My partner and I attended the New Year's Eve bash at The Spinning Wheel on Tuesday. The atmosphere was great, bar service really quick. We had a great time overall but had a disappointing encounter when my partner and I entered the ladies toilets and we were told by a security guard that my partner couldn't be in there. It was worded very badly and felt very uncomfortable. I informed the security guard that my partner's pronouns are she/her and was met with "how was I supposed to know with the beard?". There were people dressed up in different ways so I do get the initial confusion but this should have been the end of it. Unfortunately it was not. Therefore she had to use the male bathroom which she was not comfortable with. She should have been able to use the bathroom that she was most comfortable using. I was with her to support her so anyone already inside could have seen that's all she was there for. My partner and I get that not everyone understands or is sympathetic to gender differences but maybe we should be past the point of questioning when anyone is using a certain bathroom. People just need piss.

What a lovely place. We went in for a drink and everyone so lovely and the whole place was just so warm and welcoming. We liked it so much we spent new yrs eve in there and what a night. One of the best nights I had in such a long time. The staff were amazing and were all in fancy dress and they sure know how to throw a new eves party.. It was just brilliant.we loved it so much we are planning to go bk for the next new yr eve. We'll done to all the staff. We loved it.

Very up and down - if there's a good band on the atmosphere is great, but on other days it can be dead with foul-mouthed regulars making it very unwelcoming. I have dropped it another star as they occasionally serve up cloudy end-of-barrel ale without seeming to notice. Having said that, I travel here frequently rather than use my local Torquay pubs.

Very dog friendly and were extremely welcoming. Food was very nice and reasonably priced. Service was spot on. Would definitely recommend.

Food was good 👍 I was not happy was told when we booked it that cravery would be on because it was Sunday. When we got there they said no cravery on which was sad because I was looking forward to have cravery too. Plus there's was big table all went through the main meal, all come out in two or three a time. Nannie meal ended up being cold which was a wrap and chips however understand the wrap being cold but chips being luke warm. which should come first, slow service. Asked where the rest our food was coming because it was that slow. Then went downstairs to see if there was desert menu and staff was rude, just said ice cream. Ask another member of staff he explained the favourite of ice cream which was a bit better. You think they would have more choose than just ice cream especially this time of the year. We won't be going back again sorry.

The only decent late night venue in town! The worst DJ in the world, I don't think he likes music.Food acceptable.

Just popped in for a pint nice old pub with entertainment at weekends nice friendly staff with a good selection of drinks and food, didn't have any food but will do when go back again 👍

Stayed in Paignton this weekend with my partner. Had a few drinks here and also a meal over a couple of days. Lovely beer, lovely food, great service and atmosphere. Regular live music was a plus too and was good fun.

Food was nice, stayed for the evening and enjoyed the band that were on. Always enjoy coming to this pub, always go here when I’m over in Paignton

From the time of booking through to the end of the night if my 50th party, the service was absolutely brilliant. Tom and his team were fantastic. The free buffet food was great quality and there was plenty for all of my guests. We had the upstairs until 10, it's got beautiful lights up so felt like a party atmosphere and we didn't even have to decorate. A private bar, and barman. Live music to round the night off! A special thank you to Damien for being a great barman. Thanks Tom and team.

Cosy place . Fire place pool table . Only thing was there is no desserts only ice cream. Was wanting a dessert.

Overpriced, nearly £10 for a small wine and tiniest coke, no atmosphere, bored uninterested staff, very rowdy later in evening, a place to avoid.

Quiet Thursday night with some C&W music burbling in the background , staff were friendly and the beer was good. Thank you. :-)

Large pub but does not seem so. Some Atmosphere. Had home made cottage pie which I enjoyed and non alcoholic drink to accompany it. Service was a little slow.

We visited Saturday night for the live entertainment and it was fab! The atmosphere was lovely, the decoration of the pub gives a very warm welcoming. Despite being very busy the bar staff very quick and efficient. Upstairs seating over looking the stage was perfect. Lovely and clean environment. The band and the dj were great. Would definitely recommend.

Scrumptious Sunday lunch- fabulous choice of vegetables, yummy roast parsnips & potatoes & the roast beef was delicious. Staff friendly & welcoming.

Nice spot on the seafront with plenty of covered outdoor seating. Decent selection of drinks at reasonable prices and a decent selection on the menu, but we didn't eat as we had a table booked elsewhere. They have music at weekend evenings and there is a small well kept play are outside to keep the little ones occupied should you need it.

Live Music here is awesome, a mix of genres to suite all.

Very unusual to find such a wonderful old building so full of character and history, good beer, friendly staff and nice food, but for me it’s the building that does it, hopefully it won’t get ‘refurbished’ and turned into another characterless craphole!

Came for lunch earlier today. First impressions, nice garden area, pleasant looking inside. At the bar though , the shelves where the glasses are kept need a clean, it has a smell about it, which only another landlord would recognise. The food itself was very good, and extremley cheap. The barstaff were friendly . It allows dogs inside which is a bonus. The obvious , regular customers look like they have a few stories to tell as well !

Poor unfriendly service, and beer was.average at best...there is better places to drink

What a great night last night. New band 'Mammoth's' debut performance at the Spinning wheel was amazing. Extremely talented as musicians and vocal's. The whole place was jumping and as always the staff coped admirably. Well done guys!! Can't wait to see this band again.

Spent a couple of days frequenting the pub. On the plus side, great venue, music and food. Negatives the same 2 drinks cost anything from £9 - £12 dependent on bar staff. When queried with a receipt for wine and soda which went up 70p attitude not needed.... very rude staff remember let them down......

