The Ivy in the Lanes in Brighton and Hove

Superb decor, excellent food, pleasant and helpful staff, plus spotless toilets. It's expensive, but worth pushing the boat out once in a while.

What a fab place food was ace and service was great Aryan was out waiter and he was a genuinely lovely chap , very attentive, friendly and professional , an asset to the restaurant .

Was welcomed really well and taken straight to our table. The afternoon tea was delivered really quickly with a nice smile and a polite waiter. He said he would come bacck and check on us, regularly and if we wanted more then just let him know. Well we didn't see our waiter again until we had almost finished so didn't get to ask for more even if we wanted it. There was plenty of food but not a great filling choic and to much sauce with the salmon and chicken bit hardly any in the egg sandwich. The tea was very weak when bought out.

We had a great dinner at the ivy. The ambiance inside the restaurant is very beautiful and unique. A great place to have dinner! The burger, however, was a little bit too dry due to the bun and the meat. The chips and the coctails were great tho!

The service we received was rather appalling. When cutlery was laid down after our order, it was sort of ‘ placed roughly’ very nosy. I was having a conversation with my husband, and all I could hear were the clicking of the forks and knives’. Order was taken very abruptly, food was placed on table without even a turn of head to check if ‘is there anything else I could get you’. This is not the sort of service you expect from a good restaurant. Food came rather quickly which was good. My fillet steak came perfectly to my satisfaction. My husband had the ‘ivy burger’ which was good too. It is a shame that a perfectly planned lunch appointment was ruined by just this one server. May I suggest she goes back to training, if that is not possible, she could go to the back so as not to annoy customers. She is obviously not too happy to work or to serve customers. She has this ‘sour’ looking face. For the price we pay for lunch, I really expected better service. At least, with a smile.

Having been to the Ivy in Cobham, Guildford & Chelsea, this Ivy serves by far the best food. Every dish was really well presented, fresh & tasty. Asian Crab salad was beautifully presented & delicious. The Ivy Classic Crispy Duck Salad was a generous portion, also well presented and flavoursome. In contrast the Ivy Classic Shepherd’s Pie was on the small size - cooked as an individual dish but turned out on to the plate. Cod Goujons were absolutely excellent - crispy on the outside but soft cod on the inside - & served with really great, crispy chips on the side. The Tartar sauce was only ok. Raspberry & Pistachio coupé was large, colourful and everything it should be. The white house wine from Portugal was unusual, with a slight taste of honey, & really excellent - & good value too. Service throughout was friendly and efficient. All in all a very pleasant experience.

The entire experience from the moment we arrived to the moment we left was fabulous. All the staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and couldn’t do enough for you. The food was outstanding, one of the best roast lamb I’ve ever had, the gravy was on another level! The venue itself is very tastefully decorated with a great bar in the middle of the restaurant. Couldn’t think of a better way to spend Easter Sunday lunch in such a relaxing way.

We waited a very long time for service as you were extremely busy The cake stands would have been better floor standing as left no room on the table The 3 pathetic offering of savouries was awful with no filling at all in my lone egg ?dry finger sandwich with very little in the brioche bun and other They were offered on a black plastic platter not appealing in the slightest and not dainty as expected The cake offering was poor and scones so small they were dry better, to have served two larger and the cream and jam was insufficient for them anyway Cakes are usually offered to taken home but the only two could be taken as they were not made in disposable cases All very poor and the impression left was that profit was definitely the agenda as quality did not reflect the price and the reputation of The Ivy will not be sustainable if this is your best offering We had to ask for tea nearing the end of our Visit Grande hotel in Brighton They nail it!

We were given a voucher for The Ivy at Christmas and used it today to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was delicious, the service exemplary and the ambience charming. They gave us a delightful complementary dessert and coffee so our voucher covered everything. That was very generous and much appreciated. We will be back.

I visited the The Ivy for an early evening meal ahead of an event at The Dome. We chose The Ivy as we both wanted to visit for a while. I have a few food intolerances but I had looked at the menu before we booked and thought that it would be fine as if all else fails there was steak on the menu which is my usual go to. When we arrived I explained I was unable to eat garlic or onion - I was advised that the steaks were pre marinated in garlic so I would not be able to have this....in fact there were only 2 things on the menu that were available to me. After further probing of the waiter I was disappointed to hear that all the meals are sent in prepared rather than cooked fresh on the premises - such a shame as the atmosphere and venue were amazing but I won't be back. The price tag for food not cooked from fresh on the premises is not great. Such a shame but I guess this is how big companies are operating.

Terrible service. After waiting 20 minutes to order drinks, we eventually ordered food with 5 people's starters arriving after 20 minutes and the other 3 arriving 30 minutes later. 1 hrs 20 in we still didn't have our main courses and when we asked the waiter for an update his reply was "there's only one of us in blue so I think we're doing a good enough job, don't you" - or words to that effect. We asked for the bill and left.

