What a superb spot for a day out. Located right near the beach. Open spacious restaurant with wonderful views of the beach and ocean. Food delicious, staff helpful, friendly, service orientated. A must if you have visitors or looking to do something different.

Watching the dramatic stormy weather outside while ensconced in the warm, inviting interior adds an element of thrill to the dining experience. The restaurant is perfect for those looking to enjoy a relaxing day with its chilling vibes and comfortable setting. A highlight of my visit was the lovely cream tea. Served with rich, clotted cream and perfect scones, it was a delightful treat. Our family enjoyed it.

Lovely relaxed restaurant / lounge which we enjoyed twice, once for dinner and once for just drinks. The staff were top class, service fast, efficient and friendly, food quality high, portion sizes generous and prices reasonable. Dog friendly too. What’s not to love? Plenty of paid for parking nearby

Really bad experience here. Unfortunately we came here as a Christmas present as part of the Spa & Dine deal. We were hoping to do this deal regularly as locals but will not be returning. The service in this restaurant was awful. Seated with no menus for 15 minutes, food arrived before drinks, we had to remind the staff to get them, starters only cleared when we purposely stared at a waitress to get her attention, main course plates were left dirty on the table for 35 minutes, when they were finally cleared one of the plates was still left, we asked for dessert menus which never arrived. The final plate was only cleared after we eventually gave up and found a manager. We ended up requesting our pre paid deserts to be packaged up so we could just leave as we had been sat for so long. As we complained we received a drink each complimentary which in hindsight doesn’t make up for such poor service. Unfortunately there were many staff working, and not many tables occupied at all the staff just didn’t do anything! We could see other diners getting up to go and ask if they could pay as no one was seeing to them either. Disappointing as we found out the had been a manager in there the whole time who then insisted this never usually happens. Doubtful.

My wife and I are massive foodies and eating out is almost a religion to us. We've been to the Living Space number of times and it just gets better and better. We only had lunch this time and ordered Ndjua Burrata and Satay chicken. Both were incredible. We come to the Watergate Bay / Padstow area quite a few times a year and we'll definitely be making the Living Space a permanent for dinner fixture on all our visits.

Been eating here for 15 years and spent a fortune with fantastic service and food over that time. arrived today Only to find that you have to pay for your food and drink now before you have the chance to even eat it ( pub service ) the waitress was embarrassed and couldn’t justify it But hey they still charge 5* prices 🤷‍♀️ Lost us as a customer

Really poor lunch today. I had the veggie burger with fries. Tasted like something I could have knocked up at home which is always a disappointment when go out. My girlfriend had the mushrooms with slaw and sweetcorn. What a let down. Mushrooms were greasy, slaw average at best and sweetcorn like the vacuum pack variety. Really wouldn’t bother again which is a shame because food here a few years ago was really good. They can manage a decent flat which which suppose is one positive.

Beautiful restaurant with stunning views. Food was absolutely delicious and staff were attentive and friendly. Would be better if were able to book beforehand but worth the trip down here to check. Only additional feedback was the kids menu is a little limited but found something he would eat.

Sadly you’re told yet if you didn’t book it’s a problem but yet tables empty… after that fuss you sit down. Told to use an app as people can’t be bothered to print a menu. Then you cannot order via app! So you wait for service it’s slow. The. Be careful if you order a starter . … if your plate is not collected your main will NEVER ARRIVE ! After I queried why our mains were slower than several tables around us who arrived after us I was told that no one had cleared my starter plate which triggers the main order. What a shambles. I resorted to going to the bar for my second drink. A real shame as last night of our holiday. But the view is nice 😎

We went for drinks at The Living Space last weekend. The staff were lovely, very attentive, and the drinks were perfect. Such a relaxing evening, sitting looking out at the amazing view.

Have always loved the Living Space but when staying last weekend we couldn’t even get through the door as didn’t have a reservation. Since when have residents had to book for an early casual dinner? Ended up driving further afield for a quick bite to eat- not acceptable when you consider room rate was approx £700 a night and as far as I could see no option on the app to book a table in the LS.

