Plough & Flail Mobberley in Cheshire East

We often come to The Plough and Flail. The staff are fantastic and friendly. Nothing is too much bother.

We hadn't been to the Plough & Flail for some years, following a really awful dining experience. But, based on a friend's recommendation, we visited last night (Saturday) with another couple, to give it a try - and were so glad we did! We received a really warm welcome and were seated near a lovely log fire. The service throughout was professional and friendly. We chose a variety of dishes. My wife and I started with the Creamy Stilton Mushrooms, which were amazing. I then had a perfectly cooked Ribeye Steak and my wife had the Honey Roast Duck Breast. All of us found our meals generous, nicely presented and really tasty. Only one of us had room for a sweet - Baked Banana Bread - which looked so good and soon disappeared! Having then had coffee, we left feeling very satisfied, and so pleased we could now add the Plough and Flail to our 'go to' list again. And for us, we will have the bonus that next time we can take our dog too!

Dan and Laura have done an amazing job at the Plough, they are so friendly and work really hard. The young staff are very pleasant and happy to help. We have eaten here a few times recently, the food has been lovely. Tonight my fish pie was tasty and nourishing. Next time I have to try the baked banana bread, it’s going to be on my mind until I do! The girl on the next table said it was delicious and it looked it. My husband also says the beer is good so win win for us!! We will return.

We visited this pub several times a few years ago and were disappointed however we are so pleased we tried again last year as the pub has had a new lease of life. The couple whom run it are a delight and along with their fantastic team of staff they really look after you. The several times we have been in the last couple of years the food has been great. It’s dog friendly in the bar area, which is perfect due to all the great walks in the surrounding area. Definitely worth a visit, the people give the place a real sense of warmth.

Lovely cosy pub, we visited today (Sunday) and they had the fire going which was fab. The food was delicious and the service was amazing by all. What a fantastic friendly team you have. Thank you for a great Sunday roast! Can’t wait to come back and try the pies

Food gr8, service gr8, but after overhearing our PRIVATE conversation the manager decided that one of our party was not welcome back, despite her going to apologise. Don’t worry, NONE of us wish to return to this establishment.

Service was fantastic. Really good with my allergy even down to replacing my friends food so we could eat together. 5* from me

Went for lunch. 3 courses for £17.45. Great food and brilliant service. Lovely place, inside is very picturesque. Would highly recommend.

Just been to the Plough and Flail for the first time in 10 years and really impressed. Great menu and fantastic staff. Would highly recommend it. Had all three courses too.

We and chips and onion rings while out cycling,they were excellent and large portions.

Good decor, friendly staff and good food

I had lunch here with two friends, the staff were lovely and helpful, the food was excellent, my friends had chicken pie and cheese pie both with chips, peas and gravy, I had I think it was called Wessex chicken, all the meals were totally delicious, we all ordered off the specials menu and had ice cream for dessert, the pub itself is very pretty and I love to visit hear when I can.

The P and F has been great and poor and good and poor over the many years we have been visiting. It’s now a Lees pub and us right back on form. Went several times last week as part of walking a dog and each time the service, the food and the beer was excellent.

Lovely meal, service was excellent, perfect for families. We’ll definitely be back!

Our local pub continues to excel. We visited with our neighbours on Saturday night and everything was great. Food, wine, service. All top notch.

A great Sunday afternoon, the pub was very busy and we hadn’t booked but the wait for food wasn’t too bad. Food was excellent and a great choice of beers on tap.

Been twice recently for a roast dinner and we couldn't fault it! Atmosphere was great, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Staff were super friendly and managers Dan and Laura couldn't do more for you! Had a great time and look forward to trying the rest of the menu!

Called in to check out the classic cars who meet every couple of weeks, we had a great evening and sat outside as it was a nice night. We both ordered the cheese n onion pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy and it was superb! Dry crispy chips and the best cheese n onion pie, we both polished the lot off and for dessert had Raspberry ripple Arctic slice with gin and strawberry compote. We will be returning and maybe try out the fish and chips which looked delicious in fact everything that was brought out looked excellent so we will be spoilt for choice! Highly recommend a visit to Plough and Flail you won’t be disappointed

Called in on a Thursday, as they advertised that they had some great cars attending, which they certainly did ..but the bar service was terrible, surely they knew a sunny evening would bring everyone out, the service at the bar was so slow, I gave up, and went elsewhere...

