Years , live in southsea and sometimes I don't I have good pubs around, the John jaques that is call a people pub.

It's a whetherspoons, you get what you get!

Customer service was extremely bad and they were very rude to us may be because we are Asians and one staff with specs were wandering over there and make us uncomfortable we couldn’t even finish our food . I was so pissed of with the customer service not gonna be there anymore . Was unhappy and desperate .

Good food very reasonable prices

A baby faced manager (Joe) decided to shut the pub / call time 20 minutes early 1/7/23 for no good reason. No trouble of any kind, just regulars who would of gone home on time! Disgusting behaviour and on a massive power trip. Before anyone wants to argue or comment it was the most non threatening environment you could imagine. A rabbit of a so called manager caught in the headlights or he just wanted to go home early. Pathetic excuse. DO NOT TRUST THE ADVERTISED CLOSING TIMES - THIS PUB SHUTS WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT !

As most of British pubs,.. Sticky dirty tables and floors, no service at all. You have to order through the app or by the counter. Only good thing is that is cheaper than others.

Good burger .... avoid the beef curry at all costs though.

Great atmosphere. Typical weatherspoons but it was pleasant on a hot day and holy moly I forgot how cheap it was. Definitely good for saving pennies and having fun.

Eggs Benedict on black pudding is delicious!

Generally ok, price wise its good, food can be good, occasionally below par.

I usually don't rate Wetherspoons steaks, but the steak at John Jacques was great. Had an excellent birthday meal and quite a few drinks. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. I definitely recommend this pub.

it’s alright just got them screechy birds in there all the time and they keep the sauces out overnight for weeks until they’re empty even tho the bottle clearly says in capitals REFRIGERATE AFTER OPENING probs keeping the burgers cold annat in the ice box to save a bit of dosh

A good place to stop for a bite to eat and a pint when changing trains. I see a lot of negative comments here about the food but I have never had a bad experience. I always get a wrap or wings and they have never let me down. The service is always good and the staff polite and friendly.

Had a lovely breakfast there today, with a group of friends.

The food was good and plenty of space friendly staff and a good atmosphere.

Plenty of positives here - efficient + polite service, good range of options on the menu, reasonable prices. Not overly busy for a Friday night (12/04). A couple of minor suggestions: a) portion sizes - wouldn't hurt to have a few more chips on the plate, b) perhaps consider background music - would enhance the overall experience.

A bit loud, Hot food only warm. But tasty.

Quick service every time I've been in, clean and tidy, big space with lots of seating and lovely staff. Can't complain

I do like their chicken wings here… they are kind of the best in Portsmouth. BUT…. the service was really unbearable…. Ordered 3 portions of chicken wings with sauces to take away… found there were no sauces in it… went back down to the pub and was told they didn’t give sauce as THEY HAVE NO TUBS for sauces and that’s why they didn’t give sauce…. Does it make sense? I admire his braveness to even saying that. they should be awarded the nationwide best customer service award Finally the manager reluctantly gave me some sauces when I went back there with my own tub…. Excellent Job as one of the biggest chains in the UK.

Definitely one of the worst wetherspoons I have been too, needs a good refurb! Food was nice enough though

Spoons innit. Cheap, perhaps not cheerful, but there's worse places to drink until you can stomach the food.

3 times I sent onion bahjis back as stone cold...use probes to check temp for gods sake that is the correct procedure. Shouldn't be sending back all the time ,plus the reason given was oh but we understaffed...that is the worst reason ever.. I'm a chef of 30+ years and am disgusted by this.

Breakfast not the best we've had there.food can be a bit hit and miss.like all Wetherspoons.

Came here with my partner after a long train journey home. Some kind of argument was going on between a guy and the staff over intoxication. It was a Friday night with no door staff, I saw a staff member(managar) lock the front doors and walk off. He went to the staff area to collect our food, he brought our food to us. I then asked CHRIS, why did he lock the doors? He replied because I'm the manager. I replied, I'm only asking as there are emergency exit signs above the door. I was met with the response of I'm going to be around that Area. It felt as though he was not prepared for someone to realise what was happening and rather than continuing to walk around the pub like he was, then stayed by the doors because he was caught out. It made my partner feel like there was nor a quick root out which made the experience less than satisfying.

