A family trip on the Spa Valley railway was just going to be a trip up and down the Railway with a maybe a coffee at the return Station. However, the weather was changeable and raining at the end point, so we headed back into the sun and alighted at Groombridge for a coffee. We discovered the next train was not for 90 mins so we took a short walk from the station and soon stumbled across the Junction Inn Pub. It was now past 12:00 so we considered lunch. We stat down, perused an comprehensive menu and ordered lunch. Most of us had the Sunday roast, with Chicken and beef being the options. Our party divided equally into the two options. The food arrived within 20mins and the portions were huge. My generous beef portion was perfectly cooked to medium rare and had plenty of veg, gravy, potatoes and proper Yorkshire pudding. The chicken was basically an ½ a chicken again served with all the trimmings. Everything was very tasty and hot too. The atmosphere in the pub was relaxed and welcoming. There were plenty of reserved tables demonstrating this is a popular Sunday lunch venue, and justifiably so. So an unexpected pleasure and discovery.

1st visit here. Parking is a bit of a challenge, but found a spot on side street not too far away. Patio in on the road, so really didn't like this. Made a reservation for two " Fathers day" celebration. Promptly seated. Table was next to busy doorway. Every time someone walked by the floor boards moved my chair. Ordered the beef Sunday roast. Food came out hot and delicious. Very very busy place , yet service was still decent. Cricket game across the road , so very busy. Brixton lager on tap. Overall good. A bit pricey total bill for 2. But good food, good service, you get what you pay for. I would definitely go back, and recommend. 🤠

Went in the summer, very nice food. Went today, booked,6 of us,birthday. Sadly disappointed, weren't told there was no steak,,three burgers we ordered were extremely average, all the chip options we chose were really greasy. At the end of the meal after questioning the quality they said the regular chef was off. Come on guys,if you’d told me that to start we wouldn't have eaten and returned when you were match ready, poor show tbf,you must have known. Staff were good, cleanliness drinks ect OK. Landlord, you should know better. £200 poorly spent.

Terrible visit. Went with my husband and child with the intent to have lunch. Firstly, no one knew how to make pimms and had to google it which took 5+ mins to make. It seems very cheeky to charge £9.50 for a pimms when you don’t know how to make it. We then went to sit in the garden and the entire garden stank like dog or cat poo, it was so unpleasant even my 3 year old asked to leave. I’m the general manager of a local county pub and I know you get a lot of animals but you have a duty to your customers to not make them feel so repulsed they have to finish their overpriced drinks in 8 mins and leave. Such a shame!

Not a good sign when the waitress says “I don’t know beers” when you ask for a pint. £70 later (3 people, 1 course/1 drink pp): food was cold, roast dinners were a mix of half-cooked hard vegetables, chewy cheap meats, and dry over-cooked potatoes/Yorkshires. No seasonings or flavor - had to ask twice for salt/pepper. Had to ask multiple times for ketchup (no sauces on the dry burger). Plates were cold (/room was cold). Had to ask 3x and go to the bar for a glass of water. Terrible service. Bad all round, best avoided.

We planned our Spa Valley Railway day and was told that the Junction Inn was a great local pub that offers discount for users of the railway. After arriving at the station just after 11am, we spent an hour walking around Groombridge waiting for the pub to open at 12 (as advertised on their website and on Google) However when we arrived we noted that the pub was in darkness with the windows open, around 6 people waiting outside for the place to open. When I eventually called they informed me they no longer open for lunch hours and would be open in the evening. There was no mention of this anywhere and a lot of people left disappointed! Please update your website to reflect the correct hours.

It's not often you go to a pub for lunch and find both typical pub food (pie, fish and chips etc.) but also a good choice of Malaysian food and even less often that you go, this is really good. We hadn't been to the Junction for some years but given change(s) in management and ideal mid way location for those of us meeting up we decided to "give it a go". We'd been out for a long walk in the morning and fancied a pub lunch, and came across this pub unexpectedly close to the old railway. Hence the name 'Junction Inn' I guess. The Malaysian barman and we presume his wife welcomed us warmly and took out order for 2 drinks and 2 Jacket potatoes and showed us to a table by the window. It wasn't long before our orders were placed in front of us. I had chicken and bacon with a lovely slightly lemony sauce over the contents. Alongside we had a mixture of salad. My partner had tuna and sweetcorn and jacket potato with salad. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I must admit I almost couldn't manage all mine as the helpings were very generous, but due to our walk and the deliciousness of the food, I managed it. Recently passing and stopped off for sunday lunch. Choice of traditional roasts or malaysian dishes - the speciality of the house. The roast was delicious - the best for a long time! Some days later stopped off for a snack lunch and chose malaysian - spring rolls and sweet chilli chicken pieces, shared. Delicious again. However if running a tab at the Bar, everything, yes everything has an automatic (but optional) 10% service charge added. So your pint bought at the bar at £4 ends up at £4.40. I have no objection to service on food and drink in the restaurant but not for drinks bought at the bar. I am a little embarrased downgrading service for items that I feel shouldn't be included. Unfortunately, I didn't check the bill I just paid at the bar, it wasn't until we had resumed our walk that I thought it was very expensive and think I may have been overcharged. I have emailed twice to enquire about this and have received no reply. Shame as it would be somewhere we'd go to again and recommend to others.

