Another great stay at the Kilpeck Inn for our biannual assault on the coarse fish stocks of the nearby River Wye. We had three rooms for three nights, all of which were very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the two evening meals were superb. The cooked breakfast was delicious with all local ingredients. We have been before and will be back. It's far and away the best place we've found to stay south of Hereford. Be warned the restaurant and bar is closed on Monday - We used it as a great excuse to visit the Beefy Boys in Hereford.

Terrible service but good food. Which do you choose? They keep forgetting what we asked. Asked wine and sauce for three times, which came when food was already cold. Asked for a cup of coffee which never came at the end 🤣 I think this service ruined the dinner.

Decided last minute to go for Sunday lunch, fortunately despite the last minute decision to go out for lunch, popped in at 11.30am (as we live in kilpeck) to enquire and they very kindly found us a table. Table booked for 13.00. Food was absolutely faultless, we both opted for the muscles starter, and then followed by roast beef. Despite being local to this fabulous little gem, we use it quite rarely, usually birthdays and anniversaries !! We both commented on this occasion that the service was 110% From the friendly greeting, to the service we received at the table, very very attentive staff, which went above and beyond. Thank you to the amazing team members who are a credit to the kilpeck inn.

What a find! We stayed here for one night whilst in the area and were lucky enough to arrive in time for an evening meal at this understandably popular place. The food was a delight... with an extensive menu which included gluten free options. The menu also had a wonderful note at the bottom which stated they would make efforts to reduce cross contamination which is great had we been travelling with our coeliac daughter. It beats the usual off-putting disclaimer, focusing on what they'll try to do to help rather than what they can't do! The food was sublime. We were so impressed and soon understood why the venue was so popular. I had a marvellous vegetable risotto whilst my husband had salmon. Both were excellent, timely and fresh tasting. We stayed the night here so we're lucky enough to sample the accomodation and breakfast, both of which were an equally high standard. The rooms are clean, comfortable and cosy for a good night's rest. Breakfast was brilliant, nicely presented and plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here... and would return in a heartbeat if we were exploring the area again.

There’s centuries of history in this village pub. Apparently it was originally a cottage built in about 1650 from stones taken from a Norman castle which was demolished during the Civil War. It opened as a pub in about 1750.But, as with many village pubs, the emphasis is now on diners, rather than drinkers. More places should aspire to the “local and seasonal” take on the food that the Kilpeck offers. As in Wye Valley asparagus, partnered with a “houmous” made from white beans and wild garlic. A hazelnut pesto may not be seasonal or local but it really worked, drizzled across the top of the asparagus. The other starter was their interpretation of the modern classic – scallops, just seared, with cauliflower, dabs of apple puree and black pudding. A bit oddly, the black pud was served cold, whilst everything else was hot. A spring vegetable risotto was a very generous affair (and couldn’t be finished). Nicely cooked “al dente” rice with wild garlic leaves, pea shoots, asparagus and spring onions. Really delicious. Pork fillet was cooked to “pink” and came stuffed with a mix of nettles and sage. There’s a perfectly cooked fondant potato and lightly cooked summer kale provided some texture contrast. A well made cider sauce reminded you this is cider country. So, that’s four plates of very enjoyable food to round off a week’s stay in the area.

We booked table in the restaurant area a good few weeks in advance - arrived to be taken to a table in the bar/lounge area, not what we asked for. Sticky tables with cutlery laid on these sticky tables, not hygienic. Dead vase of daffodils on every table, how hard is it to refresh these? Starters and desserts were nice but the roast dinner wasn't great, the roast potatoes had the most unusual unpleasant taste as if they were either cooked in old oil or were cooked days earlier and reheated, spoiled the lunch.

