Absolutely delicious roasts and really lovely service at this local pub! The chef does an incredible job, and the bar staff are super welcoming and accommodating. Was lovely playing pool and hearing them all chat to customers, felt proper homely!

Dropped in here ad-hoc, for Sunday lunch, food was good but took a while to arrive. As they were busy. Would advise booking!

A new favourite in the local area for sure. Great decor, a great selection of boardgames to play and really tasty food. We'll definitely be back

Had a Wake at the Hartington and all throughout while organising it the staff were friendly and customer focused. The food was great and the pub is lovely.

By far my favourite pub in Brighton! From the workers to the food, it’s always spot on. The Sunday roasts by Claire are always above amazing, the dog friendliest pub going, 10/10 ❤️

We hired this for a Quake only a few minutes away from the Woodvale and Downs crematoriums , The buffet food was lovely, and well catered, pub is set in a nice quiet street , street parking ok Restricted times are 11am -12 noon so all good after 12 pm

Yesterday it was my father's funeral and we held the wake in The Hartington. Emma and her staff were brilliant. There was ample free parking nearby , the pub was spotless, the staff were very friendly and the buffet was superb. Thank you so much Emma for all of the effort you put in to make this occasion special.

Thought would give the Hartington a visit for their sunday roast as advised new chef now working. We had the the lamb and the beef. Everything was cooked to perfection and the tastiest sunday roast I've ever had. Think will be making it a regular sunday event. Stayed after for a few beers and a game of pool and darts. Don't miss out, give the Sunday Roast a try, you wont be dissapointed.

Lovely and we’ll priced food! Great decor and vibe. Garden is a lovely space for families due to Wendy house, but would be great if they could include some toys. If I could make a suggestion, during the week would be a great outdoor cafe space in the summer if they turned the shack bit into a coffee stand for mum/dad meet-ups. Obviously I’m family biased!

Hands down the best roast in Brighton. Deserves to be fully booked. Highly recommend!

This pub is our local. From where it was, to where it is now; is truly amazing. Great food, great beer, vibrant design and friendly staff. Super happy with the results.

We booked the venue for a family wake, Emma was my contact, and she was so good with responding to the emails quickly with the information requests. we even changed the date and time, and nothing was too much trouble. The venue was perfect for us, the staff were very helpful, and the food was lovely, we had left overs more because our numbers changed and I did not want to muck the team around, but the food was so nice some of the family left with takeaway packs. Thank you to the team, a lovely venue, and a friendly helpful team.

I took my friend to The Hart for Sunday lunch and I have to say the food was delicious, a huge portion of meat, veg and roasties... The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and staff friendly and attentative. Definitely one of the best roasts I've had in Brighton and bonus being on my doorstep...👍❤

I don't like leaving negative reviews ,but I can't not share the experience we just had . I booked after seing pictures online of how lovely the food looked and how cosy the pub looked ,but rather quickly that possitivity didnt last .We booked for brunch with santa at 1230 ,after sitting at our table for over an hour ,with no staff welcoming us or any interaction, we asked the bar when our pre ordered food was coming ,to be told we would need to re order our food because too many people had changed their orders . So a staff member came over to take our order and she walked off as my partner was talking ,the food came out all wrong so had to wait until the children had finished their meals for missing items to be bought out and when they was they were vile and tasted frozen . Santa was sat at the bar sinking pints and my children commented on the smell when they came back from sitting with him. We had no apology the whole time we was there .no explanations and no good bye or thank you for coming .the customer service is the worst iv ever experienced in my life .

I previously left a pretty critical review based on my historical experience of the Harty vis-à-vis where it was at the time a few months ago which I've deleted. However, I went there tonight. It was very inviting. Everything worked as it should, It was as busy as it every really was on a Saturday night and I had a nice time. I'm personally going to go more and happy to eat my words. My previous review was based on a strong historical emotional attachment and, on the basis of my recent experience. that is reinvigorated.

What a great pub, open fire all day, super friendly staff and the roast was amazing. Had the nicest short rib ever!!!!! Great atmosphere and an amazing Sunday out. Thanks guys xx

We chose this place to celebrate my birthday and my god what a disaster. There was a massive dog jumping on top of everyone, the roasts were disgusting. The beef was chewy, the gravy was awful and the yorkshires were raw. My biggest regret was choosing this place for my birthday. Drinks were ok.

Vegan option was yammy( wish they had even more options) great service, we where 6 people we all had a great time

Just had a delightful roast here. Gravy served with the lamb was amazing, potatoes were spot on and it came with a nice side plate of veg. Cauliflower cheese was the best I've had and had a nice truffle flavour. Drinks were actually resonably priced for Brighton. Staff all very friendly. Just moved to the area and feel like I've lucked out having this at my doorstep.

Hartington is our local pub and we were so sad when it was closed for ages but the refurb is lovely and all the staff and the new look are great. Nice selection of beers and loads of space inside and out. We love grabbing a sunset beer in the garden. We also had our civil partnership party at the pub and MJ and her amazing staff couldn't have done more for us, the food was so good our guests couldn't stop raving, and it was an awesome vibe, lovely lighting, nice beer selection, etc. The perfect pub wedding party basically.