Evening meal on Sunday after the Brighton marathon, a charming place located in the popular Lanes area with friendly welcoming staff, a nice relaxed ambience serving well prepared and good tasty food. Our waiter Louis' affable service I feel was exemplary. Would have no hesitation in returning and would recommend to others.

We visited the Ivy in Brighton a few days back and honestly, we couldn’t find a single bad thing to mention. From the friendly and professional staff, to the delicious food, we enjoyed our experience from end to finish. I believe our server’s name was Adam and he couldn’t have done a better job! His attentive and professional skills are beyond exceptional! Thank you for an amazing experience to the whole team! Would definitely recommend and will for sure come back again!!

Having visited before we were looking forward to our meal at The Ivy, Brighton. My husband’s French Onion Soup was cold. Whilst I ate my starter he had to wait and when his soup finally arrived, although piping hot, like he had had to sit and watch me eat, I then had to do the same. When our main courses finally arrived, both were cool, not hot. Our food was taken away and although we were told new plates just happened to be available, my husband received the same food ( he was able to see where he had tried his fist plate) only cold. Mine came back, obviously having been put into a microwave as steam was riding from the top, and certainly not a fresh plate. This is not the quality of food we expected. At this point we were so disappointed that we just asked for the bill and left, hungry. We were expected to have a meal together. Not staggered and certainly not cold.

Its a chain, but it works and a nice place to eat and drink.

I visited the Ivy in the lanes a couple of weeks ago, I had a great time and food was great but this one gentleman wearing a green button up jacket knocked into me, I stopped in shock and asked for an apology but he said I shouldn’t have got in his way, I willl NOT be returning, how are staff allowed to treat customers this way?! I asked for his name and he said it was Noah but I couldn’t quite hear it with the loud music, he then blatantly ignored my table for the rest of the meal. Not happy.

Went here for an afternoon tea, it's been the first afternoon tea experience for my mum and grandma and we absolutely loved it! Food was delicious, fresh and perfectly served. Location is beautiful. Will definitely recommend and come again.

Food was amazing, service not as good which is disappointing. Felt like we were being rushed the whole time, and they seated all customers very close together that you're touching the people either side of you even though most of the restaurant was empty when we went

The set menu it’s what we went for the bang bang starter and prawns was ok, my wife wanted the duck but it had jasmine rice with it, she’s allergic to jasmine and they seemed to offer no other option so she had to go for the chicken and mash and me the prawn linguine very mediocre, we had the choc sundae and don’t order the Brie bicky with celery and watercress, it was rubbish! Just remember the interior is fab!

Took my mum for a treat as we'd never been to The Ivy and always heard rave reviews. Never been so disappointed. I will start by saying that it's not usual for me to leave such a negative review, however I will say after reluctantly having to tell a member of staff about the service we received, she was lovely and very apologetic about the whole thing. But for anyone looking for a special afternoon tea occasion, I would look elsewhere... The restaurant was empty which we thought would be nice, during our 90 minutes there, there was a maximum of 4 tables of guests. Asked about a voucher I had, the staff member said they would check but never returned. We were bought our afternoon tea and told we could ask for extras. 45 minutes into having the afternoon tea, not a single member of staff had asked how we were, did we need anything etc. Unfortunately got to the point we had to go and find a member of staff to ask for extra cream and a tea refill. I'd also point out the tea is served in a metal pot that is so hot you have to use the cloth napkin to be able to pick it up to pour your tea, and the tea is in a filter bag poking out of the side of the pot. Sounds silly but just not what I would expect from a place with such a good reputation. We were there for 90 minutes, at the end when we finished, there were no other tables and no members of staff to be seen. For such an empty restaurant I've never had such an unattentive service. Food itself was nice, not the best but certainly not bad. Mostly just the service that was lacklustre.

This restaurant is amazing! Me and my boyfriend went here for his birthday meal and we loved it. The food was delicious and the service was the best I have seen in years! I couldn’t recommend this place more. The decor of the building is incredible. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the staff were lovely. We look forward to going again soon.

Had a wonderful experience at this Ivy restaurant. The food was delicious (lobster linguine) & as it was our anniversary, we were surprised with a gorgeous chocolate dessert. We had wonderful cocktails & the service was second to none. A special thank you to Louis who was very attentive in a non intrusive way. We will be back. The Ivy Market Grill in London’s Covent Garden could learn a few things from this restaurant!

