Don't have there Sunday lunch as a local its awful u can get better food just down the road the bucheener or even in a local cafe to charge 14.95 in shocking to have the logo eat like a royal is an insult. Do not eat here or be disappointed with food and the service they provide its a place well worth avoiding. They also have too many staff members talking rather than doing their jobs. I hated the place. The quiz night All taken too seriously the bar snd service is very slow. The hotel at the royal nothing to offer customers bit dom and glem and half the staff as dead. I have never seen such a poorly ran hotel and staff that don't care about the customers buy care about lineling there own pockets with the money the hotel makes to pay their wages. I'm sorry the truth hurts but someone has to say something for your staff to change spending 15mins to talk to one customer is over the top. I think this place need some sort of control and it works from the top down.

I never write reviews however I really want to warn others that are looking to eat here. It was the WORST carvery I have ever had in my entire life. I genuinely would have to think twice about giving it to my dog. The beef looked like a black door mat, the pork was also EXTREMELY dry and the vegetables tasted like they’d been cooked on a heated argument. Absolutely dreadful, PLEASE do not waste your money on this place and go elsewhere. You will regret it and it will ruin your afternoon. I honestly would have rather eaten a microwave roast dinner from the local corner shop (No joke). I am convinced that the good reviews are paid for because any human being would never compliment this absolute shamble of a ‘Carvery Restaurant’.

The Royal Hotel and Carvery in Babbacombe is quite simply a fantastic place to both stay at and eat in. Situated on the beautiful coastline of the Babbacombe downs, its decor and feel to the place certainly match the outstanding views from the outside tables. I regularly visit the area and always go to the Royal for their extra special Sunday carvery without fail. The staff are exemplary and offer the warmest of welcomes which is always a good start. The carvery is just out of this world and at a very competitive price too! With a variety of choices, from the freshly cooked meats on offer to the perfect selection of veg and all the trimmings, you will not be disappointed. Portion sizes are very generous with the meat carved by a friendly and professional chef. Please look at the picture to see just how good this carvery is! Drinks are reasonably priced and the waiting staff have no issue in serving to your table. If you have room for dessert I would highly recommend the mango cheesecake! The Royal, whilst being situated in a seaside town, is your perfect home from home all year round whilst also feeling like you are on holiday abroad. I highly recommend booking a room at The Royal for a clean, spacious and comfy stay.

Being served by a really rude waitress rolling her eyes. The food was disgusting and the worst carvery I have ever had. When we went to pay the girl on the till she had ginger hair was so rude. The rest of the family paid for what food they had separately and my mother mentioned the meat was tough and a man with a Liverpudlian accent came marching over calling my mother a liar. So my mother said she won’t be back and all he kept saying was Whatever and as my family walked out he told my mum to shut up. It’s disgraceful my mum is blind and yet they just didn’t care one iota. Came here for the quiz on Wednesday and a few drinks with my family. The quiz itself was really really good and the guy hosting it was lovely and so friendly! Unfortunately the young girl with the red hair behind the bar wasn’t entirely friendly and seemed to be lacking proper training (she might have just been having a bad day or something but it didn’t seem to be too busy or anything when we were there). I asked for a macchiato and she said she couldn’t do it, which was fine as it may not have been on the till, so I settled for a cappuccino and a glass of water but she forgot my water and started serving someone else. This was still okay but whilst I was waiting for my water from the other barman, all I could hear about from her was the fact that she was complaining a lot about the amount of hot chocolates she had to make and she seemed to be quite frustrated by this. I completely understand the frustration of this as I’ve worked behind a bar for 5 years now and hot drinks are quite annoying but it did seem a bit unprofessional on her part. I didn’t particularly mind any of this but when my dad (who is one of the nicest people on the planet) went back to ask for some more sugars she quite abruptly told him she was busy serving someone else. None of this is a major concern as she was quite young and maybe a bit new to hospitality but it made my poor dad feel quite unwelcome. I don’t mean to sound harsh as other than that she did a good job serving and the coffee she made me was lovely! The biscuits as well were delicious! I completely get that getting a sudden rush of quiz goers heading to the bar and all ordering hot drinks can be quite annoying, but as a future reference, other patrons might not like to hear so many exasperations from the staff so unfortunately hospitality workers are expected to keep a patient smile no matter what. If the young lady is reading this as well, I’m so sorry! As she seemed really nice other than that, I just think it was worth mentioning

The carvery I wouldn't come back for nor would I pick winning the carvery at any quiz. The food is passable not brilliant. I've found a place that is brilliant but im keeping that too myself. We ate in the restaurant during a busy Sunday carvery. Even though we hadn’t booked a table, one was immediately found for us, which they were happy for us to use for two hours prior to the next reservation; plenty of time to enjoy our meal. Most of the waiting staff were young, but despite their age, were attentive, professional and friendly. The food was excellent with an amazing selection of vegetable choices (I think at least eleven including the three different types of potato dishes) plus four roast meat joints to mix and match from. I know they serve their carvery on other days of the week when I assume the choice might be reduced a little (I could be wrong about that, but I don’t want anyone to be disappointed if the choice is not quite so huge!). The owner/management team including the head chef, I believe, were excellent and extremely kind to assist me as I had my 91 year old mother in a wheelchair with me…..and that sometimes proves a challenge! Unfortunately, I live quite close and would happily go every Sunday, however my waistline and budget would suffer. All in all, an absolutely delightful experience.

Unfortunately the other barmaid, lady with the glasses and plaited hair (pub managers partner) was unaccomadating, reluctant to serve people and unbelievablely rude to anyone who asked for a drink. Pretty good. Beef sandwich would prefer warmed up rather than cold straight from the fridge...just a personal preference

Carvery cold and tasteless. Absolute yuk!! Sorry no positives for the food. I've yet to find a good meal in the entire Torbay area. Passing touristy trade seems a good reason to serve poor food.

Visited for pint and snack after 14 years. It just reminded me that I worked there with Head Chef who steamed button mushrooms in the rational steamer and next he was blanching them in cold water after. I could not believe that someone could reach such a low level of cooking skills being in charge of the busy business. It put me off from this place for over a decade...

Stopped off for a quick drink while out and about, lovely beer and a very nice view over the English Channel.

Weather was poor so using the beer garden was not an option, a shame as I'm sure the views are lovely. Drinks and service where fine

Met here with a group of friends for a few drinks and what a fantastic little pub with a lovely atmosphere. Very welcoming and really friendly locals. Staff are very attentive and the service is excellent. Please ignore the previous review…I think maybe they were having a bad day!!!

We visited Saturday night for the live entertainment and it was fab! The atmosphere was lovely, the decoration of the pub gives a very warm welcoming. Despite being very busy the bar staff very quick and efficient. Upstairs seating over looking the stage was perfect. Lovely and clean environment. The band and the dj were great. Would definitely recommend.

The Drum inn was a very quaint place set in an oldy worldy village. It was stepping back in time. A really nice experience. The beef brisket sandwich was tasty

ANPR car park with £100 fine. We particularly liked the half finished joist installation completed with exposed hangars, ruining what would have been an ok 70's period ceiling piece. Certainly not what I expected looking at the high Tripadvisor rating. Is this really a good place to go in Torquay? We had a quick pint and then left. Complete dump. We certainly didn't want to eat there looking at the state of the decor and the half finished roof. Either tear it down or finish it properly! You really need to up your game.
