Absolutely fantastic location on the beautiful seafront. Clean hotel with basic breakfast served, unfortunately very little choice on what time to have breakfast. Only option was after 9 every morning and often not much fruit salad left on the buffet by then. They're unable to accommodate guests who prefer to decide, on waking, when to have breakfast. We opted not to have the evening meal. Disappointed that the bar closes at 10:30 pm, latest. On occasions would really have liked a drink bit later than this which does not seem unreasonable to me. Hotel obviously very understaffed but staff were pleasant and hard working. Revolting view from our small stuffy bedroom window (see photo) Window had covering placed over it to disguise the disgusting outlook. Window only opened a few cms and the room was extremely stuffy, insufficient air circulating around the room but the hotel communal areas were comfortable. I have asthma and my room worsened it considerably and made it very hard for me to sleep so not a restful break at all hence poor review.

Spent the weekend with family, parking was fine on arrival after pre booking. Reception staff friendly, room was a single and cozy but clean and newly refurbished. Breakfast and dinner I cannot fault. Lovely greasy bright and clean hotel in great location. Only thing I would mention is some of the rooms may have thin walls as it was mentioned by other members of our group. We’ll be back..!

Absolutely lovely hotel - so glad to have found it. Went out of their way to accommodate motorbike parking which was gratefully received. The single room was spotless, comfy and had a nice covered balcony. The staff are genuinely nice people and very welcoming. The food was beyond superb. Would have liked to stay longer.

Stayed here for just the one night as it was fully booked. Reception staff were really helpful and had our luggage delivered to our room. Room was adequate for our needs and had a rear aspect. As we had a dog with us we took breakfast in our room. Full English with all the trimmings, really nice. We had considered having it on the front terrace but we had been warned about the seagulls swooping down. Hotel is in a perfect location on the front just a short distance from shops and bars. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Family break for 5 over 3 nights, rebooked after cancellation due to Covid. I initially requested a fridge in 2 of the rooms. I phoned twice to confirm this but on arrival, no fridges. Eventually 2 tiny appliances arrived, only big enough for a carton of milk. Location is great with sea views, hotel is clean, beds are comfortable. I double room average size, 2nd double room and 3rd single room were both very small, too small, and squashed. Very small shower rooms. Breakfasts good, dinners average to poor. Menus sound good but the food that arrived was very disappointing. The photos on the hotel's website are completely misleading and do not represent what is presented. For the advertisement to say that the management is 'passionate' about the food is extraordinary. A vegetarian 'Wellington' was in fact a pasty!! The steak Diane bore absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to the real thing. No mushrooms, no shallots, no discernible brandy, just a sauce that tasted more of an oxo cube - dreadful. The 'pavlova' consisted of a dried out meringue nest that can be bought in a packet of 6 in the supermarket, with some fruit and cream plonked on top. We definitely had dried out bread in the evenings. Desserts were uninspiring. Poor service which comprised the food arriving on a tray which was then plonked on the end of the table, after which the dishes were handed to the nearest person who had to pass them 'down the line' to the others sitting at the table. No effort was made to walk around the table to clear individual plates, we were expected to just hand them over. Exactly like school lunches used to be, certainly not restaurant standard. Staff were pleasant but they clearly haven't been trained properly. Overall this is a hotel for an older generation who enjoy a comfortable, hassle free seaside holiday and who are probably more interested in quantity of food rather than quality. It is a sad reflection that at no time did we see a Manager or anyone who appeared to have general responsibility or concern for the guests and their experiences. There wasn't any member of staff who stood out as exceptional, or who was particularly friendly, they all just did their jobs to the most basic level. We will not be returning.

Excellent hotel, very clean and covid friendly. The food was excellent and the staff so friendly, nothing was to much trouble, felt that we had known them for years. We were a coach party and the day of departure the staff came outside the hotel and waved us a safe journey, never experienced that before. Would definately recommend this hotel.

