We’ve come here previously for a roast when been visiting family, but pleasantly surprised since our last trip to find they now have a Thai restaurant. The Thai bit is a separate part of the pub we sat in, unsure if you can order it and still sit in the main pub or not. The food was really authentic and up there with some of the best Thai food we have had! Mixed starter was a good option, with really fragrant fish cakes. We had someone in our party with an allergy and they handled that really well with clear details on allergens in foods and what to avoid. Definitely recommend checking this place out!

Love this pub, but have not rated here since Thai menu was introduced so was not sure what to expect. As I'm lactose intolerant I usually check out the vegan options when out, even though I eat meat, as I know they will be lactose free, and was delighted to see all the sauce options here are vegan, (therefore I assume, lactose free) so I could have sauce I knew wouldn't give me stomach ache, but with meat of my choice, if I wanted it! The waitress was extremely helpful talking me through the vegan ( lactose free) sweet options too- for another day, as we were way too full for pudding , having been extravagant and ordered wonderful mixed starter as well as and Thai green curry with salt and pepper chips, as we were celebrating a birthday. The lady who served our drinks took time to top up our fizzy drinks to the brim, rather than giving us glasses that were only full by time fizz had settled, as some places do! Beautifully tasty and filling food, top service, top venue. Well done Kings Arms.👍👍👍

We have been to the kings arms previously for Sunday lunch and recently booked with our children and parents. It has changed to a Thai restaurant with a Sunday roast dinner option. We all ordered Sunday dinners, 2 pork, 3 trio and one roast. During our dinner the power went out and we spent about 15 min eating in the dark. My roast beef tasted rotten, like it was off, and inedible. I had the trio so I was still able to enjoy my meal with the rest of the family, my mother in law also commented on the taste of the beef as tasting funny. When mentioned to the server she got her manager/cook? Who sniffed the meat and didn’t really offer any explanation or resolution. We can only assume that the meat had been cooked, let to go cold and reheated. Now for £17.50 for the trio and £2 for extra gravy, £4 for a few pieces of cauliflower cheese, you would expect a decent Sunday lunch. I understand that errors happen, but the lack of ownership was sad. We were offered dessert which we didn’t really fancy as I was kind of put off after how bad the meat tasted, then 2 pound off- Not really acceptable. The manager/chef was really argumentative when my husband asked for the meal to be taken off. In the end 2 meals were taken off, which we appreciate but it would have been nicer to have that offered in the first place. Maybe it should just offer Thai food, as it seems that is what they mainly offer. Thai food and decor in a beautiful, traditional pub was just odd.

Just Thai on the Heath restaurant at the Kings Arms is the best Thai food I have eaten in years The food is very authentic, the tempura chicken was amazing the batter on the chicken was the best I have eaten, even the onion rings was cooked in the same batter, my wife and I was very impressed with every dish that we ate. the staff was great very attentive and gave you time to enjoy your food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try authentic Thai food. I cannot under stand why people are not queuing out of the door.

Brilliant meal with the family. The Thai food was absolutely delicious - probably the best we've had since a visit to Malaysia, and beat other well respected Leeds venues hands down. Slight criticism was that it was very dark. Some might like the cosy feel but was too dark for my tastes, but I wouldn't let that put me off - it didn't really affect the enjoyment of the evening I had.

Visited Kings Arms to dine at the new Thai restaurant. The restaurant was excellent, good Thai food & a large selection to choose from. The staff were great, helpful & very friendly. Only a couple of small moans, the lighting is pretty dim, not good for the food photos. One young waitress who was very eager to offer advice on the menu didn’t seem to know much about the different meals, like I said the menu is quite large. The pub itself is as always a nice place to visit, decent selection of drinks & good staff if a little stretched at times as it often is busy. Perhaps some of the regulars a little abrupt. I got the impression some thought it was their pub in their village and should be served first. Could be wrong they might not even live there but got the impression ! The Thai restaurant is great and I will return.

Visited last night for diner and the beer and food was, as always, excellent.First of all the beer, I chose the guest beer from the Castle Rock Brewery in Nottingham which was a stout called Sherwood Reserve which was served in excellent condition and was very tasty indeed.Foe starters I had the grilled cajun chicken skewers which were absolutely scrumptious, Sue, my wife had the smoked salmon and prawn roulade which she enjoyed very much. For mains we both chose the steak and Ossett ale pie and what a wise choice it was, the pies are no less than excellent and are packed to the gunnels with steak and the pastry is very nice too, they came with home made chips and fresh vegetables and an individual jug of gravy. It will not be long before we are back to sample more of the food on the menu, the prices are, I think, very reasonable and the portion sizes on the generous side, that along with the friendly service and array of choices and qualities of the real ales, not just the Ossett Brewery ales but guests as well makes the decision to visit again a no brainer.

