Went in to do some work on my laptop and went to the side glassed area where the interactive darts and big screen for sports … sat there working and all I could hear is a young female wearing a chequered shirt and black t shirt underneath! She had reddish/ dark black hair and she was swearing using extreme offensive language at the chef over the pass, she was very loud …. Not what I’d expect to hear from a young woman ( certainly not a lady ) I was going to invite friends for lunch but couldn’t bare hearing her type of language anymore … such a shame as the concept and venue is perfect ! Retraining is needed for this individual, on a positive note the young lady all in black her served me first was professional and extremely attentive … (as an experienced cluster GM myself I hope this feed back will help this site going forward.) Such a shame as I’ve been into a couple of #urbanvillages and loved the vibe … ps Watling Street Urban is awesome 🙌

Rather unusual pub located in the centre of Abingdon. It's obviously an old building, long and narrow, but with bits added on and somehow it doesn't seem to know whether it is a modern or a traditional pub, resulting in a slightly confused atmosphere. There is a courtyard and garden hidden away at the back for al fresco drinking and dining. On the bar, there were two ales available at the time of our visit: London Pride and Loose Canon Abingdon Bridge - as a big supporter of smaller breweries and a firm believer that pubs should always offer a local ale, I obviously opted for the latter as my drink of choice, and this went down very nicely. The menu is very much a modern one, focusing on a range of stone baked pizzas, burgers, buttermilk chicken, along with a small number of traditional pub classics such as Fish & Chips. We all went for the pizzas, my own choice being the 'Monster Meat' variety. I have to say, they fall a bit behind the peerless pizzas you get at the White Rabbit in Oxford (and are a little more expensive too) but they are a decent second and we all enjoyed our food. Service was good - the young staff here are polite, friendly and efficient.

We had the function room for a private do. A lot of stairs involved, firstly to get to the room and then the toilets are up even more stairs. Gents toilets had some dodgy wiring. Luckily our party outweighed the negatives.

This is the third time we’ve visited, travelling from London to join in with the quiz! It’s a fantastic night, the food is excellent and the quiz is such fun. Quizmaster Chris pitches it at exactly the right level, rounds are varied and we love the bingo afterwards! Brilliant fun, thank you!

I really love coming to the Kings Head and Bell because the atmosphere is really down to earth, drinks are a good price and the bar staff are lovely. Sarah in particular always looks after us and is a pleasure to chat to.

Beers are pretty good! Food below par and a weird atmosphere, not very welcoming for non-locals.

We used to come here to do quiz night on a Sunday evening, but decided not to bother with it from now on, this is because there are too many teams cheating, the same teams always win and get every question right, one evening I saw a member of a team going outside then coming in saying I found the answer ,with there phone still in there hand. I’ve also seen another member of a team outside on his phone looking up answers, he was vaping outside but he vapes in the pub too, so why go outside ? In must be desperate times if you have to cheat to win a £15 drinks voucher, good luck to those that don’t cheat.

Did not eat this time. Here for the live music. Bands were really good. Pub has gone downhill since my last visit. Toilets are not functioning, broken seats, locks and no running water to wash your hands. Very busy with two parties, live music and only two staff in the main bar, they did really well keeping up, just a shame about the loos.

Had to wait to be served while the staff chatted with other staff, that was the 1st pint. 2nd pint, delivered way down the bar from where I was. Need this barmaid on their quiz/music nights. Shame.

Excellent service!! Super busy night, but JJ was wonderful and generous with his service. The pizza was exactly what we wanted. And, incredible buffalo wings! Loved the ciders we had too!

Stopped for lunch half way to our weekend away on the coast.. we'd already checked out the menu and it didn't disappoint... lots of choice and quality fresh ingredients! My husband said it was the best chicken burger he's ever had! My veggie salad was great, sharing chips - excellent... Alicia & Amy top notch gals , we’ll be back in the summer to see you!! Xx

Food is always amazing, the chef Dezi is very accommodating. The bar staff, Emily, mason and JJ are very friendly and make us feel very welcome every week. This is our favourite place to come <3 The cauliflower wings slap so hard. They are our favourite. Especially when Dezi makes them.

Superb venue for my wife’s 40th birthday! We had friends and family travel from all over the UK to be with us, and they all commented on how lovely the venue was. Paul the owner was fantastic throughout the whole process, and on the night the staff couldn’t be more helpful - particularly Mason (the manager) who ensured we had everything we needed, kept us informed of our running tab throughout the evening, and was great to deal with - and Emily who ensured the drinks were flowing and that everyone felt catered for. Overall a great experience and our profound gratitude to Paul and the team for such a brilliant evening!

9 of us visited this beautiful little pub on Monday evening to have a meal with our lovely colleague who was moving on to a new job. We were not disappointed. The service was warm and friendly. The food hot fresh and delicious 😋 I had the scampi, chips and mushy peas. One of our group chose the BOGOF burger offer, eating one meal at the table, whilst taking the other home. 2 of our group had pizzas, which were huge and very tasty. The atmosphere was nice and relaxing. Have been here before with friends for lunch also and will return again. Thank you! 😊

I took my team of 25 for a meal today. Extremely disappointing experience. We booked a private area only to find ourselves in the middle of a quiz night. Cold food, minimum service with constant chasing for cutlery and napkins. Not fair on the server while 3 other team members were standing and chatting behind the bar. Avoid if you are planning to have a special evening. £1000 was very badly spent.