Huge advocate for the ivy and have been to many. The Lanes is the closest and most convenient for me. Have had some great experiences here, however today wasn’t as enjoyable. We were welcomed by the team at the desk, greeted by our server - she seemed lovely at first, placed our food order, my partner swiftly changed his mind about 30 seconds after seeing the fish and chips which looked Devine! We called our waitress over to ask if this was possible, she let of the biggest “ughhhh” and rolled her eyes, and headed back to the till. Myself and my partner looked at each-other in utter shock that she reacted that way. I work in hospitality, and get that guests can be annoying sometimes, but Jesus keep it to yourself and vent to your colleague, not Infront of us!! I told my partner not to make a scene, and let it go. Food was nice, menu could do with updating though…been the same for years.

Went for dinner on Valentines Day with my partner. It was crazy busy but the food was still delicious, and the service impeccable. Our lovely waitress Raquel was super busy, but still attentive and helpful. Had a lovely evening. Thank you! And the ladies bathroom is beautiful (as with all Ivy restaurants)

We went along on a Saturday night, having pre-booked. We all really enjoyed the food. The staff are very friendly and try their hardest to deliver, and they did.

A lovely restaurant, beautifully decorated, the food is lovely, however from the moment you set foot inside you feel as though the staff want you in and out as soon as possible. Our food came out before our drinks, was enjoying our after dinner teas and coffee and was asked politely to vacate the table. If you want to go to a restaurant and experience good food, excellent service and not feel rushed to eat and drink… go to Cotes in Brighton. Amazing place.

We've never had a bad meal here. The 1917 makes it very affordable but we always like the option to try a special instead. All the staff are always fantastic and friendly. In particular today, for our Valentine's Day treat, we were taken care of by Christian on the bar who was make to most spectacular cocktails. And by Luis, our server, couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. Also, the lady on the coffee station had a lovely cheekiness that instantly made you smile. Well done for bringing such warmth and class with quality to match.

Booked a table for tonight about 3 weeks ago. Only had outside seats available. Explained on the phone that if an inside becomes available please could we take it as we have a disabled person with us. Not sure if there have been any cancellations in the past 3 weeks but will be asking if there has. Anyway, called again to explain about the disability and if a table inside does become available please could we have it. Her response just now was: “dress according to the weather.” So upset with this.

Had an amazing meal. The food was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The restaurant itself is elegant, spotless, and has a refined yet welcoming atmosphere. The attention to detail in both the dishes and the ambiance made for a truly memorable experience. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates great food in a classy setting!

Afternoon tea for 2 was pretty expensive. A glass of fizzy wine each, 4 sandwich quarters, 3 or 4 small pastries and a pot of tea was over £95 when the unexpected service charge was added (£85 + service). Let the customer choose to leave a tip, don’t already have it added and leave to be embarrassed into paying it. I’d rather give my server the tip personally than pay it to the venue so they can take a cut first.

Sunday late morning brunch was had at the very busy Ivy in the Lanes.. impeccable service throughout in beautiful surroundings with delicious food. Always visit when in the area.

Spectacular place in the heart of Brighton. It has stunning decor. Staff is super friendly. Food is great, I can only speak about what I had which was a non alcohol drink (very nice), olives, chips with truffle and arancini with truffle. It was luxurious and delicious and most importantly they were not shy with the truffle sauce and seasoning. Wonderful time, lovely food. Highly recommended!

Very good restaurant in Brighton. I went in other Ivy Brasserie around Englan and I think that this one is the best within the other in Bristol. The food is good and the waiters are very professional.

Once again, it was a fabulous experience. From when we first walk in such a cheery, beaming smile welcome from Jade. Jamie, our server could not have been better, attentive but not overbearing. Jemima, the runner, was just lovely, and Lysi was an excellent guide through the menu. Then, to cap it all on leaving, Jade was very busy in reception but didn't stop smiling and offering a very warm welcome, even to people who could have been less rude to her! If you haven't been here it's well worth a visit, but just remember it's a sharing concept on the food, and you don't order your own, just discuss with the table what everyone would like.

We went for breakfast. Service and staff were perfect. I had the smoked salmon and scrambled egg. I was so disappointed, it was more like omelette. The scrambled egg had no seasoning or cream added to it. Very meh unfortunately.

I’m always impressed by the incredible staff at the ivy. On our latest visit, Flora made sure our table felt like the most important one in the room. She knew exactly when to check in and offered fantastic recommendations that we ended up loving. Also, Shout out to Yule who greeted us at the front desk, super friendly and helpful, really made our night.

However, unfortunately, we both experienced significant stomach upsets shortly after choosing the steak. 🥩😔 While I cannot definitively prove the cause, I feel there’s a strong likelihood that something might have been off with the dish. It’s disappointing, as the quality of service and other aspects of the experience were exceptional. I hope this was an isolated incident, as I would love to recommend this place wholeheartedly. 🤞 It might be worth reviewing food safety measures, particularly for dishes like steak, to ensure every customer leaves with only positive memories.