Amazing pub.Heard they are under new ownership. Tried the new menu and the food is incredible. Definitely a go to for a Sunday roast. Staff are attentive and the music and atmosphere is perfect. Will definitely be back!

We visit this pub whenever we visit my daughter in Brighton as its near her house, you can park and it has a good veggie choice. Went last week and had three roasts. Two meat one veggie. Very nice. Looked like something like paprika or turmeric added to nut roast which slightly masked the nut flavour. Nice though. My only personal dislike was the roast potatoes. Looked like cooked in oil and a hard coating of all cracked in places. I hate seeing any oil and dry roast my potatoes so couldn't eat them. Not had this issue there before so maybe just the end of a batch. Followed by delicious apple crumble. Will be back soon

The Hartington is a nice pub but the seating is much to hard

Visited for a Sunday roast after being recommended to by a friend. they offer two veggie options (a delicious vegan wellington and veggie nut roast) in addition to the standard meat options. I was pleased with the excellent range of vegetables accompanying the roast and the perfectly cooked yorkshire pudding!

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely pie and mash each with a drink. Choice of 4 pies. We had chicken and leek and beef and ale. They tasted delicious and very filling. Staff friendly. Definitely recommend

Amazing tuna salad and chips. Great beer garden, friendly staff and good selection of sweets to choose from.

Visited again after a long gap and the new owners are doing a great job of transforming the place. Still things to do, but had some great food and looking forward to another visit soon.

Brilliant pub, the garden is great for families with a lovely play area for the kids. Food was lush and the staff are so friendly, will definitely be returning soon!

Chic decor! Went for Sunday lunch, great crispy pork belly and assorted veggies. All really tasty! Nice garden area if you prefer to eat outside. Great pint of Guiness but no real ales as yet. I was assured they are coming soon which would complete the perfect English pub experience.

Newly reopened after a needed freshening up. They’ve kept pretty much the same tone: nice friendly local. Background music not too loud so possible to chat. No draught beer as yet but apparently that’s to come. Worth a visit.

An interesting location-right off a roundabout in Shoreham-but easy parking & plenty of seats outside to watch the world go by. Nice little touches like pots of lavender on the tables....& inside-a warm welcoming feel, again with a lovely finish. We sipped our refreshing drinks & unfortunately he didn’t really like his-no real reason-& the bartender didn’t even bat an eyelid whilst pouring another pint for him. Obviously no charge....Top marks.

Not great. Came for Sunday roast and it was served on cold plate and was maximum luke warm if so. Portion are not big and gravy was water tastes and without any colour . Nice pub good choice of wine. Wouldn’t recommend to eat =(

Visited today. Lunch for 4. Good food, especially the chips, reasonable prices and punctual service by a very amiable staff.

This has the potential to be a fantastic family pub with its large beer garden and excellent location. When it was taken over a few years back the beer garden was transformed and it became really popular with families and locals. Sadly it feels like it's been left to rot recently. The Beer garden is hardly used and it's often just a handful of "regulars" propping up the bar, who are often very rude to other customers. The Beer garden could use some love as there's lots of broken tables and the kids playhouse often has cat poo and broken glass in it. The locals propping up the bar don't move for anyone and can be extremely rude. Recently a young lady had been waiting a while and quite rightfully got annoyed when the barman served the locals that had just walked in before her. They verbally abused her with sexist insults for questioning it and the bar staff were equally as rude to her and told her she was in the wrong venue. Disgusting. I've not returned since. It's such a shame that someone can't transform it back to the community hub it once was and give it some love. Some better Beer would make a big difference too, with so many decent Craft bars around they could really do with upping their game on that front, especially as half the taps seem to be off most of the time. I'd love this to be better as it's so local to us and the other Elm Grove School parents. The image of the glass just shows how little interest the bar staff have now. Anyone who cares about the place they work at would notice something as simple as a filthy glass. They definitely wouldn't give it to a child. It's also worth mentioning the music which recently has been massively inappropriate. At 3:30 mid week with a number of children there they thought the Grime playlist would be a great idea. Constant swearing and talking about killing people and abusing women. Fine later when it's just adults but not with kids.

We had a super Sunday lunch today - 3 roasts and a vegan roast.All excellent and well presented. Good value and the people working there were all so very helpful - it made for a lovely relaxed occasion! THANK YOU VERY MUCH INDEED!

After paying for a vegan Sunday roast, my food arrived with creamed leaks on the plate, when I explained creamed leaks are not vegan I was told it’s the last vegan meal so nothing they can do! My only option was to scrape the leaks and any other vegetables that it had touched to one side, no offer of a refund, very poor service.

Good food. Nice atmosphere. A good local, staff and service are good too. I would recommend the pork belly for Sunday lunch!

