Not been in for a year or two the old skittles ally is very much now a locals bar as the main pub is I believe for evening dining very good pint of bass for only 3.90 per pint clean bar not unfriendly

Great place to chill out and de-stress watching the 2024 Paris Olympics on a lsuper-clear and large flat tv screen whilst enjoying a decent pint of Bass and traditional crusty roll with a choice of fillings. Free house, dart board, pool table and a separate function room. Small parking area which might require you looking further afield to park. A reliable pint for real-ale drinkers and a warm welcome.

Evening meal was ok. Meat over cooked and dry. I had chicken wrap which was burnt and dry. Husband ordered medium rare steak which was very well done. friendly and good service from bar staff. Shame about the food.

Had my daughters 18th birthday party in the restaurant, excellent food, talked with Tash And Ben and they catered for what we wanted and much more AMAZING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . Thank you

This place is exceptional I have never tasted anything so delicious 😋 I had the rump steak 🥩 with peppercorn and cheese and herb potatoes 🥔 My partner had Gammon and herb potatoes 🥔 all served on a bed of peppers 🫑 and Onions 1 pint 🍺 of Madras lager and a Coffee ☕️ ( Mug ) All came too £34.00 Excellent 👍 Xx

My partner, niece and I stopped for a meal on Sunday and it was nothing short of delicious! The people who run the pub are lovely and welcoming and we enjoyed the atmosphere and food very much. I really appreciated the choice of ciders on tap, and my partner enjoyed his IPA as well. I wish we could have fitted in a dessert, but our delicious roasts were filling enough that we couldn't quite manage it... next time!

We got stuck on the M5 for hours in traffic and stopped here for a drink and bite to eat.The staff and Landlady and Landlord were very helpful in writing us a map to find our way back on the road in the dark,as my phone had ran out of battery and they had no charger. We had two Vegetable Chilli's with chips,which had a vast array of beans in and plenty of spice and much to our surprise was served with a lovely side salad,totally delicious and if I lived nearer would go in just for that! 😃🥰😍 🌶🌶🌶 🥒🥬🍅🧅

Masses of parking, a colossal amount of space both indoors and out. Food is very reasonably priced and good quality. There was the added bonus of a having a singer to entertain us under the open-sided marquee - unusual at this early time of day (from around 5pm). Staff are pleasant, the one-way system works well. Everywhere is clean and there are multiple hand sanitisation stations throughout. A thoroughly enjoyable early evening and well-worth a visit.

this small pub gets better every time we visit! We took four friends for the first time and they were delighted. It is 'pub grub' but of a seriously high standrd and quality. If you want a treat, try the 'Eaton Mess'. Well worth a visit.

Just had lunch for the first time since new ownership - really welcoming owners and a warm feel (the fire was roaring too!!). Could have stayed all afternoon. Lunch was good value, well presented and very tasty - the Eton mess (for another table) looked very tempting. Would recommend for lunch - will be booking for the Christmas menu (from 1 Dec). Thanks

Visited the pub this eve for a change of scenery and so glad we did! The food was spot on. We had the sausage and mash and the homemade lasagne. Always dubious of the pub grub not being that great due to most places now just heating up frozen food. Not the case here... the food was indeed homemade and so tasty, we will be back again.

Visited here with the family for lunch on Saturday 24th August and we were very impressed with the ploughman’s that three of us had. Lovely big portions and very good value for money. My daughter had the chicken and salad and that was great two. Nice, friendly pub run by good people. We’ll be back when in the area next.

Very nice pub lovely friendly staff reasonable food prices

We came across this quirky little pub after taking a wrong road. What a surprise! Whilst it is not an extensive pub menu, it is well prepared and fresh, with great prices. As it was hot weather, we ordered a ham and cheese plowman’s. The loaded plate had three thick slices of local home cooked ham, two slices of tasty cheddar, pickles, coleslaw, dill pickles, salad and baguettes and butter. Real ale made it complete. Shame I was driving. Well worth a visit. We will be returning to try the evening menue.

