First time visiting this pub/restaurant, very nice place, very friendly and helpful staff, the food was excellent, unfortunately my meal was cold so had to return it, this was sorted out without any mither, thank you all for making our visit a memorable one.

We had the lunch offer - 2 for £20. Lovely fish & chips. Pie was a bit over cooked . Nice plateful. Had the sundae for pudding which was a bit dry. Too much brownie.

We had a wonderful experience at this pub! From the moment we walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere made us feel right at home. It’s also very child-friendly, which made our visit even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious and arrived quickly, which was great, especially with little ones. A huge thank you to Esra, who was the best waiter—attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend this place for families or anyone looking for great food and a lovely setting. We’ll definitely be back!

We arrived early lunchtime without a booking but got a table. Bonnie was the lady looking after us and she struck just the right balance between attentiveness and not rushing us even when the restaurant started to get busy. Nice atmosphere, food was pretty decent (beef cheek was nice if a little fatty, and the burger was pretty average), service was excellent. Seyna was a lovely host, props to her!

Lovely Sunday roast at the Griffin. Seven hour beef was amazing and the cauliflower cheese side always delicious. Seyna looked after us and was great!

At the weekend this pub is BUSY! I'd say it's 3 quarters restaurant and a quarter pub, but maybe that's because it's winter and sitting outside, in the cold isn't my thing! Some pluses, a real fire (I've never felt cold in the pub), although busy, bar service is reasonably swift, the food looks amazing but apart from a bowl of chips, I've not tried it (hence no score). Good selection of wines, beers and lagers, including low and no alcohol options, I think there are cocktails and hard alcohol. There is a big car park, which backs onto the river Thames, but at the weekend, it can be full! Age group, mostly 30 upwards, but I've seen families happily enjoying all the pub has to offer! One bugbear is it's card only and although that makes payment swift, it's annoying if you've got a pocket load of cash! Great place for groups, especially if you're down to eat! Overall, I'd say take a visit, weekends for those who like a busy feel and weekdays, if you're after a bit more of a relaxed visit!

Another wonderful Burns night meal at The Griffin. The food here is always exceptional as is the service. It's a great pub whether you're coming for a beer by the fire or a lovely meal. Always welcoming and great quality. Esra looked after us tonight; not for the first time, and was, as always excellent.

We Had our party of 20 people, there was no long waiting for our meals, the food was excellent, the starters was very good, the main meals were a good size, followed by a desert, the menus have a good selection, with good prices something for everyone, very friendly service from all the staff, and a special thank you to Esra who looked after us all, the Griffin is highly recommend, Thank you Crystal steps.

It was a lovely time out with family for a meal. Robert was a great server and the food was excellent as was the atmosphere. Good prices for meals as well.

This was a family celebration. Seyna looked after us during our meal. She was really friendly but at the same time professional. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she really made our time there enjoyable. I would highly recommend the Griffin and if you’re really lucky you may get Seyna to look after you!

I went to the Griffin yesterday with my mum for lunch while we were in caversham. I haven't been there for a few years but It was lovely everything was cooked really well....delicious...we shared 3 starters, the squid, the mushrooms and the baked cheese...all of which were so good we also had a cheeky bottle of rose prosecco all at a very good price and great value....the staff were lovely and accommodated us even though they were busy and we hadn't booked....our waitress was a lady called Esra who was very attentive welcoming friendly and on the ball, we didn't need to ask for anything.very efficient and nice....we really enjoyed it and we will be going back when we are in caversham again in a few weeks time. Thank you

Great lunch on New Year's Eve! We were attended by Esra who was great! The food was delicious too!

Staff were distracted and hard to get service. When we finally ordered food we opted for fish and chips (reasoning this was the safest option that couldnt be screwed up). The fish arrived and was cooked ok...but the quality was exceptionally mediocre...the batter oily and and tasteless and it was a 2/10 experience. We resolved to avoid the Griffin for food going forward....

Had a staff christmas meal at the griffin the menu catered for me being vegetarian although the food was bog standard the service offered by megan was exceptional. She was extremely professional and in high spirits which is rare in the industry considering the time of year! Megan had great knowledge of both the food and drinks which made decision making very convienant as i usually feel pressured and anxious with this kind of thing massive thankyou to her and the team shall return soon in the new year!

Great service and excellent food. Three out of four of us are vegetarian and there was plenty of choice. Seyna our waitress was amazing even though it was a busy evening- thank you! Free parking and lovely atmosphere too. Would thoroughly recommend!

