We rolled up hungry and thirsty. The wonderful staff sorted us out. The day's Specials were beef curry and a spinach falafel burger. Perfect. The beer is great too. We had nicely kept hand-pulled bitter. Recommended.

Used to call in here many times in the past whilst out cycling. The real ale was always hit and miss, usually miss rather than hit so I’ve stayed away for at least the last 4 years. Recently myself and the wife thought we’d give it another go and were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the cask beers. Bolt maker, HPA, Butcombe and a Welsh SA beer were on, all beautifully conditioned and throughly enjoyed. The new owners obviously know what they’re doing when it comes to beer. We haven’t tried the food yet but, if the the beer is anything to go by it should be pretty good. Only downside for me is, the pub could do with a little makeover, the interior is stuck in the 1970s… but it’s clean

A delicious Sunday afternoon lunch of sliced turkey (one of 3 meats available), freshly prepared vegetables and roasties. Nice touch with the gravy boat! Prompt attentive service and choice of 3 guest beers behind a well-stocked bar. Excellent rejuvenation of a country pub by Dave and Janice!

A proper pub and very clean with a wide range of drinks and snacks. Happened on this pub by chance travelling from Holmston Hall to Middlewich and it does not disappoint. In the process of refurbishment by the owners and as yet cannot comment on the food as the kitchen is a work in progress . Nice open fire in the bar, good ales, comfortable atmosphere. Ab Fab 😎

I was told about this pub by a friend who knows what I consider to be a good pub. He wasn't wrong. This hostelry has a new owner as it turned out. They're doing it up at present, but it is fully functional for wet sales. This is a proper local community pub, with a cheerful and friendly manager behind the bar. The beer selection is excellent, with a choice of two real ales also. It has a friendly atmosphere with friendly locals, dogs included. Well worth a visit.

Landlord was friendly and knew about his beers and lagers, etc. Nice big fire kept the space warm. We sat down to relax with a half as we were passing. 10 mins in, a guy on the next table stared at my friend and we got a "what are you looking at?" We are two women having high a pint. We're just there to relax rather than get into a row. We left soon after. Life is too short for the hassle from guys like that. Shame. Landlord was nice and helpful.

definitely a Locals' pub, as an 'outsider' you may feel that the atmosphere is a bit strange but it's all the better for that - it's definitely like stepping back in time. Lovely beer garden and real ale was very good (HPA on draught). There's a peculiar 'membership' thing going on, which is difficult to comprehend - almost as if it's a members club, doesn't make any sense as to all intents and purposes it presents itself as an ordinary pub. I would recommend visiting - we did as we had a boat nearby at Venetian marina - it was the only pub nearby, about half a mile.

Been visiting this pub (infrequently) for many years. The decor is 'evolved' traditional country pub. Cosy and welcoming. The locals are in fact part of the furniture. The Landlord - Harry - is a character , with a very dry sense of humour who doesn't suffer fools. On the other hand, he and the regulars are very friendly and he easily remembers what you drink even if you haven't been for months! I can understand it becoming 'members only' during covid as his regulars are the lifeblood of the pub and with their health concerns it woud be best to make it their 'bubble'. Good on him for choosing to safeguard his customers. Unfortunately it may all change as I hear Harry has passed away.

This is a proper oldschool boozer, the couple of pints of Butcombe original I had were kept exceptionally well. The landlord is quite a character and the locals at the bar were really friendly and welcoming. There is a really impressive array of taxidermy in some quite interesting poses, I got a couple of pictures. Well worth a visit if you pass by.

We found this pleasant country pub when on a bike ride. It's on a main cycling route and is a perfect pitstop. All you'll currently get are hot and cold drinks and bar snacks which is fine for cyclists. There is plenty of outside seating with umbrellas and ample space to park bikes, set well back from the road. The toilets are clean and well-kept and are easily accessible from outside. The 'Members Only' signs are Covid precautions. Customers who aren't members can order and pay at the bar and wait for drinks or have them brought outside. Ww found this procedure perfectly reasonable and have enjoyed a warm welcome on every visit. Recommended.

Was staying at caravan park down the road, when driving past seen a Sky Sports sign outside. Looks like a nice little country pub (from the outside) The wife and I decided we would go for a few quiet drinks, once inside we were told it was members only pub, we were told it is "members only" because they know all the members and they don't know us, and we may have brought Covid to the pub. We were so so shocked, we had both been double jabbed? And as if the "members" could not bring Covid to the pub. The attitude of the owner was disgraceful, unprofessionally and unnecessary. We left and went to a better pub down the road. Was very scruffy inside anyway. Do yourselves a favour, give this one a miss and go somewhere else.

Called 40 times between 2 people all morning to find opening times for the England match. - no answer No website. Arrived at the pub at 13.30 to a closed pub, locals told me it opens at 14.00 No opening times on the door. When it opened no guests had to check in as per government guidelines. The very rude barman then told us it was a "members only" We replied they need to put up a sign or something. A female bar person then barked up with abuse. A shame I couldn't rate it 0/5. Don't waste your time like I did... Go the tolmarche arms down the road... Much nicer place

The little man is indeed what the owner is. To be spoken too like S**t just because it said “members only”, even though a Non member who was in the pub also told us to ignore the signs. I would not be giving this bad review if they did not speak to us in such a rude manner. Completely unnecessary and unacceptable! Would not recommend but the pub called tollemache arms only 5 mins down the road is lovely and made us feel very welcome.

Treated absolutely appalling, we walked in at 2pm with masks on to watch the England Croatia match, when the old fella told us he wasn't going to serve us because it was a members only bar. His wife said we were not taking covid seriously with numbers going up. I asked if she could guarantee her so called member didn't have covid, or have had the vaccine as we have. There are signs up saying members only, but one of the members said not to take any notice because anyone can go in. Anyway we left and I'm glad we did because we were made extremely welcome at the Tollemarche arms, were they rely on trac n trace not a fake membership. I dont usually leave bad reviews for anywhere, but this place treated us disgustingly. I'm glad we didn't give them our hard earned money. I work for the nhs My husband is retired My daughter works for the police and take covid very seriously, we have all been vaccinated.

Place lovely. Ambience lovely. Staff really nice. I had sirloin, as did my friend. Mine was never rare and neither was his medium. Both steaks overdone and tough. As it was a lunch gathering of friends we did not complain. However, my partner had cod and chips and it was excellent.

Before I said anything, a man called Will barked at me "We can't heat that up now, we've cleaned the ovens down in time for closing".