Visited for lunch before a football match. We had a very nice welcome from the excellent barman (sorry, didn't get his name but he is very good at his job). We had a couple of very reasonably priced drinks (much cheaper than we are used to in Bristol) and some pub grub which was very good. No problem in leaving the car in the car park during the match either. I was going to give this place a 4 star review but the barman and welcoming environment bumped it up to a 5 !

Under new management now. As of Jan 2019. They have opened a "sports bar" around the back which is usually full. Food is good and great value too.

Whilst the look of the pub is nice and in a nice location the Sunday lunch was dreadful. Aunt Bessie does well here as they were certainly her roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. Avoid at all costs for lunch !

I don't know how you don't have a Michelin Star! The most amazing food I've come across in a long time! Every single part of my Beef Roast Dinner was special! The flavour of the meat which was cooked to perfection, and even the red cabbage was beautiful! The homemade coleslaw on my starter was so good I could of ate a bowl of that alone as a main! My daughter's kids meal was massive and she loved her dessert too! Very good value for money I would of personally paid a lot more for the food and your staff are a credit to you, genuinely nice and happy to help! Will be coming here a lot more from now on!!

What a fantastic find. We went here with friends there were 5 of us. Lovely decor and the food was fabulous. All home cooked. Each one of us said how fantastic our meals were. Definitely on the list to go back. Haven’t ever had a home made pie like that. It was lovely and the natchos was a starter!!!! Without the chips. Thank you

Husband and I went for the Valentine's meal last night. The place had been tastefully decorated for Valentine's and we received a glass of prosecco on arrival. We were shown to a lovely little table in a secluded intimate corner. The staff were cheerful, pleasant and knowledgeable. The food was exceptional and piping hot. The prices were very fair and not too expensive. At the end of the evening all the ladies were given a real red rose (not one of those plastic pathetic ones). My husband said the beer was very good, unfortunately I was driving. The crowd was friendly and good fun and we was welcomed by everyone. Overall we had a fantastic night, laughed a lot, ate too much and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Service is very slow,manager was very unpolite,place was dirty,and toilets filthy. Pub as gone down hill since last people owned it,decor as changed,Beer prices have risen,would never go back there again

The service was very friendly and there was a warm atmosphere of a proper local pub. The food was good value and quality. For real ale lovers there was Bass and Doombar on offer. I'm not keen on Doombar so didn't try it but the bass was well kept.

We came here for food and drink during a bike ride. The food was really good, and the beer good too. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. I'd recommend this pub to anyone.

Nada era demasiado problema incluso hasta 2 Comidas vegetariana prepara, extras y cambios en las comidas hecho sin problemas. Comidas llegaron junto así que todos están en el mismo tiempo. Muy bien preparado y bien servido. Todo a un precio muy razonable. Bien merece una visita.

Lovely, dog friendly, welcoming staff and landlords: traditional pub. Good wholesome food (Monday is pie night - recommended). Also best pub quiz in the village (alternate Thursdays). Skittle alley, yet to be tried. Worth a visit.

No esperes un lujoso bar moderno es un pueblo típico pub nada sofisticado probablemente con una buena limpia a hacer más presentable. Sin embargo, la comida es buena con un amplio raciones y la el personal es servicial y tentativos genial para una parada en el camino a casa desde el trabajo probarlo

Having recently moved to the area, we saw that the King Bill was literally 2 minutes up the road so we had to check it out. The afternoon post moving, we walked down and had a great meal and decent pint. We have since gone back every week! Genuinely decent food at a decent price, great staff, friendly locals. If you are in the area you gotta check these guys out.

Having recently moved to the area, we wanted to check out this pub. Genuinely impressed. Food is fantastic, and well priced. The staff are always friendly and happy to chat. Locals are friendly too. We now go once a week if we can especially as its only a walk up the road!

Have passed here once or twice and always thought it looked a little rough however I was mistaken! Lovely darkly lit pub with lots of choice for drinks. Friendly bar staff too. I never knew but there are pool tables and a football table upstairs with a small seating area too. Will definitely be back. Did not try any food so cannot comment on food.

