The Knowle in Bristol, City of

Good pub food (e.g. burgers, curry etc) from a fairly compact menu. Good range of beers including 2 zero alcohol versions, one of which is on tap. Friendly staff and very quick service and therefore recommended. My only criticism is the vast dilapidated state of some of the furniture. Some are in a poor state and look as if they might have been used in a brawl several decades ago! I suggest trawling some of the local charity shops where you can get whole dining sets for bargain prices!

The food used to be delicious (welsh rarebit and haloumi were truly divine) but the menu is now so basic it's really disappointing and quality defo gone down hill. Staff is lovely but management needs to sort food out!

The guy on the bar was very helpful with us choosing our drinks. We wanted to try something new and knew exactly how to make what we were looking for. He even came over to check if the drink was good or needed to be sweeter.

This pub for a sunday dinner is one of our favourites and have highly recommended it to friends in the past but there is a but today we were very looking forward to our Sunday lunch with family that we don't see as much as we should so we were all excited. Until we arrived at the knowle . Firstly we were all seated we had to ask the bar if we could order some drinks as the pub was empty at this point and numerous staff was just stood around chatting wich we found annoying . Once we've ordered our roasts it was clear it's not up to the Knowles usual standard . I had the pork belly with crackling but instead I got a soggy chewy something. My cauliflower cheese could fit on the back of a 50 pence piece and about 5 green beans and some red cabbage that could be described as minute . And as for gravy there wasn't any worthy of a mention . I will need to take convincing to return . This is hard to write as I've always recommended food there to everyone one something is clearly not right

A hidden Bristol gem of a pub. A proper pub. Beers span Brit bitter classics to Spanish crispy gold. Food is always spot on. Love the small plates, pork belly and crispy squid etc - the Sunday roasts are legendary but popular, book ahead. Family friendly, everyone friendly. The staff mirror this, lovely, kind and it's run like a Swiss watch. Being at such an elevation, the views from the beer garden are pretty spectacular as well. Too many superlatives - just long may this pub remain. Rare.

Lovely Pub, Great Food and wonderful Service

In short: cold food, no apologies, terrible service tonight. We asked for our cold meals to be reheated, the young guy serving took our plates away to be reheated though didn't apologise. The food came back only very slightly warmed up. No-one came to clear our plates away afterwards or offer dessert. After waiting a while, we went to the bar to pay, seeing the young guy tucking into his own plate of food which explained the lack of service. The young woman who took our money couldn't have cared less when we explained what a poor experience we'd had. Such a shame - we just moved to Knowle so were hoping to adopt this as our local and bring friends and family. That definitely won't be the case. Would absolutely not recommend based on tonight's experience.

The roast dinner was as cold as the pub, The meat was chewy the roasters was hard and veg was sparse, usually we would stay and have a few drinks and dessert when dining out but this was very poor. Never again will we go back there.

A Family and pet friendly local pub with friendly staffs! Great variety of drinking options. However, extremely disappointed with the foods! We had Knowls beef burgers. Despite there were 2x meat patties, they were properly store bought (warehouse bought as you can get better pre made burger patty in Tesco), very dry and flavourless. The burger itself was also tasteless… Chips portion was soo small and again, a store bought! We were very disappointed as pub burgers are very classic and cannot go wrong. We were thinking of going back for sunday roast but now im thinking to look for another options… very shame.. hope the foods will improve as the pub itself is a very lovely.

It was a busy Friday evening when we booked and it was difficult to understand the other people on our table due to the noise.

We were looked after by Jess this evening and the service was outstanding. The pizza was amazing too!!! The pizzas are the best thing on the menu.

Usually a roast fails on one or more components, whether it’s an ingredient or portion size but The Knowle came through. It’s maybe one of the best roasts I’ve had, alongside this the extras also delivered great flavour and portion sizes. I’d recommend this pub for both food and drink.

I have food intolerances, this was explained to the waitress. We have dined several times before and I have built up a trust with the pub. On 19th May, my partner and I dined again and I wanted something different from the menu, again I explained that I am dairy and gluten intolerant. The waitress advised that I could have said dish. I become very unwell over night and for the next couple of days due to a gluten attack. My partner called twice to complain and to ask how this happened and no manager bothered to call him back. Appalling level of service and complete lack of care when preparing someone’s food with intolerances. Would never trust them again!