We had targeted the Junction Inn for lunch as part of a cycle ride. The menu was largely Asian food, which was influenced by the Managers origin. We had the daily soup which was delicious blend of chicken, mushrooms and onions in a spicy coconut / Thai curry paste. The spicy chicken nuggets were also delicious. And amazingly, very good value too.We shall definitely return.

A big thank you to Tony & Celia for making our visit so enjoyable. After a warm welcome and an aperitif, six of us sat down to a long, relaxed lunch for which Celia had “pulled out all the stops”. The food was brilliant – a medley of different Malaysian dishes, cooked to perfection and leaving us wanting more but too full to manage another bite. With a nice fire burning in the hearth and great company, it turned a miserable January day into an oasis of pleasure.

Compliments to Cecilia, the chef. The Udang Assam was delicious, cooked to perfection and hearty after a long walk. My fellow walkers were all equally impressed with their choice of meal. We were greeted with a warm welcome and efficient service. Highly recommended. Will definately return.

One of my favourite visits, has the proper feel of a village pub but with facilities for large groups and restaurant dining. Good local ale, well kept, and most acceptable wines at reasonable prices. But I’ve said this before, why another review?Well, the current managers are Celia from Malaysia and Tony from Hong Kong. The pub dining is traditional, good value and very well presented. But there is an additional string to the bow here in that if you ask a few days in advance and give Celia a budget to work to, she will create a 'surprise' of Malaysian dishes that are off menu.

Myself and my girlfriend along with her family visited this little village pub this October. The food was absolutely stunning, we all had Malaysian dishes, we all wanted more but we got so stuffed that we couldn't handle the thought of pudding! We will make sure to come back and try the pudding selection for sure and try our best not to fill up on starters. Our waitress was fantastic, she laughed and joked with us and was just genuinely such a nice person. I wanted to give her a special shout out as she made our evening! (I think Rebecca?? .. maybe?) Overall, it was just such a nice night, I hope to go back soon when I'm in that neck of the woods!

Visited with friends one evening for the first time under the new landlords. The Junction remains a friendly, unpretentious village local, but now does authentic SE Asian food which widens its appeal - particularly as the meals are of a good standard and reasonably priced. Will return.

Went as a family of 4 early evening. Had perfectly good pub food with drinks. Others around us received very warm welcome and local clearly like it. Our waitress looked very stroppy but served us well just without smiles or pleasantries.

My father discovered this gem a few weeks ago and has been two or three times since. We went today and the curries were out of this world. Two of us had beef and the other two chicken. Lovely additions such as thai crackers and roti bread and rice. Will definitely be back. So so pleased to have found this gem. Highly recommended.

We have had some really excellent meals here at this friendly local pub/ restaurant.Cecilia and Tony are a warm and hospitable couple. Cecilia has the spices, used in her fantastic cooking, flown in from Thailand in order to make really authentic dishes, and the results are superb. There are other items on the menu to suit those who would rather have traditional pub food, so all tastes are catered for. This is a well patronised local pub, and it welcomes those with well behaved dogs in the bar area. There is a really good garden area where you can even play boule, especially enjoyable in the summer months; inside there are quieter areas to eat, if you prefer.

