World Turned Upside Down in Reading

Wife and I enjoyed a very nice and reasonably priced carvery yesterday, all the staff were friendly and helpful, the chef joked that the Turkey was in fact Christmas Chicken, we met Ryan and Emma who were very helpful and yes when we are in Reading, this is where we will eat.

Don’t Walk, Run to book your children’s birthday party here!! I am short for words to express my thanks and heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at The World Turned Upside Down in Reading. Our son had his birthday party here yesterday and every single member of staff here worked diligently throughout a very tough three hours with lots of children with the utmost respect, care and grace. As anxious party parents nothing felt like too much to ask and all our worries and reservations quickly went away whenever we spoke to a member of staff! To Ellie, Emma & Ryan, You were the most incredible hosts and brought immense success to this incredibly well structured and planned pizza making party Ellie, your hosting role and making sure all the children were following instructions and making their pizza well was absolutely wonderful. It really was a tough crowd but you managed this brilliantly! Emma, thank you so much for organising and collaborating with us to make sure all the kids had the right toppings and there was enough plates and spaces for all and helping to keep things nice and tidy for us all. This was incredibly important and valued as it just helped things move along so well Ryan, your just an incredible manager/leader/entertainer and you have set an example to all your staff so brilliantly that you have all gone above and beyond and not just with us but in every interaction you have whether it be staff or customer. This was truly inspiring to see. Thank-you for overseeing us all and we will be forever grateful for your extra time with the children doing magic tricks and jokes. They thoroughly enjoyed this! Lila (Chef), A special heartfelt thank you to you for being the most wonderful, charming and welcoming head chef for the day. Your organisation and ensuring Children’s pizzas were made properly and all their sides were replenished promptly was very very much appreciated. You were ever so kind and gracious to us and put our worries to rest. The pizzas were cooked beautifully and were incredibly yummy! Mandira: Thank-you for being such a wonderful help to Lila and us and in making sure everything was running smoothly in the kitchen! You were also very kind and re-assuring to us. We will be forever grateful to you all for this incredible experience you have given us and our son! We would highly recommend the The World Turned Upside Down for parties as well as general dining and we look forward to going again soon Thank-you ever so much, we hope to see you again soon!

Everything was lovely, carvery has good portion sizes, Danny was especially friendly and helpful.

Popped in here with my Mum today whilst the rest of the family was at the football. What a great find it was too! As soon as we entered we were welcomed by a genuinely lovely man (who we later discovered was called Danny). I don’t remember the last time I received such a warm welcome in a restaurant! We chose a table, ordered food at the bar, and enjoyed a fantastic carvery lunch. Roast turkey, beef and gammon. Freshly prepared veg and roast potatoes, everything was beautifully presented, hot and delicious. Every single member of staff we came across was polite, friendly, and helpful. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, had a nice atmosphere even though it was quiet, and was great value too. What more can you ask for?!

Plenty of parking and a warm welcome from Danny at the bar. Great service, family atmosphere, great carvery at a good price, would recommend and will definitely return.

Very nice pub and restaurant establishment with a Friendly local atmosphere, they have plenty of alcohol and food options, with daily deals. Super friendly staff with live sports and carvery (what more do you need 😄). Next to a Travelodge so great for hotel users.

Kylie who served us; was Great!!. She was very patient with our daughter who has learning difficulties. She helped her get her Icecream. We enjoyed our lunch with our daughter.

Went today for a carvery with family. We were greeted and lead to our table as soon as we arrived. We were served by Ellie who was very pleasant knowledgeable and friendly. The food was great value for money ( we had the carvery ) Even though the venue was busy there was plenty of staff around and a great atmosphere throughout our visit we will definitely be returning

Well cooked food. A good selection of vegetables that are not soggy and overcooked. Welcoming service.

The manager was fabulous. Our order got overlooked, and we had a tight deadline to go to our evening appointment The manager resolved this issue quickly, and then refunded our meal cost to us. This was a lovely surprise, and we really appreciated it

Fabulous service from Ellie & Emma both were friendly & attentive, Great range of dishes available in menu to choose and large selection of drinks. Carvery was nice with the most delicious roast pots. Overall good experience and reasonably priced.

