The King of Prussia in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

I’ve stayed at a lot of different Hotels & Pub B&B in Fowey and other places in Cornwall!! But the king has surpassed them all beautiful, super clean room fabulous view. The staff was amazing and friendly. They were knowledgeable of the area gave me information even though I’ve been there several times of NEW places to visit. The food absolutely delicious from lobster ravioli starter to the scallop plus their Sunday roast. I will definitely be staying there again!! Last, but not least for once they had pillows that were plush not the flat hard as a Rock ones you usually get because I’m allergic to downfilled ones!! I could not say enough great things about staying there. Well done everyone at the King of Prussia. 5 stars

This was a truly awful experience. The menu looked nice when we walked in during the afternoon and we were pleasantly surprised they had a table on Friday night at such short notice. This should have been a warning sign. As an “amuse bouche” we were presented with a soggy sweet macaroon filled with fish paste (yes, seriously!). This was followed by venison on smeary indistinct sauces and a pot of tired stew topped with undercooked potatoes. The restaurant was almost completely empty but when a young couple walked in all four of the staff behind the bar ignored them and they had to walk right up to the bar to get attention. This is a pretentious restaurant, charging fine-dining prices but utterly failing to deliver. Probably the worst restaurant meal we’ve ever had. I hate to be so negative but this is an accurate description and I struggle to find anything positive to say - apart from, perhaps, the side order of chips was OK.

I don’t want this to be a negative review as I loved the restaurant and its food, especially at the price level they ask. Greeted warmly and professionally by the female maitre d’ and then served excellently by the other waiting staff. The food was cooked using high quality produce, and presented with imagination and care. However, the whole experience was marred by the confusing concept of what the venue wants to be. Is it a wannabe posh restaurant or is it a bar ?? With a policy of letting drinkers with dogs in to use the small bar drinking/seating area, the venue loses its ambience, at one time we had 4 dogs in the restaurant at the same time and naturally the loud barking started, totally overpowering any conversation trying to be held at the table. I’m sure it was an exception for this to happen, but the fact it did, warrants some consideration by the owners. But, overall fab food (at a very low price level for the quality), fab location and decor and fab staff.. recommended!!

Food was excellent , atmosphere nice , staff lovely But please decide if you’re a bar or a restaurant too many dogs and drinkers !

We wanted to try some Cornish oysters. Order the natural oysters expecting oysters as served all around the world in their natural state. Sadly they had been blanched and then served to us. Above room temperature and such an unusual texture to what we thought was a natural oyster. Explained this to the waitress. She then said leave a negative review as they have lots of complaints about the way the oysters are served but the management do not take note from the client feedback.

Since The King has been under new management we, family members and friends have paid several visits between us. The refurbishment is lovely and the situation of The King is perfect. It is a fine dining restaurant so I would not expect the portion size to be large and the food, on the whole, has been lovely. However, the service lets this establishment down. It is very slow, with no communication from staff about the long wait between courses. On separate occasions we have had to ask where our food is with no explanation given for the delay. On no occasion when we, friends or family were visiting was the restaurant full. In fact the waiting staff appeared to be hanging around. This is not an inexpensive restaurant and until the service issues are addressed sadly we will not be returning.

The quality of the food did not merit £50 a head. Even the first glass of wine was off. There was slow service but the staff tried hard to please.

I had one of the worst meals I have had in a long time. I ordered the duck breast with spring rolls. The size of my 1 piece of duck was so small - no garnish other than a chargrilled spring onion and half a small tomato 2 soggy spring rolls on pebbles. Our meals looked nothing like this photo. We were all so disappointed especially considering what they charge. There was no garnish on any of our orders and then they charge an extra £5 if you ask for something. I certainly wouldnt recommend The King of Prussia. Such a shame as the location is so perfect.

Very welcoming spot for lunch. Amazing view, great staff and food. Moule was fab, kids loved Ragu and fish and chips. Highly recommended and cheaper luck than other eateries in the town. Best view in Fowey. Don’t be put off by the “posh” look of the place.

Enjoyed a meal here. By far not the cheapest place in Fowey, nor the easiest to book a table in. Website booking is glitchy and wants a deposit which was blocked by my card provider, nobody answers the phone so had to call in and speak to someone in person to book. Food was very good quality and atmosphere was very pleasant also. Wines on offer were also good quality. Feel though that your paying about 7% more than its actually worth. Staff very friendly, pleasant and happy to engage with you. Would happily eat here again.