A lovely pub. Was very busy as it was mothers day. Had to wait a short while as table wasn't ready for us. Once seated had our menus. No drinks menu or order. Had to ask for water twice. Other tables got their drinks before us who were seated later. Food was lovely although took a while but they were very busy so understandable, had to ask for cutlery for deserts, our starters came before our drinks, which was a bit weird. Had to ask for card machine to enable us to pay, then was asked to wait until they had sorted the cash and card. To make sure it was correct. We were then asked to leave as they needed the table for the next seating. If they had been a bit quicker looking after us. We would have left on time anyway. Felt as if we have your money please go now, which put a bit of a dampener on the afternoon. I probably would go again but not on a day like mothers day see if its better service. We felt a bit awkward having to ask for everything. I put it down to it being mothers day.

The table service was by a pleasant young lady but it was amateurish. We gave our wine order three times to two different ladies which then did arrive but after we had started our first course. To start with she was unable to give us the wine list as all the available copies were with other tables. Is it so difficult or expensive to have sufficient copies of the wine list? My starter of mussels was presented without any cutlery so I had to use the dessert spoon already laid on the table. The mussels dish was small (12- 15 shells) and the mussels themselves were small - seemingly no better than a typical budget supermarket vacuum pack. They were served with an-over creamy sauce which was woefully underseasoned. The sourdough toast was good. My partner had the pheasant breast starter which was chewy. My wife, an excellent and experienced cook, could give this chef a lesson on how to optimise pheasant. For main I had the duck breast - a generous portion well cooked and seasoned, served with cavalo nero but with unseasoned potato terrine cake. My partner had a beer-battered hake which she said was excellent, although the accompanying chips were only average and might have been from a frozen catering pack, presented in the now ubiquitous wire basket. She did have a white Rioja which was reasonable, but I had a large glass of an Argentinian Malbec which was terrible, so awful that I left most of it and still had heartburn afterwards. I suspect that the red wine was from a bottle that had been open many days, as it was clearly oxidised. Ordering by the glass you do not get the chance to taste the wine that you would have if ordering a whole bottle. Feeling less than enthusiastic about our experience we left without desserts or coffee. Would we return? Yes, if pushed and be much more careful about our choices.

As a local who used to regularly eat and drink here,(and supported the pub during the lockdown) we have stopped coming for some time due to the Manageress. For some reason she seemingly did her utmost to deter locals from using the pub (laying up all the tables in the bar for breakfast at the beginning of the evening shift so we had nowhere to sit, openly telling staff not to talk to the locals etc) This approach has worked very well but having now heard she has left, we ventured out again last night and what a difference. The staff actually said hello when we walked in and gave us a warm welcome and we were able to sit in the bar again. The atmosphere was friendly and it was like it used to be a few years ago. So good to have Amy back behind the bar and wonderful to be treated like a valued customer again as opposed to an inconvenience. We might even start eating here again!

I had dined here previously two months ago. After eating the food I immediately went to the manageress to book my 70th Birthday meal, such was the ambience, quality of food and the interpersonal skills of the staff. I booked their private room which could be part of the restaurant or you could just close the doors and be separate, we did both on the evening and it was perfect. The manageress, Isabela, could not have been more helpful in arranging all the details for this very special evening ( I find that certain comments made about her, previous to this statement completely incomprehensible and totally inaccurate as far as I am concerned). On the evening of my 70th EVERYTHING could not have been better. Some of my guests have travelled all over the world and are dedicated "foodies" , they raved about the food and the service. In my past life I have also been a chef and I could find no fault in the food, waitressing and management. I for one will definitely be supporting this fantastic venue for as many years as I am allowed. I am a Herefordshire lad, born and bred, all I can say is that if every Restaurant, Inn etc. in Herefordshire were as good as The Kilpeck Inn the county would be a desired venue for foodies the world over.

My parents booked and treated the 10 of us to this this lunch to celebrate my mums 80th birthday which was a real treat for all if us as it was a one off, very special family occasion. The food was delicious and loved the ambience of this good, old fashioned pub. Experience slightly ruined by being made to feel a degree uncomfortable throughout the meal by one of the waitresses (unfortunately allocated to our table!!) being rather abrupt and dismissive....she made it feel like we were a bit of an annoying hindrance to her working day (other waitress was lovely)...luckily my mum and dad were enjoying their lunch surrounded by their closest family so appeared unaware of the officious waitress (her attitude was however picked up on by others in our family).....therefore to summarise a fantastic meal and occasion...but slight bad taste left in the mouth by the attitude of this particular staff member.