Lovely quirky pub, great food and service, and plenty seating inside and outside

Absolutely lovely pub with a great garden with plenty of seating. Food looked delicious and was showing horse racing on the big screens which doesn’t happen often. However, let down by the miserable young woman on the bar who made the experience a two out of five stars. Unwelcoming and had an attitude which made her come across as rude. It might have been a hot day and the sun was shining but there is no need for service like this. As someone who works in the industry as a a head chef, I would not allow staff to treat paying customers this way.

If I could rate this a zero I would , 12 pound 50p for an aperol sprits itself and a glass of jd and coke in the smallest glass I have ever seen filled with ice too at 3 pound 70 p , avoid this dump like the plague , I have never felt so ripped off in the UK I feel I've been robbed by a beggar behind the bar ! Avoid avoid avoid and the food looks like slop ! I should have guessed when it was totally devoid of human life including the bar staff !!!!!

Friendly service, beautiful food and great entertainment even the beer was great in a proper lager glass can't recommend enough, we will hopefully be back for more

Popped in here for tea on our last night of our hols. Very busy with drinkers. We had scampi which was lovely, disappointed that they were fries. Kids had pizza which they said were nice and one other had tikka masala which was really lovely. Drinks were nice but not cold and not offered ice. Something for everyone so all left happy. Play park on site to keep kids busy whilst waiting for food!

Popped in for a quick drink at approximately 1.30pm and served by an incredibly rude girl who was more interested in moaning about life to her colleague. Upstairs stunk of grease from the kitchen. One to avoid.

Food and atmosphere nice enough. Although it is disheartening when the staff give you attitude upon ordering and leave the toilet without washing their hands, hopefully that individual isn't involved in food preparation!

Horrendous coffee!! My partners drink was put into a old pint glass where branded was available. Low rent quick turn over place don't bother! Go elsewhere advised like other reviews

gorgeous!! the food is SO nice from here and the staff are always lovely when we come. Don’t live here but come here nearly every year since family and came twice within 3 days the food is too good! I would deffo recommend and the atmosphere is good. Pizzas taste handmade i think they are the food tastes very fresh!! 10/10 will be coming here more

Best Sunday lunch in the whole bay, just perfect. You won't be disappointed. Usually live band on in the afternoon as well. Can't beat it. Staff are great Always welcoming. I give it 10 out of 10.

Large beachfront pub that puts on some great events for holidaymakers & locals - live music, karaoke, quizzes - but it's expensive for Paignton & it often takes AGES to get served at the understaffed bar. Pretty nice food, mind.

I love this place. Located on the Paignton sea front.. They do a lovely carvery on a Sunday choice of three meats pork, Turkey or gammon.. Love bands. Great food. Fantastic bands.. Great atmosphere and service. Dog friendly.. Very highly recommend..

We played pool and ate chips on a rainy day and sheltered from the elements.

I visited with friends as it was near our hotel. We listened to the band from 9-11 and had a good time.

It's nice to sit in the sun and drink a beer or 2. The onion rings were ace

Atmosphere was good. Plenty people around with the football on & even in the rain.

Sunday 12.30pm. Must be time for a carvery. Meal was good, particularly the pork. Not a place for real ale lovers, though.

Big pub/restaurant on the seafront. Large downstairs bar and first floor bar/function room. There are lots of interesting artefacts around the bar with comfy sofas and chairs. Beer selection is not very good and a bit generic. Outside seating and big TV screens.

Beer garden for the football. Staff really great. Tom the manager always happy to see regulars and greet new people. Great pub.

Arrived later for last drink and close to our hotel. I have never been hustled out of a pub so quickly and frankly aggressively. Not what I would call a friendly pub. Bit tacky for my taste. Wouldn't return.........

Poor service over priced rude staff

Lovely pub. Inside is a complete contrast to outside. Lots of small initiate spaces well designed. Food is basic but good and well priced. Really nice helpful staff. If you like a good local you'll love it here!

Didn't have any food but had a couple beers, the staff are amazing here, very welcoming and friendly, the place is clean and tidy and has a lot of old memorabilia to look at.

This pub is just across the road from the seafront and has lots of outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. There is plenty of choice on the menu, but what we had was so delicious and the burger bun was lush, crispy and the top of the bun was an unusual design, like a tortoise shell shape, but it was so delicious. We had the classic burger, and this came with chips and homemade slaw. There is something on, entertainment wise, every night from what we read on the posters inside. The barmaids were friendly and let us sample the ciders. The food didn't take long to arrive and I'm sure the atmosphere at night is amazing.

Great pub with a decent selection of beers. The menu was simple,but was one of those that was difficult to choose from. I had the curry and rice, which was very good.

Went to the place Thursday been served by a lovely guy. He recommended us very decent beer. Went to place on Friday was served by seems to be lovely lady, ordered two beers. Tried to order food but lady shut us down saying kitchen opens at 5pm and that’s that. She didn’t even offer to take our order and let us wait for it until kitchen opens up. basically she lost two customers for business as we went elsewhere and had a lovely meal.

This place is great for drinks, food and live music. Dancing shoes were on!!

A decent pint of fosters & a chicken tikka masala with pomadoms & nan bread. Service was nice & friendly, the venue has a charm of its own,live music on a regular basis & a good crowd to match the venue.

Rude & Ignorant front of house Barmaid. Would sack her in an instant. Totally agree with all the other 1 Star reviews. Do all these negative comments go over the owners heads ? The business must be oblivious to referrals . The food was substandard.

Staying locally for my wifes birthday. We called in here about half 8 for a quick drink as it looked busy, then noticed a sign there was a band on later that night so stayed on to check them out. They were few young lads called Double A & the bay, and they were fab, played covers of old classic songs, from 60s to modern stuff.. We had a great night out & ended up staying all night til about 1am..

Over rated over priced £12 for 2 pints & 45 mins gor 2 cheese and onion sarnies and the pub was empty 😒👎
