a table for 1:30, planning to go to the wine tasting at 3. You’d think 1 1/2 for lunch would be plenty of time, but no. Ok so there was a big party in, but if they’d booked then you get the staff in to cover. We had a ‘light lunch’ between us as a starter after the recommendation from the waiter that it was quite large and it would be too much with a main. It wasn’t, especially as it was the best part of an hour after this before our mains arrived. Other people who came later were served before us. We went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Although they gave us 20% off the bill for the wait, the long wait had rather taken the shine off the experience. Unlikely to go back

My friend and I had booked for an afternoon tea at the Manor Restaurant on a hot sunny Saturday. The savouries and pastries served were absolutely delicious and plentiful. However, I must flag up the service which was excellent. The staff were super friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I had pre-booked the Afternoon Tea as a treat. It is served in the restaurant / cafe, which looked nothing like the white tablecloth-decked room on the website photographs. Just bare, black cafe- style tables. Although the food itself was pretty good, the afternoon tea certainly didn’t look or feel ‘ luxurious’ or ‘sumptuous’ as per its description.

I will not eat here again, had a 14.30 booking for lunch, was seated in a very noisy room ,had a 30 minute wait for the ordered wine to arrive and a hour wait for lunch, supposidly cooked by talented chefs, yet i can and do cook better, the roast potatoes were possibly the worst i have ever had,,no choice of how you want the beef to be cooked, found this strange as had to wait an hour for it,,the apple desert was really bitter and sour, obviously not tasted at any stage of preparing, and we had a 40 minute wait for it.very overpriced for the quality and service offered

It was late afternoon and quiet in the restaurant, so we were quickly served by a friendly waiter. The choice was limited to afternoon tea or a fancy cheese on toast, and we chose the latter. It was absolutely fine with a cup of tea. The price for either choice on the menu was £7.99, which is a little on the high side but not outrageous. Had there been a little more to choose from on the menu, I would have given five stars in stead of four.

Based on our experience we would certainly recommend and would like to return.

Mothers Day afternoon tea. Both of us had the gluten free menu and were pleasantly surprised to see how similar it was to the ‘normal’ menu. Great variety of options and excellent quality for a reasonable price. The service was efficient and friendly on what was a very busy day. Enthusiastic front of house let down by slow kitchen! Very pleasant young team of waiters and waitresses but still had to wait a very long time for a portion of risotto. Had to wait even longer for two portions of Bakewell tart - even though we’d asked for everything to come at once. Apologies are all very well but it doesn’t hide the flaws in the system. I don’t think we were the only ones who were surprised by the wait!

A 'set' menu printed on an A4 size sheet of paper opposite another A4 sheet filled with more varieties of tea than I knew existed. We made our choice, but at no point was milk or lemon offered, however milk was provided when asked for. The food was very nice, but not a lot of it, in particular the savory plate. The staff were quite helpful. Would we go again for tea, no. I would like to say that the staff on the bus to the house were wonderful, I am disabled and they were very very helpful and kind, so thank you.

We booked the Afternoon Tea well in advance as we were going on August Bank Holiday so it might be crowded. We stipulated that one of us did not eat meat. No problem they said as they have veggie options. We went round the house and grounds first and found our energy flagging by 2 pm as it was 30 degrees celcius in the sun and stuffy inside the house. Our tea was booked for 2.30 so we asked if we could come in early. Again no problem. We repeated that one of the teas should be vegetarian (non meat) and that we had ordered this when booking. We sat back enjoying our glass of prosecco in the cool simply furnished surrpundings, and then our white tea which came piping hot in black cast iron chinese pots. The waiter then brought the plate stand with the savouries and cakes etc. It was their standard selection including chicken and ham etc. Vegetarian instructions ignored!!Too tired to make a fuss, we swapped between us to make it right. At first site it looked rather small but in the end we had to have some boxed to take away. Each item a flavour bomb. Just as it should be. The scone was fresh and moist and the cream and jam cool and delicious. Really good value at only £27 per person. A good selection of teas (no tea bags!) and a refill at no extra charge. Crisp white tablecloths. With the before mentioned exception it was a perfect roundoff to an enjoyable and essentially english afternoon.

