Visited today just for tea and cake, the staff were very very lovely we arrived with 7 minutes to spare before closing and we asked hopefully could we have tea and were greeted by a very accommodating ‘yes’ lovely strong pot of tea, hubbies coffee was surprisingly good and a scone with jam and cream was soooo delicious, possibly one of the most flavoursome scones I’ve eaten, we will definitely be back , I’d say a hidden gem , lovely ❤️

It was smaller than I expected (based on EH's site). Also no outdoor seating.... Really wished we'd brought our own picnic.

You can visit here if you are an English Heritage member, otherwise you need to be a visitor to the Castle and Gardens and pay the entrance fee. Set in one of the original castle bastions its a good cafe with a decent range of reasonably priced cafe type food and drinks. We went for two crème teas (one normal and one Queen Mothers ) which were being advertised on the chalk board outside and they set us up nicely for exploring the castle and the gardens.

Walmer Castle Cafe' is what you would expect from English Heritage - A nice selection of light refreshments and lunches. We had sandwiches, cake and teas which were all very good - prices are bit on the high side. The cafe's is situated in one of the ground floor bastions where there is seating inside and outside - it was a bit windy when we were there so sat inside which was very nice. Staff were friendly and the tables were keep clean when visitors left.

This is a tea room not a full restaurant of course but the food was good quality and the room, inside part of the castle itself. Above average for its type.

The quality of food and cakes at Walmer Castle Tea Rooms is high and the cafe clean and staff friendly. Lovely array of home made cakes, scones and flapjacks and a choice of eating outside or inside. Such a shame not open to non visitors of the castle as situated near the seafront with nothing in surrounding area I am sure they’d have lots of business.

We had lunch here while touring the castle. There was a reasonable range of cold and hot food, with an English emphasis and, of course, local produce. We had baked potato with tuna and salad, which was very enjoyable, and we sat outside which was perhaps a mistake as it was a little windy and things like plastic glasses kept flying off the table.

After walking round the beautiful gardens at Walmer Castle, we decided we'd earned a cream tea. Then we saw the cheesy scones, and very nearly chose them instead. They also offered a good range of hot and cold food, including, had we arrived a little earlier, a well-spoken-of roast dinner, but we were more than happy with our scones, cream and jam. Without it, the visit to the Castle would have lacked an essential component.

While exploring Walmer Castle & Gardens, why not pop in here for a bite to eat or a cuppa? May I recommend the "English Cream Tea" - yummy! A perfect "pit stop" to recharge the batteries!!!

Clean, with reasonable eats. We went here first before exploring the castle as we had driven around two hours and were in need of refreshment.

A very good use of fresh products from the castles kitchen garden especially the cooking of apples. The scones we had were thick and buttery, almost no need for jam and cream but why not indulge yourself and take from the range of teas and coffees to aid digestion. Full meals are also on the menu. We will return to taste some.

We were visiting Walmer Castle last Sunday (11th Sept.) and having read the menu, decided to have the roast chicken Sunday lunch. When it came, the chicken breast filet was tough and very pale looking, the veg was over-cooked and almost cold and the gravy totally diluted with the water from the veg. My partner, not liking broccoli, pushed this to one side and discovered a caterpillar (dead) underneath. I complained to the waitress, who informed the manager, who in turn sent the waitress back to apologise and explain that all the veg was fresh from their own garden. We were offered a refund or a free rhubarb crumble, but refused this and vowed never to eat here again. We left our food and departed with a feeling of repulsion!

Best garden salad I've had in ages. Plenty of seating inside and out so suitable in winter opening hours for lunch. Take your lunch or tea out into the garden on nice days. Pleasant staff.

