The Inn on the Lake in Tunbridge Wells

My friend and I had afternoon tea. The quality of the food was superb, really outstanding, all homemade, delicious and very tasty, and plenty of it too, it was very filling. We would both highly recommend it. The service from the staff was excellent and as it wasn't very busy in there at the time (3pm) we were able to chat with them at our leisure. All in all, it was a very relaxing but highly pleasurable couple of hours at a very nicely furnished Inn in a lovely setting beside a lake. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I recently visited The Inn on the Lake for Afternoon tea and it was very good and great value for money, would highly recommend if anyone was thinking of a birthday treat or just a catch up with a friend, the staff are very friendly and are always helpful, doesn't matter what time of day you visit for food the service is very good and you never wait long for your food. Well done to Leigh and Sharon and the rest of the staff.

Meeting friends for lunch we picked The Inn on the Lake due to the localaty, menu and the fact it is dog friendly - it would have been hard to choose better.The food was excellent, we had four different meals from the menu and all four were first class, as was the desert. The staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble.After lunch we had a nice leisurely walk around the lake.

My wife and I came here after booking a table as the eat out to help scheme has certainly made the place popular. Loved the decor and the over riding reason for eating here is the friendly service. It is though very closely followed by the food, the portion sizes alone offer value for money, then sprinkled with the quality I have no problem recommending this as a place for an evening meal, I had the whitebait for starters, well cooked in a nice batter and the tartar sauce is lovely, my wife had the garlic mushrooms served unusually with a sweet chilli sauce which really works. My wife loved the liver and bacon, I went for the tex mex burgers and there was probably to many flavours going on but I still enjoyed it.

This pub/restaurant along with everyone that works there makes it a relaxing place to have a meal. Its welcoming and friendly. The food is great and the portions are good value for money.Have booked again to take my son and his girlfriend. This is definately my first choice when eating out.

We already love this restaurant, but wondered what it would feel like since the pandemic and with all the social distancing and measures they have in place. Well this evening 6 of us went there for dinner and it still has the welcoming friendly feel and the service and staff were fantastic as usual. The food was delicious and we have 4 very fussy children who cleared their plates. Keep up the great work guys. Would highly recommend.

Visited on our way back up north on Friday 24th July and got a very good welcome by the lady behind the bar who is an asset to this pub. We only visited for drinks but could not fault the service and had a very pleasant experience and this was down to the lady behind the bar. Would definitely visit again if back in the area.

Had a great (pre-Covid) Sunday lunch here with a large group of friends, took the whole restaurant over, Sharon and the team looked after us wonderfully, the food was fresh, tasty and plentiful.Returned again to walk the dogs around the lake and sit outside with a drink, lots of tables and space to sit out in the sunshine, highly recommended!

A very pleasant restaurant. The service was excellent, and the food too! It had been recommended by my Sister, as she works nearby. We enjoyed our meal, and then took a stroll around the lake to burn off some of the calories! Overall it was a great experience and we shall probably return later in the year.

After a bit of a wild walk with 4 x children and a dog, we decided to pop in for lunch at the Inn on the Lake. We were warmly welcomed and although confined to the 'bar' area, this was more than adequate and comfortable. Great choice of kids meals and lovely lunchtime food for us. Nicely presented. Weird comment maybe, but toilets were spotlessly clean (it's a thing of mine). Even the dog was given his own bowl of water. Was rather nice watching the torrential rain from this cosy spot. Excellent friendly and attentive siervice. Will definitely visit again.

Had the sisters birthday party here on a Saturday night.We were in the back room which is a perfect size so we were not getting in the way of others. Also was good for the grandchildren to run around.We had the buffet which was brilliant a very good selection and the hot food was hot.the bar has a great selection of drinks,the bar staff were really friendly and it was also one of their birthdays( happy birthday).The duty manager was great could not do enough for us and so were all the other staff. Thanks Will definitely use again for family and friends get togethers or occasions.

We have visited regularly and always been very happy with the food, the staff and the atmosphere. This place is really “on the lake” and there is always something to see out of the window. Had a super Sunday roast today. Beef with yorkshire puds and a good selection of vegetables. The place was buzzing and the staff were kept very busy.Very reasonable price so we didn’t break the bank and we wont need anything else to eat today.

From the outside it looked pretty ordinary but inside the staff had made a beautiful job of doing it up with Christmas decorations. The restaurant was clean, the manager and staff were excellent. The food although a festive menu which some places can be a hit or a miss was taste and well priced. Nothing was too much bother for them and they were welcoming to kids but also seemed to have areas where people who wanted peace and quiet could dine too. I would certainly go back there again.

