Bill's Restaurant in Reading

My daughter and I had the pancakes. Mine the fruit option my daughter had bacon and syrup. They where amazing. Also had one and half year old granddaughter with us who enjoyed the children's pasta dish.

The restaurant stinks, especially on the staircase near the loos.

This Bills is in a really attractive building with great interior decor. It is dog friendly which is a big plus point for me! Good food, friendly and helpful staff giving excellent service.

Dreadful experience.. ok it was a large group but we had preordered our food which arrived 2 hours after being seated. My food was cold and the on duty manager was beyond rude when I wanted to leave and pay separately to the rest of the group. I couldn’t get out of there quick enough

It was absolutely brilliant night catching up with my old Army buddies 50 years after we joined up.

We were looked after exceptionally well by the Reading team last night who went above and beyond to accommodate us and my grandma, who isn't too mobile. Food was delicious as always! Highly recommend

Breakfast arrived cold and some items did not match description on menu. Good service and decor but was disappointing food.

Stopped by and got a table outside. Much more interesting decor than your average bills. Friendly staff.

Sunday brunch. Booking of 6. 6 drinks ordered, 5 meals ordered. A pretty simple booking. 1 of the drinks was wrong. 3 of the meals were wrong. The bill was wrong. Not very good service despite a relatively small booking! Food wise- chicken and pancakes were really not great. The pancakes are fine but the chicken was very poor quality and tasted worse than a cheap supermarket frozen breaded cutlet. I'd be shocked to learn this isn't what was used! Wouldn't recommended coming here, plenty of better places in Reading

Good food. Best banoffee sundae!!! The bourbon bbq burger has a little pipette to add your own bourbon...which is great if you don't actually want to add it and just want to bbq burger. Only complaint...is the coffee was not hot, but that could just be my personal preference for liking hot coffee. We've been for brunch before too...and will go back again.

The food is exceptional in terms of composition and portions. The house has charm.

Food was decent and came quite quickly. However, pancakes were overcooked and dry with very little syrup and had to be sent back. In addition, I dislike anywhere where 12.5% service charge is automatically added to the bill. The customer should have the choice to choose their level of tip

Decided to go straight from work with a friend for lunch at Bills today for 2:30. Had booked online and we were offered tables in and out. We decided to sit outside and the lovely lady arranged the table and umbrellas to protect us in case there was rain. Delicious meal with excellent menu. We had lots of staff at various times as we didn’t leave until 7:00pm! (Talking you see.) At no point were we made to feel like we had over stayed our welcome. We were not harassed or asked to go and all the staff were exceptional. I love the relaxed atmosphere at Bills and would recommend to everyone.

Food was what I expected but felt cheated that they added a service charge without warning which couldn’t be taken off the bill

Went to Bills for breakfast. 2 adults and 1 child. We had BILL'S BIG BRUNCH, EGGS AVOCADO FLORENTINE and a children’s pancake stack. We had booked that was fine. 1st problem as a dirty glass on the table. Told the waiter and a clean one was given. The waitress started to talk to us then turned her head and body to do something behind her whilst still talking. We could not hear/understand her, so she had to repeat her conversation. No apology for turning away. We were warned that the plates were hot. They were not, just about warm, and after about 2-3 minutes all the plates were cold. The coffee was luke warm and had to be drunk straight away. Bills big brunch, the bacon was insipid. The eggs were just about cooked but certainly not warm. The toast was probably sour dough bread and was like biting into a very hard biscuit. The only hot food of this meal was the tomatoes as they retain heat. Avocado meal. Bun barely cooked, eggs not properly cooked. And not very hot either. Children's meal. Thick pancakes, very little syrup, blueberries not cut in half. These should be done as blueberries can be a chocking hazard for a child. Not once during the meal did anyone ask if everything was alright. The bill came and we asked for the service charge to be removed, which was done. Now a visit to the toilets. On the way to the toilets, food on the floor at the main entrance and no one cleared up. Only 1 toilet working, ladies, food and tissues on the floor. So overall not a place to visit again. This is the second time this year we have been and was hoping for a change. Nope that did not happen. Will not be coming back any time soon.

A great Bills! Good food, reasonably priced. Excellent coffee. Great staff!

Quite good food, friendly and polite service, but a lot of noise and loud music that made our stay in the place difficult.

I have not been to Bills in a bit. It was mostly average. The menu didn't really excite any of us. We did end up having deserts, including the banoffi Sunday, which was more like a cheese cake in a bowl, with a small scoop of ice cream. The team did a pretty good job looking after us, but did seem absent at times. Oddly, the ability to pay online, with a great way to split the bill was a highlight.

