I live close to a chip shop which I feel has gone down hill, so I thought I'd try the Lemon Plaice as it's always had a good reputation. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious, not too greasy, lovely crispy fish, definitely the best I've had in Tilehurst. Chips portion size weren't the biggest, but they were enough. The man and lady were lovely to talk to, which makes a change from many places where the staff don't speak. I'd definitely return.

In terms of the portion sizes, value for money and quality of cooking this is the best fish and chips you’ll have. Both the fish and chips are perfectly cooked with the batter crispy and light and they aren’t oily and greasy making you feel sick afterwards. The pineapple fritters with sauce are a must have as well.

Unsure if there has been an ownership change, but an older lady (management type) seemed perturbed to be there, with the attitude of a woman whose unhappy with life. I ordered a large portion of chips which came in at £4.20 however what I actually got was less then a small that I’ve purchased before for a young’un.(truly disappointing) The curry sauce came in at £1.80 but I received a small tub that was filled just less than 2/3rds full. I drove all the way from Bracknell to go to this place and have been doing this for years. But after being unwell and my hospital stay, I was looking forward to a perfect supper however sadly this place has changed into being just like all the mediocre places littering the streets of this town. Shame as sad to see this once great fish and chip shop succumb to greed and uncare. Overall 2/10 and will advise as many as I can to stay away from this place. Only because the management at the store didn’t seem to care about the patrons

Medium cod was same size as large cod,very very greasy

Although it was good friday , they still had ONLY usual number of staff , over an hour wait! , No food ready in overhead warmers etc , once you got to front of queue , it was still 20+MINUTE wait, For food, whether you phoned the order or not ! , useless ! , food wasnt up to much either! & too expensive .

Have eaten from here 2 or 3 times and always very good. Went in for 1 "large" portion of chips most recently and was astounded at the miniscule portion size relative to the price...£3.80.

A traditional fish and chip shop with all the classics. My personal favourite spam fritters that you'll always struggle to find. Amazing value for the food you receive and the staff are Britishly polite. My go to for fish and chips....could become yours also.

Every time I visit I always have to wait for long periods of time. Last night there was four members of staff working behind the counter and all four were just focused on the orders that had been telephoned in instead of customers that are queuing. After waiting 25 minutes I was finally served but I will not be using this chippy anymore I will take my custom elsewhere in future

The Lemon Plaice is a brilliant local chip shop. What makes this place unique is the fact that they can cater for small or large events. We have used them for catering to Brownie and Guide Groups right up to a massive street party. The food is good, always hot and packed really well. When we order for Guides they always pack cutlery, salt, vinegar and a a napkin. I would recommend this place to everyone. Enjoy!

The Lemon Plaice is a traditional fish and chip shop with lots of extras on the menu like chicken and cockles. The fish is very good and the batter is light and golden. The staff are very friendly and helpful and experienced. I would recommend The Lemon Plaice as an excellent local fish and chip shop.

Undercooked batter,slow service,tasteless cod,don't get orders right and miserable staff..just about sums the place up..

Chips could be better and portion size too especially for the price. No vegan options or any allergen advice printed. Needs updating. Staff are always friendly and helpful

Was nice but it's bit hit and miss.

Known this chippy for years it's still probably one of the best chippies in the area lovely cod and chips but I have to mention the battered sausage takes me back to my childhood champion 🏆

Queue was long, but it was on Friday evening. There are many buying in dinner. But the food was expectedly nice.

Friendly accommodating staff who didn't mind the questions about food allergies. Chicken nuggets dairy and soya free. Such a relief to find a chippy who was able to do this. Never find chips that are soggy, always just right. Does a good steady trade.

Been coming here for a few years, usually okay. Fairly pricey for the portion size, fish is usually well cooked but batter can be thick and greasy. Also, when I went there at lunch time the chips seemed like they were yesterday’s chips because they were papery, dry throat scratchers. A shame really, might give them another chance. Will update review if so.

Order and collect system works really well. My first meal from here was divine. This time was good although batter not as crispy. I think it might be to do with the business, might try a quieter time next time around. Chips amazing!

Mi hijo y yo fuimos aquí para comprar Fish and Chips. A pesar de ser el único cliente, a mi hijo de 10 años le dijeron que esperara afuera solo mientras yo ordenaba, lo que obviamente lo ponía en riesgo por una mujer ignorante muy cortante. Así que no tengo idea de cómo un padre soltero con niños pequeños podría usar este lugar. Tampoco es que recomendaría la comida, ya que originalmente pensé que eran un buen lugar sin aumento de precio debido al bloqueo de Covid 19. Qué equivocado estaba yo sin aumento de precio, solo porciones significativamente más pequeñas de chips de mala calidad. Y un servicio increíblemente lento también. Me gustaría decir algo positivo sobre este establecimiento, pero lamentablemente no puedo. Evítelo como una plaga. Si espera cortesía, buen servicio de comida rápida y sus hijos a salvo, NO VAYA AQUÍ. Espero que quiebren ya que será una ventaja

We ordered food for 4 people and it was beautiful and fresh. It was our first time ordering from here, we phoned 3 different chip shops before Lemon Plaice and they were the only ones locally that served Skate! We thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be returning customers in the future.

Ask for xlarge cod nothing else so easy 2 get right, got home opened paper to realise was a small, called up to say wasn't happy to be told I was wrong and that it was a small large which not shore what that means won't go here again and don't recommend

Acabo de llegar a casa con 2 salchichas en papas fritas medianas y una salsa de curry.No hay mucha comida pero normalmente todavía está muy caliente cuando llego a casa.Esta noche las patatas fritas están frías y la salsa de curry solo está tibia.Las salchichas estaban algo calientes pero no cerca de los estándares normales.Muy decepcionado porque el personal es encantador.Parece que tengo que encontrar un nuevo chippy.

Travelled to Reading from Scotland for family funeral. Tasty Cod & Chips freshly made. As good as anything sold back home.

Lady was very rude behind the counter because I didn’t know which side of the store to queue even though there are no signs denoting where you queue from and then when I asked for a large cod she scowled unhappily and said “well as you can see there are no large cod ready so you’ll have to wait 15 minutes” Some lessons in how to talk to customers are needed - I won’t be coming back

Waited in queue whilst orders were being made up. After an hard day at work I just wanted my takeaway. Felt my custom was not a priority so left and ordered a curry next door where my custom was welcomed.

Excellent food. Pick your time or order or wait. Worth it.

Came here twice to get fish and chips, both times it was extremely slow service and the staff were prioritising orders that people had phoned in. I understand that you guys take orders in advance but you need to balance this with walk-in customers, in the 15 minutes I was waiting in line you only managed to serve one walk in and as a result you've lost a customer.