We were a family of 10 for afternoon tea just before Christmas. Service was slow and we had to ask and wait for the teapots to be refilled. Sandwiches were average. As were the scones. Now the cakes were something else, and not in a good way. Costco mince pies! And what looked like mr Kipling boxed cakes, however I think they were possibly a cheaper version. There were plenty of them but just not really nice. Not what I expect from an afternoon tea. We won’t be returning!

This a place that I have visited before and this was a meal before watching our beloved Oxford United. This visit did not let us down, The food we had was superb and was great value for money this is a restaurant that dose not change extra for veg and the friendliness of the staff is as good as anywhere I have been. I am certain at times not all will be right but this is a place that i think deserves a high rating

Poor food and shocking attitude from staff ( not the young lad who brought the food out). They'll never have our custom again.

We stopped off by chance here for afternoon tea and found a gem. Wonderful atmosphere and location, and amazingly friendly staff who looked after us really well. The afternoon tea itself was a magnificent, tasty spread that we were unable to finish because there was such a lot. Would recommend highly.

We (5 adults and 2 children) had a very enjoyable Sunday Lunch at The Inn On The Lake. There was a pleasant atmosphere about the place, which was aided by the Christmas decorations and helpful staff who went out of their way to please. It is not a large dining area but we didn't see that as a problem at all, more of an advantage with most tables having views of the adjacent lake. There is also an area set aside with cosy arm chairs and sofas for drinks prior to or after eating. What we also liked was the fact that we were never rushed to place our orders and stayed for almost 4 hours! We will definitely visit again and once again our thanks to all the staff for a most enjoyable afternoon.

Held our son's Wedding here and everything was wonderful. The food was lovely and plentiful. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. We hired the whole venue so we had it to ourselves, which made all the difference. Would recommend for any function.

I visited this place before and I always were happy for food, service and atmosphere. This time atmosphere was same but not food and service. This time there was new waitress. Always I ordered same food...salmon hot salad but this time I have ordered something new...chicken with pineapple. Chicken was burned black. Not only a bit but all over chicken fillet was burned black and been hidden under the cheese and pineapples. When waitress asked "if everything is fine" I showed her chicken but I told her "I'm ok and no need change plate". As good will waitress asked "if I want coffee or something else" as half dinner wasn't good. Tonight I come to this place specially for desert chocolate cake with ice-cream and that what I have asked to waitress to serve for us. For free or for full price but that is what for I have come. After we finished dinner on the way out in stead "thank you for visiting" waitress shouting on my back "greedy!'. I think this is not acceptable. I have be nice and did not make complaint about burned food only because I won't disturb other visitors with nice and peaceful atmosphere. One little comment from waitress change a lot.

Didn’t have the game pie, other than that, good hearty pub food and very good service. Relaxing atmosphere. Great location.

Warm welcome from the owner, arranged extra place due to someone arriving unexpectedly. Food very good, service good despite several regulars not being available. One minor hiccup over a drinks order, quickly rectified. If ever in the area again would certainly recommend.

Beautiful location and friendly staff. Pub is pet friendly so we lo it. Menu is ok, nothing actually great but the restaurant area is very comfortable.

Went here for the first time and had Sunday lunch, very nice food and excellent service. It’s in a nice setting and well worth a visit with an extensive menu. Will be going back again and can highly recommend.

Meal choice was varied and of good quality and size when served. Despite two large groups in at the time of arrival, the two staff members were polite and professional. Definately would return if in the area.

We ate here for a family meal. Very busy which is good. We all enjoyed our meals my husband really liked the liver and bacon. They also have 3 good veggie choices. Have also had lunch here too which is equally nice.

We had heard of this place and decided to visit it for Sunday lunch and we was not disappointed this place is a little gem the front of house team were friendly and polite the service was of excellent standards the steak pudding was out of this world it came with fresh vegetables and was piping hot the presentations was 1st class..we shall be coming back to this restaurant / pub

We went to the Inn on the Lake for an evening meal with friends, and wow so glad we did. The staff were very welcoming and friendly upon arrival, not always the case with some venues sorry to say. We were shown to our table and presented with the Menu's, asked what drinks we would like and all done with a very nice smile. The menu is very varied and a decent amount to choose from, including smaller plates for people with a lesser appetite or perhaps children with a healthier appetite.

The staff are friendly and welcoming, the food delicious and portion sizes very good. Great value for money, would definitely visit again

We went here for our works celebration for a 3 course meal and can only say what exceptional service we received from beginning with the manager leigh working with us to build a choice 3 course menu for our staff, to the food being cooked and served to perfection and the location of our tables with drinks prepared before we arrived. All of our team loved it so much and have only one regret not all of us having the lamb shank so many staff are saying they will be returning in the very near future for this. Thank you so much to all of the staff.