Great breakfast. The only reason I didn't give a 5 was because we both felt that the bacon had been cooked for too long.

Probably best breakfast in Reading. Great selection and all very high quality, which is reflected in the price. Good friendly service but frustrating that the 12.5% tip was automatically added and because you pay via the QR code it's not easy to opt out.

Love Bill's for a nice brunch spot, the coffee is always decent and we love the pancakes here for a nice treat! Great for families and couples, there's pretty much something for everyone on the menu. Service can sometimes be a bit slow at busy times , but worth the wait!

A very good place with good menu options and beautifully prepared and presented food. Good service too. Busy at lunch time, with good reason! Update: today's visit was a great lunch. Brilliant Brunch Sharwama. The service was quick. Our server was rather rude though. She sneered when I didn't want anything while I waited ten minutes for my friend. And when the bill came, she wanted me to have it even though I was the guest of my friend. When my friend paid with her card, the server tried to give the receipt to me, even though I wasn't paying. What the heck? It was a surprise because the people working here are generally excellent.

The menu currently sucks. Where is the Mac and Cheese? Where is the Lasagna? Seriously weak and explains why the place was empty. No complaints about the staff, very professional.

Beautiful food, amazing service and attention to detail. Top tier awareness of dietary needs, they couldn’t have done more to ensure a proper gluten free breakfast. A definite gem. The vegetarian Garden Plate was so delicious.

Very tasty British brunch in the hear of Reading. Cozy and pleasant atmosphere upstairs with a nice overview to Reading’s church and exciting menu. Price compared to quality was really good. Although the variety of drinks could be more, there were a wide range of brunches and meals. I suggest the Egg Benedict! Will get back for sure!

Great brunch spot, very british and fancy place~ the staff was very kind.

I will start off by saying my review is based on being there in a large group so my experience will be different from smaller tables. The staff were really friendly and helpful when we arrived. There are maybe a dozen tables outside that are away from any roads so would be great in a nice day. We were taken upstairs to a great room that was perfect for our large group. They staff were well organised with the pre booked meals and had names against everything. This can be a big miss in some places as who knows what they ordered weeks before 😅. The only thing that let the service down was the availability of someone to take drinks orders. We were sat with empty glasses while we waited for starters. Our food was off a set menu and I went for the prawn cocktail which was great and then the burrata with aubergine which I ended up leaving most of the aubergine as it was swimming in oil and was well overcooked, the potatoes the go with it were great. I think my choice of meal was just poor as the rest of the group enjoyed their mains and given we were in a large group that is a win.

Bill's is always a good go to for a quick bite to eat. They have plenty of options for Gluten Free for my partner as well which is good as she is Coeliac and normally goes for the Shawarma. It would be nice for them to have a proper entrance outside as you feel like you are either lingering about waiting for someone to come attend to you if you want to sit outside or you go inside and deal with someone there if you want to sit inside. We have had other customers barge past us outside for example while we waited for a table because they had a 'reservation' inside.

Today I took my daughter here, I had sweet potato fries and calamari and honestly I was served one of the best calamari’s I’ve ever had! Skyla, Lilly and the bald gentleman, (apologies I didn’t get your name) were fantastic with my high energy daughter and were very tentative towards her. I am very grateful as they offered her crayons and things to colour in which kept her preoccupied along with interacting with her. The food was banging and service was fantastic. Thank you for a great experience, will be back again soon!

I booked the Bills Reading Restaurant for my manager for 6 people by its web booking page. Unfortunately when my manager arrived his name was not in the booking list. the worst thing is that there is no any way to contact them to ask what the problem is.

Lovely eclectic venue. Wait staff were awesome and food is brilliant and good value. Was served by Tytus who was efficient and friendly. Great dining experience.

Never been to bills in reading before and was very impressed. They managed to squeeze us a table even though they were really busy and Kasia's service was excellent. I'll be back!

Continues to be one of my favourite chains. The menu has changed a lot but food is great. Very tasty and with a nice variety including for those with dietary requirements. The place tend to be packed so I'd recommend booking. The service is very good and there seems to always be a fair amount of staff around. Very nice atmosphere too. Definitely worth a visit. The bottomless pancake is also a great idea, I have had it a couple of times

Super happy with my experience here!! The food was brilliant , very tasty! Staff had exceptional customer service :) The vegan shawarma is really good and something different from other restaurants that just sell burgers for vegan options! Thank you , we will be coming back sooon !

