Staying at a local caravan site and went for a walk. Had driven past the pub on the way to the site so was chuffed to come across it on our walk. Popped in for a drink and it started to rain so had lunch too. A lovely welcoming hello as we walked in and the service just carried on. Had some lovely very local real ale and very tasty food. Thank you

While staying in the area we were wandering around looking for somewhere to eat. Fortunately we came across the King's Head - alas it was a Monday and no food available that evening. However the publican and locals were so welcoming we had a drink and vowed to return the next evening. More locals and just as friendly a welcome was topped by excellent food on our return. Plese could you move to Derbyshire and become our local?

Interesting pub and nicely laid out , staff seemed pretty polite and served us well , decent sized portions and food was tasty However my children did not eat all of the food they had (typical thing to do nothing wrong with the food) Untill leaving the pub we where approached by a lady named Angela (well that’s what she told us) who verbally abused me and my family and asking what area we where from as she had never seen us before and telling me how our children should be more well behaved ? Not the nicest of people but due to this I will not be coming back unfortunately , not sure if she was a local or not but very intimidating

Yet again had a great lunch, sausage's in batter chips and fried eggs not on the main menu but part of their takeaway menu, you can ask for it as the staff are very accommodating , the sausages in batter are the best ever the batter is so crunchy and eggs are cooked to perfection, my wife had fish and chips but replaced the chips with new potatoes and she thoroughly enjoyed it as we both did.

Visited on a Sunday with some friends, and at first it seemed a little unwelcoming as we were clearly “outsiders” whereas the majority of customers in the pub seemed to be locals, well-known to the staff. However, things improved, the young guy at the bar was quite helpful and the lady serving the food was really nice. The food itself was good, and there was plenty of it.Would certainly consider visiting again in the future.

Happened to be in East Hoathly as part of the Chiddingly Festival, dropped in for a lunch time snack on a Sunday. Very welcoming, pleasant atmosphere, interesting interior with historic influences (photos of Hoathly, references back to King Charles). Extensive menu and still able to order at 2.30pm (on a Sunday). 3 of us had plain omelette (with chips and peas) and 1 had ham egg and chips. All well presented, omelette beautifully cooked, chips pleasing and peas 'fresh'. Recommended.

I have been behind on my reviews lately and I really didn’t want to miss my recommendation of this fabulous pub which really does deserve a big shout. This is a very old traditional pub in lovely old fashioned surroundings, anyone wanting a modern gastro pub with load music, Wembley stadium lighting and trendy staff with attitude – don’t bother, you won’t get any of that here. What you will see are regular locals sitting at the bar and what you will get are really lovely friendly bar staff that have nothing but the right attitude because the service here is first class. As for the food, honestly, it is just SUPERB and having had their home made meat pie before now with mash and gravy..... OMG, SO GOOD! Well, I can also report that their SUNDAY ROASTS are equally EXCEPTIONAL and TRULY EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY! I simply cannot recommend this pub more highly enough and just wished they were closer to home because if they were, we would be eating there every day!!

We visit the King's Head at least once a month. The lovely old building is reason enough to call. Another major plus is their own brewery on site. Essentially, though, we return because of how well we are treated, the great local feel/atmosphere, and the fact that both the food and drink options are plentiful, reasonably priced and delicious. Above all, the staff make folk feel so welcome. A cracking pub!

We tried the local brew "Bees Head", which has a beautiful sweet honey flavour. Really interesting conversation about the local brew, and small breweries in the area. I'm always pleased to support local businesses, and we took away 6 very reasonably priced brews. Such a pleasant lunch experience. I regret we don't live closer. Would definitely recommend a visit. Just returned from this local country pub. There was a friendly welcome on entering. Well behaved Dogs are allowed. There is a basic lunch menu - baguettes, jacket potatoes plus the normal fish and chips, burgers, scampi, steak etc plus a specials board. We chose off the specials board - lambs liver & bacon with mash and breast of duck with saute potatoes and seasonal veg. Both meals arrived hot and well presented. There were plenty of veg. Maybe slightly too many saute potatoes but they were lovely!! Thoroughly recommend this pub for drink, food, friendliness and ambiance

We stopped at the Kings Head for a drink and dinner after a long day out at nearby Drusillas Park. On arrival the pub was nearly empty so we had free choice of seating - handy when you have kids in tow! Good choice of dishes on the menu which is fortunate because our kids are super fussy. I’m not entirely sure if they had a children’s menu as ours being 12 & 10 picked form the main menu/specials board and it didn’t particularly strike me as a family pub - nothing seemed geared towards children although this didn’t detract from our experience. We arrived nearly an hour before food service started but knowing that we wanted to eat the barman kindly took our order in advance so we didn’t wait too long after service started. The food was excellent! My daughter had the butterfly chicken and insisted we all tried it to taste how good it was. If we weren’t visiting East Hoathly on holiday, I would certainly make this a regular place to dine.