Stayed at the Watergate Bay Hotel for the first time. The Living Space is part of the hotel and offers great views across the Bay in a relaxed atmosphere. A superb choice of wines/beers, food choice is spot on and the Staff were excellent with nothing too much trouble. Well worth a visit.

So, family surfing on the beach, Mum and Dad need a coffee and having clocked the WBH, decided to bag a table in the 'Living Space' restaurant - what a find! Great staff who made sure we had a great table overooking the beach, hugely patient as we awaited the arrival of the surfers (and a small pooch), content with a couple of coffee's to 'tide' us over (pun intended), and then lunch! Perfect fare for a beach view, and were I not on a January blasted diet, many more truffle and parmesan fries would have been ordered (sublime) to accompany the excellent food (noodles particularly). But, as ever, you can have the view, the food, and the location, but without great staff, it's never going to work. The WBH LS staff were faultless; friendly, helpful, engaged, patient, efficient, and funny (properly funny) - rarley have I happily parted with a tip as I did today. The 'banana sticky toffee pudding' was declared a world best by our expert... ;-) Well done team - great lunch, and thanks for being patient as we streched it out! Looking forward to coming back.More

We visited several times while staying at the watergate bay hotel for a week. As ever the location and ambience was second to none. The staff were all fantastic, all working so hard, very attentive and couldn’t do enough for you. My only reason for dropping to 4 stars rather than 5 is the menu choices. I completely understand the need to reduce menu options in the current climate, but we got bored quite quickly. I used to have a lovely Buddha bowl type salad on previous visits, but that is no longer available sadly. The specials were meat / fish mostly and not so much for vegetarians. I had the moving mountains burger 3 times, and it was delicious, but I would have liked another option - something with halloumi/ avocado would get my vote! On a side note, I had mentioned in my last review that the scones had been disappointing, and these have now been changed and are very much improved- large, served warm, and delicious! The living space still offers a great option for lunch / dinner, but a broadening of the menu for hotel’s guests would really make it fantastic!

I visited with my fiancee and had the most perfect afternoon. We were looked after beautifully and our food and drinks arrived quickly. It would appear whatever issues they have had with food and drink waits has now been fixed as i didnt encounter anything of the like during our visit. Hats off to you folks, what a gorgeous place! Lovely looking hotel over a fantastic Bay. My girlfriend and myself were recommended to call in for a drink and some food. The beer was very limited and the service wasn’t great. We did have to wait over twenty minutes for our second drink and unfortunately the staff just kept walking past us as we tried to order. In the end I had to go to the bar and ask. ( not a problem in normal times). Very clean and well presented and really helpful and polite receptionist. We did decide to move on for food as the drinks took far to long and it wasn’t a busy time. Would recommend the Beach Hut on the beach if you want a lovely atmosphere and great service. Sorry Water Bay Hotel. We were a tad disappointed 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'll keep this short and sweet. We went to Watergate Bay to get away from the crowds and stumbled upon The Living Space, having never heard of it before. Here's what to do: 1. Get a table outdoors, overlooking the beach (weather permitting). 2. Order one of the burgers (I had the cheeseburger and my partner had the chicken burger). 3. Order a G&T. 4. Enjoy the view and your drinks while you wait. 5. Finally, tuck into one of the best burgers you will ever have in your life! Follow these steps and you will leave a happy human being.

Always welcoming to us and all our friends/family/dog. Lovely food, very fresh and varied, beautiful location. What more could we ask for?

Located higher up in the hotel when having lunch sit outdoors with views of the sea. This is a beautiful place. We had lunch and dinner here and was great meals. The sandwiches are good and the fish and chips were great portion and fresh. The veg curry (red Thai , mean green & Kerala ) all have so much potential but just need to fulfill with the countries where they originate from and add some flavours ; spice, lemongrass , coriander. Having Desserts are lovely and leave room for their ice cream too. We ordered a picnic from here and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We had a late lunch here on Sunday and it was lovely! Great service (very polite staff, clean tables and felt very safe), and brilliant food as always. We had a veggie burger, the mussels and drinks. Everything was great quality and the service was speedy. Fabulous staff and great views too

We visited for lunch and drinks and the whole experience was excellent for many reasons:We both had the fish and chips which was delicious and a generous serving. The staff were friendly and attentive. The view from the terrace is beautiful. The social distancing was perfect and the level of cleanliness was exceptional. There was a one-way system through the restaurant and the tables were well spaced. All the staff wore face coverings. We had complete confidence in the measures they had taken and it was lovely to be able to relax.

