We haven’t been to The Drum Inn for a while due to bad experiences. However, we heard there was a new manager so thought we would try. Took my elderly parents (and dog) for lunch yesterday. We were very pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and professional with particular care taken over my husband’s shellfish allergy. We had the Mac & cheese with bacon, the Aubergine gratin, Fish finger sandwich and Fish & chips. All absolutely delicious and well presented. Dog enjoyed her free treats too. So happy to have our local pub back.

At 79 years of age, the roast dinner was without doubt ,one of the best roast in a restaurant I have experienced in all my years. So compliments to Tony the chef and our waitress Sarah whom was lovely and helpful. Unfortunately I do not live in or nearby, so this was a one off. I recommend anybody on holiday in Devon to book a place here.

I had a fabulous experience at the Drum from the moment I was greeted at the bar to leaving after a superb meal and the guest ale was on great form as well. Both Ellie who served me my meal and Emma who helped sit me down and provided my first drink were really helpful and positive. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my couple of hours relaxing in the magnificent setting overlooking the gardens and village. Thank you to the team at the Drum.

The outside gardens were beautiful, and the building was amazing. Not much atmosphere inside nice music would have been nice, my chips wasn't very warm, fish was nice, my husband and sister in law had hunters chicken, never had it with breadcrumbs, over cooked hard to cut.the meal wasn't worth what we paid. I'm so sorry for rating low!! I give full marks for excellent, this wasn't.

I went on 26th June with my brother and his wife who were on holiday from Australia. Firstly it took ages to book in at the bar, we were taken to our table and sat on the lovely looking chairs only to find when we sat our chairs sank so much our chins almost rested on the table. We waited a while to order our drinks and they in turn took a while to arrive. We ordered our meals..pizza, Hunters chicken and a burger..the pizza was on a cold plate uncut no garnish and looked like it was for a child..my hunter's chicken was breaded and burnt so much I couldn't cut into it and soggy in the middle, garnished with what looked like half a bag of warm lettuce leaves and a few chips...the burger was passable but the fries were all stuck together as if frozen together and thrown in the fryer, my sil ate hers as she was hungry after waiting 50 mins. My brother and i needless to say didnt. We complained to the waitress (no fault of hers) and was offered free desserts which we refused and my brother asked to speak to the manager. We made our complaint and was eventually given a refund. I have been to The Drum many times and at busier times and not had a meal as bad as this. The pizza had nine pieces of pepperoni and my brother was given a steak knife to cut it and it was priced at just over £15!

Brilliant setting and lovely pub but the food and service is a huge disappointment. The portions are far too small and unacceptable for the high prices charged. We hadn't been in for years because of the small portions but decided to give it another go only to find small portions yet again. Needless to say I can't recommend and won't be rushing back any time soon if ever. The food and service is out of sync with the lovely setting. An overhaul is needed urgently or you will continue loosing customers and locals like us. We would have returned if the food and service was good but we won't pay such high prises for so little on our plate. Customers will only return if they enjoy their food, if the portions are good, and if the service is good. Time for an urgent rethink.

Booked a party of 19 on 17th June. Staff were brilliant barman was brilliant. I pre ordered the vegetarian burger, what I got was a VEGAN burger no cheese, the burger was breaded which means dry as hell, a dry bun which I suspect was frozen, a lettus leaf fries and a bit of sauce. Why not use Linda McCartney motzerally burgers or any that are not breaded. The macaroni cheese was definitely frozen or refrigerated and microwaved, dry no fresh cheese on top a bit of garlic bread, extra side of beef was a spoonful. Most people wasn't impressed and I rate it slightly better than Wetherspoons. We did ask for mayonnaise to combat the dry food but both bottles were empty. Anyway some had dessert or pudding as in menu usual standard deserts for a pub, personally I think all the sauces, glasses and such should be cleard before even asking us for deserts. Drinks are probably the most expensive in Torbay and can't see any justification, £10.50 for wine. Food presentation was not the best, I paid dor my 5 of us which was £160, plus drinks. As they charge high prices and as a decorator I couldn't help notice how disgusting the windows are as you walk in, peeling and bare wood and someone who previously tried to paint them has painted half the glass, probably got staff to paint them to save money. I will stay with going to Babbacombe inn

Popped in on the off chance on Sunday whilst out for a walk with my wife. Hadn’t booked a table but approached the bar and a young gentleman found us a table. Nothing ever seems to much for the staff at The Drum. This occasion we didn’t have our dog but normally when we do the staff are fantastic with him. On being seated we were made aware of an issue in the kitchen but that they had all roasts available and we were more than happy with this offering. At the time of our visit I did see one couple giving the food runner a hard time due to the kitchen issue but these things happen and they should remember we are all human. Well done team drum on overcoming this issue and still offering the fantastic service you always give.

I had a very sad chicken and grain salad for 17.75, basically lacking in the ingredients advertised and chicken like a rubber tyre. My husband's spicy pepperoni pizza was nothing special for 15 quid. Drinks were good and staff were nice, although it wasn't exactly a warm welcome, they didn't give us the time to feel valued. They also refused to scan my loyalty card because I had already paid?! Location of The Drum is spectacular, beautiful surroundings & views. But the Sunday roast left me more than a little disappointed. Had the trio of roasts, quite small portions, especially the pork.... gone in 2 bites.... The roast potatoes portion was small & needed a chisel & saw to cut through them, which wasn't great.... The parsnips & broccoli were lovely Gravy, a tad too salty for my liking. One of our party was missing their Yorkshire, I didn't get my crackling & they came to check on the table when 2 out of the 5 were finished. Overall was not good, but would possibly go back for a drink in the beer garden Overpriced for what it is

I ordered a ploughman’s, it’s been years since I had one in a pub, and it will be the last. Their idea of a ploughman’s consisted of, one dried up sausage roll, a slice of cheese the size of a craft triangle, an apple cut into four and a tiny slice of bread. I was furious, and they charged me nearly £14 for it. I ate the slice of cheese and left the rest. As a local and a regular at Cockington, I will not be going into the Drum eve4 again. I really did feel I had been ripped off. Give the Drum a wide birth for food, your better off going to the weavers cottage or the old school house in Cockington, a5 least the foods good and you won’t get robbed.

Dreadful! We were disgusted with our food when it arrived. My husband had a ploughman’s lunch, which when it arrived consisted of a over cooked, dry sausage roll, a slither of cheese slightly larger than a Kraft dairy Lea triangle,an apple and a few leaves. I faired marginally better, when I ordered a macaroni cheese which was microwaved to death, so obviously dry as a bone. We were given hard bread, but no butter and an empty bottle of mayonnaise to help with the lack of flavour. Needless to say, we will never be returning! Forgot to mention the exorbitant prices, talk about being ripped off!