This is the 2nd year we have stayed at this hotel over the Christmas period and both experiences have been brilliant. The staff are amazing, very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The food was first class, no complaints about anything. Christmas lunch was fantastic. Our room, whilst cosy, was clean and well presented with lovely sea views. The bathroom was on the small side but it really wasn't a problem to us. The 'extras' put on for the festive season are lovely and well received. We loved it so much we have booked again for this year! Cannot recommend highly enough.

Had dinner in this hotel as it was next door to and part of the group of hotels we were staying at. On the plus side the it looks better than ours at the Elizabeth Hotel and couldn't fault the staff who were really pleasant and professional and the service was prompt and efficient. However it was an average type of hotel food. We had the soup and chicken rillettes which were ok. The lamb main was a bit tough and just uninspiring with the pork being well cooked but a bit on the fatty side. It wasn't the cheapest meal but more than reasonable enough for a hotel restaurant. It had the feel of being just a bit boring and needed something more inspirational but I guess they know there clientele.

Lunchtime in Sidmouth. Out of season, but still busy on an unexpectedly, sunny day. Searching for somewhere reasonable to eat my wife and I walked (eastwards) along the promenade at Sidmouth, checking out what was on offer. (Too greasy, too expensive, too busy...) until we came to the Kingswood. The entrance looked clean and inviting, and there were a number of outside tables, but most of these were already occupied. Despite the sunshine there was a cool breeze so preferred to eat indoors if we could. A truly charming waitress with a "no problem" attitude ushered us into the hotel, and immediately we felt ourselves in an ocean of calm. We had the dining room (on the right-hand side) to ourselves throughout our visit, and chose a table by the window to enjoy the sunshine. I noticed the high-backed chairs, which, we both felt, were extremely comfortable. We also realised that the double-glazing cut out the sound of the traffic and people outside completely, which added to the peace of the room.Service was EXCELLENT. The young waitress was professional, smiling, and charming throughout. It was actually quite hard to choose from the lunchtime menu: I could have happily eaten anything from it! In the end we both chose a crab sandwich with a small salad, and a side of skinny chips. (Interesting to see you could choose between skinny or big chips). This, plus a soft drink, a glass of strawberry-flavoured cider, and an espresso came to just over £20, which, given the quality of the surroundings, the food and the service was fine as far as we were concerned. We'd have no hesitation in eating at the hotel again on our next visit.

We stopped at the Kingswood as it has an enviable position overlooking the sea front. ~There were 3 of us - my mother and I ordered salads and my husband had fish and chips which came highly recommended by the waiter. The fish and chips was a huge portion and was well cooked and presented. I really enjoyed my salad, my mother felt her ham was not the best she's had. These were served with a generous basket of bread. The fish and chips were good value but we felt the salad was slightly overpriced however to be fair the table was beautifully laid with quality linen and glassware with a wonderful view out to sea.We also had 2 really good glasses of Pimms with plenty of fruit and my husband had a local very good quality cider. The older waiter was confident with his service and welcoming and the younger waiters were very keen to serve.

We had wandered around the various eating places in Sidmouth and just wanted a two course dinner, we had a drink sitting outside at one of the tables at the Kingswood & Devoran Hotel on the sea front, so decided to have a meal with them. We were seated about 7 p.m. overlooking the sea in an individual conservatory area so had a lovely aspect. We had a glass of Pinotage each, with the smoked haddock pots for starters, followed by the roast beef , yorkshire puddings, roast potatoesand vegetables, both of which were fine. The two courses were not expensive and the waitress was very sweet and helpful.

I’m sorry I have never put a negative review yet but feel I have to say something about the meal we had in this hotel. The first indication we had that all was not going to be what we expected when we entered the restaurant and could smell stewed cabbage. I deliberately avoided the roast dinner as I suspected that was the culprit of the cabbage smell. Three of us had the pheasant which was so tough we had to send it back. The staff seemed to be clueless one trying to serve dessert to two of us while three of us still had not had a main course.Generally it was a unpleasant evening and a expensive one to boot, the restaurant charged us for the replacement meals!

My wife and I have various food allergies, so it was so good to be told that they can adapt the meals to meet our needs. And they did, GF, veg instead of potatoes, you name it, it was done. The food itself was excellent, all four of us had brilliant meals. Well worth a visit

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.