My partner and I popped in for dinner recently. As the weather was lovely, we sat in the little garden area, which was lovely. The service from Lily was exceptional. Efficient, warm, friendly and nothing was too much. An absolute star! The food was very tasty and good value given the portion size. Plenty of menu options made choosing very difficult. Thoroughly recommend for brunch, lunch or dinner.

Lovely building with excellent outside seating, attentive staff, and a good menu with plenty of choice. The food was pleasant & well prepared, not real "top notch" but way better than most of the other choices you have in Reading. So, to sum up, I'd say it's an affordable and good place to go and escape the Mêlée of Reading for a bit.

Popped in for a bite to eat after work - lovely staff - all very friendly & welcoming. My partner opted for set menu grilled chicken and I had vegan burger with sweet potato fries. I couldn't manage dessert but I love that our server brought us two spoons so that I could sample my other half's salted caramel icecream !! Gorgeous interior and the Terrace area was full when we walked into the restaurant.

Perfect spot for any occasion, waitressing was incredible and the atmosphere was great. 10/10 would recommend. Food and Drinks were delicious and loved the vibe our server gave off!!

Very nice lunch at Bill's in Reading. We were seated upstairs where the air con was just right to keep us cool without being too cold. The menu had plenty of options and prices were reasonable. Food was very pleasant. Deducted a star for the service tax which I just wish restaurants would add to their prices rather than specifying separately as an optional charge. Enjoyed the experience and would go there again.

Got a nice table here. The waitress was really friendly and did so much for our dogs. Food was delicious. I wish there’s hot food served on the dog menu!

Wonderful location next to St Mary's overlooking the churchyard. Never had an issue at this Bill's, food is tasty especially the weekend brunch options. It can be very busy but usually service is good particularly on the weekends. Staff is friendly and helpful with the menu.

Nice place, but very loud. Brunch was good quality and I'd recommend the place on a quiet day. Needs some more soft furnishings to absorb some more sound.

Just ate breakfast in Bill's and the experience was good except for the moody manner of some of the staff (but not all). One person in particular had a unfriendly and monotone manner whilst dealing with us, yet seemed perfectly friendly when overheard speaking with colleagues. I was tempted to reject the 12.5% service charge that was added but felt it would have been unfair on the other staff members.

Very good service and venue. Food was good but very expensive for what it is.

Went at the weekend with my daughter and was a little shocked at the prices even more so when I got home to find a basic cheese slice to each burger was almost 2 quid! You can buy 4kg of cheese for a fiver! I'm not sure if this is harrods cheddar but I cannot justify 18.25 on a burger and then fries in a bucket. What's worse they are actually in a little paper cone which is hidden in the bucket so you get even less for your money. Absolutely never again unless I've got someone else paying as 2 drinks and 2 burgers and I'm 57 quid lighter!!!!

This is no ordinary place to eat. From the moment you enter the door you're hit by exquisite design and friendly service. It feels like every inch of this place has been thought about carefully and this extends to the menu. The food is served quickly and is superbly presented and the flavours are a fusion that just works. If you're in Reading you should make a visit a priority. Outstanding.

Party of 6. Limited menu choices. Struggled to find starter & main. Halloumi starter was very good. Asked for steak to be blue but got rare. Husband had prawn cocktail - 3 prawns hanging on the side of the bowl with a lot of lettuce & avocado in the bowl with a bit of sauce - rip off. Staff were excellent, although due to lack of space they had to pass the plates along. Not overly impressed by the experience.

I love the menu at Bill's- it's been a long time favorite. But as a single diner, I'm dissapointed with how challenging it is to get a seat. Every time I walk in, at any time of the day, the black haired lady who it typically front of house will humm, ha, make a fuss, examine the bookings list, look around at the empty unreserved tables, then tell me it will be a 'few minutes'. 10 minutes later after standing in the entrance, if I'm still there, I'll be given one of the empty tables. I'm well dressed, willing to spend in a decent environment, and often bring a group, and live a short distance away. But as a single diner, I'm discouraged from dining even at off peak times. Goodbye Bill's- it was good while it lasted, but your current front of house staff are too snobbish to bother with, and regularly upset customers (not just me). I'm tired of being treated like a second class citizen just because I walk in the door alone when there are plenty of tables.

Decided to book this place for lunch for mother's day with the kids and boy it was really good. Food and atmosphere was fantastic and the service was on point. We even got a free desert because of the day.
