Lovely visit to a lovely pub. We did the Big Dog Ferry and stopped at Geldeston Lock for a couple of hours. Very helpful and friendly staff. Food was quick to order and arrive and was lovely. We both had an all day breakfast (mine was vegetarian). I really liked that the menu is so flexible for vegetarians and vegans in particular.

We ordered the 2-4-1 burgers which on the face of it were good value. However they were inedible, burnt is an understatement, my wife couldn’t even cut into hers.

I’d heard about this place but the reality is much more than I could have imagined. Just wonderful and it helped hugely that it was a still, and warm, summer’s evening. Excellent atmosphere, good beer and wonderful food. When we were there, it was two for one burger night. Honestly - one of the nicest burgers for a while and sensational for the price; and the chips were superb. Huge outdoor space next to the river.

The long track to the pub has deteriorated since my visit with friends last year. It is more or less impassable in a low raked car so we retraced our steps and left it near Geldeston. It is also not easy on foot unless you wear hiking boots. And that was not the only bump in the road! We thought the food was expensive for the range, presentation and standard when we visited last year. On our recent visit we were quite shocked to find that a pint of ale and a small cold sausage roll set us back over £10. Service was bordering on unenthusiastic. Lovely though the location is when you get there, the effort and food quality just isnt worth it when there is plenty of local competition c!ose-by which is much better value. Sad really but unlikely we will be coming back.

Pleasant riverside location but not the easiest to get to and not well signed from the road. It is billed as a community pub, but rather it is a pub in a community. It strongly features music events, the majority of which are free. It has become more of a tourist destination in the summer. Not surprising as it has a lovely riverside location. However, it does become unreasonably swamped by holiday makers arriving by river and car to the disadvantage of atmosphere and efficiency. There have been some over large parties which have taken over the food service and seating areas providing a less than relaxing experience. I would describe the food is average and more expensive for what it is. There is "usually" a good selection of beer but not always. Service really depends on the staff present at the time. Stronger front of house presence would give the pub some character, otherwise open a busy day it can feel a bit like "Spoons".

This is a unique place, tucked out of the way down a beautiful lane. You can also arrive by boat. We had a range of dishes in our party: veggie chilli chips, coconut Dahl, scampi, cheesy fries- all perfectly cooked and very quick to arrive. Good value drinks and a wide choice. We have visited in both summer to sit in the lovely garden, and winter to sit by the cozy fire. Friendly and welcoming staff.

After my food I went for a lovely walk recommend by a cheerful group of teens by the river enjoying the sun, on my way back from the walk I came across the same group group being aggressively shouted at by the owner calling them “c**ts” and “w**kers” repeatedly. They seemed very threaten and scared it was not a nice environment to see at a “community pub”. I will definitely not be coming back.

A rare gem that not only you can visit by the modern day car, but by river with simple access via a floating jetty. Whether you paddle board or simply walk, The Locks is a place your welcome aboard. Recently bought by the community, this pub is of the future generations but historically stamped. We hope other pubs and community follow suit and the demise of endless franchises is a dream that comes true. Wonderful menu, food and staff. Absolutely beautiful building with real character and Suffolk charm. We are proud to be a part of a community staking and leading the way of the British pub culture. Tip top.

Very friendly and very accommodating even though we arrived as the kitchen was closing. The menu isn't large but the food was very good value and tasted great. Good choice of ales and lagers and in a beautiful spot. Worth noting that it is half a mile from the overflow parking which you are encouraged to use. There is parking closer, and some parking at the pub itself if you need it. All in all a good find and a great evening!

We arrived on the Big Dog Ferry & stayed for lunch & a swim. We all had burgers which were really good, served with some coleslaw. We also had fries which were SUPERB - crispy, golden & delicious!!! We had a mixture of soft drinks & a pint of beer, which were all good. I then had a dip in the river by the bridge which was very refreshing & really quite warm. A really lovely visit & we then drove home, having left a car at the pub earlier.

Went for lunch, a mission to find! Chose from menu and went to the bar, my husband told the bar maid what we wanted to drink, her response was can you order food first, what table number, she was very off-hand, eventually got our drinks. Food arrived quite quickly, Ian had ordered a burger, which was good. I had ordered a ploughman's. This arrived, lots of grated cheese, three slices of tomato all in a small baguette. The baguette was dry, obviously yesterday's. I told the young man who collected the plates that they would be well advised to change their bakery supplier. No apology or comment whatsoever. We will not be returning..