We arrived at Walmer Castle at about 1.30pm and had hoped to have a light lunch in the tea room before starting the castle tour. However the castle had been closed for much of the weekend and had only just reopened. We were told no hot food would be available for at least 20 minutes. No sandwiches were made. There were some cakes, scones and sausage rolls available so all was not lost, but given the time of day you would think the kitchen preparations would have been started before the castle opened so the tea room was fully ready for lunch.I was happy with my sausage roll and coffee and my wife had a scone with her tea, so there was enough. It just would have been nicer to have had more choice. It was also rather expensive for what we had. Most of the tea room tables are inside, which is rather dark, but is also pleasantly cool because of the thick stone walls. There are a few tables outside and you can take drinks and food up to the battlements (though there are no tables there, just chairs). We were surprised the tea room had no toilet facilities. The only toilets and wash facilities are elsewhere in the castle and they are very limited at that.

This tea room is lovely and quaint with lots of things to eat on offer. They have a wide selection of cakes, biscuits, cream teas, ice cream, hot and cold drinks, and hot and cold meals. I went here with my family whilst visiting Walmer Castle. We had a pot of tea between two, a coffee and a chocolate ice cream which all came to a reasonable price. The staff were friendly and it had a lovely atmosphere. Overall it's a lovely place to have a quick bite to eat whilst visiting Walmer Castle.

Not a prepossessing title for this review, I grant you, but it may give you a hint of this building's historic past.Walmer Castle was built on the orders of King Henry VIII in the 16th.Century, to defend this part of the Kent coast against a seaborne invasion, so he feared, by the French. It was one of three such castles built in the Deal area, the others being Deal Castle(still standing and intact) and Sandown Castle(ruinous and now all but reclaimed by the sea.)Whilst Deal Castle can still be visited in its basic, original, military style, Walmer Castle has been altered down the years to provide comfortable, almost homely, residential accommodation and its once austere surroundings, originally cleared for an uninterrupted field-of-fire, are now a series of beautiful, immaculately-kept gardens. So, back to 'Old Nosey'! This was one of the affectionate nicknames given to the British military commander, Sir Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington - he of wellington-boots fame. Wellington, who was also British Prime Minister for a short while, was the man who led our army to victory over the French at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, thus finally defeating Napoleon Bonaparte. The Duke lived at the Castle for many years as Lord Warden of the Cinque ('sink') Ports, and died there in 1852. You can still see the chair in which he breathed his last as well as the old army camp bed which he insisted he slept in rather than the more comfortable one in the adjoining bedroom.Having toured the Castle and the gardens and grounds, now maintained by a full-time staff of four, assisted by 30 volunteers, you can make your way to the Tea Room situated within the Castle's circular walls.I have visited the castle many times over the past 70 years. In fact my first visit was unauthorised! At the age of two I ran away from my home, about half-a-mile away, accompanied by 'Paddiwacks' the family dog. I was found a few hours later, after much parental trauma and a general hue and cry involving most of Deal it seems, curled up asleep at the bottom of some steep steps at the Castle! I have a soft spot for the old place! The Tea Room, with about 100 covers inside and out in three separate sections, is near the Castle's shop and is easily accessible by wheelchairs. The cooked menu draws on produce grown in the Castle's vegetable and salad kitchen garden for its main ingredients and offers good value for money. However, on my most recent visit, on 1 October 2014, my wife and I opted for the cream tea consisting of scones, butter, jam and clotted cream, with coffee or tea included. We found the fruit scones well-baked with a lovely, crunchy consistency and the butter, cream and jam supplied was ample in quantity. The coffee was flavoursome and in a decent sized mug.The cost of £4.50 each was, in my opinion, very competitive with other, similar establishments, and represented good value for money. The café was well laid out with plenty of room between tables. However, although we visited at a quiet time on this occasion, and service was fairly quick, I would point out that at really busy times be prepared to have to queue for quite a long time.As with a lot of Grade I Listed buildings, there is a limit to the amount of alterations to the building which can be made. Consequently, some visitors may find the toilets rather antiquated and few in number, resulting in long queues again at peak periods. If I dare mention this - the gentlemen's lavatory bowl is a 'Motolite', which is so ancient I can't even find a mention of it on Wikipedia!

Seems beautiful from the outside, but it's very much a hostel in a cramped old building. It does the job, as the beds were good, but the shared bathroom was not a good experience. Pretty sure the person that checked us in was drunk/high af.
