Went with a group and there was another group also plus tables of 2-3-4s so it was as is usual for this place at lunchtime VERY BUSY consequently the service was diabolica because there was only two people waiting on. They certainly need at least another one if not two more staff front of house. I will say though the food as always was excellent it's just the long wait to get it. 🫤💂♂️

We were staying at a B&B up the road & this pub was mentioned as a place to eat at……We were glad that we did. I had Chicken Stroganoff which was so tasty, well presented & a large portion. My other half had a “Special Pie” Steak, Horseradish & Red Wine with creamy mark & peas. The slice of pie was really lovely full to the brill, with plenty of meat in it. The beer was really well kept at room temperature, not chilled which is often the mistake pubs make about real ale. All in all we were really glad we went there to eat…..we would go back if we were in the area.

Popped into this pub for food after leaving the previous pub which had no customer service and no personality, wow, so glad we had food at The Kings head, it was delicious. We had steak pudding and open chicken burger, portions were huge and all home cooked. Absolutely gorgeous ! Excellent work Chef ! We were made to feel welcome, our dog was welcomed with a bowl of water and treats, lovely friendly staff, got talking to a local couple, the experience was all positive. Thank you.

We popped in passing by on a rain spoilt Wednesday. Horrible day. It was 12:30 and full to the rafters. Katy said she didn't have anything for us....😟 then offered us the last table middle of the floor in the bar. We grabbed it! Felt very lucky. The menu is anything you want! Pie...roast...chilli...curry.. but we took no time in ordering what we wanted in seconds. Mine was chilli con carne, hubby's cottage pie veg and extra gravy. It was the best chilli I've had in a long time. So tender and fluffy rice. We LOVED our lunch so much. Hubby even had apple pie and 'extra' custard. We ordered from a seniors menu, with so many choices. We have been here before, a couple of years ago and loved it, no idea why it took so long to come back. But we will definitely be frequent diner's now. Our bill was less than £30 including wine and beer. It's just fantastic 👏 It's just fantastic 👏 its all home cooking, at it's best. Can't wait to try the Sunday carvery very soon.

Friendly staff. Very busy. Huge menu, chose the carvery. Great home cooked food, with everything you want on a Sunday roast! So full but really wanted the plum and apple crumble so I asked for a small portion - they got me the childs one. It was still bit but also lovely! It's not fine dining, but great home cooked food with friendly, helpful waiting staff.

I visited the King's head for lunch on Tuesday this week. As always the staff were fabulous, the girls really are welcoming and the service is always tip top! But can I please just suggest, whoever the wailing banshee is in the kitchen, just refines the way she screams at the poor girls who work there? It was quite busy, they only had 2 girls running around after the whole place and to be spoken to and screamed at in such a way really should be looked at by management!! It's not the first time I've heard kitchen staff shouting out "SERVICE" aggressively or screaming for a waitress. It spoils a nice time out and actually made me feel quite mad and sorry for those poor girls. Other than that everything else was brilliant but I had to say something!

Three of us went for a late carvery since our local was very poor last time we went. Refurbishments have been going on at the King's Head for many months and they always look busy on Sunday afternoons (many cars in car park), so we were keen to visit. We were very impressed with the carvery: a decent portion of 3 different meats and help yourself to as much veg as you like. Oh, and pigs in blankets, which our local charges for (we don't get them as they're never great, anywhere..). The cauliflower cheese was really good and very cheesy (bordering on a little too cheesy), the Yorkshires were fine, (and not some huge, weirdly-shaped things!) and all the veg was cooked perfectly. The stuffing balls were very odd, and I believe they are responsible for me being thirsty all through the night. Another nice touch we liked was a little dish of sauces on our table: the apple, cranberry and mustard were 'normal', possibly from a jar. However the horseradish was amazing! Nice and fiery. We called/booked before arriving, to check if carvery available still. They said 6pm would be the very latest. However others came in after us and went for carvery: I suppose they know it will last till 6pm or they'll compensate somehow, but they'll leave it out until it's gone..? Our young waitress was a bit on the surly side, but not rude. Just not friendly. She did her job fine. Maybe she'd had some bad news or something.. All-in-all a very satisfactory visit and we will be 'carvering' there again some time.