Took over half an hour to get 2 drinks to our table. Eventually after waiting over an hour for a menu, we managed to get the attention of a waitress, to ask if they were doing food, to be told they weren't because the generator wasnt working in the heat! Don't let customers book tables if you know your generator struggles in the heat (it was forecast!!) Alternatively, do a bbq instead, so you have something to offer! Very poor indeed. Does make me wonder how long we would've waited before they let us know that they couldn't do food. We won't be returning. A visit to St Peter's Brewery shop afterwards suggested the generator was always going wrong. Many many disappointed customers today, all the outside tables were full, with only two or three having food, before it packed up completely.

We came here by chance a couple of days ago and hadn't booked, but loved the place so we booked a table for today, asked for a table in the shade. Today we cycled here with the kids to be allocated the table that was certain to be in the sun all day. My friend sat down and ordered drinks before I came and pointed out that the table was going to be in the sun. Then we were told the generator had broken down so we couldn't have any food. That was a shame (and rather problematic for us after a cycle ride with kids) but obviously something they could not do anything about. Asked politely for a table in the shade since there were many more suitable tables, see the photo. We were told they couldn't move us, with no good reason An hour after arriving, theplace is still half empty and we have not been offered even a free snack for the kids as an apology!

A group of friends and I had prebooked and were very happy with our bench outside under a tree but close to the water. Table service worked well and the staff were friendly enough. However, a large group of people who hadn’t booked turned up (with their dogs) and refused the invitation to leave. They weren’t made to give their contact details or have their temperatures taken like the other guests, then sat outside of the fence but jumped over it to order drinks - and were served! All the while they were walking too close to tables and other people while being generally dismissive of the precautions everyone else was taking. They really should have been turned away and not served. Then to top it off, the generator for the kitchen broke down meaning they couldn’t serve food. Needless to say, we left much earlier than we otherwise would have.

I booked a table for 3pm, I arrived at 2:30pm but expected to wait as I knew that Coronavirus would of meant an allocated table system. Had by temperature taken etc and was told that I could get a drink and wait for my table, which I would be told about.I got my drink and sat by the gate, at 3pm no one came to tell me that my table was ready although I see the other waitresses cleaning tables. I waited until 3:10pm before I went to the waitress at the gate, I asked her if our table was ready and her response was 'Have to checked in?' even though she was the one who had booked me in originally. Once she said this she said yes your tables over there and just pointed to the trees. She then seated us and another waitress gave us menu's, another waitress then came over immediately and asked if we were ready to order, we asked for another couple of minutes but ordered drinks, she then came back later and took our food order. We noticed other people were receiving drinks except for us, this was a good 20/25 minutes later, so when we questioned another waitress she went back to check, cam back with the drinks and said that it hadn't been entered onto the system. We continued to wait 1.5 hours for our food, but as the original waitress had said that there was a short delay, we assumed because of Coronavirus, so we assumed the 1.5hr wait was because of that which we understood.Other people who were seated after us received their food, so the original waitress who took the order came over and we questioned where our food was, she went back to the kitchen to check.Who I am assuming was head of the kitchen and also the manager came over and explained that again, the same waitress failed to put it on the system. This was 1hr 45 minutes after we were seated as part of a 2 hour seating allocation! She did explain that she would 'reopen' the kitchen and serve us food within 20 minutes, which would of taken us past the 2hr slot.Although she did give us our second drinks for free, which we appreciated I just thought that the overall approach to customers and the way that waitresses were performing just seemed slap dash.It is a lovely place, but I just feel that it is ruined overall by the staff performance.

