I've been to the coconut tree in Clifton on the mother's Day. Very nice food and very good service. Tuana attended us as she was amazing. The kotthu, pork and hoppers were really good. We'll definitely come back 😊

5⭐️ for their student meal! where else will you find a sit down meal with drink for just 5£? they had the option of kotthu or vegan fried rice for this deal, i had the chicken kotthu. it’s like a mix of roti, vegetables and chicken in a curry stir fry. was much more filling than i expected! it was also very tasty

Nice meal in the Coconut Tree. Service was very chaotic, however. The pork curry was delicious, as was the Dhal. The String Hoppers were very chewy and overcooked. The plain hoppers we had ordered arrived at the very end of the meal and were cold, but the Lunumiris they were served with was delicious. Might go back when it's less busy, but lots of issues to be ironed out.

The food was tasty, but that's where the compliments end I'm afraid. We were eating at 6pm on a Saturday night, so quite early. The chair I sat in was wobbly, and when I changed seats I dislodged a scrunched up piece of used kitchen roll from under the table. There was lots of activity from the staff but little actual interaction with customers. We eventually had our order taken and didn't wait too long before the food arrived. The portions were significantly smaller than I expected. They were tapas sized, even the rice was a tiny portion for the same price as you'd pay in most places for a large bowl. It was also of variable temperature - some felt like it had been served fresh, others like it had sat around and cooled for some considerable time. We begin eating but have no drinks, not even tap water. We managed to flag someone down after several failed attempts and got some tap water and glasses dumped unceremoniously on the table. About 3/4 of the way through eating the first drink arrives, again dumped unceremoniously. We have to ask which drink it is because we aren't offered that information. As we've finished eating the last dish arrives - we sent it back as by now we were pretty fed up and just wanted to get this done with and go. Around the same time the second drink arrives. Yet again, unceremoniously dumped and get again we have to ask what it is. We take this opportunity to cancel the third drink. Someone takes the time to come over and apologise and explain that they'd run out of one of the ingredients and they had gone to buy more. Why they waited a good half hour to inform us of this is beyond me. They also said that he kitchen was really busy which is why a single dish arrives so much later than the others. As I said, it was early evening and if the kitchen is struggling to cope then I'd hate to see it when it's really busy. We were comped the drinks that we actually received and had the optional service charge removed from the bill, something that seems to be increasingly common that belies the "optional" aspect to it. Overall a very disappointing meal and yet another place in Bristol to which I won't be returning.

Visited Thursday, 20th March 2025 We have been before, so we obviously enjoyed our previous visit. Lovely food, so many different flavours, unique to each dish - food Sri Lankan. We kept a list of what we had at our last visit, which was lucky as the menu had been updated. They recommend about 2-3 small plates per person ...... but we don't mind taking home leftovers, and this was a birthday treat. So, with a combination of old tried and tested and a few new additions, we chose 10! They all arrived together, and the feast began, with two raspberry/mint soft drinks to compliment the meal. We loved it, the service was good. My only slight constructive comment was that I enjoy food when it's really hot (temperature, not spice heat), and it was a little cool for me, but I still enjoyed it! We will be back ...... soon! Food and atmosphere was excellent - service could have been better though to be honest. We had to remind staff to bring us things a few times (e.g didn’t give us enough plates) and also had to prompt them about allergens a couple times. I didn’t have this problem with the other The Coconut Tree on Gloucester Rd.

This was our second time here and we were using the fork with a 50% deal. Most of the food and the cocktail were good, and we enjoyed the small portion as we could share, but the seafood fried rice was really really dry, I would not recommend it. The staff from the bar was nice like last time, but the other staff looked tired the whole time, so we didn't really enjoy the service. It was so much different from our last visit here. On top of that, as we were using the 50% deal, we were expecting the discount to be applied to all the food, but sadly, one of the foods on the bill did not and we had to ask the staff to update it for us…

Delicious Sri Lankan food! Great value for money with the Fork! We liked a lot almost everything!! The only thing was that most of the food was very spicy! For people who eat spicy food it's just great! For the rest they must keep it in mind before ordering, as we didn't know that it was soo spicy! Service was very friendly too.

A most enjoyable evening with a wide choice of dishes and tastes.Not only were we served by a young ladybut also adviced on the choice which we made.All this came with a smile and a tip was well deserved.Think jer name was Milly.

Came here for dinner with friends over the weekend and loved it! The food was fantastic and I loved all the cocktails. The service was brilliant, our server Milly explained the menu and gave us some fantastic suggestions (chicken kotthu was a 10/10!!) Thankyou to the whole team for making it a fantastic night!! It was a great experience for lunch in the middle of a busy day at work. Millie and Coops served us quickly and the food was great. Definitely will go again.

