The George in Gravesham

Been using the pub as a working space for the past week and they’ve been absolutely fantastic, I was provided with somewhere to charge my laptop throughout and the day and was served some brilliant food, the breakfast carvery comes with fresh eggs with a perfect runny told, I’d happily reccomend to anyone in the area

Great food, great service and a pleasure to visit

We were told only the bar menu at 5pm on Sunday 12/01 there was 7 of us.we had burgers with bacon.the burgers and bacon were black charcoal.i was so hungry after waiting over an hour i ate it but all i could taste after was a burnt taste.the only thing our group had that was edible was cheesy chips.it has put us off returning as we took visiting family and was so embarrassed hence why i didn’t complain.we saw the carvery was still open and a table came in after us who had carvery gather they booked earlier.its a shame as its our local pub but feel we won’t be visiting any time soon.The tables were all dirty and hadn’t been cleared.

A group of us had their "festive lunch" today. Starter was good, dessert ok, but the xmas dinner pie was extremely disappointing, served with mash and peas. Not festive at all. Then they took 40 minutes to sort out the bill - tried overcharging us 3 times! We definitely won't be back!

Lovely meal. It would have been better for us to be asked what we wanted to eat without having to find a waitress as the carvery is not on the app and we spent ages trying to work out how to order this. Carvery was delicious but would be better if the roast potato’s were crispy.

We come here for breakfast often and are usually served by a female manager. We came along today and the carvery breakfast was looking very empty, but never the less tasty. However when we originally got there we asked for our eggs, toast and waffles and even heard this relayed to the kitchen. We got our toast and eggs and enjoyed the buffet options and were waiting for our waffles. Once we finally found the waitress we asked if we could get a waffle each and then continued to wait for half an hour only for her to tell us that they didn’t have any, I wouldn’t have minded but I had waited for so long for waffles (we were the only table of customers in the building). We went to pay and she informed us she needed to remove the waffles from our bill seems there were none in stock, however it is clearly advertised on their Facebook that waffles are included in the unlimited carvery breakfast. When we questioned why we were going to be charged for them she said that because there weren’t any in the pot on the carvery buffet (which I don’t see how that’s my problem) that we had to pay for them separately??? Now I understand why there wasn’t any on the buffet but sometimes the manager does just bring them to you by order. But I still don’t understand her logic? So you are saying that if they had run out of sausages on the buffet that I would then have to buy them separately? Honestly the food was nice but the service was terrible, the woman was slow and honestly didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. No excuse when we were the only customers.

Had the very enjoyable tandoori chicken, there was way too much to eat all of it unfortunately. Was served by a very smiley and welcoming server (Leah) I was only looking for a quick meal as I was hungry but was served a very lovely meal especially considering the price.

We had the pleasure of being served by Kacey during our visit, and I couldn’t be more impressed with her service. She was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Kacey’s positive attitude and professionalism truly stood out, and she made the entire dining experience enjoyable. Thank you, Kacey, for your outstanding service - we’ll definitely be returning!

Great pub they’re all really friendly, Jess is a great manager. We come here regularly for a carvery, and came here for Christmas dinner last year and we’re coming back again this year really looking forward to it!

Este lugar tiene mucho potencial, pero realmente se defrauda debido a estar mal dirigido. La última vez que fuimos la comida tomó más de una hora y luego nos dijeron que los niños querían helados serían 90 minutos adicionales, para helados! Ridiculous. Anteriormente sonó sobre una mesa para 12 y dijeron que no tendrán suficiente comida! ¡Esto les debe estar costando tanto dinero!

3 times we have come along to this pub ,3 times NO barstaff were about we waited ages and went walkabouts to try to find them and each time the lady was outside on a bench on her phone ,that is really bad service.lucky enough the food has been very good and young man who came out with food was very kind.

We where served by Paul very friendly and helpful, we told him how happy we where with the food and service he told the manager and she came over to us to ask if we where ok , she was lovely, we told her that Paul was fantastic and the food was delicious, she took the time to talk to us, it made a change to have staff and a manager to take time out of their busy day to speak to us , the pub does look tired and needs a refurb? But apart from that I would highly recommend The George ,

The service was so appalling I didn’t really expect this from a traditional pub serving breakfast, I had to ask to have my table cleaned initially and I requested for well done eggs as I don’t eat runny eggs, the waitress brought runny eggs after waiting 20 mins with cold toast, I asked for well done she reluctantly took it back and came back 10 mins later with the same runny eggs, I politely explained to her again that I don’t eat runny eggs but she ask me so how well do they have to do it? I just gave up and ended up and asked for the manager, she rudely replied he was in the kitchen making food, dissatisfied I left and would never go back there again!!! No apologies nothing just got back talk within themselves. I thought with a big restaurant chain staff would be training in customer service regardless of the customer or situation.

