10 of us ate in on Halloween. Fantastic fish and chips and superb service. Nice to see gravy has made it to the South West! Will be back next time we are in Devon.

The hake in garlic and butter was very nice. Battered cod good too - and good service and price. Very pleased

Good "sit-down" experience at a local "chippy". Standard menu of more fish than usual and then a changing selection of additional fish, eg monkfish, rock, skate. And they don't just fry fish. Personally I prefer "crispier/fluffy" chips so I went with the salad option. Range of drinks and desserts. Very pleasant staff who work hard at many different tasks.

We ordered the monk fish and prawn curry with rice, a cod roe and chips amd 2 portions of scallops for collection. We had to wait 15mins after our collection time and we were missing the rice. Customer service was pretty poor but kind of understandable as they were very busy. The scallops were poor considering they cost £10. Quite small and just had some lettuce chucked in with them, however they were cooked very nicely. The monk fish curry was absolutely unreal though! The best curry I've ever had. Incredibly flavourful and a really decent portion size.

Arrived for Fish & Chips takeaway but ended up eating in when we spotted the Monkfish & King Prawn Curry and homemade Fish Pie ! Both were fantastic - right choice made !! Staff were very friendly and super helpful. We’ll certainly be back next time we’re in Paignton. Highly recommend.

Phoned the order in and still had to ask for it to be ready, got home and no fish in the order, absolutely offal response over the phone form some one that has no idea how to to after local people

Tonight’s fish and chips were amazing. Two lovely thick chunky pieces of fish absolutely delicious.

Found this place just by chance and only stopped because there was parking opposite. Fantastic fish n chips and by far the best light batter we have ever tasted. Great guys and great food. Hope all continues to go well for them

The best fish & chips takeaway I have ever eaten in. We were presented with a wide choice of fresh local fish. The manager was amazing, and we met a few interesting people whilst having a meal in The London Fryer. If you are in Paignton and love fish, you must visit this place.

Absolutely fantastic fish and chips and even more is the best ever gluten free fish and chips everything tasted so good and fresh. Its very hard to ever get nice GF fish and chips and we hav been to many holiday places around the country and this is by far beating everyone. The staff are also so friendly and helpful....big thank you

This place was recommended and even though there was another chippy with a higher customer score we decided to try the London Tavern. The fish was lovely, really tasty and the chips were good. The fish came in a handy box which helped as we were eating in the car!

Had the cod dinner, eating in the restaurant. Weirdly sweet mushy peas, but otherwise very good fish, chips, and service.

I ordered 8 chicken nuggets a lady dropped one on the floor gave me the food with only 7 nuggets and didn’t say anything I also ordered a sausage chips and cheese meal deal NO cheese on there when I phoned up to complain they had me waiting for 2 minutes for some stupid thing on the automated message and they then hung up on me after telling them what happened not happy at all DO NOT RECOMMEND 😡

We had Cod and chips delivered today a first for us. The delivery was on time and the food was pipping hot. Nice piece of fish and plenty of chips for the both of us. We will be having a delivery again in the very near future.

Came here for food. Outstanding!! Just under £30 for 3 adult meals, 1 child's meal and drinks. Plenty of food, the fish was massive and falling apart as it was so fresh. The burger was big and delicious. Chips were so tasty. Would 100% recommend!

The worst food ever tonight, and not the first time, but you give it another try to see if it was a one off The London Fryer Preston Paignton This is the ' LARGE 'cod you now get for £6.50.... no chips just the fish, 6 miles travelled and really didn't fancy a row after i seen this when i got home !

This was not great. I ordered a king cod but it was served in two different pieces. To be honest. I don’t mind that. However. One piece of cod was so stale it was rather unpleasant to eat. It had been standing there for a while. The other piece of cod was fresh but the batter was unremarkable and the cod was just mushy. The chips were excellent as was the homemade tartare sauce. Curry sauce was ok. So. I think on a good day this could be a really good chippy. But it wasn’t on the day i visited. I have gone to pierpoint and hanbury’s and saltwater numerous times and not on their worst day were they as dissapointing as this.

More than just a chippy ... much more ! An imaginative menu ... as well as all the usual things they vary the specials depending on what they can get fresh locally. Extremely good food at reasonable prices and a sit-in restaurant served by nice people ... what more could you ask for ?