We walked in through the front door and were immediately greeted by the very friendly barman. We had not booked a table, but it was no problem and we were invited to choose from several tables. We chose from the Specials Menu on the chalkboard on the wall. Whilst we waited, more people came in quite separatelyand we think from the way they all seemed to know each other, they are local folk. It is always good to see local people supporting their village pub, and it probably means that it is a good pub. We only wanted a main course, which arrived in reasonable time, as did my vegetables which were served separately from the steak and kidney pie I ordered. The pie was very good, with lovely crispy pastry and a huge amount of mashed potato, and the various vegetables were cooked just right: not mushy. There is a good atmosphere in this pub, and the staff are very friendly. We were too full for puddings, but other people's puddings looked really delicious. We felt the bill was very reasonable indeed, and we intend to return.

When we walked into the pub the noise was terrible with people talking very loudly. We were first seated near the bar which wasn't suitable due to people squeezing by.We were moved to another place at our request. This was nearly as bad as we were right near the route to the toilets! We ordered our food at the bar and we had to wait nearly one and a half hours for it to arrive. One consolation was,the food was well presented and all our meals were delicious although the main menu is quite limited.I was not at all happy at paying £4.00 for a non alcoholic lager. I'm part of a 20 strong walking group which meets at a different location every Saturday and eats lunch at a local pub. In view of our number, we were asked by the King's Head to arrive at 10am (before our walk) and order lunch from a fairly straightforward menu - nothing very elaborate. On our return at 12.30 we had to wait more than 45 minutes for our food. No explanation was given for the delay. When I approached the person behind the bar, she said that they had another group/party in and they had been served first. Pressed further, she said that the kitchen was small. Without making any move towards that area, she declared that our food would be out in 5 minutes and remained behind the bar. Her job was evidently done. Long delay? small kitchen? Not my problem. Another couple at a separate table had the same treatment,The food was OK when it came, but what a shame that we had been left for so long.I'm constantly reading about the closure of country pubs: those that survive often do so by virtue of good food and service to go with it. Most of our 20 or so members are happy to pass on recommendations to our friends where this is appropriate. I have to say that 'The King's Head' will not be getting many votes for this.

I had high hopes for this pub. My partner had been there years ago and said the food had been good, and that the beer was excellent.Time hasn't been kind. The pub was dark, and VERY cliquey. (Well it was not that busy, to begin with it was one drunk woman at the end of the bar, one drunk man at the other but it did get busier and we were not welcome)I had the nachos to start as I felt like a treat and my partner had garlic bread with cheese. Not particularly exciting but comforting. Well the nachos were crisps, with cheese on top. You may think this is what nachos is, but if you ever go to a Mexican restaurant they don't usually serve really cheesy Doritos with grated un melted cheese on top. My partners garlic bread was just.. bad. However it was cheap so I cant complain much. That is until the main course. My burger was dry, I would guess shop brought pre made and the chips were anything but fresh. My partners pork belly resembled the roast you used to get on a Thursday at school. Watery oxo gravy, tough pork, cold. We didn't do dessert. The beers can be good but not the night we went, and the lager choice is poor. The wine choice is limited. Red or white or pink. All in all, strange place, rubbish food, okayish beer. I think next time I would go to the Six Bells in Chiddingly.

I had the great pleasure of visiting "The Kings Head" for dinner last Friday and was most pleasantly surprised. The fire was lighting in the hearth , the landlord and staff were most friendly , the beer from the local brewery excellent, all in all, the ambience was very welcoming. The menu offered a good selection of traditional "Pub Grub " and I selected the beef and kidney pie , service was prompt and professional and the pie was tasty with a selection of fresh vegetables. My wife selected the Fish which passed her very critical standards .The Chief appeared to enquire if we were enjoying our meal , a very nice touch. Personally I would never take my dog into a pub animals and food do not mix.True there is limited parking in front of the pub but there is plenty on the adjacent road. The landlady behind the bar was friendly but not overly in your face. The landlord was a nice chatty chap and knows his beers. They infact make their own and pretty good it is too. The food was good standard pub grub I had Chicken and leek pie obviously home cooked and with good short crust pastry not blind baked puff rubbish that is served in many establishments. The vegetables were fresh and hot. My wife had the huntsmans chicken which was freshly cooked moist and very tasty. Another of our party tried the homemade curry and said it was superb. There were several tables of people in at the same time as us and all the plates went back cleared. We enjoyed it so give it a try don't be put off by dog owners or car park fanatics.Very sad when a pub is judged by the size of its car park. You could find the big car park in the pub down the road is its best feature.