The Kilpeck Inn is a beautiful village venue, the food was beutiful and the accommodation lovely, we really did love it, however it was extremely over shadowed by one particular member of staff call ISabella. This lady made a very awkward and unwelcoming atmosphere to not only ourselves but some other customers too, who made some comments of her unwelcoming charm and abruptness. The other staff we absolutely lovely and where happy to help, one of the younger girls was chatting away to us about our visit which was lovely and then was moved on swiftly and rudely by Isabella, it seems they are working in quite an uncomfortable environment alongside her. We felt that not only did Isabella not want our custom when we asked for the last room available but that the idea of having us stay for a meal was not on her agenda! This member of staff really does take the shine off what is a beautiful place to stay, if it wasn't for that one member of staff we would definitely return here.

The staff were in masks and there was sanitizer available. We ate the rare breed pork chop. It was a thick loin chop but the skin had not been rendered at all. Therefore a lot of the chop was inedible. The accompaniments were mixed. The braised pease were nice as was the sausage meat ball and black pudding purée. The garlic mash was bland and the meal generally under seasoned. Not really the quality I was expecting. Menu choices are not vast and the food is pricey. The pork chop was £19. We attended a outdoor sitting for a family birthday in the newly erected outdoor seating area. On arrival to our booking we wereplaced on the only table with a heater absent. Not a good start. We were in time moved to one with a working one. After ordering we then were told that in fact there were only 2 steak available of the 5 ordered. This was the first day of reopening - only a matter of hours into service, in rural Herefordshire where, let’s face it - people love a steak. Very poor management indeed. On asking if we required anything else we were soon informed that one of the condiments was also out of stock. The food that did get served was good to be fair but ultimately it was a second choice compromise. To really round the evening off - at around 10pm the drains were ‘woken up’ by whatever means and the stench that ensued was revolting - really rubbing salt into the wounds. Our waitress was good to be fair but the evening was dampened by the terrible management that ultimately meant that we could not have the meals we desired. Surely after months of time to prepare, a better experience should have been easy to achieve. Very poor indeed.

We both had steak for dinner which was delicious and local ice cream for pudding (delicious). Donna and the young chap who both looked after us for the evening really make the place the welcoming pub that it is, they’re a real credit. Breakfast was good, there’s a small selection of cereals and juices on a table and a good menu for hot food; I had a delicious bacon butties and hubby had a full breakfast. The manager is a little more perfunctory than his staff but pleasant enough (he does breakfast). I can understand why, even though it’s a destination or drive to pub, the Kilpeck does so well. The food is every bit as good as it promises and the staff wonderful.

We were both very impressed with the quality of the food. As you would expect all locally sourced. We ere only here for the night but had to have the rack of border lamb - it was sensational as was everything else! Service was prompt and we left very happy, if slightly chilled. May I respectfully suggest if you do use the conservatory to serve food in the evening, then please provide some heat as I was very cold throughout the meal. I did consume 3 pints of local cider and this helped! I think had I come with my wife (not work colleague, then the cold surroundings would have been more of an issue!

Holidaying in the area and sadly many pubs not reopened, so when we detoured off the road on off chance and found this pub not only open but with some of the best food we have experienced for such a long time, we were beyond delighted. We ate outside and had 3 starters between the 2 of us , soufflé and the mussels were superb but the crab risotto was sublime. We both also had pudding, I am going to try making the thyme and raspberry Creme brûlée at home..what a fabulous taste... when we don’t normally like our crime brûlée’s “mucked about with!”We probably should have known the inn had such a great reputation but didn’t, but we do now. Service was great and friendly but the accolades have to go to the chef or chefs. Thank you.

We booked lunch at The Kilpeck Inn without knowing anything about it. We are very glad that we did. The menu is really interesting with much food locally sourced. It is cooked to order but worth the wait. Four of us chose very different meals and the food arrived fresh and hot and delicious. Highly recommend it.