A chance drop in one lunch time expecting a sandwich or soup - that kind of light pub- lunch kind of thing- only to find that much more tempting fare on offer. My wife, still wanting soup enquired, expecting the usual, but no, far from cream of vegetable came the most lovely Malaysian spicy clear broth, filled with glass noodles, vegetables and several large prawns. It was good, I tried it! Me, sticking to a light lunch had a salad, not any old salad but a crispy duck salad. Can highly recommend, generous and truly delicious. So impressed, we returned to have dinner a few days later. The shared starter was chicken nuggets, nothing like you might think, big chunks of breast meat, lightly battered and covered in sweet sauce. My redang beef curry excellent, not over hot but well spiced with plenty of beef and not as dry as a authentic redang which suited me as I enjoy a 'saucier' curry. My wifes choice of cod curry came with a warning that it took 30 mins to prepare - this we thought positive a) because they let us know and b) it indicated freshly cooked. It was worth a wait, wrapped and cooked in banana leaves it was tender and tasty, obviously done with a bit of care and pride. The pub is quite pubby, a bar, where we ate, a more formal restaurant, and other side areas. Comfy sofas, with locals drinking and chatting at the bar, many with dogs - it is very dog friendly, go in the restaurant if you prefer. The owners, servers, chef (all the same couple) are presumably Malaysian as per the menu; they are friendly and welcoming, and took the trouble to enquire how we liked the food, and to apologise for the cod taking 30 minutes to prepare!Notable is that although several Asian dishes on offer, good traditional pub food was also being served, so you will probably find something that suits.

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime with our Aunt for lunch. Cecilia and Tony have found a lovely setting for their warm hospitality and amazing food. We each had a curry as a main and the now famous Thai chicken nuggets as a starter. We have known Cecilia and Tony for many years and they never disappoint in service and quality of food. Curries were delivered to the table piping hot and came with roti and salad. We look forward to our next visit - can't wait.

I have cycled past here so very very often and never tried the cafe. I should have read the reviews on here first! I stopped for a latte and a cake and the guy working here I am sure does not drink coffee. He was so out of his depth with the coffee machine I ended up with just hot milk!! In the old adage “You only get one chance to make a good first impression” Sorry but this time you failed. Yelling at me when I left that I could not go down and look at the lake as I might upset the fishermen having earlier told me there were no fishermen was not worth debating either. In short if you fish here use the cafe, if you are passing…… Keep on passing.

Unwelcoming staff. We were told that we had to order food & drinks at the bar. Other tables in the restaurant had very attentive table service, so we were unsure why we were treated differently. A member of our family party had someone else’s fish dinner spilt down his back. This obviously stank & was very uncomfortable for him. The staff member disagreed that it touched his back and said it landed on the floor. This wasn’t the case, as other diners saw exactly what happened. We had to ask for an apology, which was given, although very reluctantly. We waited an extremely long time for our food, even though it wasn’t a particularly busy night. The desserts were wrong and we were told that we hadn’t ordered the ones we’d asked for. We were made to feel like we were in the wrong. Tiger Inn - you have lost some loyal customers. It has ruined our evening.

This country pub had been on our list for ages and so as it was my birthday weekend we booked for Sunday lunch. We'd checked the menu before booking so we knew the roast was pricey at £24 for the roast beef. We usually pay between £16 and £20 elsewhere. Unfortunately, when it arrived it was disappointing. There was plenty of thinly sliced beef but I found it very fatty and chewy. There were fewer vegetables than expected, half a carrot, 3 very small, very hard roast potatoes and a pile of kale. The Yorkshire pud was large but mainly soggy. The gravy was delicious. Also elements of the dish were less warm than others. The pub is lovely and had a good drinks menu but we were seated in the bar area and had to listen to staff discussing their rotas at length. Perhaps if we'd been in the main restaurant area or outside we'd have had a better experience. Maybe consider your portion sizes especially the veg. We didn't stay for desert.

Brilliant new proprietors from March 2024 with very high standards. So ignore 2023 reviews and the food and other pics are out of date. The accommodation area is not open yet as major refurb in progress. I went up for a music night in July and I am going up this week to sample the pub menu, and will certainly be booking ahead as soon as the hotel part does open, as I don’t drive, so a relaxing visit to Wadhurst for me, require a stop over. I am confident this team’s famous high standards will transform this historic building into a classy stay. The kitchen is entirely new, state of the art, and sparkling and immaculate, ( I was given a tour ) and I am looking forward to traveling to Wadhurst now they are serving food, as I know this chefs food is top notch. And with the welcoming bar team, I will feel comfortable and looked after. As a fussy woman who is used to dining alone, or taking others to dine in top establishments around the foodie cities of Brighton, Malaga and Paris, I have a high standard for hospitality and food. The new proprietors at the Greyhound are warm and welcoming and have high standards of hygiene and hospitality, I know this from their other ventures, I can’t wait to eventually stay over and enjoy the village of Wadhurst when the hotel part opens. Until then I am taking the bus up from Brighton this week to sample the new pub menu, as I know the chef is first class, and with such a good hospitality team I can confidently invite a party of people knowing they will be happy and looked after. On the new menu I will report my findings in detail!