The service at The Griffin is always brilliant. Staff are so friendly and accommodating which when you have 2 neurodivergent kids helps tremendously - it is one of our safe places to go that the kids are happy and familiar with. Great menu choices and tasty food - what’s not to love!! ❤️

I've been coming to the Griffin for a few years now, ever since I moved to Reading. The food is really good (it's a pub!) , there's a nice ambiance, but the most important thing for me is the warmth of the welcome from the staff. On this occasion we were served by Esra, who - as always - was friendly and accommodating. She knows the menu extremely well and is able to advise and if necessary, make little changes. There are plenty of other nice places to go in Caversham, but I always find myself coming back here, mainly due to the lovely friendly welcome of Esra and the rest of the team.

I have been organising 3 parties here and i cant stop recommend then! The food, service and atmosphere is absolutely perfect and amazing

Party of seven. Nearly everyone had a top notch meal. The atmosphere was very good. We were served by barbs or Babs. Really very pleasant and attentive. In short a nice night had by all.

My friends took me there for Christmas meal, we had lovely dinner followed by dessert and so many beers! Our waitress Esra made sure that we're having a good time, thank you Esra,you are great🙂

We visited this pub for our work Christmas meal recently and we were served by Esra. Well, it was not a very good experience at all, we were expecting a happy jolly host full of festive spirit. Sadly we got a Sergeant Major instead! She shouted at us all the time, mostly in my ear as I was her side of our table, she brought out our food without saying who it was for as there were some dietary changes so the wrong person ended up with the wrong meal so she had to then ask for another one to be cooked! She told us there was no Malibu behind the bar but that was not true as there was plain to see by the till, we even asked the barman if it had any malibu in and he gave us a funny look and said of course it does! When the deserts started to come out I was in the loo bit I came back to see mine with a blob of vanilla ice cream on top so I said I can't eat that! She then belittled me in front of everyone saying 'I asked if there were nay changes and you didn't say there was'! She was rude and nasty to me because she had got something wrong! She asked me if I wanted one without the ice cream and I said no I as probably wouldn't eat it, then went off. When she came back I told her that she was very rude to me and I showed her the menu on my phone which showed that the apple pie was vegan, so should never have had ice cream on it, she then said they didn't have any coconut ice cream so had been checking with everyone that ice cream was OK. I wonder how many other people were served it without knowing! She apologised to me saying she would remove it from our bill, then asked if I would like one without the ice cream and I said yes as I thought it was a good will gesture. When we eventually had to pay, which incidentally was ridiculous, she mad us each for a queue at the till so we could pay individually instead of us just paying at the table the amount we were due to pay. I noticed that my pudding was on the bill so I queried it, she said as I really ordered it she had put it back on. Needless to say we all paid without giving a tip. The food was OK, mediocre to be honest, the fish on the fish and chips which I had, was very small and not the best. It was pricey and we won't be going there again! All in all a very disappointing experience for a Christmas meal out!

Popped in with a colleague for lunch and the food was excellent. My picture doesn't do the gammon justice, it may look small but it was a thick chunk of meat and was perfectly cooked, juicy and tender and the slice of pineapple had just the right amount of cooking to give give it a charred sweet flavour. The mushy peas were my choice as I don't like garden peas and they were happy to accommodate. Lovely atmosphere and really friendly staff, will definitely be back.

Really impressed with this place. Booked for Sunday lunch and although very busy, service and food were both excellent.

Food was amazing but service was even better. I had the pleasure of being served by Megan. From the moment we were seated, she greeted us with a warm and friendly smile, making us feel immediately welcome. Her knowledge of the menu was evident, and she offered helpful recommendations when we asked for suggestions. Throughout the meal, she was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring our drinks were always full and checking in at just the right times. Her service was prompt, and she handled a busy dining room with ease, maintaining a positive attitude and a genuine sense of care for her guests. I would certainly recommend her to anyone dining at Griffin, and I look forward to being served by her again in the future!

Another Saturday night treating my lady, as always great service from all the team, well looked after by the manager a very friendly welcoming person backed up by a great floor team lucian and Bonnie and all the others. A very good experience cannot fault the food was very tasty and filling 👍

What use is a dog friendly area with high tables and stools so tall that you can't reach down to keep your dog in control.... so ridiculous

A very friendly Caversham pub, near the river. And you can take your dog! There is a special section where dog owners and their pets can sit, as well as outside at the back. Lots of water bowls for thirsty canines and free dog biscuits! And the food for humans is good, too. It's a great spot if you have a dog (whatever it's name).

Today we had an excellent Sunday Lunch at the Griffin. The food and service were excellent and the staff friendly. There was 7 of us and 2 dogs and we were able to sit in a bar area that allowed dogs. Good value for money and although very busy we were well looked after. Thank you Griffin

The griffin is one of our local pubs and a real favourite of ours. Food is always great and the staff are amazing. Dan has a friendly welcome, is attentive, and always remembers our favourite drinks (which we really appreciate). Highly recommend visiting
