Spent a few days in Norfolk with my son & his wife and ended our holiday eating at the Kings Head. We knew it was good as we visited Norfolk a couple of years back and had a good meal here. The staff were amazing, the young man in charge was an excellent host. My disabled son asked for a French trim for his chicken. It was done with a smile and no eyes raised. All our meals were excellent and when we visit Norfolk again we will definitely eat here.

First time back here for 2 years and to be honest we were very disappointed. Menu is now a typical chain pub menu, the service was a bit slow and the pub was half empty. Food was very average as well. My wife had haddock and chips, fish was overcooked so slightly dry. I had the haddock mornay which again was very average and the mash had a couple of lumps in it and was dry, the veg was the highlight, nicely cooked. I don’t think we will eat here again.

After reading a review by NtotheG on his visit last month, I wish I'd read it before visiting. I concur with his sentiments on the ambience and staff, but also on the fish and chips. IMO they haven't changed at all, and if I wasn't with a family group I would've sent it back. This is my first visit for a few months as I'm local, and I won't be rushing back. (On a plus side the Wherry was nice) Such a shame

It was all a bit "nothing". Nothing special; nothing awful. The ambience is pleasant but the food, and service, were very average. I felt that the cost, for what we had, was a little on the high side. It was slightly irritating to be asked if everything was all right whilst actually walking away from us without showing any interest in the answer. We also had to ask twice for the bill. It's not somewhere I would recommend avoiding, but, equally, I would not rush back.

Stayed overnight on a bed and ‘continental’ breakfast basis. Lovely traditional pub and comfortable room although the bathroom could do with a makeover. The evening meal was fine, if a little bland, the crab quiche lacked crab, but the service was attentive and friendly. What a difference in the morning! Breakfast consisted of a glass of juice, bowl of cereals and one slice of toast each and a hot drink. There was no fresh fruit (only dried apricots and banana) no baguette, no meats or cheese. Croissants, according to the unsmiling waitress, were ‘in the oven’ but had still not appeared when we had packed and checked out over half an hour later.

This hotel has a good location but very dangerous exit and entrance as it it just after a blind bend on a busy road. Food and service are mediocre at best. Not good enough for basics such as steak (bavette) and chips and fish and chips. Meals lukewarm: no alternative sauce to hollandaise for steak (waitress said when asked for an alternative; that is what it comes with). Service slow and inattentive. We went elsewhere for our second night dinner as the Kings Head was not up to standard. Room could have been cleaner. Had to request removal of spare bed and bedding from wardrobe so we could hang clothes up. Wash hand basin tap loose and toilet roll holder fell off the wall as it was barely attached. However we reported these and they were fixed at about 6.00 pm the next evening. Breakfast was fine but cooking of bacon and sausages was very variable depending on chef (either flabby bacon or crispy etc). Morning service was good; evening service in restaurant was terrible. Far too long waiting for bad food and inattentive i e. Very slow to take order/clear table etc.

Came here for lunch. Thought I would have the special crab quiche and salad. Couldn't taste any crab whatsoever and the portion tiny A friend had the fish and chips but it was evident that the fish had been sliced into what can only be described as a flat piece. Great service, great location, terrible roast. The meat was sparse and dry, the roast potatoes hard and tasted old, the parsnips, cabbage & broccoli undercooked and not seasoned. The roasted carrot was good. There was no cauliflower cheese. Basically the waiter told us that they had taken 8 walk ins when fully booked and they had run out of food for us. I would never go back or recommend. And £21.50!

I never usually write reviews, but this place is very, very overpriced. £17 for a cheeseburger and chips (that weren't even homemade) and very small portions. You could definitely have a much nicer lunch, for much cheaper, elsewhere.

Plus points - Of our group we sampled a good range of the menu and all diners found it to be nice with local produce which is great to see, service was chipper and knowledgeable about the food on offer - waiter clearly passionate about his profession. Wouldn’t rate it as high end restaurant quality but as far as pubs go it’s good. Negative points would be the prices are quite high for what you actually get for both food and drinks and a pet hate of mine, gratuity already added to the bill (10%). I always tip around 10% anyway provided the service and food is good but I like to make that decision myself rather than have it automatically added to a bill. Overall though definitely worth a visit.

