World Turned Upside Down in Reading

We are regulars here because the food is very good (we usually have a carvery) All the staff are friendly and efficient. Kylie served us today and was her usual cheerful self. 🙂

Ryan the Manager was outstanding from the second we walked in to the moment we left. His happy and helpful nature totally cheered me up after a very tough day. He was so good with my daughter too and made us laugh. He is the reason we will come back! I have honestly not had such excellent hospitality before. The food was also excellent! An all round lovely evening, thank you!

Us three ladies go here for a regular meet up. We go for a late breakfast, which is one of the few places in Reading you actually get fried bread, which we all love. The service is second to none and on the last visit Jane and Kylie couldn't do enough for us. Thank you girls.

First time here and it was great! Pizza is well worth having, the dough is amazing and fresh. The staff where welcoming and helpful. Special shout out to those who served us - Emma, Suzy and Lojina

I am from out of town and had stumbled upon this pub looking for some good food. Coming in I was greeted by very friendly staff. Emma had taken my order and I was very happy with the service she provided me. I’d happily recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a nice pint and a good feed.

Friendly staff with a lovely big pub and restaurant next to Travelodge with a variety of food options. Ideal for families and everyone else.

Had starters, mains which included a carvery and desserts. Great service. Jane was so helpful with our stroppy baby.

We did book a pizza party for my 8yo daughter and 10 friends(5.5.25) We were seated in the back,kind of a reserve area,perfect for privacy and for the kids. Tables were set up and all drinks ready. The party was so engaging and well run,the kids had great time,love their pizzas and the chips. The manager was leading the party and all i can say thats hard to find an oustanding customer service but you can see its the normal there from all the staff. Kids were super happy and love it from begining to end and parents were well impressed and i had messages of how well organised it was. A hidden gem in Reading and we will be returning to enjoy drink in the garden.

Wanted to grab a quick and easy Sunday carvery and saw this place. Not exactly the best part of town, but friendly staff and fitted the bill for a nice easy dinner. Had a pizza party for my 7 yr old granddaughter and afew of her friends, the kids had an excellent time , the host Ellie, was great with the kids , even the adults that stayed enjoyed themselves, the kids commented and said it was a great pizza party , well you can't get better, then a review from the kids themselves at a kids party , all in all everyone had a great time , would definitely recommend. ( sat 5th april) .

Fun for all the family, great play area for kids, my go to spot when visiting family in reading. Well worth the trip, the cavery is very good value.

On Easter Sunday I collected a number of meals to take out, like we did at Christmas, the food was lovely and hot. The staff Emma and James were very helpful and kind, they took the time to help me pack the meals and took them to the car, really appreciate that. Everyone who had the meals said the food was lovely, and they were impressed with packaging. We would definitely do this again.

Lovely little pub. Good food, clean and tidy environment, but by far the best bit was the staff. All so attentive, really friendly, super fast service and the manager went out of his way to get us everything we needed, even giving us an extra yorkie and some ice cream for the baby. Honestly they were brilliant.

Always love coming to have our carvery roast. The food is amazing and we have a nice welcoming.

We stayed at the hotel behind this pub/carvery place, specifically so we could eat here, and not need to go hunting for food. We made a serious mistake, in that we arrived for carvery at 17:00, having not eaten since breakfast. The meats were lovely, if a little tightly rashioned for "go large" meals. The veg however was awful. The peas were dried out, and the carrots achieved a kind of rubberyness I didn't think possible. The potatoes were dry, and the gravy was congealed. What comes next may well surprise you... We went back the next morning for the buffet breakfast. We did so expecting our timing to be better, and it was. Breakfast was quite good, apart from the bacon. So the low score is here as a warning, do not use this place out of peak hours, what was on offer was very old, and even the maximum portions were mean.

Food wasn’t that warm when we went for breakfast some of the food was okay but some of it wasn’t. The quality was okay

This carvery has gone downhill drastically unbelievable rationing of the thinnest sliver of beef on a kiddies plate. This place used to be bang for your buck but at present it feels like we've entered world war 3 rationing. I do not recommend.

Been using the "Upsy" for as long as I can remember and am glad to say that since the present manager, Ryan, has been here it has improved vastly. Always a friendly welcome and always thank everyone when they leave. Beer is good and food lovely.

Visited this afternoon with my partner and Instantly felt welcomed. The atmosphere was so homely the food was absolutely spectacular and was cooked to perfection. The service was great and the staff was wonderful and the general manager was fantastic and very attentive. We had an amazing time and pleasantly enjoyed our food. We will definitely visit again!

Don’t Walk, Run to book your children’s birthday party here!! I am short for words to express my thanks and heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at The World Turned Upside Down in Reading. Our son had his birthday party here yesterday and every single member of staff here worked diligently throughout a very tough three hours with lots of children with the utmost respect, care and grace. As anxious party parents nothing felt like too much to ask and all our worries and reservations quickly went away whenever we spoke to a member of staff! To Ellie, Emma & Ryan, You were the most incredible hosts and brought immense success to this incredibly well structured and planned pizza making party Ellie, your hosting role and making sure all the children were following instructions and making their pizza well was absolutely wonderful. It really was a tough crowd but you managed this brilliantly! Emma, thank you so much for organising and collaborating with us to make sure all the kids had the right toppings and there was enough plates and spaces for all and helping to keep things nice and tidy for us all. This was incredibly important and valued as it just helped things move along so well Ryan, your just an incredible manager/leader/entertainer and you have set an example to all your staff so brilliantly that you have all gone above and beyond and not just with us but in every interaction you have whether it be staff or customer. This was truly inspiring to see. Thank-you for overseeing us all and we will be forever grateful for your extra time with the children doing magic tricks and jokes. They thoroughly enjoyed this! Lila (Chef), A special heartfelt thank you to you for being the most wonderful, charming and welcoming head chef for the day. Your organisation and ensuring Children’s pizzas were made properly and all their sides were replenished promptly was very very much appreciated. You were ever so kind and gracious to us and put our worries to rest. The pizzas were cooked beautifully and were incredibly yummy! Wife and I enjoyed a very nice and reasonably priced carvery yesterday, all the staff were friendly and helpful, the chef joked that the Turkey was in fact Christmas Chicken, we met Ryan and Emma who were very helpful and yes when we are in Reading, this is where we will eat.

Everything was lovely, carvery has good portion sizes, Danny was especially friendly and helpful.

Popped in here with my Mum today whilst the rest of the family was at the football. What a great find it was too! As soon as we entered we were welcomed by a genuinely lovely man (who we later discovered was called Danny). I don’t remember the last time I received such a warm welcome in a restaurant! We chose a table, ordered food at the bar, and enjoyed a fantastic carvery lunch. Roast turkey, beef and gammon. Freshly prepared veg and roast potatoes, everything was beautifully presented, hot and delicious. Every single member of staff we came across was polite, friendly, and helpful. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, had a nice atmosphere even though it was quiet, and was great value too. What more can you ask for?!