Friendly and efficient takeaway service. Absolutely sublime fish and chips, the fish was so fresh, nicely cooked and perfectly seasoned. The minted peas were divine. The tartare sauce really tasty. An absolute treat at a very reasonable price.

The inn is doing takeaway food during the lockdown. We had fish and chips with crushed garden peas. Two large fillets (each) of lovely thick fish in a superb, crispy batter with very good chips and tasty peas.Highly recommended - they also do Sunday roasts and burgers on some days.

Yet again another faultless meal at the kilpeck Inn, took advantage of the Travelzoo offer, £39.00 for a three course meal for two. Absolutely delicious, started with the muscles and venison Crockett's, we both enjoyed the pork belly as our main, then to finish off sticky toffee pudding, yum yum. Thanks again Ross for a truly delicious meal, thanks also to our extremely attentive waitering staff.

I’ve eaten here quite regularly and can never fault it. Nine of us ate tonight and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and desserts. The veggie gnudi was awesome as well as the pork belly and the steaks were considered the best they’d had for a long time. The staff were really friendly and obliging and there was a good atmosphere and buzz to the place. Feel very lucky that this gem is only up the road from me.

My husband was doing a forging experience & we had orginally booked another place to stay. We were on route when the hotel rang to say that they were flooded out so had to cancel our booking. After a bit of a panic, we rang the Kilpeck Inn. Luckily they had just had a cancellation & could fit us in. We arrived about 6 & were greeted by friendly staff & shown our room, this was clean comfy & cosy. After sorting ourselves out we went down to the pub for food, drink & to relax after a mare of a journey. Again the staff were friendly & chatty. We were shown to our table & ordered our food. It arrived promptly & was delicious. The mussels with pancetta & cider cream was lush & the steak done to perfection. After finishing our meal & making a fuss of the pub dog Ollie we went back to our room. Breakfast the next day was a good start to the day - loved the fresh orange juice. I had lunch there as husband was at the forge - again good service. Ollie decided to keep me company & joined both of us that evening! Another good breakfast saw us on our way. All in all a great couple of nights away with comfy room, good food, friendly staff & an adorable dog to make a fuss of .

Saturday 28th December 2019 - lunch for a family of 5 (ages 21 to 64). This is a very smartly renovated and decorated gastro pub with a very well designed extension. As well as the bar area, there are a number of large alcove areas with single tables so that in these it almost feels like a private dining experience. Service is prompt and friendly. Food excellent - we had a range of mains - duck; hake; pork; and haddock - all with good fresh ingredients perfectly cooked. This place was recommended by foodie friends and boy were they right - it's great!

Rude, extremely disappointing, shocking and disrespectful staff! We arrived after making a booking the day before. I booked 2 Adults, 1 child aged 2. The booking itself was pleasant. We got slightly lost, rang in and again very pleasant. Arrived 7 minutes late and walked into a very ‘local’ pub feel. All eyes on us. We were told by the bar person that they were glad we found them. A woman appeared and looked at my Grandson and commented ‘we don’t have highchairs’ I commented that I’d booked ahead with a child on the booking? She said she would go down in the cellar and dust something suitable to bring up then asked me if I had a chair in my car???!!!! We approached the bar and I said I was confused as I’d booked a child ahead of coming. I was ignored, I said once again and the younger woman behind the bar looked at me and in a slightly raised voice utttered ‘well, yes she’s gone to get you something hasn’t she!!’ Based on this experience I told my Friend we were leaving as being treated like this was way beyond acceptable. I wasn’t happy and I let it be known! My Friend and I were left shocked and felt we had been treated appallingly by 2 extremely rude women. Whilst we were putting my Grandson in the car the older women came out and further patronised us with her offering of a dusted off cellar chair and we told her that her colleague was vile and it had gone beyond the chair. She walked off. Having read through the reviews I can see hands have changed and so this may be why I didn’t receive the reputation I had heard of. I have the feeling they felt they were above us! I’m not easily impressed so their Morgan cars and gold large Baroque chairs only further deepens my suspicions that they think they’re better 🤣🤣