A fab visit to the Plough as usual. Dan and Laura are very welcoming and run the pub so well. There's always a great atmosphere and it's such a friendly place. The food is always delicious and great value for money. Don't hesitate to visit!

I celebrated my Birthday with a lunchtime 2 course meal. The quality, portion size and choices were excellent. The staff are friendly and the service great. Lovely atmosphere too

A beautiful Restaurant, staff so lovely, friendly and very efficient, there was seven of my family that went for a meal for my birthday, we all had a roast dinner less one, absolutely beautiful meal portions enormous. Best Sunday roast dinner i have ever had, apart from mine 🤣 will definately return and very soon, thank you xxxx

Had a lovely meal, all chose something different and we were made to feel very welcome. The pub was very busy, the atmosphere was great. We brought our dog and sat at a table positioned well for that purpose. We will come again and would recommend it.

Called in for mid afternoon nibbles - crab arranchini balls, duck spring rolls and salted calamari- off the scale. Highly recommended.

We had a baby shower here, Dan and Laura were so helpful and accommodating in thr run up to the event. We were given a great space in the pub, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks (including great vegan options) and we enjoyed their lovely outdoor space after the meal. Thank you!

Not been for a while but will be back soon. Food was amazing and 5 clean plates tells its own story. The steak and ale pie was soft, very tasty and just the right portion size. Coffee and cake afterwards is a great idea on the small one menu. Brilliant venue for a family meal, wasn't overly busy on a Thursday evening but busy enough, and some classic cars outside to admire!!

Gorgeous Sunday lunch, really friendly service and a beautiful spot for a sunny day.

We came here last Sunday, there was 13 of us , 6 of them children. The service was amazing and the food was delicious! The kids were easily entertained with the play areas whilst waiting a short while for the food. The atmosphere was great, we will definitely be returning!

It was a beautiful day we chose to sit outside with our friends the food was excellent 3 of us had battered cod chips and peas the forth person had cheese and onion pie chips peas and gravy our drinks were served straight away after a hour or so rest we had apple crumble with custard and a blob of ice cream. Well done to the staff and chef. Well worth a visit.

WE came here for a coffee and a quick bite to eat and to see what they had to offer in the way of rooms and parking as we are coming here later in the year. This J W Lees is by far one of the best ones I have ever been to and the staff were very friendly and welcoming which I must admit you don't get in one or two J W LEES establishments. Definatley looking forward to coming back later in the year.

Dan and Laura were amazing as were Louie and Jackson who were super stars.The combination of excellent service,lovely atmosphere and delicious food made this an unforgettable experience and will we be sure to return very soon!

A rather average experience for somewhere we expected and hoped would be brilliant. To start the pub is a lovely building with very nice staff who are attentive and caring. The food seems to be the issue here, the menu was your typical pub grub, burgers, steaks, fish and chips. Which is all good with myself, but that was about it. There was nothing new and nothing exciting to pick from. There was a second smaller menu dedicated to the car meets which are on a Thursday night. I saw a wings and ribs platter costing £20 and gave it a go expecting a reasonable sized dish. What I got was a hand full of skinny ribs and a hand full of bland wings. Both barely warm. This was paired with a cup of chips and some grass like salad. Not at all worth £20 more like £12 with the quality and quantity I received. Hopefully when making an effort with new dishes some testing will be done prior to selling to the customer in future.

Came to a family party here. We were looked after beautifully by the staff who were attentive and efficient. The food was excellent and good value. We enjoyed the whole experience and would recommend it to everyone.

Old haunt back in the late 60's. Daughter up from Warwick, my husband & I took our son & daughter for lunch, love this place as it's close by yet tucked away in our beloved Cheshire countryside, next to the Alpaca Farm. Met warmly by staff, ordered drinks & found a table. Lunchtime deals always a bonus, husband ordered Steak & JWL's Ale Pie, Chips, peas & Gravy, son & daughter ordered Philly Cheese Steaks on Toasted Ciabatta with Fries etc, she's had the real thing & I ordered the Rump Steak with Peppercorn & Brandy Sauce & Chips. Everyone was saying how tasty it was, husband said it was the best pie ever, kids loved theirs & I was thrilled that the humble rump was transformed! Could have been a Ribeye! Best Steak in a long, long time. Fries & Chips were heaven on a plate! We'll be back! Staff were so helpful & warm too!