Food was cooked thoroughly,and arrived nice n hot but my bowl of chips were Luke warm😦?. I was on a first date(again) so didn't want to make a fuss,but overall,good value for money,although a little rowdy with a lot of cackling old ladies sat in the corner🤣

Pompey playing at home so JJ was rammed. However, our veggie sausage and mash arrived, piping hot, within 10 minutes

More a drinkers pub with a high level of noise from them. Not that pleasant as we had to shout to hear each other. Food was good and service quick and efficient but I think we'll give it a miss next time.

Very skanky pub so sometiems puts u off being in their , the cleaners don’t even clean properly I see them hoover up and they miss all the food who knows how long the food has been on the floor for lol and also physical shouting from a female cleaner their . , And then boys thinking u fancy them lol without flirting with them okay

Quick and easy to order. Drinks delicious. Plenty of choice. Staff very friendly. Pepperoni hot of death of doom, but tasty. Chairs hold up no matter what the weight. Highly recommended.

I am absolutely appalled by the experience I’ve just had here. I took my mum here for breakfast. Breakfast came out and my scrambled eggs were literally fluorescent orange. No joke, they were actually neon. I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve worked as a chef in various restaurants over the years, plus my dad owns a chicken farm in Spain 🤣🤣 even the freshest of eggs do not come out that colour 🤣🤣 a couple of people around us even came to have a look because it was just so odd!! Someone even said to me they looked radioactive-which they did!! Anyway, I ended up asking the staff if they had put food colouring or something in it, that’s how strange it was! Eventually the manager came out and told me “that’s just the colour of the eggs” at this point I realised we really weren’t getting anywhere so I just accepted it and went and sat down. I was just going to leave the crazy looking eggs and be on my way 🤣 But then my mother went up to the toilet and heard all of the staff congregated in the kitchen laughing at us, ripping the absolute piss out of the both of us. So much for customer service eh! So at that point I thought, no, that’s not on, I’m going to now ask for my money back. Anyway the manager came out, she admitted they were all talking about us, she couldn’t not, she was caught completely red handed. I said that it was really not ok, and I would now like a refund for the whole experience. The manager tried to argue with me and the situation just ended up growing arms and legs. suddenly this young girl named Sam decided to jump in with a serious attitude, and starts to try and educate me on how eggs are made 🤣🤣🤣 I politely asked her to refrain from getting involved (too many cooks and all that excuse the pun!) to which she replied that we were rude and vile and off she went. From that moment on the manager made us wait 20 minutes for a refund, all the while Sam was eyeballing me like she wanted a fight. I ended up saying to the manager “listen this really isn’t ok, you need to reign your staff member in, I can’t believe you are allowing this” to which her response was “I will….later. But it works both ways, we’ve tried to tell you that the eggs are just that colour and you’ve argued with us and so now of course my staff are upset” I’m sorry…WHAT?! By the end of it all I was seriously lost for words. Eventually a guy called Cameron came out and was instructed to discount the eggs from our meal 🤣🤣 I was like…erm no. I then explained what happened and he was clearly very embarrassed. He immediately apologised for the girls and refunded us the whole thing. He also told us to put in a complaint if we wanted to. I’m so flabbergasted by the whole situation, needless to say, we shan’t be back!!!

I was going to Asda for whatever reason, so I decided to pop in here for a nice pint of real ale and a small bite to eat!!! Omg not again. I love Spoons for their real ale and cost effective food. I tried a pint of there guest ale and noticed it was a bit cloudy, however I managed to drink it but wasn’t nice, so then I thought I’d have a cider as you can’t really go wrong with that. I was right, that was fine. I ordered a burger only meal and also ordered a different real ale. Why oh why didn’t I just go after the first beer!! The beer was more cloudy and I couldn’t drink it as after the first sip it tasted disgusting. The burger was just okay. Can’t wait to get back to the Denmead Queen and Red lion! I know I should have complained but didn’t as I didn’t want the local’s ganging up on me and the pint only cost £2.34, so clearly not my sort of pub. Don’t go there if you want to impress your friends or your other half… strange people and didn’t like the staff calling me “Mate” oh well I’ve put it down to experience!!!!!

Always a lovely pub to visit, have not eaten there as of yet but have been on multiple occasions for a drink or to meet some people. Very easily located and close to the train station. Staff were happy (even though I was there at opening time ) lovely surprise with the atmosphere as apposed to what I’ve experienced in some of the surrounding pubs in the area. Will be going back without a doubt.

Food was over cooked and spent most of our time fly squatting and came away with bites on our arms and feet safe to say we won't be returning any time soon

Food is not properly cooked . But manager is very good he accepted their mistake and refunded it.