We had a very relaxing afternoon watching the world go by, enjoying yummy food and drinks with our pup Lulu in tow. The area is light, well set out and spacious. The staff were friendly attentive and efficient. Food quality high and prices reasonable. With outside seating overlooking the beach / sea for warm times this place has it all.

Came to The Living Space for lunch with a friend after being highly recommended, the restaurant decor and views are fantastic however left feeling rather disappointed. Despite there being numerous staff wandering around service was very slow, items missing from our order and no attention given once food arrived. Highly priced for very average food.

This is a restaurant located inside the Watergate Bay Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall. It is right on the beach with beautiful views of the ocean. My wife had Laksa soup which is an Indian dish. And I had mean fish curry. Both meals were delicious. The service was top notch. We seated oueselves and a staff menber immediately came over to take our orders. With all that said, if you are not a dog lover this may not be the place for you. In fact, there were more dogs on leashes in the restaurant than people. None of the dogs were a bother.

Food and service is excellent.... a bit noisy when kids get into full flow, but the quality of the vegetarian shared platters is superb and the views across the bay great

Lovely reviews of the beach, great atmosphere. Nice attentive friendly service. We loved our meals, the buddha bowl, the fish and chicken, fried chicken burger and burger. Also the baked Alaska was a pleasant surprise too.

Following a long day on the beach, we were delighted when the team managed to find us a table on a particularly busy night. They really went out of the way to make it work for us, for which we were really grateful. The food was delicious (kids enjoying various burgers and adults enjoying a mixture of burgers and salads) and there was a really relaxed vibe. Our dog also really appreciated the fresh water which was offered without being asked for! All in all a lovely evening in a great location.

Great food- although menu not changed since our last visit a year ago. Scones were disappointing and very crumbly so go elsewhere for your cream tea. Love the Buddha bowl and Gin list! Amazing view of the sun setting!

Really cool place to eat. Food a bit different, very modern, on edge of Watergate Bay. Favourite place to go in Newquay. You must try it.

All round stunning. Design, space, views etc are fabulous. Coffee excellent, really delicious. Food was super, we both had the fish finger sandwiches that came with fries and salad. Children’s meal very good (sandwich and crudités). they serve a clotted cream gin and tonic which I’d highly recommend. Service amazing. Would thoroughly recommend.

Staying in Watergate Bay we were a family of 8 plus a dog and we decided to go to this restaurant for lunch. We were so glad we did it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the service was excellent and the decor was lovely and bright and airy. All of our meals were beautifully presented and we all agreed they tasted absolutely delicious. Beautiful views over the beach just a perfect place to eat and drink. If cocktails are your thing then give the apple and vanilla mojito a go you won’t be disappointed. Can’t wait to come back

During our recent holiday in Cornwall we ate lunch twice in this beautiful modern bistro style relaxed restaurant overlooking the beach. The food is excellent, really A1 and the service friendly and efficient. Will definitely go back next year.

Perfectly nice food- could do with a bit more choice. But the place was absolutely beautiful with amazing views and very comfortable chairs and sofas!

The standard of food is a cut above - really. The salads in particular are imaginative, look great and are super tasty. I highly recommend the Buddha Bowl and the Israeli roasted fennel salads. Break out of default carnivore mode and try them - I didn't regret it and would order them again the next time I visit. I know raving about salad is kinda weird, but that's why I'm bothering to tell you. Take it from a bloke that loves a juicy steak.

Lovely spacious dining / drinking area with plenty of helpful attentive staff. The portion sizes were generous, food quality high and prices more than reasonable. Lovely views of the sea / beach from the outside deck can be enjoyed when weather permits.