We've always loved this place, but life being life, ment we haven't been in a while.. So I was so happy when we decided to treat ourselves a go there... Happiness not long lived.. We ordered, 1/4 pound mega, fish and chips, sausage and chips..3 drinks... Young girl serving was lovely... but the food... The mega was a basic cheese burger, no relish, no coleslaw, no sauce no onions, nothing, and the burger it's self very tasteless... Their mega use to be amazing, not now... Fish was again tasteless, soggy, and chips under cooked... Sausage same... We took it home to eat...when we got home we then also found out we had no drinks... Normally I would have recommended this place..but not know.. absolutely awful...

It's not a luxury restaurant. But very delicious fish dishes at a low price. Very friendly staff. Everything is freshly prepared.

We regularly order from this fryer as we have always enjoyed the quality of the fish and chips. However last night we ordered a takeaway and we were minus one portion of chips. We phoned up and we were asked if we wanted them ?? Of course we said so they said they would deliver them. Three quarters of an hour later after everyone had finished their meal they still had not been received. I phoned up again only to be told that a note had been left on the front desk. I protested that it was not good enough and that all meals had been eaten and the young lad apologised and said that we shouldn't order on a Tuesday or a Wednesday as the staff are young and only 3 on! The chips eventually came. Not impressed as we have always bought our fish and chips from here. Our orders are often incorrect. Does no-one check them?? Am sorry I have had to write this but improvements need to be made.

Excellent takeaway (saw diners have great table service too). Customer service was lovely. It seemed like the team had really efficient communication which meant we didn't wait long for food at all. Haddock was freshly fried and delicious. Mushy peas were sweet and green rather than the usual salty grey pot you get elsewhere. Large chips were a super portion for 2 adults and a child to share!

Visited at the air show.. a manic time.. so we were a little concerned about a wait, but we needn’t have been.. served quickly, friendly staff, food ready and oh so tasty!

In my opinion this is the best chippy in the area.

Best fish and chips ! In a long time and the resturant so friendly ! Couldn’t do enough for you toilets spotless ! Fish plentiful I had a child’s portion and struggled to eat it all after a long Walk across the beach a prefect pit stop !

Any opportunity for a visit to our favourite fish and chip shop. Today was a double birthday chippy tea down at our beach hut - all 11 of us. Lovely warm day so was perfect for a walk to see Roy churning out great grub. Most of us had the OAP fish and chips which was just right for late afternoon and a few drinks. Sausage and cheesey chips appeared too - nice strong cheese. All perfectly cooked and nothing for the seagulls. As always absolutely brilliant.

Once again we had a delicious, hot, fish and chip meal at this establishment. My wife and I both had the haddock, catch of the day meal , and the fish was the best I’ve tasted , for a while. Chips , mushy peas , everything absolutely amazing. The two guys running the place today were so friendly. Would definitely recommend visiting.

The London Fryer has been an absolute staple for locals for what seems decades. I've never had a bad piece of fish from here. Portion sizes are good and there is a reason there is often a massive queue. The one thing that let's in down in my opinion is their style of chips, they are undercooked for my taste and I personally believe they are so busy they don't cook them for long enough as they are so desperate to get the next batch in. As a family we now get fish from here and cook chips at home or grab chips from elsewhere.

Had takeaway delivered from here and was not impressed at all. The fish tasted like it had been kept warm for ages and was chewy, as was the batter around it. Chips weren't that great either. I've had chips from here from the shop to takeaway in the past too, and I have to say I'm not that impressed given the prices and how they advertise themselves. There are much better fish and chips to be had across the bay.

Awful! This place used to be so good but not anymore. Nothing cooked to order like it used to be. Soggy, dripping in oil chips. Dry, overcooked fish. This was our go to chippy when we were down this way but it looks like we will have to find another. Shame!

Disappointed. Ordered a family special online and wanted curry sauce and mushy peas, but the site is confusing. The meal comes with sides, but on selection it says NO Mushy Peas, so didnt select it - after all I want them. Needless to say I paid £28 for 2 Fish n Chips and a drink! I tried to call, but answer on the phone, there is no email address that I could find and you can't seem to send a message. Having had numerous meals in the past, I put my frustrations down to experience..... however, placed another order today. Chicken burger, no salad, cheese and mayo plus a burger, salad, cheese and mayo. What turned up? A chicken burger with a stack of salad, and a burger without. Frustration again, it's not what we asked for. Again can't email, phone rings out, so that's why I have reviewed. I shalln't be going there again, I'm not sure what has changed - it's not good.

