Bull & Butcher in Aylesbury Vale

Lovely village pub. A warm welcome from the landlady. Visited on three occasions for something to eat at teatime, each time, a warm greeting and good service. Sadly, the current proprietors are leaving very soon, so I do not know what is happening in the future.

Nice little quaint pub. Visited as cheering on the local charity cycle 110k ride.

Our new local. Friendly, unspoiled by screens, rotating selection of cask ales, welcoming hosts. Super food and a regularly changed menu with options for vegans and willingness to cater for allergies and intolerances. All you need for a great village pub.

Visited for lunch, it was cold outside and it would have been nice to have a fire lit to give some ambiance. However we were welcomed and the menu though limited had good choices for us. Two of us had the fish and chips which was very good. The others had the duck but asked for the fondant potato to be changed to Dauphinois which the chef kindly agreed to. It came with roasted veg and was absolutely delicious.

Great food, brilliant atmosphere, we love it there.

I think when you visit a place you have never been to it's important to shop local, and eat local today this is more important if we are to keep some great pubs going. I really enjoyed the food here, the friendly nature of a pub goes along way when you walk in and it has loads here, Run by a lovely young couple the menu is simple good value and honest food, delicious and plentiful. A warm welcome good wine and beer and excellent food. If you are visiting Buckingham or Stowe School you will love this place for it's charm. Watch out for their little helper who is adorable.. we will be back for sure. thanks for a lovely lunch the other day.

Friendly staff, good honest food, relaxed atmosphere, bar is dog friendly. We visited on a November Friday evening and it was quiet, no booking required.

Off the beaten track but definitely worth the trip through beautiful countryside and stunning villages. Sunday lunch was superb - I had roast sirloin of beef with beautifully sweet roasted carrots, crisp roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding filled with bacon and sprouts. The extensive burger menu was appreciated especially by the chilli fan in our family. The kids menu was great. Puddings didn't disappoint with sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie particularly good. This place has a chilled out atmosphere in which locals gather at the bar and visitors like us with kids were equally welcome. All 6 of us rated it a great Sunday lunch.

Lovely pub in this small tucked away village. What a find! Visited on Sunday. It was too hot for roast for me so I had the fish and chips which were delicious. My husband and friends had the roast and it looked delicious! Will be returning!

I booked a table for Sunday lunch and my goodness it is the best Sunday Lunch I have had. We were staying in Maids Moreton and Akeley was the next village and on our walking route and I’m so pleased it was. The landlady was so lovely and made us feel very welcome. Compliments to the chef, the Sunday lunch was amazing and other meals coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic. We heard another table saying how nice the fish and chips were and also the burger, so I think everything is pretty fabulous. We sat in the garden and it was great and lots of room. There is a good choice of drinks with a few specialist ales on pump. On leaving the landlady and a local gentleman suggested a different route back to Maids Moreton across the fields and it was great, we went through an Alpaca field 😊 It was just as they had said and bought us out right across the road from where we were staying. I highly highly recommend going to The Bull and Butcher 10/10

I really can't fault this village pub. We visited in early January for an evening meal, the welcome was genuine which was complimented by good food and drink. Having returned to the area to catch up with friends earlier this month, we again chose to eat here, we were not disappointed. The same pleasant welcome, really enjoyable food and good ales. Friends and their children joined us later, a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The food is varied and the steak that I had was cooked as ordered. I will not hesitate to return and it is dog friendly in the bar area. If it was not for that option we may not have visited the first time! A great village pub.

Lovely owners and a lovely atmosphere, went for a new years day drink and felt very relaxed, our dog also became relaxed and was also welcomed, considering his size...🐺 reccommend to all...🍷🍻

Myself and my partner spend the day at Stowe House, we found the Bull and Butcher on search. Very friendly, excellent food and comfortable place to visit. Sat with a few locals to watch the rugby and felt very welcome, good folk. If we are close again we will remember and pay another visit. Thank you so much. Stephen and Jackie.