Pleasantly surprised by this place! I spend a lot of time in Sri Lanka each year & I have to say Coconut Tree delivered on Sri Lankan flavours - mango curry, brinjal moju & rice were all delicious (I’m veggie). My boyfriend had Goat Curry which he said was excellent. Make sure you order 3 dishes per person as quite small (tapas style). Would definitely come back for my Sri Lankan food fix.

Don’t order from here online. I love this place. But have waited over 2 hours for deliveries and it’s unacceptable. Tonight it’s 3 hours. You can’t get hold of them by phone. So left waiting! Ridiculous sort it out.

I visited Coconut Tree in Bristol last month for lunch. We ordered two shrimp fried rice dishes and shrimp curries. The food didn’t taste fresh, and the rice was sticky. I’ve attached pictures below. The portion sizes were really small for the price, one portion wasn’t enough for one person. Additionally, the girl who served us was unpleasant and rude when we informed her of the issue. For those expecting good Sri Lankan food, I can’t recommend this place at all.

Amazing food, very good quality, great variety for meat eaters and vegetarians. Fun and tasty cocktails. Relaxed and fun atmosphere. All great value! Highly recommend

We first visited 2 years ago on 22nd December and it has now become a bit of a tradition we will hopefully keep to. Despite a staff event in the afternoon we visited lunch time and we're never rushed with the full menu available. Staff here are so helpful, so friendly and the food was piping hot and delicious. I had an absolutely terrible experience at this restaurant. The food was cold, soggy, and tasted horrible. The fried rice, in particular, was made with old, spoiled rice that had clearly gone bad. It was full of clumps and was inedible, but we had to eat it because we were so hungry. The portion sizes were extremely small for the price, making the meal feel like an even bigger rip-off. To make matters worse, the waitress was incredibly rude and dismissive. When we politely shared our concerns about the food, she rudely brushed us off without even acknowledging the issue. After eating the food, I got severely sick due to food poisoning. This level of negligence in food preparation is unacceptable. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this place. It’s not worth the risk to your health or your money.

A bit gobsmacked with the food and service here, service lacklustre, cocktails crap, food was just pretty poor , all food arrived at once which would suggest chef mic was on form, nothing tasted of southern Indian/Tamil spice, I'd suggest giving this one a swerve

Terrible, we asked for food to be staggered but it all came out at once, service is disinterested and slow, food is all microwaved I believe and watery flavourless stodge , the dhal and rice were shocking revolting really, drinks ok , what a shame , I would recommend the owners take a trip to hoppers or similar and understand the food they are trying to cook

I understand the portion sizes but a good part of the food was microwaved leaving the food hot and cold as it couldn't be warmed properly, the drink was okay but a bit sweet, there was also no warning as to what was spicy and extremely spicy!! So it was down to trial and error, overall disappointing the food was hot and cold due to being microwaved, warning about spice levels and the atmosphere was a bit dull with staff eating in with the customers. Over £80 for two of us but they gave us money off for the rice and chicken down to seventy odd pounds but it was expensive for what you got I personally think. I won't be going back.

We really liked the space itself and the food was really good! Unfortunately, the service did not really work out. We came in with a larger group and the waitress kept forgetting orders, many people got their curries without the side and by the time the flatbread/rice arrived (10-15 min later), the curry was cold. We all liked our food, however, due to it arriving at completely different times and constantly having to remind the waitress, our experience wasn't as good as it could have been. Unfortunately, by the end, the waitress seemed annoyed and rather than acknowledging the problem. I would go again for the great food but wouldn't recommend it for a group larger than 4 people.

Okay food Absolutely shocking service

Excellent food, sadly let down by long delays. Our second time collecting food today and our second time waiting an unknown time by the door. This time our order was 30 mins late despite being ordered online ahead of time with one of the available collection slots. Incredibly disappointing.

Good food but don’t feel too excited about the prices: servings are tapas style and you need 2-3 orders per person, so it does ADD UP! Atmosphere is clean and nice, strong wifi. Food was flavourful when amazing (sambol), on the other hand the basmati rice was severely undercooked. Service was totally off but makes sense - only one person attending to patrons

This cuisine was such a delight to try whilst visiting Bristol. Such flavorful and mouth watering spices with great vegan & vegetarian selections. The cashew coconut curry is chefs kiss. The hopper is a must have if you have never tried Sri Lankan dishes. We tried a bunch of wonderful plates. I only wish you were closer to London. Thank You for a delicious experience already an instant new favorite.

Great atmosphere: vibrant but chilled. Lovely staff and delicious food. Would highly recommend. We went for pre-theatre food and it was already buzzing.

Great food and drinks and great service, but it was not authentic Sri Lankan. They were playing a weird mix of drum and bass and jamaican rastafari music, which gave it a very cheap inauthentic vibe. The toilets were beyond disgusting, they made me want to vomit.

Food was decent. Could be more spicier and the portion sizes were very small compared to many other Sri lankan restaurants in the country for the prices paid. The service by the female waitress was not great and not welcoming. Sri lankan hospitality is arguably the best in the world. However, I did not witness this at the restaurant unfortunately and this made my experience disappointing.