Four of use ate here on this occasion and generally it's good. Food quality is what you'd expect from a pub chain , I had the curry , it was OK, large but not something I would go for again. Staff were pleasant , they forgot the sauce for my mothers curry , but did bring it towards the end of the meal . Desert menu was good and deserts went down well . My main issue would be the quality of the interior as a whole - chairs looked and felt tired and all seemed a little second hand shop. Entrance to the gents is tiny ( difficult to describe but not room for someone coming out and another going in ) . Soap machines had no front covers . Overall this is an ok option , not a good one, but not the worst. Needs some money spending on it , a shame as used to love sitting in the beer garden here as a child and worked here many years ago. Oh and you have to register your number plate on a tablet - that really hacks me off, but it's the way things are now I guess

Fantastic evening with great food and drinks! Not very often up this way but was a great experience will be back again! The team was lovely sadly I didn’t catch the name of the lady that had served us but she made our evening!

Sundays can be busy so I recommend booking a table in advance, in my experience the service has always been top notch and the food to die for, I will continue to visit for my Sunday lunch as often as I can, thank you Jess and the team you are all fantastic!

It can be a hit or miss, some days it's spot on and some days it's carnage. they still can't get the gravy right though as it's always super lumpy. All in all though it's a Decent price.

We are here for Sunday lunch. Two of us had roast, two ordered from the menu. The roasts have been eaten and finished. We are still waiting for the other meals. The food is good but it would have been nice to all eat together.

1 hour for a portion of chips. Bar staff are pretty clueless.

Food was great , asked the waitress if we needed to input our Car details and was told not to worry about it , Subsequently got a parking fine , have re visited 3 times asking for the Manager to write in and have the fine quashed , despite being assured this was done , it has not !!, have now had to pay a £100 fine , real shame as the Pub is nice but not worth taking the chance on receiving another fine and then getting no support form the Staff

I had a very disappointing experience at The Gorge in Gravesend recently. I visited the pub for just 17 minutes at 10:20pm, parked in the EV charging spot (which makes sense since I have an electric car), only to receive a £100 fine three weeks later! There were **no clear signs** or instructions about needing to register my car anywhere on the premises. No one from the staff mentioned it either. How is anyone supposed to know that?

Food was good, but it took longer for us to get our deserts compared to our main food, can't fault the young lad for that as he was rushing around trying to sort it all out.

Have to say after my fourth time eating at the George the standard remains the same …Really good ! I visited again on the 3/10/24 and other than Young George being impeccable as always …the management Lia and other lady on the bar Emma have been amazing. Now days it’s really hard to find this lovely of consistency, but we find it here at the George as a family or couple. Value, service and happiness can’t go wrong, chief is consistent too. Thank you

The George Pub’s carvery is not just a meal—it’s a full-contact sport. You go in with one goal: conquer the mountain of meat and veg before you, and emerge victorious (or at least still standing). The Turkey is so tender it practically apologizes for making you chew. And don’t even get me started on the gravy—it’s less of a condiment and more of a lifestyle. I’d bathe in it if I could. By the time I reached the stuffing, I was already three potatoes past full, but who was I to back down? With my belt now a distant memory, I may have lost the battle with the dessert table, but I left with honor and at least three food comas. If you come to the George, bring your appetite and possibly a forklift for the way home. 10/10.

Absolute delight! What a beautiful place to welcome the morning in, lovely decor and food that is definitely a good value for money. Have stayed near the George for a week and enjoyed every meal as well as Sunday carvery! Staff are polite and welcome you with a bright smile, the manager lady also very welcoming. Highly recommended!

My godfather and I went there today (Sunday 15th Sept 24) at midday as a last minute idea. I've always had good food here and never really had a complaint, but today was exceptional. So we arrived for the carvery at 12 and a young lady was setting up. Once ready a young lad came round and told us we could go up when we were ready. The lady carving was really polite and chatty, and the servings on the meat were a decent size. Every single piece of meat was cooked perfectly as were the vegetables, and the Yorkshire puddings were incredible! The young lad came round 5 minutes after we started eating to make sure everything was okay and if we needed anything. He also kindly helped a very old lady who was unstable on her feet and very slow to the carvery and back. These 2 people were the only 2 I saw whilst there, and if they were the only ones on shift at that time, they are a credit to your establishment. They didn't have a bad attitude, and nothing was too much to ask. And the young lady definitely takes a lot of pride in her cooking which is a rarity these days. All you can eat carvery for £8.99 is amazing! And they do very well priced meals during the week too. I don't even want to give such a good review because it's a little gem of a place, and I don't want it getting busy and changing quality or pricing. But credit where credit is due and today was the best meal I've had so far. They seem to only get better. 10/10