Had a pizza party here for my son and his friends. It was amazing 👏🏽 the lady Suzie (i think was her name sorry) who led our party was so lovely and helpful. Real hidden little gem for a birthday party idea. The manager was really friendly and helpful with the booking process too. I'd actually looked into a pizza express party first and found them to be so rude and unhelpful I looked elsewhere. So thank you guys for giving my little boy and his friends a great experience 😊

I have been going to this establishment for many years now and it used to be good, until recently. The roast potatoes are always hard and have no taste, my food had some crunchy crystal like bits in it and was very bad. Today we had to wait over 15 MINUTES for two pizzas and it wasn’t even worth the wait. The pizza had little to nothing in the crust (we got stuffed crust) and it wasn’t very good. The staff were friendly and kind, the place was a bit busy but 15 minutes is crazy by the time we finished the pizza arrived. In total we waited around 30 - 40 minutes! Please make sure to do better! Wow, what an amazing pub. I came here on a Sunday for a roast and a pizza for my friend. The staff are so friendly and the pub is large with loads of seating. There's a great menu, which includes a roast served every day of the week. The roast was delicious with loads of perfectly cooked veg and roast potatoes to die for! Pizza was also delicious and tasted homemade. The prices are brilliant, especially considering the quality of the food.

Been here Before 3 years ago and didn’t have a great experience, decided to drop in this evening as we were passing, and Wow what a difference. Bar staff so welcoming and friendly. We didn’t have the carvery but ordered pub grub from the menu, food was hot, service was quick with a smile and reasonably priced and good size portions. We will visit again for the Carvery as it looked amazing. Worth a drop in 👍

I eat here regularly and it's become my favourite spot, which is impressive given that I live in Wales 😂 The food is always great and the staff are amazing. Highly recommend anyone in the area to pop in.

Very good Sunday carvery. Joshua was out waiter and was extremely attentive, nothing was too much trouble and he doesn’t stop! Will definitely recommend.

My daughter attended a pizza party for a friend’s birthday and had such a great time making her own pizza. She said it was really yummy and loved the ice cream with special toppings.

Went for breakfast and enjoyed unlimited English breakfast and tea and toast. Good food to start the day, pleasant surroundings and excellent service. Very good value for money

we had your christmas dinner and we had a great experience the starter and dessert we ordered was great and the mains wear wot we expected we eat there most Sundays for dinner and have never been disappointed we know most of the staff . the manager is a great and welcoming and friendly as is all the staff

First time visiting this pub/restaurant and I cannot fault this place. The food and service was incredible. We had dinner there and two mornings there for breakfast (2 adults and 3 children) There was a young man. I believe his name was James. Both mornings he was serving us when we came to get our breakfast. He was such a lovely young man, so helpful and happy. Definitely recommend and will be back

Always a pleasure to see everybody and especially for today. Ryan your team is amazing as per normal. everyone made sure everything was 10/10 We even had laughs and giggles with the staff which made it even better… Everyone knows us all so well now and we never feel unwelcome. i've been this place many times and the service was A* can't fault the service was the best experience i've seen in that place the manager i'm assuming he was even helped take my drinks to the table will be visiting again for sure

Amazing food and drinks! We visit every year before Christmas and always have a wonderful time. Table 11 is our favourite, and the experience is made extra special by the staff. We bring crackers, and they go above and beyond to create a festive atmosphere. Special thanks to Joshua for his excellent service and incredible photography absolutely spot on! See you in 2025

Stopped by for a couple of drinks before a long drive home, great service by Joshua who went out of his way to help me find something non-alcoholic to drink - they have a good range of options!

Mi hijo fue invitado a una fiesta de pizza aquí, se les hizo sentar en el medio del restaurante y se les estaba diciendo constantemente por ser ruidoso y salir de la mesa, había una zona perfectamente buena a un lado que habría sido perfecto para la fiesta, pero aparentemente que estaba 'reservado para la dirección', sin embargo, la zona estaba vacía. . la dirección y el personal eran EXTREMADAMENTE grosero, no volveré, y es una pena, ya que he visitado aquí bastante en el pasado y siempre pensé que estaba bien . . .

Good food at a very reasonable price. We had a well cooked carvery with ample vegetables or salad, the surroundings are modern and clean and the staff were polite and friendly. Definitely will go again. Great place for a budget meal or a cheap night out.

Visited on 19th Nov with older relatives. Had to move to front bar due to music too loud (one member of group had poor hearing) but the room was cold. Chania the barmaid was charming and helpful. Carvery was good. The event was spoiled by the manager using the bar as his office and spending long spells having loud business conversations on his phone.

Danny was an exceptional and tentative host that made our evening.

Visited on the 15th of December for breakfast. Was greeted by very good and friendly staff. The breakfast was amazing 👏 😋 All items available hot and freshly cooked. Really enjoyed the experience. Thank you so much all staff our appreciated.

Me and 4 friends came for a pre-Xmas get together. From the moment we were seated and food ordered we had a great experience . Joshua our waiter was very attentive and very friendly . Food was served in a timely manner and he checked to see if we were all ok.