When we visited the manor we came here for lunch not quite knowing what to expect. We were able to get a table quite quick and were seated within 2-3 minutes, we were given the menu and given a few minutes to browse, a couple of things to to note;1. The menu is very small and is not laid out very well as most of the item don't have prices by them so you could be paying anything from £3.50 to £25.00 per meal. 2. The portion sizes are mostly small except the fish & chips which is massive- if you are average eaters you might want to get 1 and share or order an extra portion of chips. There was 3 of us, we ordered two fish & chips ( not knowing the size) at £16.90 each and a seasonal soup ( obviously different every day) £7 which came with a basket of bread. However the bread comes out first and then about 15-20 minutes later they bring the soup out. We ordered 3 breakfast tea at £3.50 each which is a little bit steep, to say the least. Our total bill came to £56.43 as was not impressed by the service charge that we had to pay but didn't get told about, a very expensive lunch!Had to pay £5.13 in service charge so please be warned even if ordering a drink you will be charged the service charge too.Would be nice for them to tell you about it so you can make a decision whether to stay or at least be aware of it. Overall food was good, however a bit overpriced for what you receive.

We happened upon the Manor restaurant as we were preparing to go into the House. We made an afternoon tea reservation for 2:30pm.After a very pleasant visit to the splendid house we arrived promptly for our afternoon tea. After a little confusion we were seated at the back of the restaurant near the entrance to the gift shop (there was a lot of traffic , not very relaxing). The tables were not arranged in any special way just a grey table with tea cups, cutlery and napkins, reminiscent of an airport cafe, but at least it was clean (sort of). Not very impressive since they were charging £22.50 per person. We waited for over 20 minutes while the serving staff ignored us and served customers who arrived after us. We were finally served by a member of the serving staff who gave us the menu and asked what tea we wanted with our afternoon tea (he didn't ask weather we wanted sparkling wine with our afternoon tea but he did ask if had any diet requirements) . After a 15 minutes our tea arrived in small tea pots and a further 15 mins passed before the sandwich course of our afternoon tea arrived. The food was very nice and not your ordinary afternoon tea sandwiches nicely presented, but the portions were tiny. The cakes arrived about 10 minutes after the sandwiches, neatly presented on a cake stand. Nice cakes but very small portion sizes and only one scone! The jam and clotted cream was barely a teaspoon full! The tea was nice (I ordered the Jasmine and my husband ordered English Breakfast) but again it was served in very small pots and there was no offer of hot water to top up the pot and no one to ask for hot water! In addition the tea was in tea bags NOT loose leaf! I would have expected loose leaf tea for the price. All in all I wouldn't recommend the overpriced afternoon tea here. The level of service and the quality of the tea/ food does not warrant the price tag, especially as many smarter hotels nearby offer better afternoon tea experiences for a similar price. We had to wait another 20 minutes for the bill (nothing was cleared away in the meantime) and when it did arrive there was a 10% service charge added to the bill which we declined to pay (something we never do) and (as far as I remember) the service charge is not mentioned on any of the menus so beware!

We booked a set menu lunch for 7 persons in advance via official site and payed at the check-out. We had a lovely lunch in this restaurant 4 years ago when the main venue still had white table cloths and a hint of decoration with all those old bottles from the family cellar. Now the so-called restaurant turned into a typical National Trust canteen with the typical smell and service. We felt really ashamed in front of our friends whom we wanted to show a little bit of traditional Britain. The wait time was endless, the service was performed by inexperienced trainees and at the end we got one more bill on top of the one we had payed online. So another wait to clarify the matter. Don’t waste your time, just have a quick bite at the Stables, I wish we did so...