Popped in here on a Sunday lunchtime just for a drink and sandwich, good choice of both beers and food. Location is great to sit outside in the sun and overlook the lake. Definitely worth a visit and we will certainly come back again. Although we just sat outside for small lunch the restaurant inside looked excellent with a good choice of main meals or just car snacks.

We had sunshine and it was a perfect setting for a silver wedding anniversary with 60 guests, adjacent to the public park so kids could roam around, provided someone kept an eye on those that were heading for the lake. They had great fun collecting the duck feathers. We had the party rooms that opened out onto the patio and park. The BarBQ was served just outside, and, with the sunshine, those that wanted to could eat at the bench tables outside. My sister-in-law, 50 years a vegetarian, said this was the best ever selection of veggie kebabs, and she ate all three. Also a vegan option. Leigh said that the veggie option was as good as, if not better than the carnivorian, and he's right. The 5" burger defeated me. You could come back as often as you wanted for seconds/thirds - and Leigh said only once has has he run out - and that's when 40 unexpected guests turned up. Couldn't have asked for a better celebration venue

The nearest pub to the Mk Dons stadium.(10 min walk). Very welcoming, excellent choice of beers and a good menu.

We were out for a bike ride and got peckish and this was the nearest place but I had reservations due to past experience of the pub . First pleasant surprise was the French white wine which was reasonably priced it was actually cold which is not always the case nowadays and it was really nice. We ordered the fish baguette which came with a salad and dressing, it was tasty and well cooked. Outside area is lovely to sit looking over the lake . We will defiantly be back and advise to give the place a go .

We came to eat here just before a concert at the stadium and the food was fantastic! Very quick service and a great, friendly atmosphere. All the staff were very helpful and attentive. We had a lovely evening and we will definitely be returning. Thank you for an enjoyable evening!

Lovely family run business! Me and my boyfriend had a wonderful meal here! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was nice and everyone was enjoying their meals! They work super hard here in providing a fabulous experience for their guests! 100% recommend

I love this place, I feel at ease and welcome. The food is a cut above the chains around Milton Keynes. Although the menu may be limited for some, what there is, tastes delicious and is inexpensive. Function room for bigger groups and sofa's for an aperitif or coffee.

Food was good and staff were very friendly. We checked beforehand that steak would be available on the bank holiday but were told it was not when we ordered, however they did the steak once we explained that they said it would be. There were a few hiccups as the card machine was not working and could not be fixed until Tuesday. Overall a nice place to eat and the staff really did try to make us happy.

Taken here by friends and were very impressed with meal and service. Nice to walk round the lake afterward too! We didn’t know this was here even when living in the area so will certainly return if close by again.

The venue offers a room ajoining the main bar area for private functions, which on this occasion was a wedding reception. The room. Looks out onto the park and lake area providing a pleasant vista. A buffet was provided which was excellent, with varied hot and cold dishes, including chips, wedges, pizzas, a variety of sandwiches, salads, sauces and nibbles. Drinks were available in the adjacent bar area. The tables were placed in the normal pub layout which maintains the friendly and informal ambience rather than a banquet style formation, this was good for mixing and chatting among the group. The staff were pleasant and attentive. The experience here was appreciated by all in attendance.

Five family members arranged a karting session at the nearby indoor go-karting track. Following our exhilarating drives we looked forward to a chat in soft seats and some cold beers. We found just nearby the Inn on the Lake - just perfect with its spacious comfortable seated areas. The staff were friendly and attentive and we enjoyed a couple of hours there before having a short walk near the lake. Recommended.

Booked a meal with friends visiting for the weekend. Meal barely warm and dessert pretty inedible. Then with our taxi waiting they couldnt produce the bill and then short changed us. We have been here many times and have been happy but if this had been the first time we would not be back

Booked and left deposit a week prior for 4 adults for afternoon tea on Sunday 7th April. On arrival they could not find our booking, eventually the manageress found it in their book for Saturday not Sunday. She was lovely and very apologetic, however not sure if it was because the booking was made by them for the wrong date but the food wasn't brilliant and looked as if it had been thrown together in a hurry especially the cake selection (looked nothing like the pictures on tripadvisor or their website)

Booked for a Wake with 150+ people in attendance. Service was brilliant and food/Venue was above expectations. Would highly recommend using Leigh and his team to provide a wake your loved one would be proud of.