Croquette cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, roasted carrots, amazing roasties, beautiful roast beef. Only their 2nd week of doing roasts, so pretty impressive. A friend of ours mentioned that the Locks was starting to do Sunday Roasts. We are so glad we decided to go as it is one of the nicest roast dinners we have had in years. We started off with some feta cheese in vine leaves (from the chefs garden). This was full of flavour and clearly top quality ingredients. My son and I had a roast lamb which was beautifully cooked and ever so tender. They had cooked the vegetables in a creative way and everything was well matched. The little purple potatoes with a slightly spicy sauce (reminiscent of holidays in Spain) was really delicious and went beautifully with the lamb. My husband and son went for the beef which was a bit more of a traditional roast. They both raved about it and not a morsel was left on the plate. My husband always moans about pub roast potatoes but said these were as good as his mums!!After the delicious mains we were ready to try out crumble and churros. Disaster had unfortunately struck and the kitchen had lost its power. You could see the staff were gutted as they were clearly looking forward to showing all the beautifully prepared dishes. Such a shame on their first weekend. They were so apologetic and kindly gave our sons a complimentary ice cream. The service was really lovely and personable and the chef came out and apologised for the trouble in the kitchen on that particular day. Despite the power trouble I would really recommend a trip out to this lovely pub. On top of being really very delicious it was also competitively priced. A real gem of a place with a fantastic chef in charge. We will definitely be back.

What a beautiful and friendly pub/restaurant. We were there on September 3, 2019 enjoying beers and lunch. We took the Big Dog Ferry to The Locks, about a 30 minute ferry ride; apparently you can drive there as well. When we arrived at The Locks we were greeted by an array of picnic tables, of which many people were enjoying food and beers. We sat at the big round table by the entrance to the Locks. Our friends ordered the Chicken Salad and my wife ordered the Beetroot Dip, which she found delicious and ate the whole thing (and she’s a very, very picky eater). I on the other hand had the daily special, the Duck Confit, which was equally outstanding. The pub inside has a lot of character.

Stopped here when we hired a canoe. Sat outside on a gorgeous day. Considering how busy it was we didn't have to wait long for our food.

We had lunch at The Locks as a family of 4 - all adults, we'd hired canoes and paddled our way along to the river to The Locks.

So visited today for lunch, after many years since my previous visit.Very friendly staff and the place has a lovely atmosphere. The menu consistent of about 8 choices and a specials board of 3/4 options. Nice to see some different choices on a menu from normal run of the mill pub grub. This is a place well worth a visit either by road or boat,as the spacious restaurant has a lovely feel and if you are lucky to see the sun you can enjoy the river as there is plenty of outdoor seating.

We'll worth the trip down the rough road to find this hidden gem, which is also accessable by boat on the River Waveney. Great lunch in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. Excellent!!

We arrived here on the big dog ferry and what a lovely pub nestling at the edge of the broads. We had a lovely meal inside the pub, staff were really friendly and chatty and the food was great. Could take the dog in with us as well. Sat outside with drinks listening to a band as they were having a beer festival as well. Overall a great few hours sitting in the sunshine eating and drinking. Will be back!!

We booked the Big Dog ferry from Beccles to take us there and back, there was a beer festival on so it was a great way to visit and not drive. The pub has changed since we visited last year, looks more finished and more seating indoors to compliment the large garden.Grain brewery have some great beers and now have a few good pubs. Due to the festival there was a folk band playing outside along with a separate bar and bbq.

We ate here last night as the weather was nice. We ordered a steak with potato rosti and the meat was so tough you couldn't cut through it let alone chew it. We wanted a dessert and were told the kitchen closed at 9 when given the dessert menu. We ordered at 8.45 to be told the kitchen wouldn't do it for us! Then before they had even cleared our plates from our main course they proceeded to start locking all the doors and pulling the blinds down - needless to say we got the message and left!! Don't know if we caught it on a bad night but a pretty poor evening all in all.

Lovely to see this fantastic old pub finally looking loved. The restaurant and lounge are very well appointed. Sadly, the food today didn't come up to expectation and we had to return one of our meals as it was totally inedible. The other one was just about okay but it did not match the description on the menu. We both left feeling very disappointed. Go back to doing good, honest pub grub. You have a wealth of fantastic local produce on your doorstep so use it!!

As we tried to follow the River Waveney from Bungay to Beccles we decided to stop off here for a late lunch as they serve food all day. The weather allowed us to enjoy a pint and food in the garden. The food was enjoyable and well served as was the pint. Lovely setting down by the River Waveney. The staff were very friendly and we were made very welcome.

A large group of friends and I visited the Locks after boating from Beccles. It’s not the first time we’ve been as it’s local and it’s usually lovely.

