Our son booked for the four of us to have a meal and catch up as we have all been so busy , this was my husband’s and I first time here. On entering the pub we were greeted with a very warm welcome from the staff, we were seated and thought the halloween was amazing, the staff were very friendly, helpful and didn’t feel we were being rushed. The food was to die for , I think I changed my mind three or four times lol, as for the pudding that was absolutely amazing , we had the toffee and peanut butter crumble very yummy and not to sweet. We are definitely returning. To the staff thank you for making our evening wonderful

Genuine Dickensian pub with authentic atmosphere to match, very friendly and competent staff, excellent, well kept beer, well thought lunch menu matched by quality and size of portions and all at extremely reasonable prices. An absolute must if in the area and accomodation is available, plus it is opposite the church boasting Europe's best brass rubbing and in a charming Kent village. GO!

We stayed here as we had a wedding nearby, the room was lovely but let down by the dust and cobwebs, we loved the four poster bed and dickens 'theme' but we thought it was let down a bit with the very modern bedside lamps, mirror, leather sofa and energy saving bulbs in the chandelier I know it sounds silly but we just think swapping these for some more old fashioned items would be more in keeping with the look and feel of the place, the room was also quite cold but the quilt was thick enough the keep us warm and the bed was very comfy and the room was quiet.. We had a good night's sleep plus breakfast was perfect! Thank you.

Really disappointing meals, and service. Fish and Chips, very poor, uncooked batter. When questioned wether Fish was from a packet, they insisted it was, battered by the Chef. Unfortunately both Fish were identical in size, and we are old enough, and experienced enough to know, that the Fish was not freshly battered. Honesty, is always the best policy. We have been here a few times, and enjoyed past Lunches, but this will be the last.

£16 2 course lunch menu - I wish I’d read the May review… Totally agree, the fish was a solid lump of batter, wet inside, grey looking poor quality. Chips were dry and tasteless, best thing was the peas and tartare sauce. Alabama fudge cake was sweet and synthetic - I gave up on the ice cream which tasted grainy and bland it might have been vanilla. Husband had the baked Brie (deep fried) and was ok but the sliced baguette was a jawbreaker, the pea shoots and tomato relish were a nice touch. He had the fish and chips too; smothered it in vinegar, tomato sauce and when that ran out, bbq. He was hungry. The landlady did not ask how our meals were as she walked passed with 2 plates of fish and chips that a couple in front of us complained about. Other bar staff cleared our table but didn't ask, even though I’d left so much on the plate. I apologise for not complaining but the staff must have got the message - with other people enjoying the lovely garden, a nice day and a drink for once, I didn’t want to make a fuss.

Enjoyed a pint or two here. Good atmosphere. For once not dominated by “that table is reserved for people who are eating”. Friendlier reception than I have had in the past. It’s an incredibly atmospheric pace oozing with history. Just sometimes they forget that reputation is built on the people who pay their money now, not by the fact the Dickens enjoyed it a long time ago. Not this time. Was a really welcoming experience. Hope they continue to deliver like this.

Ordered the £19 three course lunch meal. Thought it was cheap and wondered if the food would be OK. Unfortunately it wasn’t. The fish and chips was dreadful…the fish was grey and watery and looked like it had been in the freezer for years. No point in offering a 2 or 3 course option at a cheap price if you are going to serve up such poor quality food. I would suggest putting the price up and make sure what comes out of your kitchen is edible. There is no way we will be eating there again unless there is a big improvement.

Absolutely no access for a mobility scooter, offered entry by way of front of house which was impossible as a step reduced way in. In addition a mobility scooter does not come under the category of all terrain. I admit that the member of staff offered to move the armchair to allow access and the fact of the age of the building. We will visit in the summer knowing the garden has ample room for our visit with the scooter.

Stayed 1 night at the end of February, location was amazing great little village. Dinner was tasty and plenty to choose from, breakfast was full English and again very nice and lots of it. The only downside was how cold it was in the room and bar/eating area, central heating was available non existent in room just a small oil heater which wasn't ample enough to heat bedroom and bathroom. Wore a coat while eating breakfast. I understand how expensive gas central heating is to heat such a large old building but the experience would of been 5 stars if it was a lot warmer.