Visited this lovely homely place for dinner tonight. Wow the food was excellent using locally sourced produce. Fantastic friendly service by very polite attentive staff. Not to be missed when in the area. I'll certainly be back.

We visited with all the family on Sunday for Mother’s Day afternoon tea.

Brought our mother here for Afternoon Tea and it was lovely. Nice little tea room in a cozy snug environment but on the first floor so not great if you struggle with stairs. We were fine. Huge afternoon tea that we couldn’t finish. Staff were lovey and friendly and the service was attentive. Would recommend if you want to look out over a lake and watch the world go by.

Went to the Inn on the Lake for a midweek meal with friends, after reading some mixed reviews was not sure what to expect. I have to say we were very pleasantly surprised, although it was not busy the staff were very welcoming and responsive which was nice. The restaurant itself is very well decorated, and the tables are well spread out not like some you see. The food menu is very varied and extensive, again some places now only seem to offer a restricted menu, which is a shame. I had the Liver and Bacon casserole, served with creamy mash, crispy bacon and a good onion gravy absolutely lovely. So nicely cooked as it can be dry, but not here have to say.

Left a poor review on Facebook due to the quality of food and service provided. Be prepared to get privately messaged by an individual who appears to be offended because I’ve given my experience! Not even one star.

Visited last Saturday with a large family party. We had pre-booked and our table was laid out to accommodate us all. Service was good and attentive. Food was tasty. At the end of the meal, we were allowed to bring in a birthday cake and they supplied plates for us.

Not the best lunch, two out of the three meals where not enjoyed. The fish and chips where a disappointment because the chips although plenty where dry and the fish inside a huge amount of batter was small and of poor quality, the tikka masala was very dry and needed extra chutney to make it palatable, however the vegetable tart with new potatoes and salad was enjoyed. Irish coffee was served with squinty cream from a can and was sinking to the bottom of the cup. All in all this is not the cheapest place to eat and we will not be rushing back.

The food was very good , we had the Sunday roast . They could do with giving out steak knives to people haveinf the beef. Friendly family atmosphere with amazing deserts

We had a family meal for 42 adults and 9 children, we were in the room off of the main restaurant which was ideal, lovely decor and tables set out beautifully. The service was fantastic and the food excellent, we were very well looked after. Thank you Leigh and team for an excellent evening and being able to accommodate such a large group.

Although I’ve gone past this place many times I’ve never gone in. As a party of 4 we walked in and got a table without reserving. The staff were so friendly and the food came out relatively quick. We both had pies which were very nice couldn’t face desert as we were stuffed. Would return yes especially on a Sunday to try their roast.

We had a lovely early evening meal here tonight. It was very good, the Gammon Steak was huge and very tasty. The Game Pudding was excellent that my partner had with a big bowl of delicious vegetables.

I found this pub restaurant about two months ago, to have Sunday dinner, set in great surroundings next to a small lake. Normally you get small amounts of food, along with a high price. Not this place, it's certainly not skimpy with the food. Plus the hosts were most welcoming, not the usual plastic smiles but real ones. So based on that experience, a group of friends (ten of us), went there last Friday evening, immediately noticed the care and time it must have taken to put up the Xmas decorations. Well we all had a really good meal, not one complaint from anybody. A really enjoyable evening, so glad we took that chance to invite friends, and get a good result

We stopped here for lunch and had a good meal. Can recommend the Whitebait and chicken stroganoff. Food arrived promptly and all piping hot. Must come back on the summer to enjoy the lake.

We visited the area at very short notice on a Sunday. The restraunt, as I expected, was very busy. After a warm welcome a table for my party of three was found. Although the menu looked very good we elected for the Sunday roast. We did not have to wait long. The roast beef was tender and there was plenty of it along with a large quanity of good quality vegetables. While we ate we were struck by the splendor of our surroundings and were fasinated to watch the birds and beauty of the lake. The staff were very approachable and despite being busy, ensured all was well. This visit to the area was very special to the 80 year old lady in my party, who had been seriously ill earlier in the year was desperate to visit the house in which she was born and the area she lived in until 1984. As we drove the 70 miles homes she talked excitedly about the visit to her old home, the area and the restraunt with the view with a big smile on her face. Good memories are made that day.

Visited this restaurant for my husbands 30th birthday as a large table of 15.

Last weekend I took a party of 18 to this restaurant. As we were celebrating a 40th anniversary the menu theme struck a chord. We were welcomed warmly and shown to a private area. We were promptly offered drinks while we perused the menus. There was a good selection of lagers and ales on tap which is great to see.

