Yesterday we booked online for 8.45pm and an automated machine took our details. We received a booking confirmation by SMS and when we got there 15 min before booking the waitress or restaurant manager told us that the kitchen was closed. She said that she tried to contact us but there was no email or telephone number. I told her that we received a booking confirmation on our mobile number but she insisted that they had no contact details.

Sophie our waitress ensured all our food and drinks came out exactly as we ordered with all our changes, thank you Sophie

myself and family went there late evening on mother's day , originally my son had booked reading gate beefeater but on arrival after waiting 15 mins to be shown to our table and seeing the total lack of staff we decided to re -book at southcote beefeater we arrived 45 mins early as the table was booked for 8.30 . when we arrived at the southcote beefeater the manager went out of his way the accommodate us early which was greatly appreciated . The staff are on the ball very quickly our drinks order arrived along with our food. What a difference a good manager and staff make they all work very hard everything was like clock work . Thank you for making my mother's day perfect .

Super food reasonably priced recommend this place

Visit regularly every Tuesday evening after Berkshire Royals Dodgeball Club session at The Hugh Farringdon School. Plenty of parking. They serve a good pot of tea and happily welcome a crowd of 12 to 30 thirsty athletes coming to socialise. Been a while since I last dined at The Southcote Beefeater.

Friendly place, helpful staff, decent food.

My family had a lovely meal at the Southcote.The service was excellent! All the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The food was great, it was presented well and was very tasty. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

The service and atmosphere was good at the beefeater on Saturday lunchtime. Unfortunately the gammon was very tough and chewy so I had to leave most of it, my Dad also struggled with his but the rest of the food was good. I looked online and saw a curry on the lunchtime menu but we were given the main menu which sadly did not have it as I would have had that instead of the gammon otherwise, they didn't have any sweet potato fries either. Not my first choice of location but it was my Dad's birthday so he chose.

Took 45 minutes for starters to arrive. Dripping in grease unfortunately so didn’t enjoy. Steak main was fabulous, chicken overcooked, dry and burnt on top. This being said though the manager was excellent! Chased our food up before us, immediately removed from the billll without us requiring. Maybe it was just a bad night…

visited late evening for a drink but even though the staff were clearly waiting for us to leave, we we not pressured into vacating. The beer was quite acceptable as well. Sure, it isn't the most plush pub/restaurant but it was what was required. Update: visited recently on a Sunday for a change and, instead of my usual burger or mixed grill, I decided to try the Sunday roast beef. I felt the need to reduce the rating of the restaurant based on this. While the roast was cheaper than most others I had eaten recently, there was a reason. The beef consisted of three thin slices of about an inch square. While I had requested pink, it had been so overdone as to be tough. This is one to be avoided. Stick to the normal remade meals and you know what you are getting.

Excellent food and great service. Had a veggie roast, which I don’t see on menu often, and only downside was the roast potatoes could have been better. Visited for a one off for a family gathering, and was pleasantly surprised and overall everyone very happy with their meals and had a very nice time.

Surprisingly busy for a midweek lunchtime! Despite this the staff worked very hard to get drinks, take orders and serve. Food was usual Beefeater fare. Well cooked and tasty. Desserts could have been a bit warmer. Otherwise quite satisfied. Thank you all.

Working away and me and a work colleague were fed up with the lack of food options at parkside international. We decided to eat here. Good value hot food and great friendly service. Good value for money too

food was filling, atmosphere was cosy. I had a wonderful, wonderful waitress named Maria who went the absolute extra mile to make sure we were happy and well serviced. honestly the best server i’ve had in a long time made sure all our needs were met quickly and with excellent customer service.

Last time here we were upstairs by a door,, was a little cold, so asked to move, have been here multiple times, always great service,

It was a bit cold at our table so, we got moved to another table but all I could smell was a damp smell. Waitress was very attentive and cheerful but the food was only ok,not what I normally get from beefeater.

Was expecting a wetherspoons-like vibe, but I greatly undestimated this place! Definitely fancier than a spoons in terms of atmosphere and menu choice. I got a gammon steak with chips and peas. Chips were lovely but gammon slighty bland and I needed a lot of sauce with it. Price bit too high for my liking but I guess expected of a fancy pub? Service was excellent though. Would come again

Service very slow. Apple pie was cold hardly any custard. A bit expensive.

Portions have shrunk. Food wasn't piping hot ,only the onion rings were hot because they were forgotton and were cooked after eating our meal for five mins and reminded the waitress.

Food was of a good quality and as described in the menu. Plates were hot and the portions were large. However the service was extremely slow and not to an acceptable standard. Will not be returning in a hurry.

Surprisingly quiet, food was good, service and value excellent. Ales were just at end of life so guessing they do not have the turnover to support the range.

We had a family meal, 2 adults and 3 kids. The children's portions are absolutely tiny. If you have a child over 5, you'll need an adult portion. The adults had Surf and Turf. It was around £22, and again the portion was tiny. The steak was perfectly cooked and the calamari was amazing but it was advertised as coming with chips, a tomato and mushroom and it only came out with a few chips. I'd have happily paid between £15 but definitely not enough food on the plate for £22. We all also had a pudding. It was slightly disappointing because we all came home still hungry.