We’ve eaten here for both full English breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and late night snacks when we’ve also had a beautiful stay in the hotel. Would highly recommend! Vegetable curry was something I will never forget.Got rice, assorted veg and lettuce on the side. It wasn't bland, it was tasteless. Frozen veg cooked in veg stock. There was a bit of watery fluid at the bottom of the bowl. When my replacement, scampi and chips arrived, my friend had almost finished their meal. Scampi and chips tasted like they went straight from freezer to deep fat fryer. The interior is lovely, the waitress was great but the food, wow, just wow. Booked for the 3rd Saturday after lockdown. Pub does not provide drinks list. We were served after 20 minutes by a bar-person wearing red & blue trousers. When we asked what beers the pub served, we received an eye roll and a comment of ‘all of them’. Then with our taken aback looks 3-4 beers were listed. I then asked if the pub served Aperol Spritz, I received the comment ‘I don’t even know what that is.’ The dismissive, rude and unprofessional behaviour from the aforementioned bar-person tainted our experience of eating and drinking here. After about 10 minutes our drinks hadn’t arrived and other patrons who had ordered after us had received theirs. I then requested an update on when we can receive them from the blue haired bar-person who gave us our drinks really quickly. Our food then arrived. 5/10 minutes after, the initially mentioned bar-person brought our drinks. If I hadn’t have requested our drinks previously, we’d have had them after our food arrived and a 40 minute wait, which is less than ideal. After we had eaten, we ordered more drinks from the blue haired bar-person who was really professional and friendly. Please give our thanks to her. Hopefully when we visit again, we won’t have to deal with a rude bar-person.

We were asked to scan our phones via Track and Trace NHS Code on the front door, shown to our table via a 1 way system, for which we needed to wear our masks, once seated we could remove them. The menu had a good selection of Starters, Mains and desserts from the “Throw away” paper menu, the staff were pleasant and polite, the Victorian beamed decor was clean with hand sanitizers on hand and the food was good, all done by a waitress system. My only criticism would be there isn’t a updated menu on their website, but I’m guessing with the throwaway paper menus that maybe they change from day to day. It’s certainly worth a visit, the car parking is ample and there is a garden as well

Visited here as a couple recently. Was met by inconsiderate locals standing in the place where I had to give over my details, not following the government guidelines. Seated inside with a phone constantly ringing with no one answering it even tho I appeared three members of staff were standing around doing nothing. Next... drinks were delivered, hair found in partners drink and second drinks order arrived wrong and was told by waitress that I was wrong even tho she did not pour the drink or offer to check with bar staff if the order was wrong. (Terrible customer service). Shortly after this, arguments erupted between staff behind the bar regarding wrong orders which was very noisy and heard by everyone within the restaurant which again displays terrible customer service. Moving onto the food, steak was like a leather boot, onion rings wet and soggy and chips were rock hard and drier than Gandhi’s flip flop. No one checked through our time weather we were enjoying our meals and once finished we were left waiting for someone to clear the table and offer the dessert or the bill, neither of which happened meaning we had to break the government guidelines and go to the bar to pay our bill (which came to a whopping £75 for 2 starters, 2 slap dash mains and two wrong drinks orders!) as we couldn’t wait to leave. Will certainly not be returning! But as we are polite British human beings, the need to create a scene within the pub is not our style but we are very excited to hear your response and excuses.

Stopped off for Sunday lunch after a walk. After a very good experience last summer I recommended it to friends. Well covid doesn't exist. Great systems in place to keep people safe but when you see members of staff hugging customers, dirty glass covered in lipstick and staff not wearing their masks properly makes you think what's the point having posters and one way system in place. We ordered 4 roasts and all 4 were cold. The meat was appauling to point i couldn't tell if it was lamb or beef. We ordered a 2nd round of drinks when food was served and 15 minutes later the drinks arrived. Not once did the staff check if everything was ok. No one offered a desert. When we made them aware the food was cold to what turned out to be daughter of the owner she said sorry while walking back into the pub saying her dad must of forgot to come out and see us. Not only the owner didn't care neither could the daughter stop and say sorry. That was at the point that we waited 20 mins after eating for somone to come collect money and making point the food was cold and glass was covered in lipstick. Eventually they took 10% off and knocked the drink off.Even paying was hard work. No signal outside had to go in to pay. Waitress didn't take the receipt after spliting the bill and asking her to check the 2nd amount was so much effort for her. It's been the worse service and food I've recieved in a very long time. Luckily 2 other pubs on the same street we will be checking out next time.

Called here on a day out, having been caught in a rain shower. My partner ordered a coffee and I had a cup of tea, while waiting to see the the food menu. Sadly only Americano coffee on offer as there was a problem with the coffee machine. My tea was served with a couple of pots of UHT milk Urgh! This was enough to make us decide not to bother ordering any food, so total spend on one tea, one coffee was £5. Staff were polite and wearing masks due to Covid guidance and hand sanitiser was provided. It wasn't busy when we called and we felt safe. Would not call in again if wanting tea/coffee as these were disappointing and put us off trying the food on offer. Why was there no fresh milk?

Had lunch at The Leather Bottle, Cobham with family. Very nice food, friendly and efficient staff and excellent Covid security. Quite a few other customers but well separated. Nice to get out in the sunshine for a quiet al fresco lunch.

Nothing on the menu to cater for a vegetarian... very disappointing indeed , made our visit very awkward as I’d expect to see at least o e or two options on a reduced menu ... will not be visiting again !!!

Came here for Sunday lunch the day after the pub opened after lockdown. We booked a table for outside on the day. Upon arrival the staff were all dressed up very safely in their PPE and faceguards. They took our names and phone numbers and explained to us all the new rules. We sat on our outside table in the sun and had a lovely meal. The service was good and we felt safe at all times.