Goats curry fab, black pepper pork ok but not the depth of flavour of the goat. Wouldn't bother with a hopper again as a starter. For lunch should have had a hopper and goat curry with perhaps the carrot sambal. But good gf options.

It was quiet when we visited midweek with only one other table in. We ordered the set lunch offer at £15 each. Our waitress was polite and attentive. We all enjoyed the ice tea. The raspberry one was particularly tasty. I personally didn't love the texture of the hopper and found it too sweet. The dal was delicately spiced and aromatic, and the chicken on the bone was tender and had a nice warm after heat. The 5Cs slaw was delicious, though the cabbage slaw may be an acquired taste. It wasn't for us. My husband enjoyed the pumpkin curry, too. The portions are larger than a typical Tapas serving and were plentiful for lunch. I would go back to try the cashew, black pork, and goat curries and chipatis.

I used to come to TCT quite often, until a recent incident, where a staff member had accidentally spilt chilli oil on me. Accidents happen and he was very apologetic about it and I went to the toilet to try and clean my top and skirt. Sadly, after washing my outfit at home, my top remained stained and so I contacted the restaurant about a compensation for the damage, including a proof of purchase and a picture of the stained top, which I only bought a couple of days before visiting the restaurant. I received a response to say that the restaurant was very sorry and that of course they will reimburse me, however after chasing this for a month via email and speaking to the restaurant twice on the phone, they completely ignored me! I was told that the person dealing with this has been chasing the main owner… Clearly, the owner was not interested in resolving this. Very disappointing TCT!

Really enjoyed the cocktails (pina colada and lion cocktail) as well as the tasty unique Sri Lankan food. We were very hungry, having not eaten much all day, so we ordered an egg hopper each and then shared the goat curry, chicken on the bone, devilled chicken wings and pork belly. We had prawn fried rice and roti on the side. It was more than enough (for 2 people) and the flavours and spice levels were incredible - with the goat curry a real standout. Perhaps the food would be deemed too spicy/hot by some, but for me it was amazing. I’d definitely recommend.

Service wasn’t great, agreed a price for bottomless brunch but then when we arrived they changed the price. The staff were quite rude and their bottomless brunch is very limited so would recommend going somewhere else like turtle bay if you want good food and cocktails

Yum yum yum! We ordered as a starter a Hopper with egg each, so tasty! We then orderred, as suggested, 3 dishes each and we had more than enough. I had the chickpeas, calamari, and Dual with a share of bread and sticky rice. Rack if my rusher were sublime and everybody else on the table loved what they ordered. We shared each dish including beef, pork, roast potato, beetroot, cashew curry, oh just way too much but each dish was excellent. If I get the chance to go back I would order just two dishes knowing that we would have plenty. £5 for a pint of beer or cider and cocktails on a rek for one, what more could you ask for?

Popped here for lunch time and opted for the bottomless brunch! Honestly could not fault! & it’s a huge saving especially when you order food let alone all the cocktails! Some which are on fire! Recommend for sure! Thank you Marina, who was super speedy, really helpful and happy.

Food was nice although tapas style so we're encouraged to buy multiple dishes without seeing prices on the menu, service was an absolute joke, long waits with confusion and missed dishes, drinks took forever also.

Lovely food. Menu well set out and we had an interesting range of food Music turned up halfway through the evening was really loud…. so everyone started talking louder. Noise levels simply unpleasant for a nice evening out. We asked for the music to be turned down - it was a tiny bit but still really hard to hear the others at the table. Restaurant was half empty by this stage soo not sure why the music was so loud. Sadly we didn’t stay for dessert as it was uncomfortable to sit in the noise.

I'm not generally a fan of all you can eat/drink deals as they rarely work out but after reading the reviews for Coconut Tree we had to give it a go. AMAZING! The service was fantastic, one waitress (Marina) covered the entire floor and the restaurant was full but she was attentive and managed to look after everybody there so well. We left full, happy and keen to come back.

Worst customer service I’ve ever had.

Visited Coconut Tree Bristol (2 Byron Pl, Clifton) with high hopes, only to endure an almost hour-long wait for food, then inexplicably asked to wait outside in the rain. An absolute disregard for customer comfort and dining experience. The meal, when it finally arrived, could not make up for the dampened spirits and chilled expectations. A true letdown by any standard. Avoid at all costs if you value your time and dining pleasure.

Worst customer service I've ever experienced in a Bristol restaurant. After a nearly hour-long wait for our food, we were astonishingly asked to stand outside in the rain. Utterly unacceptable and disrespectful. The entire ordeal was a dismal display of disregard for customers. A complete disappointment.

Really great food. We were told to order 3 or 4 plates per person as it is tapas style, but we found that we really would have been better off ordering 2 or 3 plates per person and would have been just fine. The calamari, cabbage, deviled chicken wing, and chickpeas were a table favorite.
