Arrived back from Holiday got to the Pub about 2.30 pm they were very busy but still got us in for the Sunday Roast which was excellent and the Landlord even with His leg strapped up was at the forefront and still rushing about on his special cart. Get yourselves in there the Food is superb.

The Lamb at Weare is one of our local go-to places for a meal on a Friday evening, we've been coming here over 20 years and always had good food and a quiet but friendly atmosphere. So many of the reviews here and photos relate to the Lamb in Axbridge which is another pub in the town of Axbridge (believe it or not)... although I've never had a bad meal there either ;)

We visited for our anniversary meal last montg. We arrived and were seated for dinner in an area where people order drinks this meant we had a never ending pile of people on the edge of our table as they ordered and chatted to staff at the side of the bar not the main. At one point people had propped themselves up on our table! And looked at us like we were in the way. We then endured the supervisor complaining to locals and i presume friends about her work and unsightly hours. Our meals arrived promptly and we left almost immediately afterwards due to being uncomfortable on the table and in ear shot of the continued moaning from an employee. Our food was lovely just what you would expect it is just a shame the staff let the pub down.

Lovely pub in a nice village a great stop if your on strawberry line bike trail .but and a big the roast beef was atrocious they did say it was medium rare and it certainly was rare had to ask for a steak knife to cut the meat and we weren't the only one at £16.95 you expect the meat to fall apart. The roast spuds were cooked from frozen . Would we go back ... I'd have a drink but would never eat here again. 3 of us had the beef one had fish and chips the fish and chips was good apparently

We had a Sunday roast meal, and unfortunately, it was very bad, the beef was not calved from a joint, but my guess was from a bag of slices of meat that they thawed out. The roast potatoes were hard and the Yorkshires soft. On top of that, the staff didn't have a clue how to deal with customers, saying nothing to us after collecting our plates. For £16.00 per head, very poor.

We were staying at a cottage about fifteen minutes away, and the Lamb was mentioned in the guest book as somewhere to get great food. We stopped there on the way back from a day out in Wells and managed to get a table without booking. The staff were welcoming, and the general ambience of the place was easygoing. Our food was excellent, as was the Butcombe beer. The landlady was lovely and looked after us well. A thoroughly excellent night out.

We visited as a party of nine for Sunday lunch, were greeted warmly by a characterful landlord. We ordered 3 x Sunday Roasts; which were HUGE and delicious with plenty of fresh veg and incredible Yorkshire puddings! Childrens menu had plenty of choice.too, and staff couldn't have been more accommodating. .If you can order the bread and butter pudding, do- it's probably the best I have ever tasted, really melt in the mouth. This place has a lovely pub dog, and welcomes other dogs too, it's a very traditional free house, with some interesting local brews available. Open Weds eve-Sunday eve at time of writing, highly recommend a visit to this lovely place.

We had two veggie roast dinners. The filo pies were lukewarm and had a slight curried flavour to them so they did not go with a roast dinner. All the trimmings were very small amounts. Hardly any gravy. Roast potatoes tasted like they’d been in a deep fat fryer and not roasted. They were really dry, not tasty at all. Burnt/dry Yorkshire pudding. Cauliflower cheese was a porridge texture, tasted fine but strange texture. I asked for an extra jug of gravy and it took 10 minutes to come so I’d nearly finished. Really wanted a dessert as I was still very hungry but was worried that’s be a waste of money too so I didn’t order one. Despite quite a lot of front of house staff working (in comparison to Sundays in the pub I work in), the service was really slow. We won’t be returning.

We popped into this pub at around 8pm on a Tuesday en route back from Bristol airport. There was only one other table occupied meaning the atmosphere was a bit dead but then again it was a Tuesday. I had the small scampi (i like that they do small portion options), my husband had the steak pie. Both meals were excellent. I did read the bad reviews for this place which mention microwaved food and a rude owner, i do believe the food was microwaved but isnt this common practise in a pub? Also the food was very reasonably priced. Finally the owner (a bit blunt) was actually very pleasant and chatty. Lovely place, may well return if ever travelling that way again.