Loved this place, very light and airy with a terrace to the beach. An informal atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. I had the falafel burger which was truly delicious. The fries were hand cut with the potato skin on and so tasty

3rd day if our stay. Hotel and food is very good, however the service in the living room is not the best.

A lovely location, good tea / coffee and cakes / pastries.

I decided not to have my usual burger which I have always enjoyed. Instead I chose the special of the day 'Coronation Chicken'. To be honest I have had much better from my local bakery.

We called in for a bite to eat and it was really good I ordered the fish finger sandwich which was recommended by the waiter and he wasn’t wrong it was very nice and filling my wife had small childrens burger and was very impressed the atmosphere was good our dog made welcome we will return.

We visited Watergate Bay yesterday (which in itself is well worth a visit) and decided to have a late lunch in the hotel and in The Living Space restaurant. It has a great vibe and amazing views over the beach and out to sea. The service was superb from start to finish - helpful, attentive and informative along with some humour which was appreciated to show he was not reading from a script. Then came the food - outstanding! The best taramasalata ever, mushroom chips which were amazing and the main courses were 10/10. Drinks, deserts rounded off a great lunch. I could go on but cannot fault the experience we had yesterday and I can only say, just go there and try it yourself!

We came across this place by accident as we had originally thought to go elsewhere in Watergate Bay for lunch. Turns out, this was lovely and even though the place was packed on a Monday we got a seat outside on the veranda with our dog. The food was very good and the service friendly and efficient.

New Years Day visit with friends. The views from this establishment are sensational. We had a light lunch and drinks, the service was very friendly and efficient. Would recommend to all.

we had lunch and dinner at the Living Space. The food was freshly prepared, tasy and interesting. There were plenty of things on the menu that we wanted to eat and we would have happily had dinner there on our second night too (we chose to go to the Beach hut instead but only because we felt we should!)

We recently spent a very pleasant couple of hours having coffee and fresh scones in The Living Space. We have visited several times before and were lucky enough to find a spot overlooking the magnificent beach.

It was a bit too wet to go sightseeing / walking so we spent an afternoon and early evening people watching, enjoying the views of the beach and sea. Then dinner in the ‘living space’ the staff were friendly and attentive and good fun. The food choice was wide and the quality first rate. The prices were more than reasonable given the portion sizes, setting and quality. A very relaxing time was had.

This is our second visit to Cornwall this year and second time we travelled over an hour to go to our favourite spot for lunch to find it closed to non residents. Had elderly disabled person with us and all the other spots in town not suitable. Ie up hill or got a step into establishment. But turned away: I can’t fault the restaurant, food and fab views but if you going specifically to eat here then call ahead. I will definitely do this next time as we so disappointed as when we come to Cornwall we always have lunch here it is one of the highlights of the trip

Food here is out of this world could not recommend enough, how ever the disinterested, dismissive staff really ruined our lunch, it was so difficult to even get our bill we laughed about how they even notice if we walked out.. obviously a change over of shift 3/4 pm just young girls stood around us chatting whilst we were waiting for our plates to be cleared etc.. We wanted to stay after food and have a cocktail but didn't want to bother the staff

We visited Watergate beach on Sunday to walk the dogs with friends who live nearby. We had lunch at the hotel which was fabulous. Food was lovely, wine was delicious and the views were wonderful. Felt like being on holiday!

We were on a tour of Cornwall over 5 days and having previously stayed the night in Padstow were advised to visit WGB hotel to experience the panoramic views from the balcony seating area. " Have an early G & T we were advised, they are superb" We arrived at 10.45 a.m. and proceeded to the outside seating area and as promised the views across the bay are stunning and we were lucky to have glorious weather.

Fantastic menu of speciality Gins. Add this to a great menu of 'light bites' and a seriously good location and you can't go wrong. Such a fantastic place to spend an afternoon....Not cheap but you definitely get what you pay for.

Popped in for a meal as we were staying nearby and we were all really impressed. The atmosphere was relaxed and chilled out. The food was simple and well executed. It was the best meal We had whilst staying in Newquay that week. Would recommend the lemon baked alaska. Be careful though as quite often the restaurant is closed to non residents when the hotel is full.