After a car breakdown, we came here for overnight stop, so we were not prepared for this. One lovely lady, who was one of the cooks and whose name I cannot remember, lent us her iphone charger for the time we were there. Liz was very helpful booking us in and getting us the right room, which was a really nice one. The next day Anita cooked us a superb full English and Vicky phoned through and booked us a taxi to get to our car in time for RAC's arrival. They really couldn't do enough for us and so friendly. What more could you want? And very reasonable price for overnight stay.

We were delayed in getting to our B&B nearby, so we didn't get to The King's Head until after the Carvery had closed. However, they were still happy to prepare something for us from their Bar Menu, which was much appreciated. I came here on a Sunday for the first time with my Nan and sister. We booked ahead to make sure we could get in! I rang on up on the Saturday and asked if they did baguettes and lighter lunches or just roast dinners. The lady I spoke to was so friendly and accommodating. She checked with the chef who was happy to offer the bar menu as well as the main dinner menu. My Nan and sister had a roast dinner which looked AMAZING. They both opted for roast beef. They were given loads of perfectly cooked meat and a lot of vegetables too including cheesy broccoli, cheesy cauliflower, carrots, parsnips, roast potatoes, new potatoes, peas! I ordered a tuna baguette and a portion of cheesy chips. These were both very generous portions and very yummy indeed! My sister and Nan went on to order a creme brûlée each. They loved them and were very impressed that it came with two homemade shortbreads, ice cream, strawberries and coulis in a little pot too. There was SO many puddings to choose from and I loved watching them all as they came out of the kitchen. The chocolate brownie looked particularly yummy! We sat in the bar area which was lovely. I would recommend asking to go in the bar area when you book. There is also a function room which is used too but this definitely didn’t look as cosy.Thank you for a lovely dinner and a big shout out to the lovely staff!

I had previously looked online for eating places as we are on a few days away in the area, comments were favourable so I booked a table for 3 including hubby & my 92 year old Mum, we were greeted pleasantly by our waitress & asked which table suited us, after a little problem with the 1st table our fault, we were comfortably seated on a small round one, easier for Mum to get her legs under. I chose the melon bowl and I shared with Mum, hubby had cheesey garlic bread both were really scrumptious, our mains were Chicken stroggonoff and they were helpful when my Mum asked for a small portion, again this was delicious but I could have done with a lot less, hubby had a sirloin steak cooked to perfection, including the drinks the bill was an extremely good price, on our way out a local young man asked if we managed to eat it all and laughed when we said we struggled. It is testament to say we booked a table for a 2nd night in the area & were told they will allocate the same table. Thankyou to the chef & a very pleasant waitress.

A group of us 61 in all were booked in for the sunday carvery, 1pm for 1.30. Found eleven to a round table so tightly squeezed elbow to elbow, our first carvery serving was late, and the last table to be served was at 3pm as they then were waiting for veg. Only one member of staff for our tables and the poor member of staff had to see to the usual persons coming in for a carvery. Not being to a carvery before at this pub, rather concerned that you had to go past all in the bar to reach the carvery and then back again with hot plates and food. There was real confusion where we paid individually for our meal, told we would be paying at the table and then found through people going to there cars that we had to pay at the bar. A very disappointing visit. We have been to this pub lunch time during the week and the service and food was excellent.

