The King's Plaice in Sefton

Called in this evening 6th May 2025 had the Regular Cod Meal Special. You got Cod, Chips,Mushy Peas, B&B, Pot Of Tea all for £11. The fish was really nice, as were the chips all cooked fresh while I waited. I sat in to eat. Lady who served me Daneille was very polite, lovely personality and an asset to the business, she's amazing. I will be going regularly as its local for me. 5-Stars all the way.

Dog friendly was which caught our eye but we had beautiful fish and chips very much worth a visit even without a dog Thankyou to the girls who served us friendly and efficient.freshly cooked and just right lovely.10 out of 10

OMG! This is the best chippy ever. It is so hard to find a really good chippy. Even though I live in Wigan anytime me and my partner fancy a chippy tea this is where we come because the drive is soooo worth it. I have tried lots off the menu and believe me when I say it has all been perfect. Everything is freshly cooked and delicious. The curry sauce is amazing and has to be tried. The staff are really friendly and the place is very clean and welcoming. I would challenge anyone to try this chippy and not have only good things to say about it. Highly, highly recommend. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

We visited as a family on a sunny day in the Easter holidays and it was wonderful. They do a lovely gluten free fish and chips, and you can have beans and curry sauce GF too. The kids meal was great value (£6 for a huge portion) and to top it all off the staff are very lovely and accommodating. We can’t wait to come back!

Right on Lord Street a chippy that looks like a cafe but serves like a chippy! Had a latte cid and it was very large and small chips for a Tenner. They do a meal for 11 quid; fish n chips , bread, peas and pot of tea. Fish was excellent really well cooked and the chips were good chips but they weren’t piping hot and were cold when I got the last ones but overall recommend and will go back.

Mushy peas are very good. A large portion of chips is really large. Fish good, batter good. Service fast and nice.

Really good fish and chips, don’t let the weird coloured peas put you off. The curry sauce was delicious. Chips were good, and the portions are a good size.

Dry Chips, look like they has been cooked yesterday !! Fish ok but not worth the high price. Prices are really high right now and the quality of take out food should be much higher for the cost ! Southport is a Seaside town and there is absolutely No excuse for bad Fish'n'Chips ! Not Recommended No idea why this place is scoring so high, must be lots of Fake reviews or people without taste buds !

Probably the best chippy chips I’ve ever had. Lovely, crispy traditional chips. Only stopped for a winter warmer but we will be back for a full meal next time. Friendly staff and clean.

Left quite a lot to be desired. Piece of fish was TINY & the Fishcake like a tiny bit of cardboard! Not much fish in it thats for sure. Chips just "sweaty" & looked like they needed frying a bit longer - tasted it too. Disappointing.

Food excellent. Crispy white fish chips and peas cup of tea. We thought it was on par with our favourite chippy at home. Service very good. Front of house very very clean with friendly staff. 2 Steps to next level could do with a ramp instead. For wheelchair access. The toilets were only adequate. More disabled rails needed and a bit more time on cleaning the toilet and white goods. Can be achieved with time and a little money spent on appliances. Very open and roomy in dining area. Overall we will come again. Thanks enjoyed our visit.

Hi, I do hope your business continues to serve tasty fish and chips etc, and that your customers enjoy it all. It is some time since my elderly mother and I visited, not been near Southport this year as Sefton council disbanded the park and ride, they have made it so awkward to visit and to get about easily, the powers that be seem to be discouraging visitors who have enjoyed the town for many years, an Ageist approach, that they refuse to talk about, sorry but best wishes, St Helens, never been back no one ever says anything about how things are suppose I won't visit council management dont make visits easy- shame oct'24

Desperate for somewhere to eat when showing visiting friend Southport Lord Street by passed numerous places with loud blaring music (the art of conversation is dead) Gave up and walked in here Dog friendly a plus. What a surprise absolutely delicious fish and chips crispy light batter proper chips and dog could sit under table inside. Spotlessly clean,cool no music and really friendly people running and serving. What a bonus I'll be back again

Food was good but service was rude and asked to leave as soon as we got our food and then whilst eating outside the employees were arguing and fighting

Dont bother. I steeled myself to pay nearly £10 for fish and chips for a birthday treat - probably not a lot these days but a lot for me but I never got it. I waited in line for ten minutes while the woman totted up someone's bill, then two other people were served before me. Disgusted, I left. If you can't serve people promptly and in the right order, you shouldn't even bother opening. I eventually got a sausage roll from Greggs. Great birthday. Thanks.

