I'm not sure if it's allowed to have crushes on breakfast staff, but if so, then the guy who served us this morning has officially won my heart! Seriously, though, he was incredibly kind and professional. If there are any awards for exceptional service, he deserves one!

Great pub, great location, unfortunately there is one very miserable member of staff who had a face like a slapped bum. The staff were great apart from said middle aged barmaid/waitress who struggled to make eye contact, let alone provide any standard of service. The food was ok, pretty bland, over cooked beef, and a very stodgy Yorkshire. A huge shame as the service and quality of food used to be a lot better.

The lady who answered the phone sounded like she was having a bad day, we booked anyway and when we arrived she didn’t get any better. She didn’t look us in the eyes she just simply said I’ve put you on table 19 we then had to go and find our own table. Once sat down we were ignored for some time. We ordered our food and it arrived very quickly. We ordered two beef roasts. First the coli cheese arrived with carrots and suede with red cabbage then a bowl of peas. The beef was over cooked, the potatoes were so soggy the knife wouldn’t even get through them. The gravy was ok but on the whole there was no flavor. The chef needs to use salt when cooking and learn how to do roast potatoes. Very disappointed.

Paul, lovely little Cornish village up the hill from Newlyn crossroads above Mousehole. Booked online for next day, lovely place, plenty of parking, ordered Local baked Hake and Scampi and chips for my daughter, oh my days the fish was delicious, buttery Cornish potatoes and fresh veggies, the scampi was a very generous portion, very reasonable prices for home cooked food, only a 5 minute drive from Penzance front, please don’t go to Wetherspoons, just pay that little bit more for proper food.

After the game we went to the pub and the staff were very friendly, later in the evening we returned to King Arms and asked if they were still serving food. The food was excellent and extremely large portions, if we ever visit the area again we will definitely be returning to The Kings Arms 👍

Have been going regularly now for few years but was disappointed this last visit as potatoes and beef were really tough… it felt like the roast potatoes had been cooked twice…basically opened it up and ate the inside but outside just too chewy … as was the beef.. Shame as good roast pots important I think … and edible meat. The veggies are always great and the cauliflower cheese …lovely - and Yorkshire pudding…. But all let down by inedible pots and very tough beef. Not sure if want to risk it again.

Everything that is good and bad about Cornwall. Good food and lovely location, but it's the summer side of Easter weekend, so it's full steam ahead, assuming it will be immediately overrun with tourists ready to empty their wallets. So the 2 for £22 offer that made us book in the first place "no longer applies after Easter we might put it back on if it's quiet" I was told. OK, no worries I thought so we ordered from the main menu... asked to do a small portion of a main meal for my 9 year old..."no" I was told... OK, so I'll have the mixed grill please..."do you want some chips because it doesn't come with chips.... what? Just meat? Yes... OK well that why my payment didn't come with a tip if my £25 mixed grill doesn't come with chips.... and the fact we were all but ignored after we had been rushed through our order and even asking for salt seemed a chore. Very very rude. We left not very late but left an empty pub behind us. A real shame and I hope the arrogance and rudeness we encountered this evening doesn't kill it off, I'm sure it will rinse enough over the summer to survive another winter, I hope it does but I doubt I'll rush back as I've eaten far better for less and felt far far more welcome elsewhere this week..... and I didn't need to pee in a portaloo in the carpark

The hotel wifi was down but was given access code for the staff Wi-Fi which worked perfectly. Had dinner of gammon, peas & chips, it arrived quickly but looked like it had been reheated. Went to room found there was a lot of noise from downstairs & other residents (lots of loud footsteps). Breakfast was ok but a little overcooked. I stayed here last year & was a lot better. Absolutely delicious food and we will return but the service was poor. On arrival we were completely ignored by the waitress who walked right past us twice so we found a reserved table for 4 which we assumed must be for ourselves and sat down. She did then walk up and ask our name - so they were expecting us! Menus arrived and we ordered and the main course was outstanding. Delicious, generous helpings and hot plates with piping hot food, locally sourced food too and they were proud of it. We would have loved a desert but the plates were cleared and we were never offered one. We all four live locally, the other couple were actually married in the church opposite. We have holiday cottages nearby so when we recommend we shall recommend the food highly but feel that we should mention that you might not be made to feel very welcome. What a shame the customer service on the evening let it down.

The radiators work (joy!) so you can have the room at the temperature you like (not as common as it should be!) We had various evening meals between us:- pork medallions were tender and tasty, fish and chips, vegetarian lasagne and scampi were all very nice. The gravy was great to. I ordered a half of lager and the bill came to £15.40. bargain I think for what I got. Highly recommended!! They even had disabled parking. . What a true gem in the most beautiful spot! I brought in my very young (and very exited) Pointer pup, she was greeted with nothing but kindness and consideration. The pub was snug, warm and a beautiful example of a Cornish country pub. As I had my dog with me, I was seated in the other room; It was lovely and relaxed but had some brilliant upbeat music to keep the atmosphere. I had the fish and chips...which was exactly was you should expect...absolutely perfect. Super crunchy chips, washed down with a lovely pint. The place is clean, well loved and this oozes from every inch of the place. Myself and wife went here for Sunday carvery it was £15 each and we was disappointed with the quality and the service, we paid for our meals via the on line system and the waitress bought us our drinks and our tickets to take up to the carvery counter, while we was waiting we noticed the chef who was cutting the meat was sweating profusely and wiping brow with his arm, when I got to the counter I asked him for beef and pork and he cut them about 3 inches thick! Far too thick to cut with a regular knife easily, and the pork had so much white fat around it, the yorkshires were disgustingly awful, the road potatoes were very hard and tasted stale, the squares of stuffing were very nice tho as was the buttered carrots and the cabbage, unfortunately the Swede was a bit tasteless and we had to scrape the gravy barrel to try to get some gravy out!! Overall a disappointment to be honest, even the table we was on was wobbly, also to point out as well it was very very warm in there. Unfortunately we won’t be returning, we might of just been unlucky because the pub was busy and is in a loverly location, so it might of just been a bad day.

The golden lion pub in St. Ives, Cornwall is a big golden lie. The only semi accurate portion of their image is the lion. All of the food tasted as if it was found inside the rotting, months-old carcass of a poached lion. The onion rings were wet and pustular, they tasted as if they were fried in the neck oil of the surly bartender who took our order. The testicular mushrooms were the best thing we ordered even though the garlic mayo on the side resembled a tepid bowl of curdled man-milk. The burgers were obviously cooked on a griddle that hasn’t been cleaned in years. The food had remnants of meals from years past. Giving it a vintage, nostalgic quality. The chicken was shriveled and flavorless with enough mayonnaise goop on it to feed a family of 4. While waiting waiting for the fhood, we had time to take in the odor of unwashed children and great-grandpas ashtray. The table we sat at had a stickiness that I’ve only felt on the gummy underside of a second graders desk. 3 hours later, while writing this review, we taste these rancid flavors once again through accursed burps. This truly remarkable combination of disgusting furniture, surly servers, and god-awful food has truly cemented this place into our hall of shame.

It’s not often you can see the boat that caught your lunch from your table. A real gem of a place. Sitting outside in the courtyard on a sunny Octobers day. If a fabulous seafood restaurant is your thing then you should try this. Delicious fresh crab salads washed down with a glass of Cornish brewed beer. Just the ticket thankyou.