Delicious fish, I ate monkfish. My husband ate fish and chips. Delicious! I recommend it to fish lovers.

I ordered a King Cod and Chips, with mushy peas, to be delivered. Food was on time, nothing really wrong with it, but just plain average for me. Food was luke warm, at best, the cod had quite a thick batter on it and the chips were average. Mushy peas were disappointing, tasted burnt. For the best part of £18, I did not feel personally it was great value for money.

Feb24 - Another great meal, this time we were fortunate to be visit with Fish skewers on the menu. Deliciously cooked in a tasty sauce and great service and friendliness from all. Many thanks. Dec23 - We did indeed return and the experience was just as brilliant as before. This time tried the house Monkfish and Prawn curry. It was phenomenal. I challenge anyone to show me where else you can get such superb quality of fresh fish, served in a welcoming atmosphere at such good value. Previous Review in Sept 23. This is how restaurants should be. Friendly, knowledgable chefs cooking ultra fresh fish direct from Paignton & Brixham. Reasonably priced, filling portions and a lovely atmosphere. Can't wait to return!

Gotta say, Sean is the best fish and chip man going. Fish and chips was ace, and he makes the absolute best vodka slushes. We had a proper laugh waiting for our food. Thank you Sean 🤗

I discovered TLF whilst on a walk today exploring Paignton and Preston. Attracted by how busy on a Wednesday at 130, had to be a good sign! Managed to grab last table to eat in. Takeaway was queuing all the time. Attentive service, perfectly cooked Haddock in very light batter and proper chips. Will visit again when walking 🙂

Ordered a donner kebab, wasn't the nicest kebab meat tasted cheap , not in a pitta bread or wrap was in a baguette which was soggy the salad was rubbish had a couple of mouthfuls and chucked it in the bin .. will not use again, very disappointed 😞

Good fish and chips at reasonable prices. The fish came out crispy and cooked well. The chips were a little undercooked for my tastes, but nothing too serious. The tartar sauce was really nice, and the curry sauce was OK too. Service was fairly quick.

Unfortunately not very good. Order was missing an item (pot of curry sauce) which I can get over as it was busy and people make mistakes. However whether busy or not it is unacceptable that the fish had soggy batter, was luke warm at best (chips as well) and was clearly undercooked. Must do better.

Called and was told our order was out on delivery...25 minutes called again. Order was delivered and cold food I'm sure it would be lovely if hot... So disappointed. All went in the bin

Been using this place regularly for over 10 years, and place has gone to sh-t! Had an order a month ago which was missing a couple bits but let it slide. My order yesterday was missing an item, so I called and had to explain to 3 different people I was missing some of my order. They said I can come collect it after already paying for delivery. Meaning by the time I get back the rest of my food would be cold. So I asked for a refund which was refused! The fish delivered was a joke soggy batter which just feel off the soft mushy so called Cod. They took my details and said a manager would call, and guess what no call. So now will contact my card supplier for my refund on the whole order as they have breached the contract. This place used to be good, but now please avoid. Now its over priced and poor poor quality. The way the fish was soggy they must have got it from Icelands!

My wife and I are occasional visitors to this venue, we usually have the OAP special, which is more than ample for our appetites, the food is always piping hot and delicious, and the staff are always friendly, we highly recommend this restaurant, Bob and Glynis

Visited twice on my recent holiday to Paignton. Both times the food was delicious. Fresh fish caught daily, Hake and halibut were caught that day and tasted amazing

We ordered 3 vegan pea fritters and chips and 1 fish deal ( with peas and a can of drink) l asked for 2 Malibu slushies and 1 non alcoholic slushy and a can of coke. We got charged for 1 slushy more than we ordered. There was no alcohol in the 2 slushies. No can of drunk or mushy peas were given. Appalling service, no apologies. We weren’t the only customers querying the orders. Very disappointed

Best chippy in paignton.the evening staff were not the best,girl kept running her hands through her hair whilst serving and was not hygienic.daytime staff are best cause I think they are the owners.

Visiting from Australia we found The London Fryer - delicious fish and chips, great service and relaxed atmosphere.

Best damn fish I've ever had, and I had quite a few. It was fresh, beautifully prepared, chips were excellent, mushy peas out of this world, tartar sauce to die for! The customer service was exceptional - Neil took our experience to another level, that's how you should interact with your customers! Atmosphere on spot, I basically could just move to this place <3 Definitely not the last time here! And to all them one stars... Remember, what you give is what you get ;)