We were asked to place and pay for our order before we had even sat down or had a chance to read through the menu properly (we had informed the member of staff that we would be having a carvery, but we were not aware there were two size options, or that there were other items we could order) The member of staff at the carvery counter was clearly rushed off their feet, but was rude and abrupt. Cutlery was limited and had to ask for it a number of times. Half of the main course plates were cleared soon after we finished eating but it then took another 10 mins before the rest of them were taken. When asking a member of staff if we could order dessert, the member of staff said "no" - it was said with a smile but still should not have been said. We had to order drinks at the bar, in a different room to the restaurant. This felt very disjointed. On ordering a small bottle of Prosecco, it was handed to me quite aggressively, causing the contents to be shaken up. The top was not removed by the member of staff. Cappuccino was brought to the table without a saucer or spoon - no sugar offered - we had to ask for it. It was clear they were short staffed both in the restaurant and in the bar. There was little to no customer service - it all felt very transactional.

Don`t expect too much... Nobody to greet us on arrival.. Not particularly busy. Staff looked Morose and Miserable. Taken to our table by the happiest fellow there.... Paid for our food and told to go to the bar ( next room ) for drinks. We were not told of the various sized carvery we could have, or any extras. Carvery food was nice but I had a slice of turkey and a scratching of beef. I asked for more beef and the server looked at me like she was Bumble. " I can only give you a little " she said. And a little I got. Told to get knives and forks at the end...There was none. Plates not hot and not served with a serviette. Gravy pot was almost empty. Cranberry pot was empty. Had to wait whilst each of these were filled... with plates getting cold. Fortunately the gravy was fresh and hot to rewarm the meals. However, not enough knives for the 5 of us were brought out. I made do with a steak knife. My wife ordered a Cappuccino, again from the bar. Sugar pot was empty of sachets. Her Cappuccino was brought out and plonked on the table in front of her, without a saucer or spoon. No tea spoons available in the restaurant, so I found her a clean fork to use. Half the plates were removed after we had eaten. The rest stayed until the desserts arrived. Again, we had to order from the next room bar. They had run out of squirty cream. Nobody came to check if everything was OK, or offer the dessert menu...which we had to hunt for. All in all not the best experience. So long The George. You were good in the old days.

There was no-one around when I arrived, apart from fellow diners; and no obvious indication that I supposed to 'sign in'. Waiters walked past my table without stopping to ask to take my order; in the end after waiting 20 minutes, I ordered by mobile!

We had been on a long road trip all day, so were desperately trying to find somewhere to eat and we found the George. We entered the bar to be greeted by a member of the bar, who just looked bored and didn't give us that welcoming feeling that so many others provide. They didn't provide us with menus so we had to get them ourselves, only to find that they were sticky and dirty. After choosing our orders from the surprisingly good selection of food, we went to order and then waited for food to arrive... and waited... and waited. It took around 30 minutes for our food to arrive, and bearing in mind we could see the kitchen from where we were sitting outside, we were one of the first orders of the night, so it shouldn't have taken that long! Nearly every single table in the large pub garden was covered in dirty plates and glasses, like no member of staff had noticed it or bothered to clean it up - new customers were moving the dirty dishes from one table to another to free up space to sit down. When the food finally arrived, we were glad - but it didn't last long. Nearly every single piece of food was burnt, the fish and chips was mainly just batter and no fish, the garlic bread had nearly been cremated, and the chicken & mushroom pie was so unenjoyable, my family member had to leave most of it. We were given dirty cutlery so we had to find some ourselves, and weren't offered any sauces, so we then had to get up and search for some. Overall, this pub really expressed its staffs lack of care, when it came to looking after customers, as well as cooking the food they were going to eat. It was dirty, and had an atmosphere that made us all uncomfortable and want to leave - we will not be returning.

Came in for a few drinks and the lovely Emma behind the bar was brilliant. She was really polite and went above and beyond for us.

Cheesy chips were mouthwatering

Absolutely awful. Bar staff very friendly but restaurant appalling. We were five adults two children on a non busy night. Waited 55 minutes for food and they only brought 3 meals they had forgotten the other 4 meals. Chicken was so dry it was inedible and sweet chill halloumi Absolutely swimming in oil we did not eat it got a refund for forgotten meals and left will never return.

I came for dinner and drinks and watched football and was serves by a young girl called mel. She had good customer service and was very polite and smiley. Good member of staff

Went for Sunday carvery. Food was lovely and very reasonably priced. We decided to have coffee in the garden as it was a sunny day. Won't do that again. So full of rubbish, especially cigarette butts. There were plenty of ashtrays around, why's it so difficult to put them in there?

