Stunning pub in the middle of nowhere, with wonderful food, huge outdoor seating area to soak in the sun and a unique water station for dogs called ‘Scooby Brew’. The mains (beef rib bourguignon and slow-cooked pork belly) were very tasty and filling, but there was just enough room for a delicious mango & passion fruit pavlova dessert. The staff were friendly, accommodating and looked after us, absolutely no problem there. The pub really is a hidden gem with plenty of beautiful walks around, definitely worth exploring after a lovely meal!

We always enjoy our visit here and it's our restaurant of choice for special occasions. We usually go at lunchtime on Sundays but next time we are going to go on a Saturday evening. There are also lots of tables outside if you wish. That well behaved dogs are welcome is a plus for us and many people brought theirs on Sunday. You must tell them when booking as there are 2 special rooms for people with dogs but these are very nice and comfortable.

We visited for our anniversary, having fond memories of our wedding meal here two years ago. Unfortunately, the experience this time was really disappointing. My wife and I had a roast each — both were lukewarm and poor quality, and even the Pepsi tasted watered down. Our kids had a pizza and sausage & chips, which were also underwhelming (the £8.50 pizza looked like tomato purée and cheese on dough; the sausages were very low quality). We made a 50-minute journey each way from Plymouth and paid £68 in total. For that price, we expected much better. I emailed to give feedback via the website but never even received an acknowledgment. Disappointing all round — sadly, we won’t be returning which is a shame as the pub was a special place for us.

Food potions were crazy small. Roast beef was so raw that a normal knife couldn't cut it. we changed tables because the sun went behind the building and it got cold and my partner went to the bar to inform them. The barman rolled his eyes and was really quite rude. Tables outside were piled with glasses and plates ect for almost an hour before we ordered food. It wasn't that busy inside. Maybe the manager who was walking around with his nose in the air could have walked outside and done some work. There was no hand soap in any of the dispensers in both male and female toilets. The drum has fallen far from it's old reputation. Serves food like its posh but felt more like a run down wetherspoon. Very sad.

Visited at the weekend and would highly recommend. Beautiful surroundings, lovely atmosphere inside and excellent food. What was most impressive was the friendliness of the staff. They were so welcoming. We left my son's retainer on the table, which was wrapped in a napkin. It would cost me £200 to replace and the orthodontist would not have been happy! I rang the pub when we arrived home (no queues, got straight through). When I got there, the staff were all so sympathetic, but especially Josh (such a gentleman), who went out of his way to help me. We both put gloves on and rifled through 2 big bin bags of rubbish and Josh found the retainer) I kept telling him he didn't have to help as it wasn't the nicest of jobs - but he insisted. Having people like that makes all the difference. Thanks guys (I scrubbed and sterilised the retainer as soon as I got home!!!)

We had a terrible experience at this pub, and I’m writing this review to warn others. The service from the moment we arrived was dreadful. A young man with dark hair looked at me and asked, “Are you okay?” I politely informed him that we had a table for two and then he said it’s table over there and it’s also bar service. While that was fair enough, the experience at the bar was rude and unpleasant. A heavy-set man with dark hair, who I can only assume was the possible manager or adviser, approached us and was very blunt and unfriendly. To make matters worse, when we received our Sunday dinner, it was dropped on the table and the waiter ran off. I was left without cutlery and had to find my own on another table, which was shocking. To add insult to injury, when we left the pub, the same heavy-set man who had served us at the bar ignored us as we bid him farewell. Despite the terrible service, we enjoyed the pub and the atmosphere. However, the staff’s behavior ruined the entire experience for us. If the pub is understaffed, that’s understandable, but it’s not acceptable to be rude to everyone. We will never return to this pub, even though we are locals. It’s a real shame.

We visited The Drum on New Year’s Eve lunchtime. Four of us wanted a family get together during the day, before the madness of New Year kicked in. I have to admit it wasn’t our first choice, purely because we have been to another restaurant for the past 3 New Year lunchtime but this year it was closed. I was so pleased we went to The Drum. On walking in, the decor and ambience was very warm and welcoming. It was quite busy so we were glad to have booked. We were seated up the stairs off the main restaurant which was very nice. Our waitress Keira was very friendly. 3 of us started with the pate with bramble chutney. Very delicious with a nice amount of bread. Our mains were served very promptly. I had the fishcakes which was not too filling after having a starter and quite delicious. My husband had the venison pie with chunky chips which he said was the best he had tasted. The lasagne and signature burger was also chosen and deemed to be lovely. Desserts all round of brownie, lemon tart and apple and mincemeat crumble were all very well received. All the food arrived promptly and piping hot, the staff were all smiles and chatty, the atmosphere was very cosy and festive, the drinks were flowing. All this in a fairytale location. Well done to all the staff of The Drum. It was a perfect lunchtime for me. My husband doesn’t have a great appetite but it was the most I’ve seen him eat at lunchtime for a long time. Can’t wait to visit again soon.

We’ve been wanting to come over the Christmas period for years so had high hopes, sadly the whole experience was a disappointment. There were 8 of us so we thought it was easier to order via the app but as some items from the festive menu weren’t showing we ordered those from the bar, assuming that would work as all the same table number. Anyway that resulted in half the meals coming 30 minutes before the other half! When the food did come it was small for the price and disappointing, especially the roast turkey. We then had to chase up our puddings twice (it took 20 mins for two scoops of ice cream) and ended up being in there for around three hours in total, with only half the party having deserts as we didn’t want to give them any more money!! We did complain about the whole experience but were simply told it was our fault for ordering via the app as well as at the bar, which in hindsight was a mistake as they clearly don’t sort out the cooking order by table number. It’s lovely inside but sadly we won’t be returning as we spent over £200 for a disappointing meal and it ruined our family Christmas gathering.

We were regulars in here until headoffice changed everything. Wish headoffice would stop messing with menus. Where have all the hearty meals gone? Everything we liked has been taken from the menu. Most things on the menu are in breadcrumbs, or quick easy food to make. Hunters chicken shouldn’t be in a Schnitzel, and pepperonis should be always on a pizza in a pub. Bring back the Sweet potato fries, bring back pepperoni on pizza, Bring back prawn and crayfish linguine, Bring back rib of beef, pork belly and all the other hearty meals. This is a pub, not a 5 start Michelin restaurant that Head office are trying to make it be. We want our local pub grub back and not process foods. It would be nice if beef/chicken stew, chilli or shepherds pie was on the menu too.

Second time visiting The Drum now, 1st time was an evening meal (Starter and Main) and today was a Sunday Lunch meal (Main and Dessert) Service on both occasions was incredible and purely by chance we had Emily both times. She was polite, friendly, welcoming and very professional. My other half works in hospitality himself and really appreciated the care she showed us. The food was delicious and served within a reasonable time frame, The Drum was comfortably busy and nothing felt rushed. The interior is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere was very autumnal and cosy. Todays visit we both had the Sunday Trio (Beef, Turkey and Pork) and it just melted in the mouth. We weren't originally planning on desserts but after looking it was hard to resist! Amazing value for money too and downloading the app gave us the incentive to return as we were offered a £10.00 off voucher. Already looking forward to our future visits with you all.

We were let down 3 hours ahead of our booking time by a nearby restaurant due to my friend having a shellfish allergy. The Drum team were great handling it & had suggested she download an app which would tell her exactly what she could/couldn’t eat. They talked us through how the food was prepared, and it even arrived with little flags on to acknowledge that food was hers & safe.