On September 15th we had our wedding evening at inn on the lake, from the moment we entered for our pre evening dinner with 11 of our family and friends, the staff were extremely attentive, friendly and professional. The food was delicious and all brought out in time . We had a really lovely relaxed dinner and felt no rush from the staff to finish.

Looking for somewhere to eat after a busy day in MK. We googled, and the Inn on the Lake was high up the list. After checking out Tripadvisor reviews we decided to give it ago.

Another visit , once again , Great food and service . Busy Saturday night Managed to get a table without booking . Look forward to my next visit .

Food was great, generous portions. I had a Prawn cocktail, followed by a Steak and Ale Pudding with fresh vegetables, new baby potaoes and to finish Lemon Merangue Pie. A trip down memory lane. I have not enjoyed these on a menu for many years! Really yummy! Restaurant staff were friendly and helpfull. Behind the scenes, the toilets, were spotless.

LOVLEY setting , the lake is very big , menu was good and the staff very nice , well worth the money and time to visit , good times

A pleasant, modern pub with very friendly staff & clientele, and huge portions of good 80s pub grub! To get there we walked through the woodland around the lake which was unlit at night but felt safe. We were seated quickly and had a relaxed meal, a large portion of whitebait, garlic mushrooms (with sweet chilli sauce which we thought odd) suet pudding and scampi, we were too full for any pudding but they looked good on the next table. If visiting during the day there's a good view across the lake and a garden with plenty of seating. We would return if in the area but not eat as much during the day!

We had stopped off at this busy restaurant on the way to the Cotswolds, and had no hesitation choosing it on the return journey. Ample parking, and a very pleasant walk with our three dogs along the lakeside (red kites and cormorants in evidence). Then back to the restaurant, where the friendly staff found us a dog-friendly corner even though some 80 people had arrived just before us for a wake.

This afternoon Stony Stratford Women’s Institute had a most enjoyable afternoon tea . The food was excellent , staff so very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us.

Had spent sometime searching for a good restaurant which would allow dogs and cater for some difficult dietary requirements. Chose the Inn on the Lake for our family lunch because they were extremely helpful from the initial call to book the table, right through to accommodating extras who turned up on the day. Service was superb and everyone enjoyed their lunch. We all agreed that a return visit was in order, and would like to thank Lee and his staff for a lovely afternoon.

This place is amazing, great customer service, the food was perfect and would 100% recommend to anyone !

We have eaten here before, so popped in for lunch, it wasn't busy, so no problem getting a table.

Nice surroundings. It’s by the lake. Attended at 5.40pm on a very hot day. Only two other diners. Pleasant lady took orders. Served in reasonable time. Home cooked (?) chicken and mushroom pie. Soggy pastry, bland filling. Had all the indication of some mass produced economy brand. Oven chips. Strangely, served with mini saucepan of gravy on the plate.

Three generations of family came for an afternoon tea. We asked for sandwiches for us three who are vegetarians. This was not a problem at all. The sandwiches were delicious and a tasty savoury tart too. Beautiful Victoria sponge. No room for scone so it was put into a box to take home. The staff were attentive and friendly. We had another pot of tea with no extra expense. I would highly recommend and return.

Booked for Sunday dinner but not really necessary. Our order was taken swiftly and our food was delicious. Staff were attentive, but not overpowering and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Horrific attitude from the owner. I was not happy with my burger as it was rock solid so I was not happy to pay for it and she was very argumentative would not agree that her food was not nice. I would not recommend going here to expensive for not nice food and horrible attitude off of the OWNER!!

We booked in advance but not really necessary on this Monday night. Great choice of menu, well cooked, nicely presented with very generous portions. Friendly and attentive staff. There were Trivial Pursuit cards on the tables which were quite entertaining which was a nice touch. Liked this restaurant a lot.

Visited here for the first time but what a disappointment. The staff were lovely and very attentive, I ordered the Chicken & Wild Mushroom Stroganoff and hubby ordered the The big one - Steak and Cheddar Shortcrust Pie. My stroganoff was nothing like a stroganoff, it was more like pieces of chicken in shop bought gravy granules, no taste of cream, no taste of brandy and no mushrooms!!! just awful, it came with microwave vegetables, rice and new potatoes that were turning green. Hubby's pie - he said it was fine, tasty filling but the pastry was hard. Such a shame as the setting was lovely with the lake and the geese & goslings outside and can't fault the staff who were very lovely and attentive. Sadly we won't be returning.

We popped into the Inn on the Lake for a business lunch! Fortunately it was a beautiful sunny April day and we sat outside with a view across the lake in the name!

Beautiful setting, fantastic homemade food, superb service from staff & great price. Even the cutlery was spotless. We sat outside as a glorious day & I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I will be visiting again.
