1st visited The Sun Inn on a visit to Winforton Herefordshire in 2021, and loved it so much that we made sure we visited again during our stay this year. Great food and welcoming hospitality. Photo attached to this review is same as I used in 2021, but quality of food just the same. Cannot fail to recommend. Next time we are in the area, will 100% visit again.

We called in for a drink here. Lovely atmosphere and traditional pub. However, we ordered some desserts and they were pretty awful. Base of chocolate brownies were cremated, you could smell it. When mentioned to landlady she barely acknowledged and certainly no apology. Lager very flat too. A shame as other than that lovely atmosphere but money down the drain on the food.

A lovely stay at the Sun Inn. A nice traditional country pub with a relaxed atmosphere. The pub is cosy and relaxed, and the accommodation, very spacious, modern and clean. The hosts are very friendly and accomodating and the food - both breakfast in the morning and the lovely evening meal we had - was excellent. A great base to explore the nearby hills and lovely villages like Hay on Wye. Highly recommended.

We were on our way to Hay on Wye with some friends , they spotted the Sun Inn we all agreed it looked inviting and pulled into the very empty car park . On entering the landlady came out greeted us and one of our party asked if they served sandwiches ? The landlady was not very clear to begin with and provided a menu , while being somewhat lackadaisical with her explanation and general engagement . In the end I asked her outright if the option of sandwiches were available for our party of 4 . She eventually put us out of our misery and politely informed us that sandwiches were not an option and at no time did she enquire if there was anything else on the menu that could tempt us or if we would at least like any drinks . One of party did ask to use the bathroom which was permitted , we thanked her and left . What we could not understand was we are all hearing of pubs etc struggling to attract customers during these unprecedented times yet she did not seem fazed so the only logical conclusion that can be drawn from our experience is that they are obviously doing exceptionally well and do not require regular custom or income which was a great shame as we did like the look of venue hence deciding to give it a try . Ending on a positive , the raspberries in the car park were very large and ripe so we had a nibble on a few of these while continuing our journey .

Hubby had a burger which was excellent with great chips and I had fish and chips the first time - all really fresh and batter light and yummy . I came across the Sun Inn purely by chance this week and decided to have a lunchtime meal there - what a revelation! The food is locally sourced and everything is made in house, and it shows. The food is just incredible and surprisingly reasonable - the lunchtime special offer for two courses is only £8! The ambience is quiet and redolent of history (host and all-round spiffing guy Tony says that parts of the building date back to the 1600s), so it's the perfect place to relax and let your tastebuds in for a real treat. In these days of overpriced corporate food that tastes of nothing in particular, the food here shows you how real food can be. I'm already trying to think up an excuse to go back! Absolutely brilliant!

The pub/ restaurant has changed hands since we were last there and now serves what is called pub food. It is very good, though, our meals were hot and substantial and very well-cooked and prepared. Three people had fish and chips. There was a choice of cod, haddock and hake and I think one other fish. Two people in our party had haddock and one had cod. I had lasagne, which was served with garlic bread and salad. The lasagne was just right; so often the pasta is soggy or not quite cooked.

Poor service, disorganised, shoddy and cold. Made Faulty Towers look like the Hilton. Took two and a half hours to get a starter and a main course. Took so long the guy in charge obviously thought we had finished and asked if we would like to see a desert menu and we hadn't even had our main. Waited 10 mins at the bar for a drink. Starters were pretty shocking too. Bread with the bread and olives had obviously been warmed in the microwave and then left standing somewhere as is was like a rock. Soup was tasteless. All in all a pretty appalling and charged £74.00 for the experience. Don't waste your money here. Travel up the road and go to the Boat Inn in Whitney.