Ninguno de nosotros son comedores quisquillosos y deseando un buen almuerzo. Tres de nosotros elegimos '30 - Day - Aged Topside of Beef' (Braised beef shin) . Uno es un 'Junior Roast' y dos eligieron 'Roased Pork Belly'. Uno con crepitación extra. Las bebidas llegaron rápidamente y todos estábamos deseando una comida abundante. Desafortunadamente las comidas a la llegada fueron muy decepcionantes. La presentación fue un desastre. Mi Roast Beef estaba coronada con un pudín de yorkshire plano y suave de la mitad del diámetro del plato y todo nadando en una salsa de sabor de vinagre. Las verduras eran queso de coliflor, patatas asadas, pudín de yorkshire, zanahorias glaseadas de arce, frijoles finos, col roja estofada y verduras salteadas de primavera. Una cuchara de mesa de cada uno creando un, lo que solo se puede llamar un desastre. El ingrediente más decepcionante fue la carne de res. Era rosa, lo que no fue un problema, pero una vez que finalmente pude cortar en una rodaja con el cuchillo romo y comenzar a masticar. Me di cuenta de que esta pieza no debería tragarse. Así que no lo hice y puse la carne ofensiva a un lado de mi plato. Mirando a mi izquierda noté que mi cuñado estaba teniendo el mismo problema. Así que me dirigí a la multitud de vegetales que estaban bien aparte de la salsa de vinagre. Volvamos a la carne de res para probar otra rodaja diferente, el mismo resultado que antes. El Asado de Cerdo fue mejor recibido aunque la presentación volvió a ser pobre. La carne quedó en una pila en dos platos y lamentablemente mi nieto de 4 años no se acercó a su comida. La camarera llegó para recoger nuestros platos y pudo ver las sobras, pero no hizo ningún comentario, así que dije que no podíamos comer la carne, demasiado duro. ¡Sin respuesta! Al llegar al punto de espera esperábamos una reducción en la factura de £ 107. 19 pero no se dijo nada, y no hice más alboroto. Quienquiera que estuviera cortando la carne y «aplanando» habría sido plenamente consciente de la calidad de la carne que no debería haber salido de la cocina. El frente del personal de la casa era muy agradable, pero me permito sugerir el "Chef" que supongo fuentes de los ingredientes es más selectivo al aceptar las entregas de su carnicero. No volveremos a este restaurante.

Booked and visited with a friend today for Sunday lunch. We both ordered the beef, both thought it was tough, the cauliflower cheese was mushy and the potatoes tasted 'old'. Not the greatest! Had far better. Disappointed. We were not asked mid-meal and we did mention our dissatisfaction to the waitress when she came to clear our plates and asked that the tough beef that was not eaten be wrapped to take home for a pet dog. She just remarked a feeble "sorry"! Well, sorry, but you've lost repeat custom.

Such a good, generous Sunday lunch! The veg was the showstopper for me, Cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, roasted carrot etc. Was absolutely stuffed! Love that you can order extra Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets and crackling! 1/2 dinner available for the kids, but still really generous!

As always the food and service here are excellent. In the past they’ve even accommodated me with my elderly mother and Aunt when I messed up the booking and turned up on the wrong day! Today I went with the gluten free burger option…burger heaven! Mum thoroughly enjoyed her fish and chips. A place you come back to time and time again

My partner are I booked an evening meal here the same day, as kind of a last minute plan. We were not expecting to get a table, but luckily everything worked out. The staff were really lovely and friendly, my partner really enjoyed the food and how polite the reception was. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, the 2000 kerrang hoobastank music for atmosphere, and the general feel of the place. The table wasn't cleaned very well beforehand, but we aren't exactly the type to stand on ceremony! Just something to bare in mind. We would both happily come here again, perfect pub dinner, no complaints. Could happily come here for a few drinks, lunch, dinner or just to see a live band if they do host to them (will need to check).

We had a really great meal. We had burgers and dishes from the small plates menu, and they were all delicious. I was able to pick gluten free options too. The service was excellent, the staff were really friendly and helpful and the pub had a really nice atmosphere. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Arrived at 7pm ordered a drink at the bar and was seated at table, opposite the kitchen with a view of the kitchen and food service counter, shortly after a member of staff took our orders 2x house burgers with fries. So far so good. Watched starters and main meals being plated up and placed under the warming lamps. At 7:50 watched one of the serving staff pickup two plates with burger and chips on and place them on my table, at least 15 minutes after the meals were dished up. Fries were at best warm, didn't bother to try the burger. Complained to the staff that the meal was cold. Was told no more burgers left! Paid for drinks and walked out.

The new small plates menu is fantastic. We tried all of the fish dishes and pork which were amazing. Had a lovely evening and good atmosphere. Staff were attentive and welcoming. The drinks were quite expensive so we didn't stay late.

Friend took us to the Knowle for dinner and we all thought the menu was well thought out and with the addition of the specials board there was enough variety or everyone. Service was friendly, good humoured and efficient. I chose the Chicken Schnitzel for a change because it had loads of exciting veg with it (Jerusalem artichokes, celeriac plus walnuts and apples), the chicken was moist and the veg was exciting and delicious. We will definitely be going back

Honestly the best food that we have had in a very long time. We had steak and chicken and chips and everything was perfect. It was a little noisy but was a Friday night...Though the noise easened up after a few glasses of wine 😂 Would definitely recommend and we will be returning.

My local pub, lovely atmosphere and good community vibe. The food has always been really good and decent value. The Sunday roast is excellent and worth a visit for!

Want to love this pub, local and so promising, but really seems to lack atmosphere and the cider selection is truly awful for a Bristol/SW pub. Disappointing. Beers not that inspiring. Not the cheapest. Food is ok, Sunday roasts are pretty lovely though!