We popped in for a drink. Staff were super polite and friendly. Drinks were local beers which was nice. Cocktails were really nice. I personally didn’t think that they were that strong but could have been the xmas period. Price …. Yeah be ready

This is a place I went to have afternoon tea after receiving a recommendation from my guide while traveling near London. The two of us had one cream tea and added tea to it. The scones were delicious and the cream on top was so delicious. Be bold and add a lot of milk from the beginning. That way it's delicious. The atmosphere was very pretty and nice.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this Ivy location. Having visited other branches in the chain, I expected the same level of quality and service, but this was by far the worst. The service was shockingly poor, with staff displaying a rude and dismissive attitude throughout our visit. It was impossible to ignore an underlying sense of bias in the way we were treated compared to others, which left a very sour impression. Dining out should feel welcoming and enjoyable, but this experience was anything but. I cannot recommend this location and hope the management addresses these serious issues.

Lovely Boxing Day lunch with family, great food and service as usual

Went here on Boxing Day. The atmosphere and decor are lovely. Service loses points because we had to wait 30 mins for a table that we had booked, but apart from that, staff were friendly and attentive. Drinks taste good but not many fresh ingredients used… a lot of them are pre made and just poured into a pretty glass… Steak was quite fatty and chewy despite being cooked rare but the rest of the food was good. I would go back and order something different. Cloakroom service was great. Also the bathrooms are super cute

Always a great place to go, amazing food, great service (Yul was fantastic!) and fantastic atmosphere. I love going to this place and highly recommends it! I especially recommends the afternoon tea, you get a lot for the price you pay, we got half of it home.

My wife and I were given a voucher for afternoon Tea for two with Champagne, so we booked a table for 15.00 on 14/12/24 as we were in Brighton to see Jools Holland that evening. Afternoon Tea was great and the atmosphere was pleasant but a bit loud. Although our table was booked for 15.00, we were asked to wait at the bar as our table wasn't ready. we had a 15 minute wait before our table was ready. If I book a table at an establishment of this calibre I don't expect to wait for my table!

Love this place! 3rd visit this year. We were lucky enough to be seated in the private dining room as an overspill, right next to the Christmas tree! As always the food and drinks were fantastic. Special shout out to our server FLORA who did everything to make our night a memorable occasion also thanks for putting up with us for 3 hours 😁 The staff are what make this restaurant. Fantastic meal in probably the most beautiful restaurant in the south

We had an incredible private dining experience celebrating my husband’s 40th in the Tidal Room. Daniel Rodriguez Ramirez & Lilly couldn’t have been more amazing at taking care of the arrangements and hosting a beautiful party. Everybody including myself couldn’t have been more grateful/well looked after and the food was all 5*. I would recommend anyone looking to celebrate that they use the team here. Thank you so much again.

I’m a fan of The Ivy chain & over the years have eaten in many. I have previously had dinner in this particular one, today’s visit was for breakfast. As with The Ivy brand the staff/ambiance & decor were superb. The Ivy train their staff extremely well. Many other restaurants should take note. Breakfast as always was perfect. Everything perfectly cooked & presented. Yes, as many comment it is on the expensive side, but then you get what you pay for & over the years we have never been let down on our visits to The Ivy.

I often visit the Ivy for drinks, and I have to say it's the best place, especially because of Olivia. She's very sweet and makes excellent drinks; the nibbles are also very tasty.

They catered to every one of our needs! The staff wss absolutely incredible. The waiting time didnt feel like much because of how beautiful the decor and service was. We stayed from 8pm and were the last ones to leave. We were not rushed out. Incredible experience

The food was really tasty and the festiv drinks were really really good. However we asked for ice for the water about 3times but it never was brought for us.

I am now a Lady.... it's a brought title, slow down haters! If I'm being totally honest the Staff at a Wetherspoons know their menu better than Staff at The Ivy in Brighton. I went to The Ivy after a show in Brighton and the bar staff at The Ivy didn't have a clue about the food. In my opinion a high end restaurant should educate their colleagues including bar staff. Well done Tim Martin. Your staff are more equipped better than The Ivy

I have a registered assistance dog due to my medical condition. We were refused entry as I didn’t have my assistance dog certificates with me even though I had them on my phone, which I showed to the lady at reception. The lady at reception was very unhelpful and I was amazed at her reply when she offered that we sit outside. It was very cold, windy and it had started to rain. We have been there several times and there was never any issue. We were genuinely shocked by the unprofessional and unempathetic response from the manager who would not accept my certified documents which were on my phone. PLEASE NOTE It is illegal to refuse entry to a service dog in the UK: Equality Act 2010 This act protects assistance dogs and makes it illegal for businesses to refuse service to a disabled person with an assistance dog.