We had not visited this pub for some times as we heard it had gone down hill but heard it had picked up. Three of us went for dinner and the meals were very good. All three of us were sadly unable to have a third course as the meals were enormous. Two of us started with prawns and one with baked camembert, all superb. One had scampi and that also was very good; one had lasagne, huge serving with chips and garlic bread and salad also good. I had the 10 oz rump which was above average but huge serving of chips, mushrooms and onion rings. Too much for us all so did not try the desserts. Beer was good although landlord advised me he was a food pub not a beer pub! However the Butcombe was OK. The young lady waitress was efficient; the surroundings were a bit drab and the landlord fitted in to the surroundings! No welcombe, no thank you or goodbye, perhaps that is his 'charm'.

The staff and locals were friendly and offered us information on local walks which was a real help. The pub was nice and warm and the food was lovely. I ordered the Cauliflower cheese with bacon topping, served with crusty bread and my other half ordered the rib-eye steak with the usual trimmings, followed by the last helping of ginger and orange sponge pudding which was enormous! A terrible way to start xmas, a nice but old pub on the A38 , Beer was average, bar staff pleasant but a landlord who clearly didn't want to be there. Hospitality was not a word that appeared in his DNA. Rude abrupt and confrontational for no reason so this is somewhere i would avoid. Speaking to the locals he wants to knock it down, build some houses and retire on the proceeds. This is one pub that the English countryside would not miss. The following is an accurate depiction of the experience my family had at The Lamb in Weare:-------------------------------------------------------------------Yesterday my faith in humanity was broken. After a long day in the car on the way back from Bristol airport, my diabetic daughter suddenly said she felt hyloglaecemic. It was a really busy A-road and not safe to stop but I saw a pub ahead (The Lamb at Weare) so I swung into the car park. My daughter was grey and fading fast. My other daughter needed the bathroom and i also needed to wash my diabetic daughter's hands so I picked her up and carried her and ran into the pub with my kids (no shoes, leaving the car door open). The owner saw me rush in. I didn't have time to explain anything. Hyloglaecemia comes on so quickly and my daughter can go from normal to almost unconscious in the space of minutes. So I got out her kit and started testing her in the bar. The owner came over and I explained while I was doing it. He didn't look happy at all. I was told "keep your kids with you they can't come up to the bar." Yeah right like that's easy when I'm trying to test a really sick child. My daughter's test result came back as very, very low. A potentially deadly situation. It took two lots of glucose to get her back up. Eventually she responded and colour returned to her cheeks. We decided to eat (although I now regret giving the miserable git my business). My phone battery was almost flat and I had another half an hour to drive, so I plugged in my phone to charge. The owner went apoplectic. How dare I plug my phone in when it wasn't pac (?) tested. I would invalidate his insurance. I explained I needed to charge it because I was travelling alone with three young children and because of my daughter's diabetes. In case I had a problem on the motorway and needed to contact anyone. Tough he said, I couldn't charge it and end of story. Words failed me at that point.Had I seen a single woman struggling with three young children, one of them practically unconscious..... What would I have done I wonder? What would any normal, kind, generous, compassionate, humane person have thought??..... What if I lose my alcohol licence, what if my insurance is invalidated......... ? No I blooming well think not. SHAME ON YOU you sad excuse of a publican. I'm a great believer in Karma...... Have a nice life!