Now getting far too pricey £26 for 2 x fish, 1 large chips and a barm.....

We enjoy eating here because it is spotlessly clean, the staff are very welcoming and friendly, the prices are modest and, best of all, the food is delicious. Each time, our fish and chips have been served piping hot, the batter is not greasy and the chips are crisp. Thanks to you all!

Since when are mushy peas illuminous green!? Missing chips but tried partners and they were awful as well as the gravy; absolutely vile. Partners pie was also stale.

Excellent service, outstanding food, reasonably priced, but the best bit for my husband and I?..... They have a separate fryer for their gluten free chips, and yesterday we discovered that they also do gluten free fish. I chose a medium cod and the gluten free batter was the perfect balance of crispy and melt in the mouth. Plus, everything was cooked to perfection. They don't have gluten free vinegar, but we always bring our own. The gentleman who served us was truly lovely and made us feel very welcome. We don't travel to Southport very often, but we always buy our lunch from The King's Plaice. Highly recommended, 10 out of 10

Well, we didn't attend Kings Plaice. Instead they came to us. We had the AGM of Southport Friendship Group, and they supplied over forty pensioners meals, piping hot to our group, at a very reasonable price. This is the second year they've done this. Everybody enjoyed the food, and many asked would we be doing it again next year. Thanks to all concerned.

Chicken burger, plain bun and piece of chicken, no salad or sauce or anything

(I have been to Kings Plaice in 2021, the staff were nice & quality of food was very good, apparently the business has since changed hands) As we walked in there was a scruffy young man on the till who took our order. We opted for all day specials meals, I didn’t feel it looked as nice as what it has done previously, fish batter & chips over cooked. Whilst waiting we witnessed the owner shouting & embarrassing a staff member who was on his break to hurry up and eat his food. He then grabbed a female staff member by the arm & pushed her into the back room & slammed the door. He was shouting & screaming at her. The language was appalling. The female was crying & screaming hysterically & sounded extremely distressed. It was very disturbing & worrying. We went to the front desk & explained that we were concerned about the distressed young woman screaming in the back room & asked if she was ok. The young lad said ‘it’s my girlfriend, my dad is just having a word with her’ we said that it sounds like more than a word & why is she so distressed? He then said it doesn’t concern you & started swearing at us & told us to get out if we don’t like it to get out. I demanded a refund, he returned the money & we left & will never go there again or recommend this

Absolutely horrendous! Everything was cold! Fish was overcooked, cold, and greasy. Chips were dry, and cold. Everything went straight in the bin!

Gluten free fish and chips was top notch. Portion size was the same as 'normal' fish and chips, very tasty will definately be ordering again.

We really appreciated that this chippy was still open early evening, when it felt like the rest of S'port was shutting shop for the day, which is strange in the summer months. Hey-ho. Food was nice, staff were excellent and the restaurant was clean. We would visit here again.

Horrible disgusting food. Will never order again! I asked for roast fish and you gave me some rock solid fish! If you can’t cook, don’t open a restaurant. I can tell this was re-heated days-old food. Disgusting.

We went to Kings Plaice in southport today for lunch. Very friendly staff made us very welcome. Great Gluten free fish & chips etc. We will return again. 5 star.

First time using this chippy and last time chips very dry

They can't cope when it's busy. I walked out.i asked for gluten free fish which they always have and to be fair the food is always lovely. They said there wasn't any GF fish because they were too busy. Then a fight broke out between the staff behind the counter with the girl screaming " I'm into f*** stab you" to one of the males. They seem very stressed. I decided not to part with my money. Unprofessional, unwelcoming. I felt very uncomfortable. . A while ago a lovely lady served me. It's a shame.