Great service from moment we arrived took our drink order. Sunday lunch was amazing . 7 of us went for Sunday dinner 6 meat eaters and a veggie. All food was very tasty and piping hot. Good portion sizes. Didn’t feel rushed . Will definitely be back

I Visited the Knowle with my partner on Friday and seriously had the best steak I have ever had! I eat in restaurants quite frequently and could not believe the quality and presentation of this steak. The pub had a buzzing atmosphere and the staff were very polite and helpful I asked for house wine then changed my mind and had the Malbec and that was no problem at all. The staff are very accommodating and make you feel at ease. We did not book, although were lucky enough to get a table. I always love the food at the Knowle, the loaded fries and Aubergine dish are very good too. The beer is always kept to a high standard and nice and cold, they have a great cocktail menu and the Malbec was great. Thanks so much to Mike and his great team for always being welcoming and 10/10 for the food.

Went there with 8 people and a newborn. Didn’t tell us over the phone that they expected us to eat roasts and desserts and have drinks in just an hour and a half! Seriously? That’s insane. And really GREEDY. The staff were clueless and frankly, rude. My partner asked for a coke, the waitress said she didn’t have any, only spray Pepsi. My partner was then informed that they had no bottled water only tap water, that is so weird! My partner then went up to the bar and saw coke in a bottle which she ordered. We asked again why she said there was none and she just shrugged her shoulders. They kept badgering us about the table every 10 mins like a countdown! BUT they were so slow in taking orders and I had to ask 3 separate girls for dessert menus. So they’re incredibly slow but also want us out in under 90 mins. Management- please train them better.! I told them nicely at the end that it was too short a time and felt rushed and greedy. They honestly don’t care.

Another well spent Sunday in another lovely pub on an autumn afternoon. Amazing pub, service is very friendly. The pub was packed so is obviously a popular place. The roast itself was very nice, had the pork belly which was nice and tender, crackling was delicious as well. Special mention to the Yorkshire pudding, gravy, carrots and cauliflower cheese. Roast potatoes were ok, nothing special.

The Knowle was an awesome experience, went to meet some friends. First thing we were greeted by friendly staff at the bar who showed us to our table, I'd asked if we could have a table close to the toilet which they were happy to do, although there was a little step into the pub a stick user and wheelchair person could get in but warn them in advance as it can get crowded. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was excellent. The prices were on par with what I expected for dine in table service. It was a great time had.. Thank you The Knowle! 👍

Drinks are not cheap but the food is good and staff friendly. If you want a table might be wise to book. Wow 😁👴 returned last night, it was fantastic, the staff were so attentive, the manager/ maitre really wants you to enjoy the experience. We had a table at the rear overlooking the east of Bristol. The manager walked pass and noticed that the music was to loud for polite conversation, hey presto the volume went down👍. Food my wife had Haddock and chips she said it was perfect did not share any will me, it was that good. I had the fillet of steak,cooked medium rare it was perfect, could have been bigger but when it's this good I could eat 500grams. Dessert Rhubarb crumble for one, wife does not eat dessert, dessert arrived it was big enough for two with two spoons. Finished with two latte's they were large and very good. I would like to keep this place a secret, so we could always get a table but this place deserves high recommendation.

This is my favourite pub, menu is seasonal and currently for summer they have pizzas being made in the garden kitchen. Drinks are reasonable, plenty of choice & accept blue light card! Every evening is full, which shows how popular it is.

The driest, most overcooked burger I have ever eaten. The bun tasted like cardboard and didn't even come with relish or mayo inside. No table service outside either.

Great food and service. We visited on a Monday lunch time so the atmosphere was never going to be great as there weren't many people around. It was kinda nice though to be honest. Would definitely recommend. Both kids and adult meals went down well 💜

Amazing Sunday roasts and really friendly service.

Lovely dog friendly pub. We came for a Sunday roast and it was tasty. The roast potatoes weren't the best - they were missing the crispiness and fluffy inside, but still enjoyable. Lovely giant Yorkshires! I had the nut roast and a sticky toffee pudding, which was delicious. Books and toys available for children, which was a nice touch. Only missing a star as we waited a lot between serving. It wasn't busy, but it took about 15 minutes for someone to come back and take our dessert order and noone came back to take payment of the bill for 20 minutes, so we ended up going up to the bar. Would recommend for all dog owners who want a yummy roast in a relaxed, comfortable setting.

It was excellent. The rhubarb, apple and sour cherry crumble was also great. Would definitely recommend this eatery.

First time here and had high expectations as it's a sister pub/restaurant to the Kensington Arms. We both had pork belly. We expected a slow cooked and tender meat but the pork belly was quite hard to cut through and very chewy. The rest of the lunch was nice. Maybe would have had a better experience with the beef or chicken? Service was 'laid back' and no one asked how our lunch was. Overall, a bit disappointing.

We booked for five for Sunday lunch. The service was excellent and the food was of a really high standard. My parents both appreciated being able to have a half portion as they find usual roasts too much food to finish. We had cheesecake for pudding which was delicious. Husband and dad appreciated the beer selection. We will definitely be back.