I thought I'd have a look on line at a sample menu or find out about their sourcing etc. Ended up ringing them to ask about their website and was told by a young lady, that "No, she didn't think they had one". When I suggested she pass on to the management that perhaps they should think about it in this day and age, she said she would - but I'm not convinced she would or was even interested. Maybe they have too many customers and don't want to attract more. We''ll try the Forresters which has a good website.

We were told that dogs were ok in the Bar area, but no longer in the restaurant area as people had complained about the dog hair. Ok fine i accept that, but unfortunately on a freezing cold wet day, there was absolutely no heating in the bar area at all. All the other people greeted our dog in a positive way and she is a non moulting breed, so I think a little flexibility should be employed by landlords in a country pub that had very few customers anyway. The food was still good, but we didn't stay long as we were both freezing.PS Anyone saying that we could have left the dog in the car, will perhaps not understand that the whole point of us going to that pub was that we wanted to take our dog with us.

Now, cream teas are not on the regular menu at The Kings Head : they used to be ~ but lack of demand apparently saw them relegated to when they are pre-booked for groups of known numbers. When we came to be walking the Wealdway this year and were to arrive in East Hoathly at about 4pm one Sunday afternoon, we discovered a problem when we were doing our area researches beforehand! However, the team at the Kings Head really helped us out when we were trying to arrange a suitable cream tea as a walk finale. This was for a walk to East Hoathly from Arlington, yet this seemed to be a community that otherwise was unable to offer a cream tea on a Sunday afternoon (other days, yes : but not on a Sunday). In June we had our first cream tea from the Kings Head. It was so special, so good, that the walkers asked to complete another Wealden day-walk with the same finale (that was July 2013)!the verdict : Home-made and truly excellent scones, with cream, jam and so on : all excellent. friendly service and banter made for a great tea. Outcome : happy and contented walkers, appreciative that the venue put themselves out to make the visit special. Good ales available at these premises, including those from their own brewery.

Good pub meals in a friendly, lively local, blessed with its own micro-brewery producing a rich range of award-winning ales for each season.

The King's head has started to do theme pub food nights and it was Mexican food turn. The place was packed on a Saturday night which created a nice atmosphere. We had three courses and were not to be dissapointed. Large portions, all greatly presented and good value. This pub also had a microbrewery (1648) attached to it which compliments any food nicely with its varied range. All in all definitely something to look out for when visiting East Hoathly

The menu has changed recently and, along with old favourites, are some more modern dishes.Exactly what springs to mind when you picture a traditional English pub: real ale, open fire, welcoming staff- this pub has it all. There is the right balance between eating and drinking. My only criticism is that the menu is a bit carb heavy.

The Kings Head is, as it has been for centuries, the heart of East Hoathly. It lies at the crown of the bend which is central to comings and goings, just across from the Village Store and PO. No gastro-pub but a source of really good hot meals, which can be eaten by the lovely fire yet still very much part of the pub. And a true pub it is, dominated by the bar across which are servednot only all the usual drinks but the range of real ales brewed on thepremises by the award-winning 1648 Brewery. At last count there were some 17 options as to which ale you may find on tap, for these are brewed according to season. It is a true village pub, welcoming locals, walkers, and other visitors alike.

Brilliant new proprietors from March 2024 with very high standards. So ignore 2023 reviews and the food and other pics are out of date. The accommodation area is not open yet as major refurb in progress. I went up for a music night in July and I am going up this week to sample the pub menu, and will certainly be booking ahead as soon as the hotel part does open, as I don’t drive, so a relaxing visit to Wadhurst for me, require a stop over. I am confident this team’s famous high standards will transform this historic building into a classy stay. The kitchen is entirely new, state of the art, and sparkling and immaculate, ( I was given a tour ) and I am looking forward to traveling to Wadhurst now they are serving food, as I know this chefs food is top notch. And with the welcoming bar team, I will feel comfortable and looked after. As a fussy woman who is used to dining alone, or taking others to dine in top establishments around the foodie cities of Brighton, Malaga and Paris, I have a high standard for hospitality and food. The new proprietors at the Greyhound are warm and welcoming and have high standards of hygiene and hospitality, I know this from their other ventures, I can’t wait to eventually stay over and enjoy the village of Wadhurst when the hotel part opens. Until then I am taking the bus up from Brighton this week to sample the new pub menu, as I know the chef is first class, and with such a good hospitality team I can confidently invite a party of people knowing they will be happy and looked after. On the new menu I will report my findings in detail!

I have cycled past here so very very often and never tried the cafe. I should have read the reviews on here first! I stopped for a latte and a cake and the guy working here I am sure does not drink coffee. He was so out of his depth with the coffee machine I ended up with just hot milk!! In the old adage “You only get one chance to make a good first impression” Sorry but this time you failed. Yelling at me when I left that I could not go down and look at the lake as I might upset the fishermen having earlier told me there were no fishermen was not worth debating either. In short if you fish here use the cafe, if you are passing…… Keep on passing.