Treated my wife for our anniversary date and was told I shouldn’t miss out on Waddesdon Manor. When we arrived there was ample parking and the grounds looked stunning. Didn’t have to wait for a table even though the restaurant was quite full. Was told about the set menu but we decided to go for the normal lunch menu. I chose the Duck salad which was cooked to perfection and the wife had the slow cooked lamb. As there shoulder was quite big, she couldn’t finish it, so I obliged and had the rest, it was so succulent. The waitress was very helpful and we could tell her attention was always on the guests, My wife and I are not big drinkers, however I decided to have a small glass of wine which the waitress recommended, I will be looking out for the Touraine Sauvignon in the shops!!The restaurant was spacious, clean and had a welcoming atmosphere. I can not recommend this enough. Will be looking to visit again in the near future...hopefully the wine will still be on the menu.

Visited with my mum and sister as a treat for Mum's birthday in the week that it reopened. The restaurant is in a beautiful panelled dining room and is nicely laid out. the menu is a bit different to many others - a selection of savouries to start which in includes some hot tartlets, a hot sandwich, some small canape type savouries and an egg roll. All very tasty and not as filling as a lot of sandwiches. These are brought to the table on a plate per person. My Mum doesn't eat egg but they were more than happy to swap that out for something else. This was followed by a cake stand per person which had an apple crumble pannacotta, a mango and passion fruit macaron, cherry opera cake, tea and honey cake, lime and coconut meringue tart and a scone with jam and clotted cream - they were all lovely but the tart was particularly good with a lovely sharp taste. I did think that the jam was rather tasteless with the scone though.

We were looking forward to lunch as the culmination of a visit with a guest to the house. It was not a bad meal but it did not rise to the standards expected of a restaurant at a venue like this. The set menu had no choice - one starter, one main, one dessert; this struck as as very odd. We opted to pay more to have a choice from the à la carte menu. All the portion sizes were small, even the upgraded ones, and no match for a man's appetite. The risotto was very good but the chicken served with it was rubbery, grossly overcooked; I mentioned this to the waitress who was polite and agreed to tell the chef. What happened? Nothing. One might have expected a visit to the table from the manager. Service from the male waiter was very nice but the waitresses were rather casual, we thought. This restaurant is far too expensive for what it offers. We certainly shall not go back.

Visited for afternoon tea with my mother and sister - pre-booked the visit online. Very warm welcome and friendly staff throughout meal. Our waitress talked us through the menu and explained that you could try as many different pots of tea as you liked or have coffee or a soft drink. My sister and I both chose the Girlie Grey - an Earl Grey with rosebuds and orange peel which we enjoyed so much, we asked for the supplier and ordered some when we got home! You start with a plate of savouries each - two small cucumber sandwiches, a little egg mayonnaise roll, a bit-sized smoked salmon wrap, a square of pork terrine on a crisp bread and two tarts - one pea and pecorino and the other leek and smoked haddock with pastry that was so thin and crisp. It was sufficient for us but if you prefer the savoury side to an afternoon tea, you may feel disappointed. The plate is cleared and each person is given a cake stand. This has a very moist and light scone with jam and clotted cream, a raspberry and vanilla pannacotta, an individual carrot and pecan cake, a lemon macaron, passion fruit meringue tart and a gateau opera (very chocolatey slice). All were delicious. We were asked several times if we wanted more drinks but staff weren’t intrusive. Nice atmosphere and surroundings. Costs £20.50 each and entry is free if you are a National Trust member otherwise you have to pay the grounds admission cost on top.

