Amazing food - great hoppers and lamb curry. Team also helped with baby so we could eat, just a brilliant place to head, recommend!

First time for a Sri Lankan and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Highly recommend.

We’ve been coming here since it opened, can’t believe we haven’t left a review before now! Delicious food with excellent vegan options and some really unique curries - can’t recommend the aubergine and pineapple highly enough. The staff are also always incredibly friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is lovely too. They have a really nice outdoor area for the summer too. Such a lovely hidden gem!

I lived in Sri Lanka for five years and this place reminds me of my favorite restaurants back in Colombo.Excellent, especially the biryani, kottu and the eggplant dish. - one year on and it's still the best Sri Lankan in Bristol.

Lovely lovely restaurant! The food is delicious, especially the cheese kothu, cashew and pea curry, spinach dhal and the rotis. Service is lovely, it’s affordable and feels homely. Highly recommend!

Pretty authentic but lacking a unique twist in my opinion.

We had a great experience here on Saturday night. The restaurant atmosphere was lovely! The food was absolutely perfect! Having travelled to Bristol especially to eat at The Kandyan I can say it was well worth the travel effort and we'll be visiting again soon for sure.

This isn't just a review of the food: for my Christmas present this year I got a lesson with Sam from Kandyan on how to make some gorgeous Sri Lankan dishes and I couldn't be happier! I did the lesson today and had a fantastic laugh with Sam, learning some of the secrets behind how his restaurant does what it does. Kandyan is walking distance from my house so was already a favourite, but now it's a special favourite. And I got to take home all the curries that I made, so tea tonight was pretty darned good. Thank you Sam: I had real fun!

Four of us visited on a quiet monday evening. Background music very unobtrusive. Cool, but not cold. Very friendly staff. Super menu and superb food, cooked 'open plan'. The fried jackfruit seeds are very tasty, not seen them before. Well worth a visit. We visited again on Thursday evening. This time it was fairly busy so more atmospheric. It was quieter after 8pm. The food was fantastic, especially the venison curry. The rest was all vegetarian or vegan and all very well presented and tasty. We think the best way to eat here is to order more dishes than you can eat, share them and take the rest home to savour later ( we took a reusable container with us, planning to !). The 'Cooler' drink was very tasty, I also thought the house red wine was very good. Very friendly staff. A thoroughly enjoyable experience that we shall return and repeat. Thanks, Sam.

It was an amazing learning opportunity and we really feel like we can actually cook them at home now. Sam was a great teacher and shared lots of stories with us as we learnt to cook, which really added to the experience. If you love eating at The Kandyan, or more generally love Sri Lankan food, this is an amazing way to learn how to cook it at home. Plus we got to take everything we cooked home with us!

Sent the wrong food, was 45 minutes late, was cold and the driver went tot he wrong address and i had to go and meet him.

Hands down the best take away I’ve ever had delivered, and I’ve woken up this morning remembering all of the gorgeous flavours and textures. No generic curry sauces, all beautifully prepared, I’ll be ordering again soon and hopefully go in to the restaurant for a meal. Thank you Kandyan!

Stopped here working away last week. The venue is lovely had a lamb curry. It was really top notch. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic food, very unique style, very delicious

The menu continues to evolve - the Buryani used to be a special - but has made it onto the main menu. The chilli squid is now chilli paneer. Both are decadent lusciousness. Top work Sam and crew. And a surprisingly small bill! :-)

We had an amazing time, booking out the pavilion at the back for an anniversary celebration. The atmosphere was very special and the food, served buffet style for our group, was delicious and a talking point for many of us not familiar with Kandyan's delights. Went for dinner here last night and it was by far the best Sri Lankan food I’ve had outside the country. It was very delicious and tasted so authentic. My friend’s first time having the cuisine and she was blown away. The owner Sam was really lovely and came to say hello to us as my friend had stayed in his hotel in Kandy, a pure coincidence! You can tell the place is the passion and heart of someone who knows good food. I will definitely be back!

First time we've eaten Sri Lankan food and Kandyan was first class. The food was delicious and a great atmosphere. A special thanks to our waiter Sameero for his advice on various dishes and spice levels. Have already booked another visit.

This is my second visit to The Kandyan after a couple of years and like the first visit, it does not disappoint, wonderful food, great presentation and flavours also enjoyed the opportunity to sit outside in the back decked area.