OUR WAITRESS WAS ALICE, VERY ATTENTIVE, SMILEY, AND HELPFUL- THANKS ALICE 😊 AND THE YOUNG MAN TOO-SORRY DIDN'T GET HIS NAME. WE LOVE IT HERE, OUR ROAST WAS 10/10! EVERYTHING WAS COOKED TO PERFECTION 👌🏽 AND THERE WERE EMPTY PLATES ALL AROUND US!! THANKS FOR A GREAT ROAST! AND A LOVELY AFTERNOON OF DRINKS & FAB FOOD!

I came here with close family and some friends to celebrate a 94th Birthday. The food was really vert good but the service was a little slow although he manager did apologise for this and it wouldn't stop me coming again. I chose the Black Pudding as a starter and then the Roast Beef as a main. Just the job for a Sunday lunch. I had with this a pints of JW Lee's bitter which was excellent.

Monday, Wednesday or weekend the experience is consistently excellent.

Visited Monday, friendly and helpful bar staff and comfortable place to sit and meet friends. Will call again.

The Plough and Flail has had its ups and downs and now is definitely in an up cycle with the new management. All the staff are polite and welcoming and the food is excellent. Typical country pub with great menu which has dishes to suit all. The Calves liver and onion is a fantastic dish and cooked to perfection J W Lees bitter was superb. Can’t wait to go back. Brilliant!

This was my second visit in 10 days here and have had a fantastic experience both times. Dan and Laura have really got this pub back on it's feet after the last managers practically ran it into the ground with their lousy food and service. It is now somewhere to have a great meal, very reasonable food and drink prices, everywhere is spotless, warm and welcoming hosts. I'll be a frequent visitor again that's for sure.

Been meaning to go to one of the pubs in Mobberley for ages. Discovered this is a JW Lees pub. We’ve been to a couple of these previously and had their ‘Cosy Lunch’ - fixed price for either two or three courses - so thought we’d try this one. Turns out to be the nicest one so far. Nice surroundings, open fire, friendly staff and the food was excellent. We both had prawn cocktail, battened rump steak and chips, and apple crumble with custard AND ice cream. Yum. Will be back soon!

We came for Mother’s Day and it was fabulous!! The food was wonderful and really reasonable - we had a set menu. Lots of choice and the best chicken I have eaten. The service was exceptional - friendly, timely and very relaxed. To cap it all, every Mum had a little bag of gifts - a primrose, a heart, biscuits and a lovely tea bag. All of this was beautifully presented. It all felt like a real treat. Fabulous.

We enjoyed a 60th birthday at this venue.it was perfect for a large group of mixed ages to meet up in wonderful countryside. The pub had old world charm, and prices were reasonable.

While I've eaten here before this was a first for a Sunday and I was impressed Booked ahead and got a great table in the bar. Key hightlight was the great vegetarian roast we had which we all agreed was one of the best, if not the best, we have ever had. Another great highlight is the cafe gourmand option for afters. If you are stuffed then they'll do you a coffee and mini pudding - just like France but here you get stodgy goodies instead 😉 Happily recommend this place esp for veggie and vegan diners who are both catered for.

Lovely pub and staff since the relaunch in January 2023. Well worth seeking out in the Cheshire countryside.

Popped in for Saturday lunch. Great welcome, nice atmosphere and good service. The staff made sure that we were comfortable throughout the stay and prices reasonable.

I go every week for a drink and also sometimes eat there, the pub isn't local to me but worth the effort to drive a bit further away, the new management have worked very hard to build it back up and I look forward to my visit each week!

We had a really lovely lunch today with friends. We were made to feel so welcome. We had a lovely table by the log fire and it was so cosy for a January day. The staff were so welcoming attentive and really friendly. The food was absolutely gorgeous , a 10/10 from the four of us and we shall definitely be back.

This was a random choice for a meal and a pint in unfamiliar territory. And a good one. Helpful staff, excellent beer (Grengate JW Lees MPA) and an extraordinarily good steak.

Such a warm welcome when we visited today. Fancied a winter walk on my birthday and then some food. Couldn’t have chosen better. Food was delicious, hot and such good value. The atmosphere inside is lovely and we could’ve stayed all afternoon sat on the...

We had an amazing time. The Manchester lager was delicious as well as the lunch special.