Just had a fantastic stay at the King of Prussia Fowey. Their boutique rooms are stunning with a vista to match over the estuary. The staff were all extremely helpful and the Crab Thermidor Fries were out of this world.

This Resturant is Fantastic , beautifully served and wonderful staff ! The Resturant has a calm , atmosphere, with wonderful views over the water . We were also given some lovely complimentary starters and deserts . Booked a room for my husbands birthday. Somewhat shabby on arrival but shown to a clean bedroom with view over the square and harbour. Loo was disgusting which my husband had to clean. We then realised our door wouldn’t close so we reported this to the staff (I believe he may have been the manager) who said he would send up a lad in a couple of hours with a hairdryer! That was never going to fix the problem. The door physically wouldn’t shut. We said we were leaving and he said fine. No placatory sentiments, so that was our weekend ruined and we just came home

We haven't eaten here this year but have been regulars when visiting by boat in past years. It's gone downhill, a very restricted specials menu with several sold out at 8pm dirty tables and staff that clearly didn't care Asked for pint of Proper Job and caught them pouring Tribute. Meals were standard Wetherspoons pub grub quality. Paid at the end of the meal by contactless and fortunately got a printed itemised bill. They'd charged me for 3 drinks we didn't have when I disputed the bill, not even an apology. The corrected bill of £60+ for a burger, scampi, a pint, and a large glass of wine is still more than it was worth.

Really inflexible chef. Such a shame as it has great potential but the menu is tricky if you have ANY food intolerances at all and they aren’t accommodating. An equal value swap out wasn’t even considered. It meant one of our party couldn’t eat at all. Waitress was sweet and could only apologise for the chef.

Stumbled across this pub on our holiday in Fowey and spotted sunday roasts were on at only £13.95 with a good range of meats. Portions were very generous and the bar had a lovely atmosphere inside with live music - was the highlight dinner of our stay 😊

As a family of 9 we stood there today for around 7 minutes getting completely ignored by the two young members of staff who were about a meter and a half away from us. At one point I even asked if there was a table to which I got told “there’s a couple” and then continued to be ignored. We went around the corner and had a lovely mean in a local pub and had meals and drinks there.

We had a table by the window and so could see the world go by (and see Stephen Seagul stealing some chips from an unsuspecting eater!) We had pawn cocktail salad and steak and kidney pie - both were delicious.

Ideal spot just set back from the waterfront with shaded seating outside. Food looked nice but we were a bit late to order in time. Good choice of beers and ciders. Barman was nice, unfortunately the girl/woman with him insisted on smirking and giggling every time one of us walked in to order or use the toilets, upon checking each other over, we couldn’t see any obvious reason for such childish behaviour!

We popped in here for a quick supper after checking out the other places in town - many of which were booked up. We had a great seafood linguine - full of fish with a creamy sauce & the homemade fish pie at a table overlooking the harbour. We didn’t have time for desert. The surroundings are basic & need an update but I’m sure this will come in time.

A fantastic Sunday lunch for Father’s Day with the family. Excellent food, good range nicely presented and plenty of it. Perfect.

Booked in for 5 nights and wished it was a longer stay. Set in a small square overlooking the Fowey estuary I instantly felt relaxed. Welcoming hosts, good sized clean room and excellent breakfast each morning made a choice to return in the future a very easy one.

We found here following poor reception in another local pub. Simon was very welcoming and managed excellent service even though he was on his own serving both bar and restaurant. Food was excellent. Highly recommend the fish and chips. Dogs were made a huge fuss of too. Highly recommended

Friendly atmosphere. Lovely pub. Had the most delicious and best gluten free fish and chips. The down side is that I now won't accept anything less than what was served here... And I live 5 hours away. Can't wait to return. Only negative is the tartare sauce. Wasn't unpleasant but very artificial.

We use the pub regularly for Sunday lunch. But the quality of the food has dropped dramatically and some of the dishes were not worth the money. It use to be very nice and food was good. But know is terrible apart from the music by William Powell. We will not be returning for a while. The chef is the key for success.

We had a Sunday roast here. The portions were huge but of average quality and the food was tepid. The dinner was completely covered in gravy; a jug on the side would be so much better. I honestly couldn’t recommend.