For Mothering Sunday brunch we had a table for 4 There was a special Mothering Sunday menu, which to all extents was a Sunday roast at £32 for 2 courses whether you wanted 2 courses or not. We all ordered, my wife having the vegetarian course, 1 son having chicken, 1 had pork and I ordered lamb shank. It should have rung alarm bells when the lamb dish was brought to the tabl The waitress announced it as beef, and when I explained lamb had been ordered she examined the meat and couldn't decide if it was lamb or beef and had to go back to the kitchen for confirmation. It returned and was pronounced as lamb. I can honestly say it was the worst lamb I have ever been served in my life. It consisted of one solid string of barely cooked meat, not sliced or looking anything like lamb shank. It was basically raw, full of fat,and difficult to cut. Please note, I did not complain as I did not want to spoil my wife's special day with our 2 oldest sons, which doesn't happen very often. They should be ashamed med at charging £32 for this. e

Good selection of local beer and a great selection of wine by the glass, in our experience, one of the best selections of wine by the glass we have come across in Norfolk. Food, drink, service and atmosphere all hit the mark. The Kings Head seems to have become even better which is no doubt due to a lot of hard work behind the scenes. After visiting Felbrigg Hall, we had arranged a lunch here, on what turned out to be a particularly hot Saturday afternoon. We had prebooked outside seating, and were shown to a table just outside of the main entrance with hedges that provided some seclusion. Service is great, and the menu is good pub grub.Starters of smoked salmon, chicken and tarragon CroquetteMains two brilliant ribeye steaks with chips with salad. One cheese burger and chips and some of the best onion rings we have had. The last member of the party had dressed crab. The food was outstanding, as was their service. One only slight downside was the table was right next to the lane to the car park (other side of the hedge) and the landis gravel, which leads to noise and dust.

We visited twice, once for just drinks, and later for a full meal. It a very pleasant, friendly pub with excellent beer and food that tries to be a cut above its peers. unfortunately it often just ends up being fussy and over "Mastercheffy". My salt and pepper squid was well cooked but lacked both salt and pepper. My hake was very good but small and surrounded by a mess of brown spots and purees of indeterminate taste. There was a lack of herbs and local vegetables, particularly asparagus, which is grown in profusion in the parish! Deserts are just ices of various kinds again nothing fresh like strawberries which were in full season. Service is good and enthusiastic.

Both had pork roast, gravy was gloopy and too thick, potatoes were dry, pork was curled up and the cauliflower cheese looked like it had been reheated. Wine was nice but the glass was dirty. Staff were friendly but asked to clear our plates before we’d finished and checked on us 4 times in 10 minutes. Garden is nice for the kids and would but be nice for a drink on a sunny day. We booked a table for lunch - and were delighted when they said they weren’t serving Sunday roasts! We were quickly given our table and someone kindly took our drinks order quickly. We had cycled for an hour and a half to get there so we were thirsty. We liked the look of the menu which had a wide range of tasty attractions. This allowed us to pick and mix so we enjoyed - goat cheese with beetroot and walnuts - tartlet with smoked haddock and leek - tempura prawns - whitebait - halloumi and a good bowl of skinny chips. This was all washed down with a bottle of Pino Grigio - as well as some aperitifs before the meal. The service was pleasant and efficient and (joy) everything came along quickly which on a busy Sunday was very good. We were very pleased with all the dishes, though I think the Greeks would cry at the sight of deep fried halloumi. Much healthier to grill or dry fry it. The bill came to £70 and we added £10 for the good service.

On the extremely wet August evening of my first visit to North Norfolk I had made a reservation at The Kings Head for dinner during the Eat Out To Help Out scheme which I assumed would be a busy time for all restaurants and that making a reservation would be sensible. At the time of booking most restaurants were in their early days of re-opening and I was not entirely surprised to see that The Kings Head’s booking system explained that it was operating outside dining only. Fast-forward to the evening of my booking, which had seen heavy rain throughout the afternoon and which continued as I entered The Kings Head, I was informed that only outside tables were available as ‘all inside tables were booked’(?). Having passed the dripping parasols and soaked trestle tables in the garden I decided this was not for me! I was taken aback by the failure of staff to recognise how ridiculous it was to expect customers to dine outside in the falling rain so I left without dinner, feeling very disappointed and let down.