The restaurant was spotless. Service pleasant and quick. Fish batter was crispy and light. Not greasy at all. I had mushy peas. All in all the best fish I’ve had in years.

We had the OAP special and thought they had got it wrong as the portion was so large.

A lovely meal, delivered on time & my instructions followed to the letter.

Whilst walking down Lord Street, we decided on fish and chips at the King’s Plaice and it was delightful! The fish was perfectly flaky inside a crispy golden batter, and the chips were just the right amount of crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. With a slice of bread with butter and a brew was a nice touch, making it a classic, comforting meal that hit all the right spots. The staff were friendly, polite and welcoming, cleaning the tables ready for the next customers, to ensure cleanliness is maintained. This was the first time that we decided to eat inside and we will be eating there again

Had lunch here today. And it was the best fish I ever had. The service was excellent and the food was piping hot. The prices were very reasonable. I was that impressed I left a £10.00. Other fish and chip shops could learn a thing or two from this place. And dog friendly a big thank you

🤮 Absolute rubbish. We had the special fish, chips, mushy peas, bread & margarine & a very small cup of tea 🤮 It was vile. The fish was drenched in oil (not been drain properly) the peas looked and tasted disgusting the chips tasted OK but was like a child size portion. The margarine on the bread was only in the middle it didn't come out to the sides. The seating area looked clean but the toilet was a disgrace no lid on the bin toilet paper on the floor and mold/damp on the ceiling and wall and the door would not fully open it jammed on the floor. Would not go again.

Excellent food. The chips and gravy was fantastic. Both pies (well a pie & a pudding) were spot on. Curry spicy and tasty. Not keen on the peas, but nothing wrong, just personal preference. The food was piping hot and the portions size was great. A real find.

Chips were a little undercooked

The person who delivered it just left it on the floor in the porch and did not ring the doorbell or knock so we had no idea the food was here

My wife and I usually go here for our Birthday and Anniversary but this time today the tea was Luke warm the chips had obviously been out the fryer for a bit and the fish was not crispy but soggy and the pie white in the middle disappointed is beyond words no more unfortunately.

This plaice lol is the best chips in town the chips amazing and the fish are fantastic value for money ... I know which chippy I will be going in the future when I visit Southport again

If you’re visiting Southport and fancying fish and chips this plaice is definitely worth a visit. The food always tastes great, with generous portions and a good selection. Personally I love the fish, light batter and full of flavour. The staff are friendly and helpful, the restaurant has plenty of tables but if you’re eating on the go they even do take away.

EDIT; Owner or one of the staff has replied with "Fake review" ...... strange because I've supplied a picture of their table DON'T SPEND MONEY HERE Asked for hot drinks to be served with the meal........ they appeared 20 seconds later !!! Fish extremely thin (Once you removed the batter) and was served straight from the fryer, soaked in oil not drained at all. Eating the chips was on a par with eating Tic Tacs, very very crunchy and each mouthful was risking a trip to the dentist..... Curry sauce WAS fantastic though All of the above complaints were brought to their attention when settling the bill, no discount was offered but at least our cats got to eat the fish we brought home. On the way out we received a cheery "see you again" ........ NO YOU WON'T !!!!!

Very, very impressed with the service, food and prices at The King's Plaice. Fancied a quick fish and chips lunch with my brother while visiting Southport. The Kings Plaice was perfect. Fantastic, attentive staff. The offer of fish and chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a tea/coffee for £9.99 to eat in is pretty much unbeatable these days. The food was very nice, not the best fish and chips I've ever had, but for the price it was brilliant and I'd definitely visit again. Keep up the good work 😃🐟

The food is lovely, but when it takes 80 minutes to deliver fish and chips something is wrong.

Don’t go to this restaurant if you want to be treated with respect. My daughter and I went for lunch just on a random day out and when I ordered my food, the waitress said: “Don’t you want the senior citizens’ meal?” I am not a senior citizen!! When I walked away insulted, she didn’t even apologise, just carried on blithely. I didn’t feel like eating after that but we stayed as the manager asked me if I was ok. One takeaway from the incident: at least I’m not insensitive, stupid or bad at my job!