Eat in the restaurant itself, alternatively an ideal outdoor garden space awaits guests. Cool in the summer, heated when needed. We enjoyed the outdoor setting of a summer’s evening which was very comfortable and the service was attentive and charming. Having spent 7 years of my adult life living in Sri Lanka I can say with absolute certainty the food served at The Kandyan is the real thing. The two of us enjoyed six very tasty vegetarian curries served with basmati rice. Perfectly delicious. The choice of food and range of drinks is exceptional.

I ordered takeaway from the Kandyan around two years ago and I’m pleased to have found the quality is still just as good and the dining experience was great with friendly staff. I’ve been to Srilanka before and found the food here to be as good as anywhere in SL. It is also my joint favourite Srilankan food in Bristol and I’ve tried all of them. The meat is cooked perfectly and the curry bases are fantastically moreish. The food portions were perfect. It’s been a while since I have eaten well and had a beverage for £25!

We had the 3 curries for just under £15 which was like a thali that came with rice, chutney and sambal which was all delicious. The cashew and pea, brinjal and pineapple and beetroot were our favourite. Just as good as we remembered them from our recent trip to sri lanka! The service was brilliant and everyone very friendly. We can't wait to come back!

This is our second time in the Kandylan and we will definitely be back soon. We love it here! The food is excellent, as are the traditional Arrack cocktails. It is great value. We love speaking to the owner Sam about recommendations for visiting Sri Lanka as he has great tips. We also love how the vegetables are grown locally in St Werburghs Allotment. 5 stars!

Had a fabulous meal at the Kandyan. The food was a great mix of traditional dishes with some delicious twists, which where the inspiration of the chefs. Lovely place for us to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Sam and his team really were fantastic hosts!

The food from here is consistently flavoursome and a cut above the rest, I want to come and eat in the restaurant sometime. The delivery wasn’t showing up on my app so I was surprised when it arrived as it was earlier than the original estimate, it was not a problem, but it helps to be able to see on the map. The driver was polite and efficient, thank you.

We have been here about 4 times now over the past year and the food is always delicious and the staff very friendly. We especially enjoyed the Lamb curry and Lamprais dish, which is a plate with lots of different curries and rice.

, I had the 3 curries meal, it came wrapped in leaves, the flavours were delicious. One of the curries was very spicy, the whole meal balanced out well and I will definitely order again. Not sure what dessert I was sent though, I ordered the wattalapen but received a cake, it was delicious but didn’t fit the description.

Lovely food. Flavours were subtle and delicate, ingredients clearly fresh. Service was awful. They left the door open so it was cold and kept walking back and forth with deliveries from outside on a trolley, squeezing past the table. Despite booking and the restaurant saying it opens until 11, they brought the mains before I’d finished the starter and actually turned the light off at 9.15! Then they presented us with the bill - about a minute after happily serving my friend another glass of wine - and said ‘can you pay now. We’re closing early’. Neither of us were drunk or noisy. They just didn’t feel the need to be respectful.

Such a tasty meal which took us back to Sri Lanka 😍 (although this was definitely spicier 🥵). We had to sit in their outdoor awning as we brought two dogs. The atmosphere wasn't ideal out there as their speakers weren't working and their heater was very loud 😂 We did get forgotten about a couple of times, but the food made up for it 👌 The homemade roti was 💯 The order: Vegetable rolls - £5.80 Egg hopper - £5.20 Pol roti - £5.40 Godhamba roti - £5.40 Chicken thigh rascal - £6.40 Devilled chicken - £13.60 3 curry deal - £14.25 (suchhhh good value) Caramelised pineapple - £6.50 Chaminda - £6.20 Visited March 2024

The kothu is one of the best things I've ever eaten. Love it here.

We ordered a selection of foods to try as it was my first time in an authentic Srilankan place. I enjoyed all of them. The flavours were new and interesting. The food was warm and delicious. I will say, the portion size is on par with the ones in Mowgli - a restaurant known for tapas style meals. So for the very small size of the dishes I felt the prices on the menu were a bit high. But our experience with the service and the taste of the food itself was very good. We may be going back again.