This pub is far from family friendly. I had cause to go there yesterday evening with my three children aged 3, 5 and 6. I am single and my eldest daughter (age six) is not long diagnosed type one diabetic and prone to severe and sudden hypos where her blood sugar falls so quickly she can lose consciousness. While travelling home from Bristol Airport on the A38 my daughter suddenly said she felt ill. It was a really busy A-road and not safe to stop but I saw the pub ahead so I swung into the car park. She was grey by this point. I needed to wash her hands before testing her so I picked her up and carried her and ran into the pub with all three kids (no shoes, leaving the car door open). The owner's wife saw me come in. I didn't have time much time to explain anything. Hypos come on so quickly and my daughter can go from normal to almost unconscious in the space of minutes. So I got out her kit and started testing her in the bar. She was 2.5, very low. Her eyes were rolling up into her head. And it took two lots of glucose to get her back up. Eventually she responded and colour returned to her cheeks. But it took about twenty minutes. My other two kids were playing up and hungry. I told them to go and ask for a lemonade at the bar because I still had my eldest daughter in my arms. But the owner was not happy and I was told to "keep your kids with you they can't come up to the bar." This is absolutely impossible. When my daughter has a hypo I do not have the capacity or the time to forcibly restrain my younger two children. We decided to eat. The food itself was pleasant enough if a little slow in coming. And the service was good. However my battery was almost flat. My phone had been playing up while in Spain and draining very quickly and I had not had the chance to get it fixed as I only arrived back earlier that day. I had another half an hour to drive predominantly on the motorway, alone with the kids. So I plugged in my phone to charge, assuming that they would be more than happy to help. However the owner was not happy at all. How dare I plug my phone in when it wasn't pac (?) tested. I would invalidate his insurance. I explained I needed to charge it because I was travelling alone with three young children and because of my daughters diabetes. In case I had a problem on the motorway and needed to contact anyone. Tough I was told, I couldn't charge it and end of story. Words failed me at that point. And that doesn't often happen. Had I seen a single woman struggling with three young children, one of them practically unconscious..... What would I have done I wonder? What would any normal, kind, generous, compassionate, humane person have thought??..... Would they have been more concerned with their licence to serve alcohol or their business insurance??? Surely no insurance company or the local borough council would take ANY action under the mitigating circumstances. SHAME ON YOU. I think you need to remove the wording family friendly from your website.

Don't come here if you want a plastic modern pub with faux wood decor and plastic food with measured portions and the obligatory 2 for 1 meals! DO visit here if you want a real pub food with real wood and even better a real open fire and candles burning nicely to set the mood. The landlords Dave and Sue actually own the pub, for a nice change, are lovely people and Dave is a real character, rarely out of shorts - whatever the weather!! The food is all home cooked and prepared fresh - which is why sometimes it takes a bit longer to serve. The portions are large so visit hungry!! I have seen other reviews of this establishment saying its poor - I think they have the wrong Lamb, as there is another pub with the same name only a few miles away. If you want real beer with real pub food and no music or fruit machines this is the place! And there is the small matter of 21 different gins to try!

Food took a very long time, which would have been less important had we not watched as the food (Sunday Roast (sic!)) was taken from a Tupperware box and slipped into the microwave. If this is not standard practice, perhaps one should consider closing the kitchen door? When we complained about the wait, we were told grumpily that they had been busy, "try looking at the car park". Food arrived ten minutes afterwards. What might have made the whole experience less irritating would have been some sort of apology, none was even muttered. But we we're mere passing trade, so we are worth treating with disdain. Avoid this place, try and find a decent pub in the area instead.

Went for Sunday lunch with family and watched while the kitchen staff microwaved the meat and veg. Meat looked and tasted like prepacked meat. Overall meal standard was low, will not be eating here again

We went to the Lamb for our Sunday lunch. The proprietor was grumpy and even had a joke about this on a sign behind the bar. Anyway, the lunch was not very nice covered in gravy. Veg and potato looked sad and tasted as if they had been cooked the day before and re-heated. We passed on desert,

Stopped here for an evening meal whilst staying at a nearby hotel. Food was lovely and a good size portion. The pub could do with a bit of a makeover, with sticky tables but worth a visit for the food and excellent real ale.

Was recommended by other members of the family so travelled quite a distance to get there. The food was of the highest possible standard but the place was in dire need of a makeover. The service was good but food of this quality shouldn't be served in shorts and trainers and the tables should be dressed in cloth rather than a sticky wooden surface. the cutlery was presented wrapped in a paper tissue as you would expect from a greasy spoon cafe. All in all, if its quality food at a reasonable price, this should be on your list of places to go. A coat of paint, tablecloths and nicely dressed staff could turn this place into something special.

We stopped on a Bank Holiday Sunday for lunch. The roasts were amazing, great roasties and gravy very tasty. I had a Ploughmans with local Cheddar, and it was very tasty. It's dog friendly which is a bonus for us, and overall a nice experience.

My first visit to this pub for Sunday lunch. Meal was excellent served quickly & the staff were very pleasant. My mother is really picky with roast diners & she cleared her plate. Will be calling again soon.

We were passing by and stopped in for some Sunday dinner. We both opted for the beef roast. The roast potatoes were balls of grease, the food in general was to a very low standard and both of us felt pretty sick afterwards, the staff seemed pretty nice though. Defo won't be back.