The Stables is a child-friendly restaurant in a large courtyard. Within the courtyard the ground was either covered in cobbles or gravel. From the road above there were warnings on the pathways that when wet they may be slippery. This makes entrance for people on mobility scooters and any other mobility assistance a little tricky. Once down at the lower levei it was clear that the best entrance for wheelchairs etc. would be to go along the road and turn in at the bottom. The cobbles and gravel made it difficult to get to the restaurant but not impossible. The food was good and the service excellent in the Stables. However it was very cramped with too many tables that meant people with wheelchairs found it virtually impossible to go into the restaurant. This is being written primarily from a disabled person's point of view, for able-bodied people it is easy to get to and have a meal either in the restaurant or at some tables outside. The food is good.

The a la carte menu is interesting, there is a set menu for lunch and a cream tea option. Our food was excellent - a tasty tuna nicoise with nicely runny hard boiled egg, and a ham terrine set in a light jelly flavoured with tarragon, capers and gherkins, sensational, accompanied by two pulled ham bonbons, toasted sour dough and home made piccalilli. The expresso was good and a half litre fizzy water only £3.50. I only gave it four stars as the restaurant in the old kitchen is bit dark and tables are a little close together. We had a birthday lunch here at the end of September. My husband had booked this in advance, and was given a limited choice from the website. For lunch there seemed to only be a set menu that was payable in advance @ £51 for two. This he paid. When we arrived, we paid another £25 for drinks -a glass each of white and sweet wine, with a bottle of water. A discretionary 10% service charge is added. We thought the food good, but the restaurant, (which we had been in many times, albeit a few years ago) was too closely packed with tables and the staff could hardly get round them. We felt that the National Trust had gone for maximum profit over a pleasurable experience for its diners. Shame.

Waiting staff were cool, attentive and very friendly. Speed of service was not important to us as we had years and years to catch up on. The menu was varied and imaginative; a notch above what we expected of NT restaurants and cafés. Prices weren't excessive as quality was excellent. Our ancestors, a husband and wife had worked as Coachman and Maid at Waddesdon and we were meeting newly discovered cousins so the whole experience was very important to be 'just so' and it was! The wait staff appeared totally uncoordinated; we had four different members of staff ask us for our drinks order but we had to ask for menus and then for cutlery to be laid on the table. The food took over 30mins to arrive and when it did the portion sizes were very disappointing - the risotto cost £18.50 for literally a few mouthfuls. After we complained about the service and the small portion sizing we were offered free coffees and the risotto was taken off the bill, which was a reasonableness jesture, but we would have preferred a smoother and more filling dining experience overall.

We visited on Sunday afternoon, this was a Christmas present from the family for an afternoon tea in the Manor Restaurant. The food was very different from our experience at other venues, but nevertheless made a nice change. The savoury part came out on two individual oblong plates, served warm. This comprised of various tartlets, a small roll and a croissant filled with chicken etc. This was followed by a good choice of desserts, crumble, scones gateaux etc.

Starving and in need of a hot meal on a cold day we wandered into the restaurant to find it was table service only. The waiting staff were very polite and helpful but the menu was a little more "upscale" than we had anticipated. My companion chose haddock and chips @ £16.95 and received a generous plateful, being on a healthy diet I chose sea bass for the same price. Was rather surprised to find my large plate contained two minuscule fillets of sea bass laid on a few meagre vegetables, the whole would fit comfortably into a tea cup. If nouvelle cuisine is what you like then I heartily recommend The Manor Restaurant.

We have neever waited so long for our order to be completed. We went on Easter Monday, we had reserved a time but arrived early and asked if we could have a coffee first then our meal. No problem said the very nice young lady who served us. After about 20 minutes and asking if the coffee was coming another waitress bought my husbands starter still no coffee, we said no can we have the coffee, 30 minutes later the coffee arrived and very nice it was. we finally had our meal in all it took about one hour to start delivering all the food we went in a 12.30 and finally came out at about 3pm. They give us the coffee on the house and the food was ok when it came. We had a similar experience the last we went there but thought that was just a one off never imagening it would happen again.

We spent an excellent afternoon at the Waddesdon Christmas experience, including the Festive Afternoon Tea. It was very busy, but the service was good and the food was delicious and plenty of it. Topped with a glass of Prosecco and unlimited tea, the perfect afternoon tea.