Went for a Sunday lunch. What an absolute mistake! The party ordered 2 roast pork dinners, 2 lamb dinners, 2 ploughmans with ham (bowl of chips on the side) and 1 cheese and ham baguette. 10 mins later this poor young girl came out to inform us there was no roast lamb left, this was quickly swapped for roast beef. Waiting more than 30 mins and the girl comes out again saying there's no ham for the ploughmans or the baguette! 1 ploughmans was swapped for chicken and cheese baguette the other baguette just cheese, I cancelled my main and just went for the bowl of chips. 20 mins later the food comes out and the meals were fine if you like dry beef poorly disguised with gravy and half cooked chips. I ended up getting my refund for the ploughmans. After reading the other reviews I think people must be blind or their taste buds don't work, that's if they actually have any meals in supply from there very small basic pub menu. I'll never be eating there again, instead I'll just keep driving past it. Thanks for a memorable Father's Day, off to McDonald's.

We went here for Sunday lunch as we were on the road from Bristol looking for somewhere to eat. While it didn't look too inspiring from outside it was actually very busy and had a decent menu. The children had scampi & chips which was a generous size plateful and at a very reasonable price. I only had a starter but it was just right for a small appetite!You won't be disappointed!

I have been to this restaurant so many times, I have lost count.We were there last week to celebrate a couple of belated birthdays.The atmosphere is great, nice open fires during the winter.You must book, we booked a table for 6 people for 7pm on a wednesday , by 8.15 the place was packed, and it's a very big place!!!The restaurant has a very good reputation for its vegetarian food, It has won many awards, one of our guests recommend this place to us,We shared starters as we know that the mains will be very, very good indeed.My daughter had individual beef Wellington for her main, my son in law had a steak. Which he says it's the best he's had!My son tried the lamb hot pot for a change, he did enjoy it, but said he will go back to have the steak, others had the vegi options.To full to have a dessert, thinking of going there for Christmas party, as I know we wil not be disappointed, this is the best pub restauarant I have been to, im not a regular for pub meals, but this is the place to go, give it a try if you have not been before.They staff a very freindly, and have got to know our "little group" So if your looking for a pub with very good food, this place is a must!!!!

A small and traditional pub on the main road through the village, it consists of two rooms with a small patio area at the rear and some decking at the front of the pub. The main bar area to the right is a somewhat unusual shape and has a carpeted floor with khaki green paintwork and some dark wood panelling on the lower part of the walls and a few old black and white photographs of the locale dotted around. A disused brick fire-place was off to one side and a plasma was mounted up above it showing a sports channel, although fortunately the volume was off and so it was not too intrusive. A restaurant area to the left had a slightly dated appearance but was broadly similar décor wise and this also had a stone fire-place that only appeared to have a decorative wood burning stove in it. Food wise, the menu offered a good selection of pub grub dishes divided in to sections such as grills, curries and classics and these included Lasagne, fish & chips, hunter’s chicken, etc. These were mostly priced around the £7 mark, although many were also available at certain times as part of a “2 for £10” deal and in addition to this there was a small specials board. We were only there for lunch so went for a prawn Marie Rose baguette with chips and home-made coleslaw and a cheese and ham toastie. These were both very generous portions with the fillings oozing out and represented very good value for money. Beers on tap were Doom Bar and Bass whilst the ciders were Thatcher’s Dry and Thatcher’s Gold. All in all I thought this was a decent village boozer and well worth popping in for a pint or a bite to eat.

Oasis in the middle of nowhere We were in the area and looking for a pub serving food, after looking on Google Earth the King William IV appeared to be the only pub in the village of Hallen, but Goole Earth wasn’t sure if the pub was closed or not! So not expecting much we drove there. What a lovely pub! nicely painted with decking and tables and chairs at the front and large car park at the rear. We went in and received a warm welcome at the bar, after asking about food they said, “Yes, they were doing food until 9.00pm.” After looking at the main menu, this was very comprehensive and loads of choice for a pub, they also had a two for £10.00 menu and a specials board. We settled for and ordered Place and chips, this came in good time piping hot and a good plate full. Within a few minutes we were asked if everything was ok and if we needed anything else. All in all a great pub, good service, very friendly and well worth calling in, I know we will next time we are nearby. John of Newport