This is a standard Wetherspoons pub. Cheap and cheerful. You can order at the bar or on an app. They serve all of the usual food and drinks that you’ll find on any Wetherspoons menu. It was quite quiet when I went, which was nice as it meant I could chat with everyone on my table, without a noisy atmosphere. It would be good if Wetherspoons, as a brand, could offer more non-alcoholic alternatives on their menu, but I’m aware this isn’t the individual location’s fault.

A busy Weatherspoons particularly on a Fratton Park match day. Always a good selection of Ale and Larger, quickly brought to your table upon ordering on the App.

Great meeting place ,with great prices

Just went for Standard Wetherspoon's breakfast prior to visiting English Heritage Sites with my granddaughter. The breakfast actually set us up for the day ahead.

The breakfast is one of the best weather spoons breakfast I've had for a very long time 👍🏻

A busy branch of Wetherspoons with a decent selection of ales, but I do love their endless cups of coffee deal. Their craft ales are excellent as is the price per pint (£2.34 in Aug 2023).

The mixed grill that I ordered could have been fried a little longer, depends on how you like your meat. Other than that great place.

Empty at 9.15am on a week day. Breakfast was what you would normally receive from a spoons

It's not my favourite spoons in the area. I had a pint of Shipyard, which was quite good. Very few folks in here, making the atmosphere seem rather sombre.

I only went in for a drink and didn't feel intimidated being on my own

Just popped in for a quick pint of Green King IPA which was nice.

A group of us went for drinks for a retirement garthing, the drinks were brought to the table as there was a lot of us, nice relaxed atmosphere, lovely staff, very helpful, my first time there, would go again.

Bloody freezing, air-conditioning set to 15°. Staff don't seem to care about the fact the customers are cold. It's not exactly hot outside at the moment.

The sparkling wine was really good (Wolf Blass) and a bargain at just over £13 per bottle. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere

Well run pub. Excellent pint of Abbott. Must be an experienced guy running the cellar. I took advantage of the deal on bells as well. Will be back in a week or so on my next trip to pompey.

was surprised how run down and dirty it is. the flooring by the coffee machine is disgusting and the disabled toilet shocking. desperately needs a deep clean and redecorating through out not a good advert for wetherspoons

Manager was welcoming and seemed to be dashing about, most staff seemed somewhat engaged and pleasant enough. The place lacks and kind of character though probably has quite a few characters. If there's any money left for refurbishments, this place is crying out for a refit.

Classic Spoons. Food is a good price, plentiful, and served quickly. Even when busy. Lots of tables, without being cluttered.

Friendly service and good real ale

This is my local spoons, and it's just usual spoons. Good people behind bar , my only gripe is the addition of more tall tables ; your all sitting on top of each other ! Need more space between tables!

Cheap n cheerful, if your sailing to Spain as we were, there's an Asda, Savers and Wetherspoons all together, a stones throw from the port, great for getting those last essentials you can't buy in Spain, or are way too expensive lol Cheap fuel from Asda for the car, before getting on board!!!! All good, from an old Scottish tight git!!!!

Had been a few times but yesterday and was very disappointed the staff wasn't helpful we had a large breakfast and a small 1 the size has gone down hill both was cold breakfast used to come with the teas not anymore they have made them smaller now but the price doesn't change the tables was dirty no sooner had we sat down and it was on the table, when we went the last time they had the painters in painting the cellings , so what does that say about the pub, I can tell you we won't be going to any weatherspoons anymore

Most of the food was not on the menu, ordered sausage and mash for grandchildren, meal warm, sausages in congealed gravy, mash hard. Ordered gammon, but only to be told not available after paying, offered steak, but just came with mash(offered ice cream for the children as they had not got what they ordered, but didnt take up the offer, they were still hungry). Ordered puddings, expected to eat apple crumble and custard with a fork! No clean spoons!! Spoon eventually arrived, asked to speak to manager to advise how disappointed we were with everything, advised talking to manager who said they had been busy. Didn't seem too bothered, obviously too busy to listen!!!

Beautiful building shame that the management are not, gent toilets out of order so the one disabled toilet which is used by both sex’s but can be congested, and was for quite a while,surely when the ladies facilities are vacant and you ask to use them and the bar is not busy management should make a concession but no. I was told that on no account I would be permitted to use the ladies loo even if the manager marshalled the door. This pub has a responsibility to supply access to a toilet for its customers. It is unacceptable for a pub of this size to trade without having sufficient facilities. Fix the plumbing or close.