Got to admit i love this place, the food and drink is pretty expensive to tell you the truth £16 for a burger and 2 portions of chips, but the food is very tasty and tomato ketchup has something like pickles in it, very nice.

This is how you keep everyone happy... a great location, a menu with something for everyone. All cooked to order and available. A restaurant that is child and dog friendly and a view that nobody can complain about.

I have been here a few times and it’s always same high standard service. A great relaxed atmosphere and the staff are helpful but not over the top. A few days ago we went for an evening meal and my husband is not well and finds it difficult to eat especially if presented with a large plateful, he asked if he could order from the kids menu and this was no problem at all. As he can’t get down to the beach anymore this is a great spot to view the bay. Oh and the food is tasty. Thank you.

Went in for a drink. Delicious cider. Sat outside on the terrace, such a great view over the beach such a lovely position. Good service - only thing it was difficult to pay when we were leaving even though there were 4 members of staff behind the bar

Wow ! Lovely treat for my 40 th birthday and stay in Cornwall.Had lunch at The living space on Friday 20 th July,Fantastic lunch,great service ,very informal. The guy that served us (wish I had got his name for review ) young guy in his twenties with dark hair was fantastic ,he took our whole order of food and drinks without writing anything down !! Very impressed with the relaxed service.I was recommended a wicked wolf gin, which was lovely.We ordered a longboard ,some phenomenal dim sum pork buns and the most amazing portobello mushrooms chips, I would drive from Plymouth every day if I could for those ! Was a fab lunch,beautiful setting, already looking top stay down next year for three nights in the hotel.Will be back !

I dined at Zachary’s (the fine dining restaurant) at Watergate Bay hotel last year and it was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had and a massive waste of money. However on Sunday I went to the Living Space which is part of the hotel at Watergate Bay. This was an amazing few hours and I loved it from start to finish. The food is so delicious and the staff were super friendly and professional. I sat outside with my partner and the views are simply out of this world (quick tip - take sunglasses if it’s sunny) we ate a steak sandwich each and had mushroom chips as a side. I can not fault the food or the service and I can not wait to come again. Well done and thanks for a lovely lunch. Maybe the staff at Zachary’s should take note and learn how it’s done !!

Like all sea front hotels this one clearly takes a battering from the elements, inside is spotless, with comfortable furnishings, we managed to find a spot outside, with a weird combination of weathered windows on one side of us, and new looking PVC framed window the other side.

We used the living space several times during our stay at WGB hotel. You really would struggle to beat the views and location for starters- this is the place to catch amazing sunsets with a glass of wine. Service is very prompt, and the food really is top notch. There is also a games room to the side to keep children amused. Very relaxed atmosphere and highly recommended!

The Living Space has possibly the best views in the area & the staff are really well training - attentive & friendly, without being over whelming. The food is proper, straightforward, family-style In full sized & child sized portions. The latter are fine for most adults.

we visited the living space for a drink and food on separate occasions during our stay in watergate at a friends apartment. When we first went for a drink it was a saturday evening and they had put a board outside to say it was full and closed to non residents - we had gone out early especially for a drink so we carried on and walked in no trouble and the bar wasn’t busy in the slightest so i can’t understand why they’d put this outside. However the place is beautiful and has a great menu with lovely staff, the food is also excellent it’s definitely worth a visit.

The views here are worth whatever it is. Sit in the bar on a windy day or lounge outside if you have the sun and enjoy a simple lunch and a drink or two for an hour or two - or three.

great views and food in a great hotel. Spicy squid is worth a look as well as the good variety of gins on offer

We only ate snacks and had drinks here but it was all very good and we would certainly visit again. Dogs and children are welcome.

Had the best BEST experience there.

Spent a couple of three day hols at the Watergate Bay Hotel and the living room is where we all met for drinks and lunch. The food was really good the two young grandsons liked the houmous with carrot and cucumber sticks followed by the Parmesan pasta with butter. Of course they loved the fries. The adults liked the burger plus the squid. Sitting outside on the balcony watching the sea is great. Service is friendly, can be a bit slow so if you are in a rush then you might get a bit frustrated. I usually chilling out on holiday so I don't mind the wait. It's one of my favourite places for casual eating.