We pre-booked our afternoon tea after missing out last year and it was worth waiting for. Despite reading the recent reviews which were not too inspiring we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Manor Restaurant. There was a bit of a wait between the tea being served and the savoury courses but everything was very tasty and the service was good. The afternoon tea comprises of several savoury items followed by several sweet items, and possibly we would have preferred to have more savoury items and less sweet items but that would be our personal preference. You can have more tea if you desire but it was a nice experience, not so glamorous as the Ritz perhaps but still very nice.

We visit Waddesdon all the time and always looked at The Manor restaurant as somewhere we would like to go as a treat. We finally booked their Spooky AfternoonTea for Halloween for our 4 year old daughter. As soon as we walked in we realised it wasn't what we'd imagined- no nice white table cloths and quality waiting staff- just a cafe in a historic room. Despite having pre booked and pre ordered we waited 35 minutes for food. Our tea was served promptly but my husbands tea was a teabag not loose tea and the food was so late my tea was over stewed and cold and was sent back. The actual food was lovely but the staff were not well trained or organised in any way. We waited a while for the cakes after the sandwiches and had to walk up to the staff to get the bill in the end. We were very pleasant but didn't even get a goodbye as we walked out, directly past the staff. Given the immaculate Afternoon Tea I had at the Soho Hotel in London the other week for £7 more I would skip The Manor. Maybe just eat in the stables cafe.

I was very disappointed with the pork main meal I had in the restaurant yesterday. We waited a long time for it after ordering, but my meal in particular was very small and not particularly hot! The pork was supposed to be sitting on a bed of rossti which did not resemble a rossti I had had before and was basically so thin I could hardly cut through it, In fact I thought that was the crackling of the pork. I queried that the rossti had been left off of my plate but I was told that it was underneath the pork at the bottom and the crackling was on the top of the pork (which was just like one potato crisp!), If you had blinked you may have missed it with the slices of apple on the top. I complained twice but was offered no recompense, just that they would inform the chef. One of my friends had the vegetarian option and that looked really nice (with mash potato and green beans), as was the haddock/chips. Obviously I had made the wrong choice.

After touring the house and gardens we were hungry, so opted to eat at the restaurant. Indoors was fully reserved, but there were outdoor tables available. Yes, it was a bit chilly, but we had jackets. The service was very good, and the food exceeded expectations-- we ordered the slow cooked beef, and the roast duck. We were satisfied! The coffee is also very good.

We were having our lunch in the manor restaurant right after our tour in the manor house. We were seated at the restaurant and was immediately given the menu. However, right afterwards it took as ages to get hold of any of the waiting staff to have our orders taken. We asked to be transferred to the tables outside and they kindly assisted us, which were nice of them. Some of my friends ordered the express meal, which we were told would be served within 15 to 20 minutes, but it took them more than that. The food was great though, presentation wise and taste wise. I do hope that the staff would be more attentive to us, like when I was about to ask for my 2nd course and it took me 3 times to get their attention because despite the times that I've met their eyes they still choose to ignore me. I could probably understand if the restaurant is packed, which it is not.

We booked afternoon tea as a special treat for our Mum - posh nosh in a beautiful venue! The food was indeed great - a savoury course of pea/mint and duck tart, stilton & pear rarebit and others was really fab & tasty followed by a great selection of small cakes including undoubtedly the best lemon meringue I've ever tasted. All accompanied by a fine selection of different teas - we tried 3 types each. The only problem was the extremely slow service - having been shown to our seats we were completely ignored for 20 minutes until they took our first tea order and the food itself didn't arrive for 45 minutes - this was after the time we had booked and prepaid for! We were pretty hungry by the time it arrived! There was also no information given when we sat down, just a mouth-watering menu to tempt us with what we couldn't have! The staff who did serve us were nice enough but it did tarnish the exoerience a bit being stuck in a corner of a half busy restaurant and ignored!

