I know everyone has their own opinion of places they visit but I've seen some of these reviews and the more negative ones I don't agree with. The food here is great from all chefs/staff (I'm a fussy bugger so I prefer my food to be cooked by one chef in particular and that's Mike, his breakfasts are heavenly and he's super friendly and always asks how everything is, which makes it 10x better), the service here is top notch, everyone is really lovely, I'm always greeted with a warm welcome when I come in and most tend to remember my order too which is lovely. There are lot of cafes/coffee shops around me but I always come back to this one, I will never go anywhere else. To all the staff/chefs/management/owners of the mad hatter, well done! If I could give you more than 5 stars I would. Much love from one of your local customers. Lauren. Keep up the great work ♥️

Called in for coffee excellent service goo atmosphere friendly staff

The full English is not at all worth £10. The quality and amount of food was mediocre at best, mushrooms and eggs were watery and the toast was cold. The bacon was also disappointing. The restaurant itself is nice enough, it was very cold though, I had to put my coat back on. Staff were also slightly standoffish, not particularly welcoming.

Staff very friendly, muffin and coffee both excellent, menu very extensive, looking forward to trying more things soon. 5*

A lovely local coffee shop with friendly staff and quirky, Alice in Wonderland themed decor. Great music, reasonably priced drinks, great place to do some work with a snack and a latte.

A decent find in Hove with a quirky atmosphere inside. Very busy on a Sunday morning because there was a nearby 10K race taking place for the coffee with smooth and fragrant and the granola slice was tasty too

A lovely little place. We ordered a full English breakfast and poached eggs on toast. Both were wonderfully cooked and it was a really relaxing space to be as we were able to watch the world go by with no pressures to move on or purchase more. Thank you for a lovely morning

I tried this place on a whim and was quite pleased, overall. £11.85 for the pictured breakfast was, probably, about right given its location (I've paid more for worse food). Superb sausage and bacon though, having asked for scrambled eggs, was a tad disappointed to receive an omelette. That said, it's texture and taste were excellent. I would recommend.

I tried this place on a whim, and wasn't too disappointed. £11.85 for Full English Breakfast with tea. A quite superb sausage (one of the best I've tasted, and I know my sausages 😋 😀). Initially I was a bit miffed that I received an omelette rather than the requested scrambled eggs, but it was quite delicious. I will be back ere long.

Food was dreadful, eggs royal had hard boiled eggs so asked to change the eggs 10 minutes later the guy behind the counter come back and then said it will 20 minutes for the food as they now have more guests, we was the only diners in the cafe when we first ordered. 25 minutes later still no food so we asked for a refund. The owner didn’t look up from over the counter nor apologised to us. There was a lady behind the counter who was lovely and come over and apologised. Avoid this place at all costs.

Do not give this business your money, because they Clarke hate their jobs! Ordered eggs Benedict, correct me if I’m wrong but this comes with a runny poached egg! Both our eggs came out as a hard poached egg! I apologised for taking both breakfast eggs back as the egg was completely hard and over cooked, and all I got was oh you want them runny! 10 mins later another waiter come over to tell us we now have to wait 20 mins ( no apologies ) and just that they now had other breakfast to cook, even though it was just 2 min boiled eggs. We waited longer ( whilst the chef was smashing around in the kitchen, clearly upset we wanted our eggs cooked correctly , still nothing - asked for a refund, got an ok but then nothing again until we went up and asked for a refund. Shocking customer service! Ended up in SIX just up the road and they just showed exactly what food and customer experience is , so save yourself from this hell hole and visit SIX I

The Mad Hatter has a countryside vibe to me. It’s chill and relaxing. Very nice and friendly staff. I tried Spanish omelette, hash browns, and a latte there until now. All of them were amazing. And also the prices are affordable. I would give the whole place a 8/5 out of 10.

A lovely little cafe, dog friendly, relaxed atmosphere and pretty decor. Amaaaazing banana & Nutella milkshake and the all-day brekkie was yummy (crispy bacon, as requested). My mum was also very impressed with the porridge with bananas and a hot chocolate. Would definitely recommend!

When I walked in I had to ask behind the counter for a menu was handed to me with out a hello. Breakfast was ok zero atmosphere poor customer service. use to be a fun place to watch the world. No music being played ? Weird vibe 🤷🏽‍♀️ shame

Great breakfasts and a comfortable place to stop for coffee. Been going there for 14 years, now bringing my daughters.

Went in looking for a late lunch, service was quick with the falafel wraps being some of the best I've ever had anywhere. Several things weren't available on the menu not helped by the staff being poor at communicating things clearly.

Friendly staff, but the prices here are too high for what you get. £8 for a cheese toastie, and despite it's Alice in wonderland theme, the place could do with a refurb.

The special of the day was Beef Lasagne and it was absolutely delicious !! They do a nice cup of tea aswell ! Pleasant staff and good service.

Very accommodating young man and a couple of Portugués tarts!

Food tasted awful with smaller portions than usual, coffee had a burnt taste and some guy working there who served us food was petting a dog and didn't even bother washing their hands. I'll never set foot in that place again cos it's no longer what it used to be

This cafe became my regular haunt during the Covid outbreak. Friendly service, great coffee and excellent for people watching passing by. Their English breakfast is excellent, with a good vegan alternative. Sausage is outstanding.