I visited this pub last nights with my partner and his parents. (Sunday 24th Nov 2019). We was all thinking about doing a roast like you do on a Sunday, but we had left it a bit late with being out that day, so we called round a few places to see if there was any availability, and came across this pub. I had visited this pub before but not for a few years. But my Mum and my Partners Mum often come here for work meals and they’ve both always enjoyed it. So we got a table booked for 7pm. For a Sunday evening where it was a carvery night we was all expecting it to be fairly busy but people may have come and gone. There is a large car park, with parking by the front entrance too. We noticed a lovely big function room joint onto the back of the pub which looked good. As we made our way in to the pub we was we was served by a young girl from the bar that showed us to our table. We ordered some drinks and browsed through the menus. ( they weren’t presented to you in a proper menu book it was just a piece of paper). They had a wide variety of starters main courses if you didn’t want to choose the Carvery. We ordered when we was all ready. None of us had starters. 3/4 ordered Carvery and one person ordered steak pie. When food was ready the pie was served and we all got told to come up and help ourselves to the Carvery when ready. So we made our way up. The chef would ask what meat you would like and it would be carved for you with a stuffing call and a Yorkshire pudding too. You then help yourself to the rest! - There was a lovely wide range of Roast Potatoes, Parsnips, Pigs in blankets, carrots, peas red cabbage - (this was cooked perfectly), cauliflower cheese or cheesy broccoli dishes top! And a large jug of gravy. We all sat down and enjoyed our meals. This is the nicest Carvery we have ever had from eating out before we all really enjoyed it. The meat wasn’t chewy, the vegetables were not hard, everything was perfect. The compliment on the pie was very good and tasty too. We all enjoyed our evening and would be back for a roast Carvery again soon!! We had room for puddings too. I myself ordered the fresh fruit salad depth fresh cream. This was really good and it was a mixture of Strawberries,Raspberries,Kiwi,Red and Green grapes sliced, Blueberries and Orange melon served in a tall glass with a small jug of pouring cream on the side!- this was lovely I really enjoyed it. My partner ordered the banoffie pie with ice-cream which he managed to eat all off despite it being a large portion. And his Dad ordered Bread and butter pudding with custard which was also very nice. The only thing I would say about the evening was by about 8:30 when we wanted to ask for our bill there was no staff around at all, apart from a young girl that was dishing her dinner up. So we just made our way up to the bar to pay. But overall a really nice meal out.

I despair of local people . most seem to confuse quantity with quality -- anyway ---- we used to eat at the Kings Head quite frequently , but standards were slipping and we stopped going . after a long drive home we decided not to cook , but eat at the Kings Head yesterday evening . we entered the fireless bar/ dining area . a hardworking waitress found time to get drinks for us and take our food order , and ask us to find a table in the restaurant when we were ready . no prob .- that is how it works here . we found a table and two prawn cocktails turned up , on a plate , some whole leaf salad with prawns and dressing and some wholegrain bread with some nice (!) margarine on top. had to ask for small spoons .saw little point in asking for smaller forks . now the cutlery is the cheapest . it's like being back at school . well whatever- that's how it is . I am more interested in decent food . my wife had ordered warmed brie cheese as a main - she is not a big eater . I asked for chicken , leek and mushroom pie . the food arrived , delivered by the same waitress -( a hardworking lass , looking after service and the bar) ., followed by a dish of veg . the pie was disappointing , I found some chicken inside and some button mushrooms that had recently lived in a tin . I put them to one side . ffs fresh mushrooms are not expensive !. the pastry had been made with margarine and was awful .and so to the veg . grey cauliflower . some washed out calabrese and carrots plus some faded peas . these ingredients had obviously come together quite some time ago and had been lobbed in the microwave . they smelt vile . I left them untouched . so a medium white wine , a pint of lager , two less than appetising prawn cocktails , one starter size warmed brie , a few chips ,and a few pieces of chicken picked out from the pie cost £42 . now I would be happy to pay that for a decent meal - more even , for something really good , but for what we got that is outrageous . so sorry Kings Head , we will never darken your door again . the real tragedy is that good value fairly priced food in the Hailsham area is rarer than hens teeth . it really is no surprise so many pubs are failing . big portions of cheap and nasty food ( and expensive )is no way to build a business

I went to this lovely pub a month ago and had an excellent meal and vowed to return to try the Sunday roast. Well worth it. Food quality tops and the staff friendly and efficient.9

This is a venue which you will have no problem in deciding to return to for whatever your choice of meal is, be it a la carte, a set meal or buffet style. An excellent service accompanied by value for money. Plenty of space for a private function. Well worth a visit.