This was my first time here at this Ossett Brewery pub. The pub is in a great location and is a grade II listed building. It seems to have little rooms everywhere and apparently lit by gaslight. A group of four of us sat in the conservatory. The menu is quite varied but not overly extensive. Our meals were ordered and came promptly. In general all was ok apart from one meal...the red pesto monkfish. When it arrived we all looked in disbelief at the size of the fish portion. It was probably just over 1" square and 1" thick.(I know monkfish is an expensive fish but It just looked very small). This was mentioned to the manager and she promptly had a word with the chef who agreed to supply a second piece of fish. This eventually was delivered but had no pesto sauce on. After further discussion the cost of the meal was refunded.Other meals we had were perfectly satisfactory and tasty. Here is where I have to congratulate the manager as she was very professional and very courteous in her dealings with us and things were sorted amicably.Overall a reasonable visit. Will definitely have to give it another try as the pies looked super.

Reluctantly giving this place 3 stars instead of the 5 the food deserves. Visited on a very hot day and ordered at the bar. 10 minutes later our friend’s’ fish and chips arrived but 20 minutes later the other two dishes hadn’t. Went to the bar and was told the chef was playing up and that he was sorry. Around 5 minutes later, the food arrived. So 25 minutes after the first lot of food arrived and our friends had finished their meal, our food arrived. When the food did arrive it was incredibly tasty and fresh. I well recommend the chicken and leek pie (Wednesday is pie day) with their super tasty chips! Haloumi sticks to start were also very good. The bar area was also really overcrowded and it took 15 minutes to get served for drinks, which added to our frustrations. Shame about the service but would definitely try this place again to try another pie as the setting is lovely and there is lots of outdoor seating.

By the time my meal was replaced both my friends had finished their meal and sat chatting. At last, my meal arrived, Steak almost well done again, dry, no sauce. Having met up with my Brother recently,we arranged to go for a walk together although he did not know where I had got planned.Setting off from our Starting Point at Stanley Ferry, we walked a route down the side of the Waters edge and along a pathway through a Wooded area with many twists and turns along the way, which brought us both out eventually facing Heath Hall along Heath Common. On arrival we called into the Kings Arms,a cosy Dim Lit Building which has many regular visitors because of the many Guest Beers, and a Warm Open Fire. There is also a Conservatory to the rear along with a Beer Garden and external seating, for when the weather is at its best.We both decided after a while to order some Food, and whilst I only wanted something Light at the Time, ordered the Homemade Mediterranean Soup.My Brother on the other hand decided on the Steak and Ale Pie which came with a Short Crust Pastry Lid on top of a Ceramic Dish full of Steak chunks. This came with an accompaniment of Chips and Vegetables, and by the look of the empty plate afterwards,it seems this hit the spot. Two drinks later and we were off on our way back to the starting point to which we had set off.I really like this place as it is Quaint,Warmly, and Cosy, yet the only problem for me is that it is not nearer my own Doorstep.Nice place to take a cosy Meal and Drink.

The second time we did phone ahead but were told that it was booked up but we might be able to get a table a the bar (which we did). We both had roast beef which was excellent. We called in this evening for drinks and after reading the menu on the table in the main bar, decided to stay for dinner. We moved to the conservatory which is beautifully and simply decorated with fairy lights and candles. We both had a starter and a roast dinner. Delicious food and great service.

We called on a Saturday lunchtime and were surprised at how busy it was. The pub is in a fantastic location overlooking the heath with plenty of parking available and great walks and open grassland on its doorstep. This old pub is a maze of rooms, some of them tiny and also has a light and airy conservatory. They had a great selection of cask ales and ciders on offer.I had the seafood sharing platter as a main course and was amazed at how large the plate was for £13. There was a pile of prawns/shrimps, and generous portions of whitebait, anchovies and smoked salmon with warm bread and salad. The whitebait were lovely and crispy and the anchovies were meaty and tasted superb. The prawns were a little cold and watery for my tasting. My friend had the fish pie which he enjoyed but the portion size was a little on the small side with only a few vegetables as accompaniment,It must be over 20 years since my last visit and I'd forgotten what a hidden gem this place is.

We visited the Kings Arms early today after a lovely walk in the surrounding area. The Pub is very cosy & has 2 rooms which are dog friendly. Been considerate dog owners, we checked with the other patrons in the room that they were comfortable with us bringing our dog in. We did not dine, the Sunday Lunch menu looked great & the pub had a great ambience. Thank you, we will be back to dine in the near future.

What a quirky place. Really old world, dark wood and labelling everywhere. Looked like gas lighting, surely not.!Had a snack lunch, burger and chips and a sandwich and chips. Good food quickly served at a fair price. Can't report on the beer as I was driving. First visit there not the last. Thank you.