After learning that Fish and Chips were off the menu I ordered Beef with potatoes and cauliflower cheese. My partner ordered Duck. The food came and there was two miniscule pieces of beef and 3 small potatoes with a small side portion of cauliflower cheese. The duck was marginally better sized.Whilst it tasted nice it was not even a child's portion of food and didn't touch the sides. I was so hungry I went to the café next door for a sandwich. If Beef, potatoes etc is on the menu as a meal then it should be a decent size and consistent. I would call it a starter.Staff were nice enough but the whole experience was slow and disappointing. I noticed a lady in a table opposite got a much better portion and garnish that was missing from my meal.Underwhelming and I cannot recommend.

Firstly Waddesdon Manor is a very charming and well organised National Trust property. If you combine that with a beautiful English summers day and the incredible culinary delight we experienced at The Manor Restaurant we had a very enjoyable visit. At first viewing the menu seems a little limited, but please do not be put off by that, because the food that arrives on your table will blow you away.We will be back. 10/10

Good morning, just thought I'd tell you about my meal out yesterday. I visited Waddesdon manor which is a national trust property in Aylesbury and had read before we left that they had a restaurant there so we decided to have a meal out if it wasn't expensive. On arrival I realised I hadn't brought anything as an emergency in case they were hopeless I sat down and prepared to do the usual speech to them about being Coeliac blah, blah, blah but the menu was already on the table and to my surprise the first thing on it was the set menu option which stood out to me as it was in a different colour and all the options for the 3 courses were gluten free!! (That's never happened before) on further inspection at least one option from the main menu was GF to and at the bottom there was a note to say other things marked GF available meant it could be adapted and they had GF bread and brioche. I ordered the main and pud from the set menu which was £16.50 and said to the waiter I was Coeliac, crossed my fingers and waited. I was not disappointed. Lovely main (poached sea trout with pesto) and then the exciting bit, PUDDING!! There was not a chocolate brownie in site instead I had a sort of deconstructed cheese cake and I was shocked at how like the non GF version it looked so asked the poor waiter 3 times if he was sure there was no mistake as I normally didn't get GF puddings like this. He smiled and went and double checked with the chef that he had remembered and reaffirmed that the pudding had GF shortbread on it instead of an oat biscuit topping and sure enough he was right. (I compared them, but you can never be to careful.) They were really clued up and I was very impressed. As for the house itself, stunning, so if you like historical buildings it's definitely worth a visit.

What could be nicer than having a well cooked and presented lunch, whilst looking out at the magnificence of Waddesdon Manor gardens. We both had the fish speciality which was freshly cooked and served up within fifteen minutes. Our table was situated outside the restaurant under a large awning. Service was friendly and efficient. Only downside was the outdoor furniture which in my opinion could be updated, to make the dining experience complete.

The Manor Restaurant is part of the main house and consists of two parts which are quite different in character. On entry there is a room with a high ceiling which is light and airy and displays old serving and cooking utensils around the room. Next to this room is a darker more sober room. Service was great and personal. My breakfast was excellent with sausages and bacon that tasted amazing, the toast was equally good. Although the breakfast at over £10 was relatively expensive the whole meal with my wife, who didn't eat, comprising two soft drinks and a coffee for £13 seems reasonable.

Been before. Reviewed before. So shouldn't be surprised ... but we were. Because I continue to be surprised that you can get 4 waiting staff gathered around a till chatting whilst you're waiting to order. Surprised that someone can wait on the table next to you and yet manage to turn around and walk away without looking over which, if they had, they'd have seen we were still waiting to order. Thankfully the food is delicious and setting charming. If only they could sort the service out ... if only.