We visited with friends for the pensioner lunches and the food was lovely. We haven't been here for a long time but we were very happy to return. All of our chosen meals were very nicely cooked and tasty. We all like the traditional menu with sausage and mash, liver and bacon, quiche and salad etc. The price has gone up and the meals are quite large portions now. We liked the smaller portions especially for lunchtime meals that were served originally and at a lower price. Only downside side staff could be a bit more friendly, although we realise that it was very busy while we were there.

We had a very disappointing family Sunday lunch for 9 adults. We waited over 30 minutes before we were given menus. Once ordered it was another 30+ minutes before our food was ready. Other tables around us who had arrived after us had their orders taken and food served before us. We seemed to have been put in a corner and forgotten. When our order was ready some were served their food at the table, others had to go and queue for another 10 minutes to get served at the 'carvery'. The 'carvery' is a very small 4ft wide serving area, not big enough for the numbers they are serving so creates a bottleneck. By the time we got back to our table with our food, those who had been served at the table had either finished or their food was going cold while they waited for us. The food was very average. I had the chicken, mushroom and leek pie with very heavy soggy pastry, uncooked on the base. The best thing about the meal was the desserts. We were there for over 2 and a half hours for a 2 course lunch. None of us will be returning to this pub/restaurant.

Portions were large. The food was OK but nothing special. The service was good and the place was clean if a little tired.

We went to the King' s Head on New Year's eve for my husband's 65th birthday, and had an excellent lunch. We were given plenty of time to make our choices which is very difficult as the menu is very varied and impressive. We were not rushed between courses which you can be at lots of places. We also found out they were having a big New Year's do in the evening so they could have been pushy but certainly weren't.

I complained about the hour and a half wait for our food, for my brothers 40th birthday meal. The Proprietor was rude, denied the wait, refused to let me speak and then started to ask personal questions.

I went to the Kings Head for our Christmas Meal, I was impressed that as well as having their Christmas Menu you could also off their Normal Menu and I was very impressed as to how they could provide for my diet and it was nice to have a proper dessert, normally all there is to offer is a sorbet. The staff are very friendly. It is worth a trip, it is advisable to book.

Had a lovely meal here recently. Very well presented with fresh salad and quiche and new potatoes. Very generous portions and finished with a creme brulee which was also very tasty. All the staff were very welcoming and it was an enjoyable experience. Would definitely recommend. It is also very local to us so will be visiting again soon with friends.

This a very fabulous hidden restaurant/bar/accommodation although not that hidden as it is very popular. The food is fantastic. We had the carvery on Tuesday 18 December and it was to die for. I can’t usually eat a lot at lunch time but I finished my overflowing plate easily. Yum Yum!

The staff were very helpful and friendly and coped extremely well serving a large group. The food was very good and generous. We had booked in advance and let them know what everyone was eating, therefore making it easier for the staff.

Been several times and always excellent. Meat and the chicken pie are the best and have been told they cook everything fresh nothing out of a packet or frozen.

We have eaten here many times in the past, always thinking the food could have better, the atmosphere of warmth is lacking, in fact, this time the heating was clearly not on and most of our party had to wear their coats. It is like sitting in a hall. The waitress was excellent, very friendly and efficient. Just wasn't happy - I think it has had its day with us and I think we deserve better.

The only drawback is there is nothing to soak up noisy chatter, Kiel curtains, carpets. Twice, recently we found it very hard to hear each other or friends simply because of other diners. Such a pity.

I went here with family and it is the most bizarre place I have come across mainly due to its interior design or lack of, it’s poor quality school canteen food served in a peculiar fashion as though to imply it was something better.

Had an early dinner.. been many times and portions sizes are big! Food normally very good too but on this occasion a disappointment... I had leek, cheese & potato pie with sauté potatoes & veg. Pie a let down... couldn’t find ANY leek or cheese but LOADS of potatoes?? Though it was Leek & cheese with potato? Not potato with potato and more potato! Not cheap at £11.50 either

First time visit and had full English, was impressed with the quality and quantity. Okay not the cheapest but a really nice breakfast. When we arrived only three people in by the time we left the place was rammed. Great staff and service.

Popped in for a coffee whilst in the area for business. Charming little place. I simply wanted to mention this place as the flat white I had was a great, great cup of coffee. If only other coffee shops could provide similar quality.