Good experience. Had 20people Xmas lunch do and the team were amazing giving out everyone meals on time and extremely kind. Meals were good value too.

The worst pizza I’ve ever had , waitress was rude and looked like she just woke up , bar staff were friendly , but if you like raw pizza this is the place . Tables were dirty and toilets weren’t much better , don’t bother with this place gone down hill

Booked for 13 people for a Christmas Work Party, and everything went off without a hitch! It was a lovely evening, delicious Turkey, and most importantly - all were happy! Service was great and as efficient as could be. It was clearly a busy evening but even the Kitchen staff checked in on us to make sure everything was alright with the food - what a lovely team. It was a nice surprise to have a Quiz on immediately afterwards so a few of us stuck around for that and had a giggle with the bar staff. Highly enjoyable evening. Would sincerely recommend for a wee shindig 😊

So much potential, sadly pretty much wasted. Where to start. Well it's a lovely old building that's had a couple of conservatories added to give more inside seating that pubs need these days. There's a wide variety of beers, wine and spirits which is good. The food is poor though, it's just pizzas or burgers with childish gimmicky names and not done to a very high standard. The bar staff are a mixed bag, a couple of the lads seem to actually care, the rest wouldn't know customer service if it jumped up and bit them. Glasses and plates are left on tables for ages whether there's people sat at the table or not, often meaning an empty table is dirty and uninviting, even when cleared the table isn't wiped down so it's often dirty with random food detritus. I don't think the toilets are ever checked as there's regularly no loo roll. Not a suprise though when the manager is omniabsent on busy nights, other than when he's with his mates having a drink. Someone had to point him out to me, as all the times I've been I've never seen him working a Thursday,  Friday, Saturday or Sunday,  so if that's the example the staff have, there's no wonder I overheard a conversation last night (Sunday, quiz night, very busy still at 10.30) that although they could open until 11 they'd been busy and wanted to go home so were shutting at 10.30. In this age of pubs closing all the time, that seems crazy. I may pop in with friends for the occasional pub quiz in future as they're always fun , but for other outings I shall be looking to spend my money elsewhere.

The staff could really do with changing their attitude. We had a Christmas meal with friends and the staff were very rude. Ignoring people, rolling their eyes, and being completely miserable. I used to love The Kings Head and Bell but I won't be returning in a hurry.

I went last night and had the best meal ever, great service and great beer too! Definitely recommended. Situated right by the town centre, nice and easy to find! Would easily go back in a heartbeat!

We had a Christmas do in king's head and Bell, booked for 19：30, food was served at 10pm. after two and half hours waiting! And That's the smallest Christmas dinner I've ever had, one slice of turkey, one slice of carrot, one slice of parslip, a very dry stuffing ball and some peas with tiny bit gravy!(more gravy arrived after we finished), the food wasn't hot either. There's no service at all, we had to pass the meals and desserts from the end of table to the other side, and there were 12people between that! I just can't believe it's could be so awful, the worst thing is before we left, no one came to us to say sorry or check if everything was ok.😤

Really disappointing. We were asked to pre order as there were 15 of us attending. Table was booked for 7pm with food planned for 7.15. At 7.45 we were still waiting and had to chase. We eventually got starters at 8pm. Staff then came over to advise they couldn’t fulfill main course order and we had to reorder some dishes. When we were asked at end of meal if everything had been ok I said no stating the above reasons and this was acknowledged with a half shrug and a smile and that was it. Not at all impressed !

Came for Christmas works do . Food, atmosphere, company absolutely brilliant ,thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend, not just for Xmas . Great place to eat and most definitely be back 😊

Nasty bar manager ruined a family get together. Distgusting.

Very common for there not to be enough staff on, especially in the kitchen. Waiting time for food is horrendous, and it's the same at the bar. The manager is always sat with his friends, drinking, even when the rest of the staff are under pressure. Wouldn't entertain going there again. For food, your far better going to Pablo for a similar price point, but much better service. A team need to be led from the front but it certainly isn't here!

I can't rate the food as we had none. Lovely building though the modern features are very obtrusive. Good beer list, pleasant staff.

We've been a few times and staff are friendly and helpful. We loved the old buildings and enjoyed are food.

We ordered two burgers and could not eat the brioche buns, and the extra bacon on one was missing (that we had paid for). Everything tasted like it was badly defrosted and reheated. The meals took half an hour to arrive despite the pub being virtually empty and no staff members asked us how our meal was while we tried to dismantle the burgers to eat what was edible despite walking past our table several times. We got up to leave having left most of our meals and one member of staff came to whisk away our bowls (note - not plates) and ignored us. Terrible service and meal.