Lovely pub in Akeley. Quick, friendly service, straight forward menu, nice food, good prices. I had a chicken salad which really was good. Son had a burger, again excellent. And their onion rings were massive!

We had been to visit Stowe and were looking for a place for lunch and found the Bull & Butcher. It looked a bit scruffy on the outside but inside was nice and friendly and had a garden where we ate. The menu was not too big, which is always a good sign in my opinion but a good variety of dishes. It was not typical pub food but well prepared, quality food. It was run by a young couple, he was the chef and his wife served us. We would certainly return

We were staying locally and our host suggested the pub for a meal as it was in walking distance. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food we received - I had the lamb steak and it was cooked perfectly and served beautifully - my husband had a burger served with a really soft and fresh bun. He thoroughly enjoyed it. He was offered samples of the ales to help him chose which one he wanted and nothing seemed like too much trouble. We felt the price was very reasonable. If we are in the area again we will definitely return.

Pleasant little classic country pub. Simple menu with good food

Just finished an experience at Silverstone and saw this pub driving back to London. Definitely pit this in your journey planner to stop for lunch! The burgers are very special. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Lovely old classic British pub atmosphere too.

We had a lovely service from a lady called Jo Who I believe is the owner. She was working on her own it seemed, during the buy one get one free burger deal which I think operates on a Wednesday only. Jo was delightful, smiley cheerful happy and so attentive. she deserves the regular customers who return and have recommended the place, clearly she’s passionate about what the pub represents. There was a lot of food I can’t deny and my only thought was that the burger was ever so greasy and my friend commented the same. The chips were lovely. I would go back, and it’s very clean inside and extremely warm which made it comfortable and cosy.

Second time coming here and the burgers were just as amazing as the first time! We came with 2 friends as it was 2-4-1 burger on Wednesdays and Thursdays and the loved it too. Would highly recommend people to try this place.

Went for a festive meal with family. Meal was good but could have been better. Starters were lovely especially the soup and mushrooms. The turkey main was a little disappointing. The turkey itself was very tasty, roast potatoes a little anaemic and only two of them. It could be improved by including the trimmings - pig in blanket, stuffing, roast parsnip. The brownie was delicious, crumble very nice but very thin custard and a little thin. I must say the owners work very hard, Alister in the kitchen and Danni running the bar as well as waitressing. Well done overall a good meal, value for money. I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for the trimmings.

We arrived at 1.20 for a 1.30 booking on a Sunday lunch, The pub was empty apart from 1 bloke in the corner, we told them we had a jack Russell miniature dog which wasn't a problem, around 3.30 after we'd spent nearly £200 they came and told us there was a problem with the dog sitting on the bench seat, it had been there 2 hours , so it seems strange they had said that and only 1 more bloke had come Into the pub . So I'm not sure if he complained, we felt uneasy then and drank up & left. Very strange and not dog friendly in my opinion. They may leave the odd hair about but he was well behaved all day. The service was good , the food was below average, the furnace burger had no heat to it & we had to ask for extra chips as there was only a handful. Will not be returning

Had a soda and lime to drink, the lime juice was practically non existent. Ordered a chicken burger with melted cheese, Mayo, tomato and lettuce. Not enjoyable and very expensive for what was delivered. Would not recommend

We enjoyed an excellent dinner in the convivial surroundings of the Bull & Butcher. Traditional pub food served hot and well, good choice of drinks and, most importantly for us, friendly, welcoming and efficient hosts. We shall return to this fine value establishment with enthusiasm....

A disappointing meal, one steak meal was burnt and cold and was replaced, the roasts were also tepid and mediocre, the service was very slow and glad we sat in the bar as the dining room looked soulless. The puddings were good. Shall not return.

Great pub. Bags of character. We were only passing through from Middlesbrough to Buckingham. The menu looked top notch. The landlady was so friendly. Parking was just outside.