All the kids there wanted to slide! A 3 metre slide is around £80 and you can get a dark green one so it's not garish. We would have stayed for 3 drinks instead of one if the kids had had more to play on.

Overnight stay and dinner. The room was a little small and overlooked the roof and kitchen extraction, but was otherwise okay. Dinner was very good, and we fully enjoyed starter, main and desert. Breakfast the following morning was a cold buffet style which, for the money, seemed a bit at odds with the dining experience the previous night.

After a long drive on a hot day with 2 dogs, we stopped off for lunch. The tables directly outside the pub were taken or in direct sun, we wanted shade after a 3 hour drive. We went into the huge garden and sat in a shady area all humans and dogs were happy. We got a menu, they were serving from the lunch menu, nice options so chose our food and went to order. We were then told they don't serve food in the garden area and need to be seated directly outside, where no shaded tables are available. Pathetic service, pathetic ruling, particularly when trying to promote social distancing out of the 20 plus tables in the garden only 2 were in use. Really disappointed and won't be returning.

I had the vegetarian Goan curry, 150% sure this is a jar sauce! Such a shame. I paid £14 for something that tasted and is so cheap. Toilets were filthy, shocked.

I’m not usually one for review sites but after our meal I thought it deserved a mention. We had a great time - the staff were helpful and have us great recommendations about food and drink. I enjoyed the pork belly - it really was spot on. Followed by a lush choc brownie! Will definitely visit again next time we are in the area!

I’ve been coming to the pub for a few years now, on and off and it really is just what I needed now that we are able to get out of the house again. I love the look of the new menu, and the pork belly was too tempting to pass up. And it’s so good to see the familiar faces of the excellent staff again.

We popped in to the kings head with the grandkids over half term just as we were passing by. They looked rather busy but the smiley and welcoming staff were more than happy to seat our table of 6. We ordered drinks which came out promptly and our waitress assisted one of my grandchildren whomst is allergic to gluten. Our starters came out (soup and blue cheese arancini), a good temperature, well presented, and quite frankly just delicious. The kids had some bread and olives which they enjoyed too. After a short wait given how busy they were, our main courses were served. I had the crispy pork belly and my wife had the herbed cod loin. The pork belly just fell apart in the mouth and the bubble & squeak served with it was perfect. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the cod loin, it was tender and well presented again. Our waitresses ensured we always had what we needed (which was a lot since there were 4 kids on the table!) But they were very patient and were always polite, kind, and humourous. We didnt go for desserts, as we were so full. All in all, our experience at the Kings Head was 5 star. Service, food, cleanliness and atmosphere included. We will definitely come back when we are back in the area. Don't miss this place!

I first reviewed this pub/restaurant in October 2017 a couple of months after we moved to the area, on that occasion we suffered poor service and delay, readers can find this review. So, we have been here for dinner on two occasions and have found things to be satisfactory if expensive. Our latest visit was on Sunday 9th February, prior to our visit at12:45 a request was made via the front of house manager for a chicken roast lunch to be made available for my wife, chef agreed that this would be not a problem to roast a chicken. So, we arrived and were seated, drinks orders taken and arrived quickly enough. They appear to be efficient enough at getting the drinks delivered its the kitchen that is clearly the problem. We waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive from the time we sat down, this is just not acceptable by any standards. When I made enquiries as to what the delay with the food was the waitress returned to advise it was the chicken that was the problem! Did the chef only roast the chicken when we arrived? If so why, what a shambles. The deserts also took an excessive time to arrive, for goodness sake they are cold and surely ready to go, whats the problem? We will now NEVER return, they have had two chances for Sunday lunch and failed spectacularly on both occasions. This place is not cheap and as I have said before the prices are a bit cheeky. £17.95 for a roast lunch. £4.90 for a pint of 'Lucky lobster', maybe because its micro brewed in Brancaster they feel the can charge an extra £1. Who knows. try it if you feel lucky but beware Sunday lunch.