Must have new owners because massive downhill since my last visit. You can always tell when a place is no good by the silly gimmicky names they give to menu items. Everything was pizzas or burgers whereas before they had a wide-ranging menu. My chicken kyiv was dry and chewy with a few bits of garlic on top - not the sauce inside you would expect. The woman behind the bar was surly and unhelpful - I was amazed when she said they had no milk and couldn't do tea or coffee. There's actually a supermarket a few yards away but they obviously couldn't be bothered to go and get some. The pub is interesting as it was King Charles I's base in Abingdon at the end of the Civil War - so it is a great pity that it is now so badly run.

This is a lovely looking pub but let down by the smell of old cooking oil while stood in the bar. Then when using the ladies toilet the sink was blocked, no toilet roll and only one of the loos door locked. Such a shame that such small things not sorted but would make a huge difference.

Fast efficient service and the pizzas were excellent and the butter milk chicken burgers were very tasty 😋

The food here is excellent, personally I would always recommend the pizzas which are made in house, the open kitchen also makes me feel much more comfortable with how my food is prepared

Visited again this last weekend, the latest in a string of disappointments. Paid more for an Amstel Shandy than for a pint of Pravha, which seems absurd. Ordered a pudding, the Stick a flake in me I'm done. Expecting a large dessert for £7.75 on to be presented with the dessert in the picture, hardly worth a fiver, let alone nearly £8. The pub has really gone down hill which is a shame.

Very much enjoyed a large party (about 40 people) in the garden room at The Kings Head and Bell. The evening was chilled and jolly and the location was perfect; the garden room is just adjacent to the main bar and so whilst we had our own space, we had easy access for more drinks. The organised buffet was great and full of range of delicious foods. There was good communication with the organisation of the evening and it was all excellent value. Thanks to the team at the KH&B for a great evening!

Very disappointing went in and paid for a drink. Only then to be told we have no pizza dough , so no pizza. So we had some chips and walked away having no lunch to talk of. Loads of signs outside about their pizza . Carry on like that and this will be the next pub to close in Abingdon! Nice pub but next time I will ask before getting drinks or maybe there won't be a next time?

A great place in Abingdon to drink and eat. They have great fries by the way. We tried beer battered fried onions and garlicky chicky fries. They were fantastic. And vegan burgers are also nice.

Popped in for a quick lunch at opening time (12 noon). Placed our order at about 12.10 after 2 other small tables and had to wait an hour!! I had to ask twice where the food was and wasn't really answered just told it won't be long. When the food did finally arrive we were told oh sorry its because everyone wanted chicken today !!!!?????? Surely that would make it easier. Any way food was grim so definitely not worth the wait and will not be going back nor recommending to anyone.

Nice pub, nice environment, amazing live music but the food was not very tasty and pretty pricey for what was served. I totally recommend it for a drink with friends tho.

Didn't eat.Sat in courtyard, the fake grass was dismal ,covered in cigarette ends look grubby, people were nice.

Upstairs room with bar was a great venue for daughter's 50th birthday party.

Big let down. Walked past on Sunday and saw the billboard outside saying buy one get one free on burgers on Monday evening, so we booked a table online. Turned up on Monday evening, mentioned we had a table booked and were rudely told it don't matter and to sit wherever. Tried ordering on the QR code link, but lots of food said unavailable. Went to order at the bar and heard a couple leave in a huff saying they were not honouring the bogoff burgers. I asked was this true and was told it was true as they are waiting for a new menu to come in. Made no sense to me and the signs said otherwise. Nothing on booking or arrival told us this. Not good to false advertise and a bit of a con. The atmosphere was not nice so we left and won't be trying there again.

Lovely building and outside area. Unfortunately the food doesn’t live up to it and is too expensive for the value. There were great choices on the menu but only half were actually available. There is no service. You order and pay online. Food takes long to come out. Food was disappointing: burger patty very dry, halloumi dry and solid, pulled pork very dry and not much flavor. Portion size was standard to small. All way too expensive. Not going again.

We visited on the 7/4/22 for our weddings anniversary and definitely didn’t regret it! The lady behind the bar was so lovely, really helpful - even letting my indecisive husband taste the beer on tap before settling on one! The food was delicious, I had the Katsu pizza and it was one of the nicest pizzas I’ve had in a long time. The children’s meal could have been a little bigger for my little monster: but not massively. Even when the child’s ice cream was a little delayed in coming out, I reminded the waitress about it, then she asked my daughter how she’d like it, sauce and sprinkles? (Silly question though!😂) then promptly brought it out. We will definitely be returning to this little gem! Thank you for your hospitality! 💐

Has changed a great deal since I frequented this pub 20 years ago. Less cosy snug, more gastropub. Much cleaner, brighter and more inviting than I remember.

We had my daughters baby shower here and it really is a lovely room. There were only 20 of us but it could hold alot more . Good value for money a d fabulous food!

Woeful service, meal took forever to arrive and they didn't bring everyone's meals at the same time meaning some of us finished our starters before others had arrived. Very disappointing as we have been served well previously.

My family and I visited yesterday for a birthday dinner and whilst there is a good selection of food we waited over 30 minutes for food and saw the tables across from us hadn’t even gotten theirs. We asked how long it would be and they hadn’t even started cooking it! Terrible service :(