Our family had a lovely afternoon cream tea at the Watergate Hotel . Service and food was very nice we all enjoyed the the stunning views . We had a chance to look around the Hotel which looked contemporary and well equipped

Fantastic hotel - one on the list to stay now. We just stopped for a pot of tea and crab sandwich, which were excellent. Friendly staff, and great view of the beach. The place was busy as it is Boardmasters weekend, but this was an oasis of serenity

An excellent brasserie laid back cafe/restaurant. Busy with plenty of noise but great views of the sea and coast line. The menu is simple but really fresh and the tastes are fantastic.We are both vegetarian so try the mushroom "chips" as a starter....or the vegetarian platter to share....you won't be disappointed!

My husband and I had lunch here after a long coast walk. All the outside places were taken, so we were lucky to find a "sit-up" table inside - by which I mean not a table surrounded by comfy chairs or sofas (I find eating at these gives me indigestion!). I had the crab sandwich which was out of this world: soft bread packed with delicate crab, and lovely thin fries. My husband was disappointed that a restaurant like this would have only one grilled fish available: cod! It was well cooked with lovely veg, but some more variety would be appreciated! Staff are friendly and helpful, and the decor is charming. I think we'd try to find somewhere with a slightly more fish-based menu next time.

This place has a view like no other overlooking the beach The food is great with lots of choice But the service is unbelievably slow we waited 45 minutes for 2 cola's but maybe it was just a bad day because the food was lovely and we will definitely return

I have been visiting Cornwall for 32 years and have seen many things change for this worse in the Newquay area. However, Watergate Bay Hotel is NOT one of them.Almost every year I make a point of stopping by here for at least dinner. Unfortunately, I have been unable to for the past few visits. We arrived for dinner at the fairly recently refurbished 'Living Space' restaurant, which is so impeccably designed and furnished, so much class.The food was fantastic.To start we had the bread and oil as well as the 'Mushroom Chips' (Basically Portobello Mushroom Strips in Parmesan Crumb) - so simple yet divine!For the main, we both had steak which again was delicious and cooked to perfection for both of us. My only small gripe here, and it's tiny is that it was served with fries. For me, the 'Living Space' is better than that -, especially with such good steak.For desert, we both had the chocolate mousse. Well if we weren't being spoilt at this stage then I don't know what was happening. Firstly in almost every establishment that serves mouse, you'll find a small, mean portion in a ramekin - nope not here, it was massive, the taste was so good it can't possibly be legal.We stayed for a couple of drinks afterwards with a great selection of Gin (Including local to choose from).The staff are truly wonderful here particularly one of the managers (possibly Andrea??). There was nothing that was too much trouble for them at all. Time was spent talking to diners as if they were the only ones in the room, attention to detail was en pointe and overall just very, very welcoming.The only change I would like to see is some Citronella candles or similar both inside and outside to stop the midges which were quite a nuisance that night.Well done to all!!!

A fantastic day on the beach watching Polo and jousting, which was amazing and so to the Living Space at Watergate Bay HotelHappy, friendly, welcoming atmosphere, with a balcony terrace outside to watch the sunsetGreat menu choice and a selection of specialsWaiter table service, friendly and efficient.Superb fish and chips, very tasty Great choice and variety of seating, tables and chairs, stools, booths with benches and some wicked settees to just soak up the atmosphere and chill out

Sick of trying to visit this place. Open only for residents....on many occasion been turned away at the door....lots of space on the outside area so this attitude is very bad...no probs...we are local and wont visit in the winter never mind the summer from now on. Its a hotel with a bar...not an exclusive club where they can openly discriminate....when they feel like it. Our money will be spent elsewhere

Lovely chilled and relaxing area at all times of the day. Dogs welcome. Attentive and friendly staff as in the rest of the hotel.

Lovely relaxing setting and friendly service. Great food. Spent our afternoons looking at view and enjoying drinks & nibbles. Great experience.

Had dinner here one night during our stay. Food was great and staff were too.Environment is relaxing with a gentle buzz. Seating is in and out and doesn't depend on weather staff will serve you anywhere.