Came with little expectation from a very damp campsite to nearby pub. Very friendly welcome from landlord. Surprised by interesting menu (not pub grub). I had Stone Bass and my wife had tortellini. And excellent deserts and wine.Seats were comfortable (not hard wooden pub seating). Service was excellent.Great experience. Thanks

We ordered the scotch eggs as a starter which were DELICIOUS! My partner chose the steak which was cooked to his liking & my pork loin & truffle mash were perfect, generous portion sizes but nothing went to waste! The waitress and bar staff were very tentative, overall a great atmosphere and we will definitely be recommending to family & friends.

Visited the bull and butcher on the 5th of April For the second time

We met with family here for Sunday lunch, however when we arrived they had no reservation for us. As we had all cine quite far we were gutted, however the lovely landlady quickly reassured us and made space for us despite being fully booked. We sat in the bar which was absolutely fine, and were quickly and cheerfully served drinks and menus. The menu was lovely with traditional roasts and really interesting alternatives. We had the calamari which was very nicely prepared with a crab mayo and not the usual deep fried with garlic mayo and was very nice indeed. I had the chicken which was delicious and my family all really enjoyed the roast beef. All the staff were really friendly and did a great job but highest praise for the landlady who was really lovely. Definitely we will return its a great pub, great food and great staff.

Visited with a group of 7 of us. Really great Sunday lunch. The starters were very good. The roast beef was deliciously pink and tender. The roast potatoes were very well cooked - often they can be hard and unappetising for a large group but these were all very nicely cooked. Desserts were delicious - the Maltesers creme brûlée was yummy and the homemade sorbets were a perfectly tangy end to lunch!

Yet again a fantastic experience visiting the Bull and Butcher for an evening meal.

I don’t often write a review but tonight’s dinner was so delicious we ended up eating all 3 courses without a scrap of food left. Great choice, well presented and super tasty. Not been for a while but will be back.

A group of 10 of us visited this pub, walking from Maids Moreton to Akeley, ending up at the Bull & Butcher for a great lunch. Pies, roast chicken, fish & chips, and scotch eggs all round were lovely. Great puddings (sorbet, ice cream, and strawberry panacotta) went down very well, along with a slosh of port. (Also had multiple vegetarian, gluten free, and vegan options.) The service was excellent, Alister was friendly and very attentive. Would recommend.

This is a lovely pub in a small village a couple of miles outside Buckingham. Decent, if unadventurous, ales on tap and it’s crowning glory, tremendously good gastropub food. Of six adults, not one bum note throughout the meal - and all had starters, mains and dessert - apart from one who was too full for the last. My pork tenderloin with truffle mash was divine - as was the steak which my friend let me have a morsel of. Well priced for the quality, cheerful service and a pleasantly warm atmosphere - thoroughly recommend.

Lovely food, we have eaten here a number of times and whichever dish I/friends/family have is always delicious. The steaks and roast dinner are amazing. A cosy old fashioned pub with a friendly and easy atmosphere, with excellent wines and beers/ales. A real traditional gem which we frequent and enjoy. It also has a great large garden for the summer times.

We chose this pub as a half way house between family in Leicester and High Wycombe for a get together before Christmas.

Looking for a quick lunch stop as in area. Great food, quick service and a lovely welcome. So nice to be greeted straight away and food was really good. Hope to come back for a Sunday roast soon

Ignore the reviews rating The Bull and Butcher as average or below. They are all dated from 2016 and earlier Every review since At the present team have been there have rated Good or Excellent. This is now one of the best dining experiences in the area.

Very friendly, relaxed pub with a couple of ales on tap, a lovely bar area and a big garden. Just what you want after a walk.

My wife and I were passing so stopped for lunch. Friendly welcome, fresh beer, good menu. The food is excellent, perfectly cooked calamari is a rarity, especially in a pub! That was followed by fish n chips with petits pois, homemade tartare sauce. All delicious, well cooked, well presented and well priced. We will be back.