Popped in on the way back from Clarks outlet village and very happy with our food. My ploughmans was the best I have ever had and was very filling. My wife also enjoyed her jacket potato. The lady who served us our food was very pleasant but I have to agree with some of the other reviewers that the girl who serves the drinks does not give you a warm welcome and is miserable. Axbridge is a nice little place and overall The Lamb is worth a visit.

I first stopped here as a teenager and i am pleased to see that the levels of value and hospitality have not changed, even if the ownership has.We often refer to pub owners as 'hosts' without thinking about what that means. At the Lamb, it becomes obvious. Even when rushed, Dave in the bar and Sue in the kitchen make running a pub seem simple. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for them. They back this up with an excellent team. Eating here is always a pleasure. To live in Bristol and to travel to Weare, halfway to Devon, means that we pass a number of pubs and restaurants every Sunday. And it has become every Sunday, the search for a consistent standard of food is over, Sunday is lunch at the Lamb day. This is not fine dining thank god, it is great value and simple food cooked well by people who care.

Nice looking pub, unfortunately the chicken burger I ordered was awfull!Bread was terrible, side salad was totally dry and tiny!Chicken looked like a deflated schnitzel just come out the tumble dryer!Burger sauce was a combination of half a gallon of coleslaw and sweet chilli sauce! The only good part was the chips . Just! And that can all be yours for just £ 7.95!Cheers!

Great relaxed atmosphere in which to have a great pint and absolutely super mealWhen we arrived at 6pm with elderly parents - there was a birthday party in the function room and the landlord was all alone. Have to say he did an heroic job getting our drinks and food orders plus sorting out the party and other drinkers! The short wait was to be expected as the food was fresh ad piping hot.Perfect Plaice and chipsLuscious lasagne-homemadeLovely lamb.......................loaded plates with fan fresh veg.All in all - couldn't fault it. You could almost drive past this pub situated on the side of the A38 at Weare but we had been recommended to it and were not let down. We had been on a long dog walk across Crook Peak on the Mendips and in desperate need of a good lunch. We arrived at about 2.00 pm and there were a few people eating and their food on the plate looked delicious. Two of my friends had the cottage pie and chip and I had the Chicken curry and my other friend a seafood salad. The food arrived and seemed to be quite generous portions and the hot food was hot and looked and tasted delicious. This is an old pub and has quite a lot of charm and character. It will certainly be on our list to stop again when walking the Mendips really decent pub food and not pretentious and at a reasonable cost at £8/9 per person.

After a long day driving down from the Midlands, our hosts at our B & B recommended the Lamb and kindly booked a table for us. We just wanted some home cooked pub food and a place to relax, and it was a good choice. I liked the beef and Butcombe pie (superbly cooked and no fat anywhere near it) and we all enjoyed our meal. The cask ale is well looked after and from local breweries. Recommended.

Always a friendly welcome and good, honest pub grub. Not a trendy gastro-pub with a pretentious menu. The Butcombe is always good (whether in a glass or in the excellent Beef & Butcombe pie)

Having researched numerous pubs it was a delight to find one that was going to be open about 5ish to allow us to eat on the way to the airport. Enjoyed a late Sunday lunch plenty of beef veg obviously reheated but was totally acceptable at that time of day. Very pleasant host and will pop in again when passing.

Turned up unannounced for a late Easter Sunday lunch. Our dogs were welcomed as were we in the pub. Our Sunday lunch was delicious, plentiful and very good value. The dessert menu didn't disappoint either. Due to the warm welcome and hospitable ambiance our dogs settled throughout our meal, even when other dogs arrived, which enabled us to enjoy ourselves. Many thanks to the staff at The Lamb, we'll visiting again.

Considering they have a shop full of cakes, snacks and doughnuts they have nothing available in their cafe. A full commercial kitchen doing nothing There’s a reason why we were 1 if 3 tables sat in there as there’s no hot food and such a poor selection of snacks and cakes available it’s pointless having the cafe open!!

Dreadful food beef that you couldn’t cut let alone chew. Expensive Sunday roast very small and horrid. Coffee tasted of hot water. Because I couldn’t eat my beef they kindly refunded me £1.80. I would advise you to avoid however the bar is great so are the staff.

We had an amazing Sunday lunch! The beef was tender and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. There was an alternative selection to roast dinner on the menu also. My Husband chose the fish and chips which he said was amazing.