Popped in here for coffee and at first felt unwelcome as I asked for coffee only . It felt like I was being awkward not ordering anything else. But the coffees were the best I've had in a very long time . So thanks 😊 Definitely recommend the coffee ☕

I'm quite excited about the Spanish tortilla with salad. Absolutely authentic, generous portions, crisp salad. Loved it. Added some salmon to one, some hummus to the other, and we had a bit of a moment eating them both. Also highly recommend the Latino-inspired smoothies. The guyabano and acerola mixes went well with the meal. Really nice people and a relaxed vibe.

The full English breakfast and flat white coffee I had was lovely! However, the lady who served me was as miserable as sin. Which ruined the atmosphere for me. I understand everyone has a bad day do maybe that's why she was like that. Even when I said bye and thank you see just ignored me.

The spanish Tortilla was kinda heated on the edges and quiet cold in the middle with the rest being Luke warm, the worst type of heated..it had too many potatoes not enough egg. The green salad was ok but the added long stringy red cabbage and carrots doesn't work its impossible to eat. I ordered some salmon but it was a tiny tiny portion. The coffe was nice. Not a lot of hand cleaning going on. Reasonable service..

Found this place by chance as I was looking for a place for breakfast- all I can say it was excellent from the moment I walked Full covid procedure in place and nothing was too much problem and the full English breakfast was outstanding and their customer service was excellent- can’t wait to return

We ordered the eggs royal but the only thing royal about it was, it looked like Diana's car crash. The gluten free toast was not toasted soggy and cold, although the eggs where cooked ok they had no flavour and the salmon was cheap n tasted like a fisherman's trench foot. the hollandaise sauce had a sickly armpit sweat flavour. Defo not worth £8.50. Saying that, the smoothy was nice

An extremely competitive & fair price for a delicious large latte. The staff are always very friendly & welcoming. The Mad Batter is one of my favourite place to go for a coffee. They don't have a loyalty card for hot drinks which most of the other cafes have but this is balanced out by the fact that their hot drinks prices are significantly cheaper than other cafes.

Had the pleasure of dining here for brunch this afternoon. The full english breakfast was delicious and they even had oat milk ❤ Georgina went above and beyond while serving us. First time in Brighton for years and seems I struck gold finding this place. Thank you Georgina (and Mad Hatter crew)! Xxx

We enjoyed our lunch here. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, even rejecting an orange juice for me as our server thought it wasn't good enough for me. We both had salads and both were fresh and very tasty.

Took a while to take my order but when it came it was worth it. Best latte I have since pre-lockdown! Thank you!

I have started visiting this coffee shop after lockdown, on a more regular basis. The coffee is excellent and service very friendly. Outdoors is a great place for people watching.

Rather than pay a tenner for a hotel breakfast we went here and were not disappointed. A wide variety of breakfast choices. Very good English with a good quality veggie or meat sausage and irher quality ingredients. Just right, recommended.

Just after eating here. Staff were nice but the eggs Benedict I just ate made me gag. Absolutely disgusting eggs. Completely undercooked where the white slime was dripping off the ham and muffin. I would not reccomend.

Lovely breakfasts, the cheese mushroom omelette is my favourite! Great service too, lots of smiling faces and very prompt. One of my favourite places in Brighton.

Fried egg and bacon sarnie for a fiver. Perfectly cooked egg and lovely thick bacon slices served piping hot as if you were at home. Yeah the place is a little out dated but the food and service alone was impeccable. Was my first visit, definitely wont be my last!

Came in for a fry up. I can honestly say it’s one of the best ones I’ve ever eaten!!! Nice full plate and quality ingredients, will be returning. Cooked to perfection

Apareció para el desayuno como quedarse cerca. Servicio realmente amable y buen café Disfruté de mi desayuno vegetariano preparado y el Avo / huevos con tostadas parecía perfectamente preparado.Tienen un menú realmente grande pero luchan un poco si sales de la pista. Mi amigo quería un sándwich tostado de tocino y salchichas y terminó teniendo que pedirlo como artículos separados que luego no venían con suficiente mantequilla. Si simplificaran un poco y lograran lo básico, sería una gran mejora.

It was a very long walk to Sevenoaks HiFi shop. I needed a rest and a drink. Ordered a cappuccino and a custard tart which were promptly served.

The place reinvented green salads, in their version there’s pasta... other than that dishes don’t come out at the same time, and when they do come out they are not great

Lovely quirky cafe Very reasonably priced. Clean and scrumptious full English- love every aspect, cooked exactly how I enjoy. Croissants and jam were very cheap and tasted great! Would highly recommend for friends / family trip for breakfast/ brunch.

Bustling little cafe. Nice food and good coffee. Despite the good food and drink the seating has to be described as functional with little effort taken to make the place cozy. If you want a good coffee then its great but don't expect loads of home comforts.

Tenía un croque Monsieur. Estaba realmente decepcionado. Utilizan rebanadas de pan blanco muy barato y jamón super barato. No fue como ningún croque Monsieur que haya tenido realmente. No sabía nada de nada. . . Y la salsa de tomate en casa es como la mermelada de tomate. Es extrañamente dulce. No volvería a ir. No es culpa del personal o de los cocineros que solo necesitan cargar las recetas.

I always enjoy the food at this cafe. Today we had two coffees and two ciabattas and the bill came to £18. You get a wonderful side salad and potato salad with the meal and the fillings are good quality and generous. Consistently good service too.