The food was delicious.runs by Sri Lankan guys and It has authentic Sri Lanka food and there are plenty of options to choose from on the menu.chef janitt made a lamb biriyani for us it was so delicious. i have tried many Indian biriyani's and wanted to check the different. me and my wife really love the biriyani and cashew and pea with their authentic red rice. service is ok but need to improve as food was waiting long time on the front of the kitchen.

We had a wonderful morning at one of cookery courses run by the manager Sam who was very interesting and interested in us. A wealth of knowledge and great patience. Sam was generous with his time and the amount of food. Highly recommend the cookery course -we ended up sharing the ample food with our family. The dishes were delicious and we will be back to sample more of the food in the restaurant. Look forward to spending time at the Rangala hotel in Sri Lanka in March .

Food was good and seemed like an authentic Sri Lankan place. There was an item which we ordered which wasn't available and the space itself is also slightly small and crowded but apart from that, would highly recommend trying this out!

I only got a takeaway but will definitely be back to eat in! Delicious food, relaxed and efficient service. Would recommend.

I dropped in without a booking and was made to feel really welcome. The person with me said how he would recommend it to his friends locally. He could tell and appreciate the difference between the Sri Lankan cuisine and the more northern Indian food he would have enjoyed otherwise. It's well worth a visit. Thank you Sam!

Having visited Kandyan many times previously and always loved the food and atmosphere, we booked on to Sam's cookery course on a Sunday morning. It was amazing we ended up cooking everything we had eaten previously in the restaurant (and more) all from scratch. Sam was patient, knowledgeable and so friendly. Wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending Kandyan for a meal or the cookery session, was well worth it. Next on the list hoping to book a stay in Sam's hotel in Sri Lankan in the future. Try this restaurant you will not be disappointed!! 5 stars from us.

Ordered the chicken biriyani and it was very nice and the chicken was nice and soft but there was one negative which was that it was very oily but still nice. Service was nice and friendly staff. Atmosphere was great it was an open kitchen which was nice aswell. The smell was great because of the open kitchen which was also great. I recommend giving this place a go.

Absolutely stunning, walked past it, while with my parents who visited for the weekend and this place caught our eye. Manager Sam managed to squeeze us in despite not having a book. Swift service and cannot fault the food, absolute perfection, would happily recommend to anyone!

Amazing food. Superb chefs and dishes Starters n main served together :( annoying n unnecessary. 2x Front of house staff dreadful. Had to ask to order as did two other tables. Left chef ready food on side going cold. Chefs need a bell to let them know. Had to ask for bill and wave card when ready to pay. But excellent meal fresh different delicious dishes.

Really nice place. The food is pretty decent and the staff were very friendly. The lamb curry I ordered for my was slightly too fragment for my taste but still pretty nice. I had chicken tenders for a starter which were banging. I tried my all of my mates meals too and they were all really nice. They sell nice cold beers too

Overpriced, but good taste. I would consider going back if the prices were a bit better. Being vegetarian, our options were few, we spent £20 per person & still felt hungry at the end. The staff were very accommodating and served with a smile.

My first time trying Sri Lankan food was a few days ago at The Kandyan and I will definitely be back!! The menu was super varied and their summer deal of choice of 3 curries,choice of rice, sambol and poppaddom was incredibly presented, wonderfully delicious and afterwards I was so stuffed and satisfied (I had to ask for the rest in a takeaway box and thank chef Nuwan for his recommendation)

A wonderful restaurant for a vegan so many options me and my friend shared 6 different vegan curries between us which were all fantastic. Great service, one of the best restaurants I have been too in Bristol.

The food here is so delicious. There's loads of veggie and vegan options and a great variety of choices on the menu. The staff are very attentive and friendly. I had the deep fried treats for starter and tried the venison curry, the spicy chicken curry and the kotthu which were all amazing. Would 100% recommend. They also have a meal deals before 6.45pm and frozen curries to take home which all look great value.

Best curry and service in bristol!

Went to try their evening meal deal (which is huge and amazing value for money!) The service was great, the guys there are really friendly and helpful as is the chef Sam. The food was crazy good, really authentic and full of flavour. Left feeling totally stuff after the 3 course. Good value for money too. Looking forward to our next evening there!

Had a fantastic meal in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was excellent and reminded us of our visit to SL with authentic spices and friendly service. The sambol in the hopper to start was warm and smile inducing and the dishes we got for our main were full of flavour - The devilled pork sausage was a real highlight.