Food was faultless - had one of the best Christmas lunches I can remember. Staff were wonderful, service was great and the wine, of course, was fantastic. It was well priced and the menu was tempting from start to finish. The smoked Haddock rarebit starter is an award winner. The fresh breads were wonderful and my turkey and its magnificent sauce (far to good to call gravy) will live on in my memory.I would love to see this a little 'smarter' as the surroundings are so grand and luxurious that it would be entirely fitting, but that's just a passing remark and does not reflect on how wonderful the experience was.

I know it was Christmas and very busy but I'm not sure whether I'd go for afternoon tea again. We had booked for 4 p.m. but there seemed to be many people still finishing lunch when we arrived and we had to queue in a corridor outside which wasn't the best start. The staff were doing their best and the service once we were seated was very good. The food was enjoyable with an excellent variety of savoury and sweet treats displayed on tiered plates. The problem was that the whole place lacked atmosphere - maybe it would be better during a quieter time.

Book ahead! Then enjoy the anticipation of a plate of savoury snacks, followed by too many delicious mini sweet things. So many we took three home with us in a neat little Waddesden box doggy bag. Save a savoury item for when you cannot eat any more sweet things and then you may be able to finish them all!?The tea selection was splendid. I tried the Darjeeling first, found it a little too light in flavour so switched to the Oxford Brew which was just perfect to match the strong flavours of the food. The waitress was lovely and friendly. The food did take rather a long time to appear however and we were not the only table to wait over 20 minutes for the savoury selection to arrive. Not sure why the delay occured, everyone had booked ahead so they knew how many people would be there. The restaurant needs a more outgoing, welcoming maitre di to welcome everyone as they enter and the waiters should explain what's on offer, to help make the experience really special, to match the amazing Manor and gardens.

First visit. I love pies and had wanted to visit this pub for ages. I would love to have given more stars but was so disappointed that even though it was early evening my choice of pies were out of stock. Only about 6 pies available from a wonderful menu. For starter we had the vegetable soup and prawn cocktail - both very good. My husband had the fillet steak for his main course which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had my fourth pie choice option Chicken and Mushroom Pie. Unfortunately I felt the pie was overbaked as the top pastry was extremely hard and I could not cut through it or eat it. The chicken and sauce was delicious but could not see much evidence of mushroom. The vegetables and chips were cooked to perfection. Service was fantastic. The place itself looked as though it needed updating but definitely had character. The pub car park was a nightmare getting in and out. It did not help that someone had parked in the Exit so we had to leave by the Entrance! Would give it another try in the future.

This time I went to Rumsey's with just my wife although I have been several times with other members of my family since I make a point of going every time we visit my son in Tring because I love the place so much. I haven't tasted such delicious drinking chocolate anywhere. It is always so rich and velvety. I adore the stuff and, I think, could very easily get addicted to it! In addition to the actual drink they give you a very delicious little biscuit to accompany it. Every time we go, we buy some to make up at home and I can tell you it doesn't last for long - well not long enough anyway. The café itself is not very big but there are tables outside if the weather is good. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and they also sell very tempting cakes and chocolates and some savouries. Parking in Wendover is very easy and the town centre is worth a visit in its own right. I urge you to go.

Went for a family birthday lunch with my 11 month old. I phoned ahead to double check that they could accommodate a baby in their food options and facilities and was warmly told “yes of course!” When we arrived there was a high chair set up with no safety strap attached (broken as only half was missing) the food was okay, a lovely small portion of roast chicken for him which he loved. However, my issue arose when i needed to change my baby’s nappy. I went into the women’s toilets and there was no baby change facilities so I came out to ask the staff “I wondered if there are any baby chance facilities I could use?” And the man I spoke to replied quite offhandedly and rudely “no it’s a 15th century building what do you expect.” I ended up having to change my son’s nappy on the bathroom floor on a blanket, as the alternative was to walk him back to the car in the rain. I understand that old buildings have less space for baby changing etc, but as I had phoned in advance to double check, it would have been nice to have been pre-warned of this. I also didn’t appreciate being spoken to so rudely by the staff member.