Although the pub was friendly, the comedy club was awful. The compère was great but most of the so called ‘comedians’ were horrendous- to the point of near silence in the room( everyone had been told NOT to heckle). Mysogenistic, racist, homophobic - no comedic content, disgusting. A real shame as it could have been a great night had it been funny. The only comedienne was quite funny as was the compère. Never again . Also no covid distancing at all.

It took 45 minutes to get a drink then another half hour for an expresso coffee. Staff were nice & polite just maybe could have done with extra staff. I'm Brighton born and bred,iv never been in this pub before,it's a nice place overall.

The staff were lovely and the playhouse went down well with the kids. It was a shame the garden and kids toys are a bit run down, wouldn't take much to spruce it up a bit. The Sunday roast was not very nice unfortunately.

Can your staff not realize when the gas had run out !!! That's right, try to blame the customer for YOU serving flat beer. A respectful apology was all what was needed from you, " admit when you nrss up" !

Came to Brighton for a birthday celebration at this pub. Sat outside in the booths with those great heaters & ended the evening inside. The very lovely Julianna looked after us brilliantly, smiling throughout, even at the end of the night.

Great pub, looks after the locals while being accomodating to new comers. Bar staff are lovely and always smiling. Pool and darts as well as a good quiz every Thursday, well worth a visit. Shout out to Juliana and Jake!

We recently hired the Hartington for our wedding. From the moment we contacted them they were brilliant. Fast and clear communication throughout the whole process and they bent over backwards to accommodate us - which was really appreciated during COVID. The bar staff were so friendly and always on hand. The food was great and the drinks were very reasonably priced and didn’t compromise on quality. Being a COVID wedding we were limited to the main event taking place outdoors which they helped us deck out beautifully, and then, with a smaller party moved indoors - where it felt really warm, friendly and a great place to spend a special evening. Would definitely recommend The Hartington to anyone - for a drink or a wedding

Had the Sunday lunch nut roast - not the best to be honest. Everything was overcooked which meant a dry, almost burnt, nut roast and Yorkshire pudding, and soggy veg. Shame as the place had been recommended - maybe the midweek chef is better?

I had the apple pork burger and chips it was ok, but nothing really to write home about. The pork was well done and the cheddar too strong a taste for my liking.

Friendly helpful bar staff. They have a temporary menu at the moment; new menu coming 24/05. Reasonably priced, great white wine. My friend had 2 starters; halloumi fries and scampi which was delicious. I had the southern fried chicken burger which was immense!!!! We will definitely be returning for the new menu! Amazing garden!!!

Nice drinking pub, but I wouldn't eat there again, small portions and bland food.

Visited with friends - my friend’s food was pretty bleak so perhaps it was a small blessing when I waited an hour but my food still didn’t come. I asked for a refund as all my friends had now finished eating and I needed to go home. The waitress returned and said my food had been given to another table because I no longer wanted it and that inexplicably they would only give me a partial refund. Terrible service not worth emerging from lockdown for.

Waited 40 mins for drinks and then waited another hour to be told they are out of roasts

The drinks took a while to arrive and the app said they had arrived when they hadn’t. Staff could have been more friendly. Although the drinks were well priced, once they’d arrived.

Such a lovely find. I’ve lived across the road for the last year and have for some reason never visited. Very welcoming team with big smiles. Easy online ordering system to which I already had downloaded from another pub. The garden is so beautiful and very nice music choice too! I’ve had a lovely afternoon in the garden basking in the sun and can’t wait to return again. Keep up the good work guys.

Had Sunday lunch yesterday in the garden. The pork was delicious and beef was good. Veg all very good. Cutlery arrived almost 10 minutes after the food which wasn’t ideal. Surprised at the toilets (men’s & women’s) as they were run down and not very clean.

Went in here ages ago but just noticed you on social media and amazing reviews, can't wait tbh. I'll watch out for the sap though lmfao

Tables free - however upon request the barman retorted that those tables are for regulars only who haven’t booked. Shoddy attitude to be frank. Why not think on your feet and say it’s booked, but feel free to sit there until (or ‘if’) such regulars actually turned up?I think your barman just lost your pin about £30 worth of business.And with that attitude by way of service - essentially being labelled second class citizens in comparison with your regulars - I would be very happy to dissuade people to be patrons of this establishment if they happen to be walking through Hanover.What a shame.

We were so grateful to The Hartington for putting on this event for our children after such a tough year. Staff were welcoming and dressed as elves, kids loved that they could have coco pops and pancakes for their breakfast, Santa was great and visited each child individually with a present. When we bought our tickets we were in tier 1 so booked to sit with friends but then moved into tier 2 so had to be separated, the organiser ensured that we were still sat near to each other. It must have taken a lot of organising changing everything around at the last minute.

Food & service were sublime! I had a very tasty and generous portion of Sunday Roast in the garden. The tables in the garden are heated and sheltered, spaced from the other table. Very winter and Covid proof. 100% recommended!

Very disappointed with this event. Poorly food, long waiting, pastry never offered only for some people same with hot drink. Not worth of money at all.
