If you are looking for a proper English pub the way pubs used to be you've just food it. We turned up without a reservation but where soon accommodated. Having already looked on another review site we had a good idea of what to expect but trust me when I say you won't be disappointed. Outstanding. Great pub food with great service. The sort of pub when the regulars have there usual. Can clearly tell many of the customers have been going for years!!

Went here twice during a recent stay at nearby Bacton. Restaurant area is at the back of the pub so away from the noise and hubub of the bar (weather not good enough to sit in the beer garden which looked nice). Food is what I would describe as traditional English pub grub which suited us as we had my elderly mother-in-law with in tow who is strictly 'meat and 2 veg' Food appeared and tasted freshly cooked and the portions were generous so no one went home hungry (burgers were impressively large!). Food taste and quality was very good and everyone in our party of 4 enjoyed their meals to the extent that we revisited 2 evenings later for another go. Wait to see the specials board before ordering. Meals were reasonably priced though I thought the bottled wine was a bit on the high side (balances out I guess). Plenty of car parking, pleasant location and easy to get to. Staff friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend a visit if in the locality.

We found this pub by accident and are so pleased we did. On our first visit it was a hot day so we sat in the garden where there is plenty of seating and a large covered area. We decided to go for lunch another day and it was one of the best pub lunches we have had. My partner had the steak and kidney pudding and I had the mince and onion pie. Both meals came with mash potatoes and plenty of fresh vegetables with tasty gravy. The staff were friendly and helpful and the pub itself very clean and welcoming. Will certainly be going back again and would recommend.

Myself and some family members along with our associates visited this fine establishment recently to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of one of our party. Upon arrival what strikes you first is the decor, which is a throwback to better times, and true British values ! Cousin in particular was lost for words. The menu itself is a “best of British” with staples such as gammon and egg, steak pie, steak, lamb shank and in a touch to our European neighbours - lasagna. Many of our party went for the quintessentially British steak and it was a truly memorable meal. The staff were excellent and most accommodating of our groot cosplaying groom and I think it’s suffice to say that it is a night that all shall remember for years to come ! A special shout out too to the locals who were great sport and even invited us back with them to carry on the festivities.

We stayed over the road from this pub and went two nights in a row before we came home. This is a lovely local pub with a great atmosphere. We were made to feel welcome and the food, drink and service was excellent. Between us we had the steak pie, burger, lamb shank, scampi (specials) and salmon - all were delicious. Every meal we had was very good and the servings were large. The puddings were incredible and we were able to take the dog in the bar. The cost was very reasonable as well, between £110 - £120 each night which included 5 mains, pudding for one and two (second night) and a number of alcoholic drinks. If we had stayed another night we would have gone back again. If you are staying in the area this is a must.

4 adults meals, kiddies meal, 5 puddings, 4 soft drinks £103.00. Wonderful wonderful welcome. Very much a locals place but could not have been made to feel any more appreciated. Small menu. Basic pub grub style. Not a fat lot for vegetarian options...scampi that sort of thing. Also not sure it really catered for gluten intolerant customers. Burgers - okay. Came with lovely bap, nice trimmings and large portion of chips and tiny coleslaw. My daughter had chicken and I had beef. Both not massive lovers of the meat but everything else was really good Fella had handmade steak pie which he had with chips and peas but he could have had mash if preferred. He said it was delicious. Son had jacket potato with chilli. Came with great sized potato. Nice portion of chilli and lovely looking salad and tiny coleslaw. He absolutely loved it. My youngest had kiddies chicken nuggets, chips and baked beans and possibly the biggest kids portion I have ever seen. So overall pleased with the plates of food. Pudding we had 2 choc fudge cakes, lemon meringue and 2 apple and caramel pies. The chocolate fudge cake slices came with either cream or ice-cream and both boys devoured. Portions for this were huge and I highly recommend. Lemon meringue was good and again cream or ice-cream. Apple and caramel pie was with cream or ice-cream. Small slice but rather rich so not a problem. Don't expect and top crust as it doesn't have one and caramel was runny (not a bad comment just stating how it came). Wasn't my cup of tea but I probably just didn't make the best choice for me. Didn't wait long for food even though they were short staffed. Table booked for 1pm. Not busy so atmos not vibrant. That said there was local banter. Very clean...no airs and graces. I would go back. Price wise. Okay.

Traditional family friendly restaurant serving fish and chips....or so it states in the overview. If you're expecting the restaurant part to include metal cutlery and china plates, forget it. Thin wooden forks and knives, average tasting fish and chips served in a takeaway tray, tea served as hot water in a cup with a teabag to put in yourself, and wheelie bins in the seating area for the rubbish after eating. Not what we would class as a restaurant. After all the build up about these fish and chips, sadly a big disappointment. Not worth travelling 22 miles for.

Good honest food at a fair price. Not the most glamorous of decor but quality out ways it. Very quiet and on the door states cash only which could be of putting so owner needs to remove as they do have a card reader. Owner needs to address!

A really interesting low circular building overlooking a wetland habitat, owned and run by the Holkam Estate. There's a large covered but open area with tables and chairs and a smaller enclosed café serving good filter coffee and a range of prepared on site light bites sandwiches, pasties and cakes. Not cheap but good quality. The rush and reed drinking water fountain in the middle is a functional masterpiece. The information boards are very helpful outlining what can be seen and why. The big carpark is a couple of minutes away and the beach is perhaps 10 minutes off.