Stayed here as a treat from my fiancee, expecting a hotel full of charm and character we were sorry to see that it actually just needs a whole load of refurbishment. The room was so badly in need of decoration. The room was freezing cold when we got there, the central heating didn't work and there was a little blower heater left to warm the room.Wallpaper on the ceiling was peeling off, holes in the wall where things had been previously hung, but long gone. The bathroom vent sounded like a taxiing spitfire and we had to run around in the shower to get wet. There was no choice of cooked breakfast, everyone got the same thing whether they wanted it or not. On the flip side, the restaurant here is great, the food is delicious and we enjoyed a fantastic evening meal and Sunday lunch over the weekend.I would recommend eating here, but look elsewhere if you want a nice overnight stay.

Booked in for a Christmas meal with friends. First time visit to this iconic venue. Very atmospheric as soon as you step in the door, right out of a Dickens novel. Shown promptly to our table. Had pre-booked our Christmas meal so no need to consider the menu. Pre drinks order taken promptly with no problems. Some delay in being able to order wine to accompany the meal but once ordered arrived promptly. Food was good quality and excellent selection of fresh vegetables served although the Brussels sprouts could have been cooked a little longer. One quibble though, no serving spoons provided to serve the veg to our plates and when we asked for some were told to use our dessert spoons! We then resorted to helping ourselves to fresh spoons from another table when the desserts were served as none were forthcoming from the staff at that stage. Luckily it wasn’t too busy! All in all enjoyed the meal and the olde worlde surroundings they just need to polish up the service a little.

A nice place for lunch after a mornings walk! Service was friendly and efficient. My food was excellent, although on the heavy side price wise. I suppose you pay for good quality. The property has character and altogether a pleasant experience.

I visited with my Mum on Wednesday evening. I haven’t eaten here in such a long time so I was excited to see how it was. My mum had the steak and mushroom pie, with broccoli and green beans-which were cooked just right as they had a little crunch to them still, she swapped the mash for chips and got a side of extra gravy, now the gravy was absolutely gorgeous I kept dipping my chips in it.. I want to go back solely for the gravy! I had the steak burger with chips and coleslaw. The burger was delicious the chips were good and so was the slaw. I also enjoyed a lovely glass of Rioja. Will be eating here more often rather then just grabbing a drink like usual. It’s always been on my fave pubs as it’s cosy inside and all the Charles Dickens books/photos around too.

Another visit here to bring family along to, what is fast becoming my favourite place to eat. The pie was proper nice so give that a try when you go. Plenty to choose from on the menu and I’ll probably work my way through it. Another enjoyable evening at The Leather Bottle - thank you.

Where do we start in this dreadful experience, we had booked a table for four in the restaurant but on arrival were told it was cold in there so go into the bar!!??Ordering from a poorish choice menu was slow and then service to the table was slow, that was just the beginning. My plate was stone cold when the meal arrived, the steak? in the Steak and Mushroom pie was very very tough, the French beans were warm but effectively raw they were so hard, the new potatoes were barely cooked enough, some of them were hard in the middle, the peas were fine!!Now you might say why didn’t you complain, quite right too, but a close friend had chosen the venue and taken us there so I didn’t want to embarrass her. Had I been just with my wife the whole lot would have gone back, I would have been ashamed to serve that meal. We eat out quite a lot so reckon we are fair judges of restaurant meals, this was a disgrace and needless to say will not be visiting there again at anytime!Giving it a one star review is being over generous but you don’t have a lower choice!

Having driven around for a while to find somewhere to eat and drink in from the previous night. My husband thought it would be most appropriate to dine here where Charles Dickens most frequented. As I had previously booked, we came a little early for our meal and subsequently were squashed in with a much bigger table of people which made it slightly awkward and uneasy to eat our meals. Nevertheless we had ordered a pie each. I myself having had the fish pie the mussels where delicious, however I felt there was too much salmon. My husband had the steak pie which he loved, however, he did find the mashed potato a little on the lumpy side.

I really enjoyed another meal. They provide a wide range of gluten free meals. I had the seafood platter. It had not and cold seafood. It was delicious. The gluten free batter is so light and crispy. Always love coming here as it has a nice atmosphere friendly staff and many options for my allergies. Highly recommend.

We visited for a quick evening drink. The pub has an old-world atmosphere with comfortable seating with nooks and crannies. Good selection of beer and friendly staff. We didn't eat there but the menu looked good.

There was just an issue, that the guy was working alone on a busy Sunday and he didn't managed well. He was really friendly, but if there's 2 staff, the service could be better.

When I walked up to the front door I wondered if the place was actually open as it was so empty, rundown and dead. I regret not turning round! Service was slow. I arrived 30 mins before the kitchen closed and was told I had to order quickly and then had to wait 25 mins for someone to take my order, then another 10 mins for a drink to come. Food was rubbish and not worth the price.