This is a great little pub that we have been visiting for many years. Great location and my husband assures me that the beer is great,(I am not a beer drinker). We have eaten there before, not very often but the food was usually quite good, and good value for money.HOWEVER, this sunday we decided to call for lunch. MISTAKE!.The portion was smaller than a childs portion, 2 very small slices of beef, a small scoop of mashed potato, unseasoned, no roast potatoes, a small yorkshire pudding and a very poor portion of frozen mixed veg with 2 frozen sprouts and a few pieces of totally raw roast parsnip. The plate was stone cold and was only 1 third full.THE WORST PUB SUNDAY LUNCH EVER.We will not be returning.I felt sorry for the very polite staff and we were fully refunded but were told that this was a normal portion given by the present chef who clearly needs to review his supplier as we were told broccoli was hard to get at the moment!I do wish I had photographed the meal to show just how poor it was.I am afraid the chef needs a talking to and needs to up his game! The people on the table next to us also agreed that it was a poor excuse for a sunday lunch!SO DISSAPOINTED.

We visited on Sunday lunchtime, which was fairly quiet, and service was good. The battered fish and chips was excellent; the Sunday roast was fine (although diced mixed vegetables always suggest the frozen food aisle rather than fresh) but the mushroom and asparagus risotto, the only vegetarian option, was a disgusting mush of overcooked rice. Like most people we didn't want to make a fuss, but commented to the waiter who collected the plates, the lady who took the credit card payment, and the restaurant manager who was stood by the door. All three offered a shrug and nothing more. We won't be going back, and I definitely wouldn't recommend on the basis of our experience, unless you want fish and chips.

We visited with friends on a Friday night, the food was good but the service was very poor. There was plenty of staff but at times we're talking in groups. The table was booked for 7pm we sat down on time but waited a while for our order to be taken none of us had a starter, then we waited ages for our meal to arrive I asked for vinegar my friend asked for ketchup once again it took a while to come vinegar first then after another wait the ketchup came. To finish our meal we ordered Irish coffees, the young waiter came back and asked what liquor we would like?. It's such a shame because the restaurant is very well done but we all agreed we would go for a drink but no more meals.

Today was supposed to be a lunch treat for my friend for Christmas, deep fried halloumi was ok however our sandwiches were very poor (soggy bread and undercooked filling) , the salad was miniscule, the chips were nice but not many of them, I complained about my sandwich and my money was refunded by 2 lovely servers who obviously felt embarrassed at the poor quality of the food.We left feeling very disappointed and I will be treating my friend to another meal somewhere else.

We went on Sunday tea for my mums birthday. Everything was lovely until we dare complain about my mums chicken which was ver dry and really not very nice. The young male waiter was telling us about the rules of complaining the best he could bless him, when a young lady came and very agresivly told us we had no right to complain as she had already asked is everything was ok earlier just as she they had placed the plates on the table. Obviously we hadn't tried much on our plate at that point. We were so shocked at her manner! This is a real shame as the rest of the food was lovely and the place itself traditional. I feel their rules about complaints should be listed somewhere on the menu and the staff should ask if the meal is ok at least halfway through the meal instead of the instant they place it on the table not giving chance to try. Please send your staff on a customer care course so other people are not put off returning by her. The chef then decided to give free deserts which was lovely of him.Real shame you let you let your pub down young lady!

Excellent, down to earth and ‘proper!’

This is a very old pub with several small, quirky areas for eating and/or drinking. We had our meal in the conservatory as the other rooms were busy. The food was excellent, tasty and plentiful. Our only regret was that after our main course we were too full to sample the desserts! The pub serves a good selection of local ales and is very popular with cyclists and walkers.

Today I went to the kings arms with family & friends for a good Sunday meal. I wasn’t disappointed it was lovely. We all had three courses for £17 the choice was good, portion size excellent. You know the meal was made with fresh ingredients as the food I feel was “homely”. I would recommend the Brie as starter, fish pie for main and chocolate brownie sundae. Lovely staff great setting.

Family meal for 3. Food quality excellent (scallops cooked to perfection for the starter and lamb fell off the bone on the lamb shank but was still moist). Service excellent with someone always appearing at the right time and everyone recieved their dishes at the same time. It was that good that we all treated ourselves to dessert. All in all a very enjoyable experience with the beer form Osset brewery at less than £3 per pint capping off the experience.

Passed by here many times before but as the main part seemed a little run down we hadn't given it a second thought. This time however, We were in need of a break as our journey had been fraught with heavy traffic so we pulled in and were so glad that we did. A very pleasant refreshment stop, with helpful, friendly and smiling staff meant that we stayed a little longer than intended. We shall definitely call in again when travelling this route.