Walked to locks yesterday evening with friends from Norwich who know Grain brand well. Menu met our needs and food tasty, we were happy to experiment. My only suggestion would be that waiters (who were very polite and chatty which we liked) to bring out cutlery before food. On the downside my husband said toilets needed updating. We will be back who Not only enjoyed the walk but would like to see how thing progress and support Grain.

Found this lovely, peaceful riverside pub and spent a very pleasant couple of hours there. There is plenty of space in the garden so visitors can choose whether to sit in the shade of the ancient ash tree or enjoy a sunny spot. Our food was tasty and not excessively expensive either. It was relaxing watching people arrive by boat or canoe, swallows skimming over the water and birdsong adding to the feeling of tranquillity. Highly recommended for a lazy Summer afternoon.

We had been told the newanagement team were making a difference but we could food disappointing. It's a great location with good mooring and the garden was packed but hardly anyone appeared to be eating!! We got many and were suprised how litlle on it and what there was was a bit specialised! and no standard pub fayre. No sandwiches rolls toasties or any snacks. There was going to be a bbq later.

As a family we’ve been coming to the Locks since the ‘70s. My Mum was a bit apprehensive about going today, since the reviews below are not too complimentary, but we gambled on it. It seems a lot of the negative reviews are occupied with moaning that the place has changed and modernised a bit, but if a refresh and tidy up (and yes, sadly losing the piano and candles in bottles) means we can actually be greeted with a smile and expect food to be on if they’ve said it is, we’re game! It’s such a beautiful spot, and the cliquey, hostile atmosphere that previously pervaded was ruining it. To be honest, we quite like that they’ve opened the place up and created different seating/eating/drinking areas.

Visited Geldeston Locks Inn, Suffolk yesterday, a place I have visited many, many times since the early 80's, I even lived in Geldeston village for 9 years, and I have to say......disappointed! Since this place was taken over by the Grain Brewery Co., they have managed to lose the charm of a place that has remained basically unchanged for decades. Didn't even stay for a beer.

Absolutely fantastic 8 course tasting menu! Everything was delicious and well executed. Nick was great, he looked after us all night. It was lovely to see the chefs coming out with the food to explain the dishes. Would highly recommend well done

If you want burgers, pie, pizza, fish&chips also on our table location - on a busy food/pedestrian pass- plus a classy constant ‘C bomb’ dropping female barfly atmos - then this the place for you! Used to be great - what the heck has gone wrong? No specials, no drinks service, no enquiry as to if everything was ok (maybe too embarrassed to ask!). Great family (away from the classy barfly) ‘cafe/burger joint - but not a couples restaurant - maybe a commercial choice but not for us sadly anymore.

A lovely place to stop off for a filling bite to eat, with a large assortment of sweet and savory dishes and snacks on the menu. Friendly staff that don't 'overdo it', whilst ensuring a relaxed and attentive service. May be more pricey when ordering for groups of people, but individually it is worth the money. The selection of food we bought was recieved positively, cooked well to order with large and ample amounts, which recieved strains of 'oohs' and 'aahs' of satisfaction, especially towards crispy, flavoursome Scampi, and vinegar-coated, chunky chips. Very pleased with service, food, and cafe layout itself. Only issue is towards prices of drinks, but that can't be helped much due to inflation. All round good experience, leaving us full until the afternoon.

What a lovely manager. It was close to shutting as I pulled in to sort out my baby from crying on my way home to Essex. The manager even though closed invited me and my baby in so I could feed him and offered me tea. Thanks to her I had a happy baby who slept the rest of the hour journey home. That kindness I will never forget and now we plan to go in every time we make the journey now to see the parents. 10000/10

We had a very pleasant meal even though the service was very slow, staff were polite. Very nice atmosphere even though there was a very loud man in the bar. I asked a man who I assume was the manager that there was no soap in the ladies toilet he said he would deal with it but when I was leaving both soap dispensers were still empty so I had to use the disabled toilet. A mocca was ordered and we were charged for a Hot Chocolate and an Americano which came to £5.50, if we had known it would be this price we would not have ordered it, we queried it and were told we should have looked at the menu, there was no Mocca mentioned so we should have been informed.