Had an amazing experience meal was delicious and so was the customer service by a lady called Mel who was very polite and took care of all our needs

They have made an improvement I got to eat with my family at the same time that made the vists pleasant. Gluten-free people are not being difficult.

Went for breakfast and was not disappointed . make sure you book your car in on the terminal first. we were met by Emma who guided us to our table and explained how things worked, our eggs were cooked to order and the rest of the breakfast was buffet style. Food was hot, fresh and plentiful. plenty of parking and a very friendly welcome. we will certainly go there again A++

Brought my kids along for some lunch as I have been told there is a space outside for them to play in, food was lovely came out fairly quickly, we all enjoyed the food and it was lovely to sit back and let them play. Nice pub definitely will be back over the 6 weeks holidays

Fabulous pub with outdoor space. We had a lovely lunch. The food arrived quickly and was perfectly cooked. The George is dog friendly so we took our puppy which made our visit complete. Thankyou to all the staff

Yesterday 8th August went in The George for some lunch bar staff were friendly had hunters chicken which was cooked well and hot good sized portion. Was told when ordering our food there would be a little delay as a large group had just ordered their meal. Nice to be warned of a delay but only had to wait about 20 minutes. Lovely service and fair price.

We have frequented a few sizzler pubs but we travelled down to the area and found this place. banging 10/10. great food, great customer service. we had starter, main. starter: garlic bread main: 8oz steak, rare, came out perfect. would come here if in the area again.

Nice sunny day so we thought we would go somewhere local with a garden . The George is close by, newly refurbished so we thought we'd give it a go... now I remember why I haven't been here for years. Ordered food at 610pm on the app. Table of 3 - 1 kids meal. 740pm, still not arrived... well, one dish arrived at 645pm but it wasn't one of ours. We thought it was. It was left on the table then taken away and given to another table !! At 720 we had a kids meal arrive. It was half a burger. No other meals arrived before the dish was finished. I went to complain. Waited over 10mins for someone to come along who could deal with my complaint... to which she was told I was waiting to complain and served a waiting customer at the bar instead of coming to see me. It was also a very long process to get the refund- no idea why. More people in the restaurant waiting over an hour for food. Apparently the manager had put an hour wait on food ... no notice of this on the app, and I wouldn't have minded but the meals didn't come out together. The garden was nice in the sun... there are some old, uncomfortable and rotting tables though so you'll need to be lucky to get a nice one. There is a kids play apparatus to keep the kids entertained. Decent car park. Only 2 staff behind the bar. I wouldn't say it was busy, but not enough staff to keep up with the trade. A real shame as I was hoping this could be a regular, local place, within walking distance to visit for a beer garden. Needs a bit more work than just some decoration!

We arrived in the middle of the England game so it was very busy but the staff were great and very helpful.

Recent review wasn't keen on the Drinking chocolate, said as much, the company came back and said that they would source the usual brand and did it ! Good old school customer service. Well done them .

This restaurant normal is very good but today I was treated terribly I am gluten-free and I was left wait for my dinner for over 30mins my whole family has eaten. Normally they clean and serve me today they told me I had to wait because they where busy. OK BUT 30mins how is this acceptable.

I've been going to the George daily for two years, had a drinking chocolate or two each day. The new drinking chocolate is awful, I'll be going elsewhere for that. Lovely staff lovely place. Shame really .

Hired private room for a function. Had the buffet menu, which was excellent. Staff very friendly. Room was very clean and well presented.

Yet again a fantastic visit to the George at singlewell. We had the two meals for £12.75 and they were brilliant value for money. The ambience, staff, service everything was absolutely second to none. Well done to the people who run this pub as in these challenging times it must be very difficult. Looking forward to returning time and time again!

Dropped by on Sunday, sat outside , there were cigarette butts every where and ashtrays not emptied. Not a good start.There's a great children's climbing frame to one side but the outside could do with a bit of TLC. We ordered some bar snacks, nachos and chicken wings. The nachos for two were very disappointing indeed for the price, no soured cream. However the chicken wings hit the spot . The bar staff were friendly and helpful. The Peroni and Doombar bitter were very refreshing. The toilets were very clean and bright. Will definitely give it another go when passing.

Best Carvery I've had in a pub in a long time! Food was hot and very tasty. Would recommend to anyone for £10 it's well worth the money.

Good local pub, great atmosphere In the bar, friendly staff, and just feel welcome when you pop in. Food was great, you have to wait a while, but that proves its all cooked fresh to order. Went to restaurant for mine and mum's birthday. Perfect afternoon, that lead into a fun evening of singing, and dancing back in the bar.