We visited on the 23rd December for dinner. There were 11of us (6 adults). Good service, nice menu and decent beer and wine. Three adults chose a Hake dish. The fish was excellent but what a tiny portion. The waitress did not pass on my complaint, my guess is the chef made a piece of fish do for three instead of two. The steaks were a good size as were the remainder of dishes.

Called in for a spot of lunch. Nice place and good service although lunch meals a little limited just for smaller dishes. Quality of meals was fair but perhaps needs to be a little more creative.

We stayed at the King’s Head last Saturday night, as part of a party of 6. We’ve stayed before, after visiting Thursford for their Christmas Spectacular. It’s always been nice, but this time the quality of the food was outstanding. Several of us had the braised beef which was cooked to perfection, and whilst the portion wasn’t huge, it was just the right amount. (We always feel that a plate piled high with food if actually off-putting, and isn’t a plus point). One of our party has special dietary requirements, and the staff and chef were very accommodating in adapting the menu choices accordingly. The bar has a good selection of real ales, and the locals, both two- and four-legged were very friendly. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, with lovely views across the field from our room.Breakfast was of the same high standard as the meal the previous evening, with a good choice and local produce. We will certainly book again next time we visit Thursford and would recommend the King’s Head as a base for exploring North Norfolk.

Being local, we've been going to the King's Head for many years and have always enjoyed the food there. We went last night as a group of six, but left feeling somewhat disappointed. The food we had tasted lovely, but all of it came out tepid and on cold plates, so soon went stone cold. Three of us had Braised Beef, which was delicious, but didn't come with much veg - we were asked if we wanted any greens, which we declined as the meal was already £19.50 and at that price we'd expect them to be included. Another person had the Chicken dish, again it all tasted nice, but went cold quickly. Someone else had burger and chips and said the chips were too salty. And the sixth person had steak at £19, which tasted lovely, but was soon cold and only came with a garnish of a few leaves. When you're paying those sort of prices, you expect more of a garnish/vegetables to be included, not as add-ons that you have to pay extra for. We had various desserts and all were lovely, but prices have gone up for those at £7.50 each. The ambiance is still good and the staff are great, but we all commented that that it feels like the place has got a bit above itself and lost its roots somehow, which is a real shame.

This is a "Muddy Boots and Dogs Welcome" sort of place, just outside the lovely old town of Holt.We had Room Number 1 looking out over a field (with bullocks), and a chorus of pheasants in the morning.Great big comfy bed, a clean and neat bathroom, and some rather nice biscuits to go with a cup of tea.Breakfast was V-A-S-T... eggs, bacon, large mushroom (from the field opposite?), delicious local sausage, excellent granary toast.... AND they know how to make a decent cup of tea,

The normal excellent food and service was simply missing tonight, enough to take this off our list fir the future. We visit here around 8 times a year. Tonight we booked a Christmas meal. Soup was lovely. Pate arrived as two large slices with no relish or chutney but only 3 very small pieces of toasted fresh bread - a request for more bread resulted in 2 cold white slices of store bread. Main meal arrived- one had 1 slice of gammon and 2 slices of turkey, the other 4 slices of turkey - all were very. Veru dry. Covered in a largely amount of congealed gravy. With frozen roast potatoes which were not hot, just warm. Vegetables of Brussels, carrots, broccoli and red cabbage along with pigs in blankets were all OK. No parsnips. We sent them both back. Two desserts - Christmas pudding which was lovely and a cheesecake which though huge, wasn't a cheesecake. Two meals with 2 Guinness cost us £60, after a ruffled waitress "comp'd" the drinks.

Site was ok for a pitch up site. Very noisy near and close to the road, ok for one night I suppose if your stuck. The Green Man pub very basic and not like the pictures are showing on Trip Advisor. Not the most scenic site in Norfolk. Will not return .

A stunning place in a stunning location, let down by mis management, no food available on the menu, which I read is the norm. Not satisfactory as we were residents who didn't want to travel outside of the pub. 30 seconds walk to roys, which was ideal on a shopping trip. But the food when it did arrive was tepid! And not very enjoyable...but the icing on the cake was when we sat there for three hours and witnessed the young barman who truly did not smile once...not a welcoming sight for customers!

Great staff, amazing views, nice range of beers. They continue to do a great job on the pier, we are so lucky to have it. It's a treasure that has been beautifully maintained.
