Really friendly welcome. Had 3 courses for £14. 99 on Saturday evening. Garlic bread to start, plaice, chips and salad for main and sponge and custard for pudding. Lovely home cooked, food and good portions. Yes the decor is slightly dated, but for us that adds to the experience, it's like going home. We will be back. Thank you so much x

From the outside, it doesn't look like a cafe/restaurant - it's very unappealing. However, the price list enticed us in. A friendly, homely lady welcomed us. The decor really needs a facelift - it's very dated and basic, but clean. The food was OK, although cooked to suit older people (over-cooked, I suspect, to cope with people who wear dentures??) and was all rather 1950s.

We stopped off for lunch on our return from Cromer. I decided to go for one of the specials, which was homemade cottage pie . This was excellent, served with roast spuds and plenty of veg and with plenty of gravy. It was piping hot, too. My wife chose the scampi, which there was plenty. The lady serving was friendly and very helpful.

Appeared to be a family run business. The food was good if unexceptional. It was a bit of a misstep to semi-drown a decent cottage pie in gravy but it was a robust meal. Places like this deserve a steady footfall in these hard times and their prices were reasonable.

There are not many places that if you visit a town that you can get real home made food ,not microwave or frozen reheated food but real food. Today we had the pleasure of visiting SHERINGHAM,there we found this wonderful restaurant, when entering we were greeted by friendly staff who took our order, they advised us we would have a bot of a wait due to all food being cooked fresh. We waited 1/2 hour before our food arrived, they say you eat at first with your eyes before your taste buds kick in,this was certainly the case here. Wonderful what else can I say.

This place is in need of a makeover. It's very reminiscent of Fawty Towers. Still using an urn to boil the water!? This resulted in bad tasting tea. Stopped by for some lunch, sadly this was the only place to offer a place for 8 people. We only needed a quick bite for lunch but very disappointed with what we got for the cost. Over £6 for ham and cheese toastie but then was awful processed stuff. The cheese was the cheap square packet type. One of the toasties used the end slice of the loaf, shame also it was just a basic supermarket bread. I reckon I could’ve made the sandwich at home for less than £1. Totally overpriced and the dried salad didn’t help boost the value. I would’ve expected some crisps and maybe some dressing for £6. Another person had a cheese and pickle sandwich and had to go looking for the pickle. The soup for one individual was £6 again and came from a Heinz tin. Just a very very cheap set of ingredient trying to be passed off for a premium lunch. Four of us for lunch and probably the worst £35 I’ve spent in a long time. Don’t like leaving bad reviews but I would like to warn others in advance.

Very handy location for the Sherringham end of the North Norfolk Railway. We were tempted in by the promise of toasted sandwiches. We were misled. Passed this place many times and finally went inside for Sunday lunch. The place is very dated with Artex everywhere. We were shown to a table and given the menu to have a look at. We both choose the roast beef lunch and hot drinks. Drinks arrived promptly. The food arrived and there wasn’t that much of it on a large oval plate. Tasted very bland with lots of seasoning required. Not the best Sunday lunch we have had.

Went here whilst in Sheringham on holiday. Didn't have to book for evening meal, but it was fairly busy. We dined for under £50 for 4 of us with 2 of us having the evening special (3 courses). So if you're looking for traditional british cuisine, cooked to order and you dont want to pay the Earth, then this is worth a try. Food was made to order with real chips! I found it to be very clean, with excellent customer service from the waitress. True it's not got the option of ordering by app and you get a hand written bill at the end. (That takes me back!) So if you're in Sheringham give it a go.

Went back to Sheringham for the 40's weekend and decided to have lunch in The Jolly Tar. It was absolutely packed. The waitresses looked lovely dressed as Land Girls. The only thing that spoilt my visit was the rudeness and offensive comments of some of the other customers. When a restaurant is full to breaking point you expect to have a wait for your meal - especially when your orders are cooked from fresh and there is a large selection to pick from on the menu. How quickly could these rude people cook over 60 plus meals? When you have worked in the catering business (as I have) you know how difficult it is to keep the hot meals flowing. I take my hat off to the staff that worked so hard there today and kept smiling although they must have felt like answering back. Well done to all The Jolly Tar Staff. My 45 minute wait for my hot meal was well worth the wait......and to the rude people that expected a meal served to them in 5 minutes of being seated......TRY MCDONALD'S.

Sadly the food didn’t match the lovely welcoming service. Sunday lunch was expensive - £20 for a trio of roasts. The veg was odd - leeks and carrot with some very hard brocolli. Overcooked roast potatoes and parsnips. Potential to be a nice Sunday lunch but needs a fair bit of work. £20 is a lot for a toast but this place really cannot justify the price, sorry 😔

Over priced! £11.95 for toasted sandwich that came with small side salad, small pot shop bought coleslaw and handful chips. Had bacon and brie filling with so much cranberry it tasted more like jam sandwich. With a coffee each bill came to £33. Most costly lunch I've had for ages. Won't be rushing back.