I am sorry to say the food was so bad. I had a Rost dinner well done the meet was burned and dry. It took almost half hour for it to be served. Then the replacement was just about eatable. By this time to be fair I had lost my appetite. I had much better Rost dinners in the queens arms reading. They cook for people in need and support. I was so looking forward to a nice meal and the wait also two and some of the time three different music be played weil I was there. Just madness and no planning or care for people to relax and eat or chat, as I had to speak over the 3 sets of music Never again. The staff wanting to listen to music in there work area very selfish..

Well what can I say....... Thus was the most disgusting place to eat food which took over half hour to get to us and when it did the so called well done best was so black ⚫ it tasted like charcoal..... I ordered beef and got lamb and service was just diabolical, if any of you cared for what you do youd do a down site better job.... shame on you £13.95 each meal joke never ever again

ive known the older staff here a lg time theres bn alot change the last couple of yrs not aĺ for the best. Their meals are rather disappointing quality again and options. The prawn coctail was has dropped in quality and quantity although the steak was done to perfection something not always achieved. The sérvice was perfect the waitress was polite friendly professional and respectful, happy to help with anything and meals were served promptly but without rushing us. Jenny who has been the manageress for very many yrs knew how to run a very smooth happy restaurant with happy staff and has now retired she was always very professional as well as friendly with customers new and old Ive bn going for the last 30 plus yrs and im extremely impressed by this last visit folk were sensibly seated to maintain social distancing and there was a very relaxed atmosphere which enabled folk to forget about the stress of the past covid issues and just enjpy a meal out Well done all at the southcote beefeater their meals nd more veg included though

Lovely place great food staff very helpfull due to place being busy . Big tip book a table we just turned up hoping but got lucky an hour later . Can't thank the young lady at the desk enuff . 4 Northern monkeys starving lol .

I was in a rush but needed to eat so I called ahead and explained my predicament. I had been here before but walked out because they were busy and I was moved to the bar area and forgotten about. This time was much better and I was dealt with throughout by Sophie S. She was friendly and happy and looked after me. What I liked most of all was that she laughed at my jokes. The meal was good - steak and chips with tomato / mushrooms, what's not to like!? Thanks to Sophie, I will probably call again since I usually stay over the road in the Beech House Hotel.

Great place! Good people and the food is excellent! You should visit!

Staff are really helpful and ask about allergies, more than once during our visit. Lunchtime meal. 2 course set menu. Fish and chips was good. I 'upgraded' to Haddock for a little extra. Mushy peas were liquid, no texture but tasted ok. My wife had 5oz gammon. This was very salty and was more like a thick bacon rasher but she finished it. Chocolate brownie and ice cream for pud, what's not to like.

Terrible staff manners especially Linda and Marie and the young staff members all don't listen had a meal with my partner and Marie messed up my drinks and my food and not even an apology for her mistakes complained to the staff and not even rectified the problem I suggest getting nicer staff or go elsewhere where you get treated better and respected as we waited nearly 20 minutes before being served

An open restaurant and bar with indoor and outdoor seating. A beautiful place at the intersection of two streets with a garden and parking..... I recommend it.

We enjoyed a lovely meal the other evening. It was quite busy but didn’t wait long, the food was good and the service was brilliant. We were very well looked after by Sophie our waitress who was very friendly and attentive. She looked after us throughout the whole evening and made sure we had everything we needed. Very enjoyable evening

We absolutely love it here. Food is always great but the service is terrific. The lady at the front of house, always seats us where we like when available and it’s much appreciated. We can never fault Sophie who was our waitress today. Sophie serves us regularly when we visit here and even remembers our preferences, very grateful! We will continue to visit often. Thanks!

Just love it, Julija was very welcoming, she helped with our choices for what to have as a meal. It was a good evening with a really nice dessert as an amazing finishing touch. Decided to try beefeater for the first time, got a table upstairs who’s the waiter was Julija ( hope i m writing it right) she attended my table i came with my partner, she suggested mix grill to share, we gave it a try, was lovely the portion and cooking was to perfection. Not too much seasoning as my partner loves. After the meal we had space for dessert, we ask her recommendations and she suggested sticky toffee. Was really good, next time we will pass by reading we will visit again :) thank you very much for the welcoming and service

Wouldn't go back or recommend . It was busy, so I assumed it couldn't be that bad or maybe the food or service made up for the lack of cleanliness, but no , it's probably busy as not many other pubs around. Pub was so filthy..tables incredibly sticky, menus also sticky 🤢 also chewing gum dotted about everywhere it was just rank. Toilets I walked in and walked straight out . Adults' food was edible ,nothing worth raving about, the kids burger I wouldn't have even given to a dog . Was also food flies everywhere. The lady I'm guessing was the manager also seemed awful as she was constantly shouting at her staff. It you want to feel like you're in the slums this is the pub for you !

I have been here many times as part of a local event organising committee - we have our meetings in the bar and then eat after. Food has always been delicious and as orders whilst the staff are reliably friendly and always check you have everything you want.
